ReadyShare permissions on WNDR4300
On my laptop which is HP Envy M7 with Win 10 64 bit on which I am the administrator. Network drive ReadyShare was recognized without problems. However, the files are read-only and I can't change or remove the read only flag. When I tried to delete a folder, I got a message saying "You need permissions Unix Users\root to make changes to this file" (strange msg for a laptop OS Win). Tried to add files to a folder existing to my local HARD drive and got a message saying it could not find the destination folder.
So, how can I become the owner of this car readyshare\usb_storage and where I can edit the security settings?
Connect your USB hard drive to your PC and then run the disk check. (right click on the drive > properties > tools)
Once done USB connection to the router then edit some files.

Questions to access the router Netgear WNDR3400 of laptop Readyshare USB disk 64-bit Windows 7
I have a laptop of 64-bit windows 7, which is connected to the router of netgear wndr3400.
I have a USB key connected to wndr3400.
This drive is supposed to be accessible through the path of the \\readyshare\USB_Storage, but I can not connect by typing the path and I'm not under network. I tried to wire the laptop to the router, but the path of the \\readyshare is still not accessible.
There is no firewall on the laptop.
I see other computers on a network in the same network the laptop.
I also have a desktop that is connected (wired) to the router, and the Office can see the \\readyshare subnet. The office is equipped with Windows vista 32 bit.
I would appreciate your help in how to solve this problem.

What are 'File Permissions '?
My beginner reading: http://macs.about.com/od/usingyourmac/qt/Fix-Spod-How-To-Fix-A-Spinning-Pinwheel --Death.htm says that file permissions are automatically repaired now with El Captain but that before that perhaps they should be "repaired" after updates or the spinning Rainbow wheel can appear. I get the spinning wheel on entry just after put the password in and clicking on (but it's fast and not annoying) but worrying to see nonetheless.
What are the file permissions? Are they connected to the wheel that turns that I see at the time of the process, as it happens, or do I not to worry it is appearing briefly and then in endangered?
Overwhelmed - please help with explanation so that I can learn more about my Mac. Thank you for your time and your consideration.
File permissions control which parts of the file system access is the best explanation I can find. They can cause a spinning beachball, but they are not the only thing that can cause that.

Unable to repair the permissions of the library!
Hello
I'm pulling my hair out trying to restore access to my library of Photos...
My photo library is located on a Synology NAS. After update macOS Sierra, I would lose permanently the connection to my NAS. Someone on another thread said to use SMB instead of the AFP for file transfer services. I did, and the connection has remained stable; However, since any attempt to open the pictures gives me an error message "repair permissions Library" and wrote "this library is locked or you don't have permissions to make changes. Photos can try to repair the permissions'.» I try to repair the library, and after about 20 minutes, I get "error repair permissions.
Finally, I opened the console to see what was going on, and that's what I saw when the error occurred:
Library Permission repair failed: error Domain = RKRepairLibraryPermissions Code = UserInfo '(null)' 3 = {NSUnderlyingError = 0x61800025ecf0 {error Code Domain = com.apple.library - repair.error = 4 "(null)"}}
If anyone can decode this to give me a clue as to what is happening and how to fix it? Or is there any other suggestions?
I would appreciate any info at all...
See you soon,.
Chris

My photo library is located on a Synology NAS
Photos is not compatible with the NAS volumes. Photos libraries need to be located on an OS X Extended (journaled) formatted volume.
So, copy the library on a volume formatted correctly and open it with Photos. You may need to repair the library by launching it with the command and Option keys.

Reset home folder permissions and the default ACL on macOS Sierra?
A tool that I've used in the past to troubleshooting doesn't seem to be available in macOS Sierra.
There was a procedure in el captain to reset the permissions of file and ACLs in start in recovery mode, by running the command terminal, resetpassword. This command pulls up a GUI in Sierra as el cap but the "reset the user permissions and ACLs" option is no longer there.
This article describes the procedure to el captain
http://appletoolbox.com/2016/07/fix-corrupt-user-accounts-MacOS/#For_El_Capitan _ andmacOS
Is there another way to reset the permissions of the user and the default ACLs on macOS Sierra?
If you are looking for in the forums on the topic and limit to messages by Linc Davis, he posted a script that will reset everything.

The operation cannot be completed because you do not have the necessary permissions. This is the message I get when I want to create a new folder. I don't have this problem until recently. 1.
How should I do?
2 is that there is a security breach?
I use sierra but, I had the same problem with el Capitan
When you try to create a new folder? is it an external device? your office? a NAS?

