• Error starting VMMark

  I went to start the VMMark test for the first time yesterday.  Since this is my first time running VMMark I was running just a single mosaic of the preferred customer.  When I started, I got the below error.  I have tried both a 64 bit and 32 bit JRE, but got the same error.  The first client that runs Windows 2008 R2 64-bit. Any ideas would be appreciated.

  It seems that, as jamesz08 mentioned, naming 8.3 is disabled on your client, which you must activate it.

  In the results you have not validated, no short name for LoadGenCmd.exe was listed (e.g. LOADGE ~ 2.EXE).

  We expect this line as follows:

  2008-04-21 05:39 59 472 LOADGE ~ 2.EXE LoadGenCmd.exe

  Another difference, as you can see, this is the date and time must match the format MM/DD/YYYY and the 12-hour clock. Make sure that the date and time format used by all systems Windows (that is, all clients and the server vCenter) is the standard of the USA (i.e. day/month/year). Please let us know if you have a problem with these reconfigurations.

  I tried to use manual way to do DeployVM and success, but I did not understand why no score under deploy part.

  Storage use 3 storage lun of the CF and name like vmmark, vmmark2, vmmark3.

  Physical server for Primeclient.

  vCenter55, client0, client1 is a virtual computer in the same physical server.

  put VM 2tiles KNEW 2 as a physical server.

  No, I mean the VMware tools in the model used for deployed operations.  See the section called "Preparing the model to deploy handling" in the current version of the Guide VMmark benchmarking for full instructions, which should have all the information you need.

  VMmark 2.5.2 was released.  This is a version of the patch to ensure that updated an existing 2.5 or 2.5.1 VMmark installation VMmark VMmark 2.5.2; It includes all the updates that are found in the VMmark 2.5.1 patch.  For installation instructions and a detailed description of the changes for this hotfix, see the Readme.txt file included in the zip file of patch.  All the results with VMmark 2 are comparable with this version.

  With this patch, that models of pre-built virtual machines VMmark2 workload have been updated (now based on hardware virtual version 10 with the current VMware Tools), we have added a new application of VMmark2SubmissionChecker to help users to find problems in their environment and the VMmark benchmarking Guide has been updated with improved instructions and troubleshooting Articles.

  Please note that on April 15, 2014 will be the last cycle in which VMmark 2.5.1 proposals will be accepted.

• VMmark ends, but Score .out is empty

  I'm working with VMmark for a few weeks, but I'm stuck.

  I'm still working on the first tile (tile0) and even if it works without steps failed (just a few caveats), the .out with the score of the tile file by saying only one line: the system cannot find the path specified. The same goes for the RMQmgr - out .txt file.

  I've done some checking:

  -RMQRabbit service is running

  -hosts file seems correct, ping worked at each machine.

  -Staf responds as expected (stac _machine_ ping ping)

  -Perl is the path

  -ssh to esxi servers works fine (without promting password)

  -client0 run outside the cluster

  I am aware that SvMotion is failing (I have just a single data store)

  Attached you will find the result directory, the hosts file and pings of staf.

  Can someone help me on this one please?

  This generally indicates that you don't have enough storage accommodation of your VMs mail server.  Try to add more drives, changing the raid type to something more powerful, etc..  It will depend largely on how you have the program installed and tuned to your specific environment.

• VMmark 2.5 Messaging server error (loadgen)

  First of all, let me say I have read through the forum.  I have all the parts 2.5 VMmark works correctly, with the exception of the workload of mail server.  It starts, but then ends with an error.  By reading the other questions, it seems apparent in the responses on the mail server responds too slowly.

  However, here is the question.  I have no other charges running job (as configured in the VMMARK2. CONFIGURATION file).  I am also tracking my storage using esxtop to see latencies reported and transfer.  During the first 5 minutes (when loadgen runs), found the highest read or write latency was less than 5 ms.

  The LVAD and GAVG show results almost identical to the esxtop, located less than 5 ms with the column QAVG/cmd showing 0.01 or less at all times.  Historical information for the data store in vCenter shows similar results.  So, obviously almost no tail storage or latency.  With no other job running, the CPU and memory on the system are also very low.

  So my question is why the mail server do not work?  Pointers much appreciated.  Attached is a zip file out of the folder "Mailserver" from the directory "c:\vclient\mailserver" of customers.

  I don't know where you got the tasks / user / setting day leave, but I can confirm the rest of the simulation settings are correct.

  To start the Exchange using LoadGen workload, follow the steps under "configure LoadGen' which should be at page 100 of the 2.5 Benchmarking Guide. Instead of using vmmark2initializationtemplate.xml, use C:\vclient\mailserver\vmmark2-mailserver0.xml. This is the same file that is used by the reference beam VMmark, so you can be sure the manual run Loadgen is identical to a Loadgen VMmark run. You shouldn't have to change all the fields and then select 'Start followed by initialization of simulation' to run.

  Exception logs will be generated to C:\Program Files\Exchange Load Generator and search in logs LoadGenInit * and LoadGenSim *.

  Has anyone tried a VMMark test with a virtual machine that is used to manage the cluster storage?

  I have several hardware solutions, I am unable to run VMMark because they contain foreign to the workload Vms(for storage). ClusterVMapping .txt reports an incorrect number of virtual machines in the tiles, which is what I expected.

  Is it possible to exclude these virtual machines in the vmmark2.config?

  You can disable the cluster mapping by editing the file VMMARK2.config and uncomment then by setting "DoClusterMapping = 0".

  Require VMmark tile VMs to be on the same subnet as vCenter? I have my VMs on 192.168.x.x subnet, however my Console ESXi and vCenter is on 172.140.x.x)... they are not reachible between them... And I see the VMmark request details vCenter configuration file and the data store...

  I don't know if I can run benchmarks on this environment. Which will work?

  No, your VMS don't need to be on the same subnet as your vCenter.   You network seems fine. Only the first client must be able to communicate with all hosts, virtual machines, the clients and the vCenter.  This is usually accomplished by having two network cards in the preferred customer.

  Although it might not be sanctioned, I would use VMmark for test performance with other cluster configurations. For example, I would like to have sets of tiles running on two cluster hosts. I always expect vMotioning fast to be limited within a cluster. Is this possible?

  Sorry, but the harness does not have the ability to span multiple clusters.  One of the key requirements of VMmark2 is that all virtual machines have the capacity of vMotion for any host under test.

  I try to install vmmark 2.1 and have used the sles VMs vmware Web site templates

  Again to set up the mail server vm I'm only created an empty VM for the Exchange at the moment.

  Yes, VMmark 2 supports vSphere and vCServer 5.0, I would recommend updating to VMmark 2.1.1 if you don't have it already done.