Help with account permissions / Yosemite
Looking for help well informed with a pesky question of Yosemite...
I have an old Mac with multiple disks, and I try to get the most recent versions of Mac OS X installed and working properly.
The hardware and OS details:
- Mac Pro 4.1 ("cheese grater")
- 3 hard disks 1 to
- Machine has been (and is still) 10.6.8 Snow Leopard as its main operating system running. It's on HD #2. That works very well, though obviously limited the age (old apps). I need to keep this as a configuration to boot can be used - in other words, I need to preserve the ability to boot from the HD #2 in 10.6.8 as this is currently my workplace every day and will probably continue for a while.
Last year, I installed 10.10.3 Yosemite on internal HD #1. I initially had some difficulties to be able to switch between the boot disks, but am now able to choose with reliability drive/starting system at startup via the Startup Manager (boot, invoking the Boot Manager, I choose #2 with 10.6.8 HD or HD #1 with 10.10.3).)
So far so good.
Everything works well when it is started on the 10.6.8 by car.
When it is started off the coast of the 10.10.3 drive, there is account/permissions issues that prevent me from using it for something meaningful. That's what I'm trying to correct now.
Note that I installed 10.10.3 on HD #1 for over a year and I've never used for anything - that the drive is empty other than the operating system. If I need to blow this facility, I can do.
The problem: I am currently not able to install apps on HD #1 (after starting on #1 with 10.10.3). HD When I try to install anything, the operating system will appear an authentication dialog box: '< name of install App > wants to make changes. Type of administrator name and password to enable this. »
I get my account name and PW (which I have always used for everything on this machine for ever), and it fails.
Research in system preferences > users and groups, I see not what probably is the problem: my account is a "Standard user", not an administrator account. There is no listed administrator account (in fact, no other users listed, other than the "Guest", which is disabled). I don't know how he got in this State, I was always the administrator on this machine, and I guess it would have copied accounts and permissions of the 10.6.8 installation, or otherwise if he asked me about this information during the installation I took myself as an administrator. In any case, my user account is now "Standard", which is probably the cause of the current unrest. I am constantly invited to enter a log in admin whenever I try to do anything (a 'function' rather annoying but lets not go). This machine is my home, nobody else is going to have physical access to it, no children in the House, that's for sure, I prefer to ignore as many log-ins required security etc. as possible, but for now, I just get my user configured as an administrator account.
What is the best way to achieve this?
As I said, I have nothing invested in the current installation of 10.10.3 HD # 1, this player is all-but-empty and I can blow that installation (and re - format the drive) if it's the easiest path. But it is extremely important that I have the integrity of the other disk, HD #2, which is running 10.6.8 and has important data and apps on it. I want to make sure that everything I do with or HD #1 and 10.10.3 is no impact on the #2 HD and my ability to boot from 10.6.8 on it.
(I also have a third 1 TB internal disk (HD #3). This player is 100% empty and unused. After I get the permissions of the account/fixed on HD #1 with 10.10.3, I would then install 10.11 El Capitan on HD #3 - and have the ability to boot to one of the three systems - but I'll keep my questions on that until I have the 10.10.3 sorted issues.)
Then... I guess the only real issue here that I need to address is the fact that my user account on #1 on 10.10.3 HD is not an admin (no?) account. If this is the case, what is the best way for me to fix this?
Thank you very much in advance for your help - it is much appreciated.
Can you unlock the preferences system/users and groups? If so, you should be able to give administrator privileges. See if something in this article helps you. Since you have nothing else on the disc, if all else fails, delete and reinstall. Setup Wizard will allow you to create an admin account.
Make a backup, best 2 separated on 2 discs. Start of recovery volume (command - R on a restart, or hold down the option/Alt during a restart and select the Volume of recovery). Run the check/repair disk utility and repair permissions until you get no error. Reformat the hard disk using Disk Utility/Erase Mac OS extended (journaled), then click on the Option button and select GUID. Then re-install the operating system.

I know that this has been done, but I can't find here or elsewhere.
I just reinstalled my SSH protocols after replacing a hard drive on the server and (data only) restore from a Time Machine backup. I seemed to have to start the SSH process from scratch.
I'm from the procedure (which I learned here) ctlow.ca/SSH-VPN_MacOSX.html.
It worked, but when I connect from the client, it just goes through without asking for password. I think that he asked a password the first time, the password private key (?), but he used to ask for it (in a small text box, echo) every time and then the password (?) server in the Terminal itself, not taken over.
Now, none of those happening.
So, I found some notes I had made about it and reset the permissions as 700 .ssh folder and files inside like 600, on the server and the client.
It ends up looking like this:
ClientComputer: ~ ClientID$ ls - ael .ssh
Total 24
drwx - 5 personal ClientID 170 11 Sep 15:24.
drwxr-x-wx + 24 personal ClientID 816 13 Sep 08:26...
0: Group: everyone deny delete
-rw-@ 1 personal ClientID 32 10 February 2012 config
-rw - 1 1766 11 Sep 15:11 id_rsa personal ClientID
-rw - 1 818 11 Sep 15:33 known_hosts personal ClientID
====
ServerComputer: ~ ServerID$ ls - ael .ssh
Total 16
drwx - 4 personal ServerID 136 11 Sep 15:28.
drwxr-xr-x @ 25 personal ServerID 850 11 Sep 15:30...
0: Group: everyone deny delete
-rw - 1 416 11 Sep 15:28 authorized_keys personal ServerID
-rw - 1 391 11 Sep 15:26 known_hosts personal ServerID
I don't think I'm particularly threatened, but I was happy to have to use two passwords to log into the SSH tunnel. No idea why I wonder no password now? (I did specify a passphrase when generating the key.)
Thank you.
Charles
P.S. The customer running 10.9, 10.11 server.
P.P.S. For the client-user info window showed "shared folder" which I don't know how it got that way and have unchecked the box. I doubt if that is related to my question.
Hello Charles,
I'm not sure what you were doing before, but it seems OK now.
Most of the internet uses the same set of instructions that tell people not to use a password for the private key. It's a hassle to the running ssh-agent and most people struggle enough as it is with ssh. But on OS X, keychain using ssh-agent. Thus, when you provide a password for your private key, the first time you go, you will be asked (via a beautiful Aqua GUI) your password. You can expect that and save it in the keychain, hence, you will never be asked again. Then, if the rest of your ssh stuff is correct, it will pass all by as you describe. It sounds like what is happening now, and that's how it should work.
If I were to speculate, I think that maybe before you run a custom build of ssh and ssh-agent command line version. This would explain the double Terminal passwords can be made echo and the other not.

Hello world
I have a problem with permissions to write and read my hard drive on airport Time Capsule.
I can't change the privilege, he tell me that: the operation cannot be performed because you don't have the required permissions.
But I'm the only one using this time Capsule so I am the admin.
What can I do to change the permissions?
Thank you.
The permissions are a lot more of a problem with El Capitan. You have a computer that still use older BONES?
I recommend that you create the folder from the finder in El Capitan... then use the old computer to move the files to the new folder that you created.
No luck so talk to me... but you cannot fix the permissions on the network drive on El Capo. And it's powerful fussy.
I guess the only way then is to archive the files on USB... so you can plug the drive into your computer, access files, then copy backup.

IMac locked out after changing the sharing and HD permissions
Made a big mistake with my iMac internal sharing and permissions of HD. I was experimenting with sharing and permissions of the HD info panel section in the administrator account. In this article, I've changed the 'everyone' naming 'no access', but in doing so, it froze the machine. Nothing did not. I tried to restart, but after that the Apple logo and progress bar appears briefly, the screen went white.
I tried to make a backup using Time Machine, but when the time came to clear the HD and replace it with the backup TM, I got an error message saying that the system could not erase the HD. I tried to go into Safe Mode, but he continues to send me the recovery mode.
I have a boot disc separate I made in Carbon Copy Cloner who is somewhere else right now but I can get, and maybe I can boot from that and do a total deletion of the internal HD and start again. But I can do in the meantime? It seems that a configuration option has locked me completely out of the HD to the iMac.
Thank you
Ed
To keep track, I tried something different. I used the option to reinstall OS X when the pane of the utility is on the rise. My iMac then crossed the download process and reinstall OS X. After 40 minutes, when he was all done, my machine is back with the connection, settings, and data in place. I didn't even do a time Machine reinstall data. Problem fixed.
Moral of the story is, don't play with fixed and permission of a lot!

createinstallmedia permissions
I'm doing an installation for el capitan disc. When I go to the Terminal, I get so far, but can't put my password, because the permissions are wrong - I just get a padlock logo. So what are the permissions do I need to change it please. It seems I only have access to Terminal, and I can't change the permissions on this point, because it is "the operation cannot be performed because you don't have the necessary authorization."
So, how can I get the necessary permissions? Does anyone know?
TIA
If you typed the command createinstallmedia and are then asked a password, note that the characters that you type will not actually displayed in the Terminal window, even as a "•" s. Thus, when you type the command createinstallmedia and press return, enter your password even though you see only the padlock.

Problem with El Captain (5.1.7 server) and the management of permissions
Hello world
I have a big problem with our Mac Mini Server (El Captain) and the server program.
In recent weeks, the server didn't give the permissions of a folder.
for example:
Mr. X had permission to read and write to a folder.
Mr Y too.Mr. X has create a new folder one record something in it.
Mr Y had the permission to read or write to the folder create Mr. x. But he should have.
Or
Mr. X has save a file to a folder
When he opens it again it is write protected and cannot be replaced.
So you have to save under a different name in the same folder.
And every time he save/close the file.
Anyone know what could be the problem?
Thank you
Greetings from the Germany
Chris
My guess:
A few weeks ago someone messed with the permissions on your server and made a mistake. So, you got an inappropriate list ACL (Access Control), which is rampant in the file and must be removed or fixed.
