Recover files from a hard drive NT

A friend has a hard drive from his old NT machine, and there are a lot of files that he needs to get out of it.  We have tried to put the NT HD into a USB enclosure (to use as an external hard drive), and copy the files to his new laptop XP, but the former Office hard drive says 'Access denied', and it seems not possible to change the permissions on it of the new XP machine.  Is it possible to enter the login and the password for this external hard drive from NT?  The only option we have otherwise is emailing files, and there are hundreds.

Thanks in advance, any ideas are appreciated.

I tried to upgrade windows 8.1 to 10, but something was wrong and I can't boot my laptop more. I have Samsung i5. Samsung has it s own recovery program, but impossible to locate all personal files from my hard drive (C:\user) s.

The problem is - my accont is protected by word (with the microsoft account) how can I recover my files? They are also protected by Word? Can I access simply by making the copy of disc or I´ll to decrypt?

It depends on if you have encryption enabled or not.  If you have the encryption on, then you will need a copy of your encryption key or the files will be locked forever.

If you encrypt your files, you can recover the files simply by putting the hard drive on another computer and navigate on it as if it were a USB key (it's just a reader), you can even appropriating and re - set the permissions on the folder.

Another option is to start by using any Windows install CD or USB.  At the prompt to install, skip it and press SHIFT + F10 to open a command prompt.  So to reach this player (the letter can be no C: in this mode) and use the command copy to copy the file to another disk or USB stick.

"Deleting" a file does not actually delete it marks just the space
also available to be used. There are third-party programs that can
sometimes recover deleted files. The problem is that the space used by
the file is likely to be replaced very quickly, and it makes
    the unrecoverable file.

So your chances of successfully recover this file are decent if you
Try it again immediately after the deletion of it and go quickly
downhill from there. If you have used the computer since then (for
example to write this question and read this answer), your chances may
    be very poor now.

But if the file is large enough, it's still worth a try. Stop
using the computer in question immediately, if you have not done
already. Download an undelete program (and here's one:)
    http://www3.TELUS.NET/mikebike/restoration.html but there are several
others to choose from; Do a search) on a friend's computer (do not
it on yours because that would overwrite the files you want
Undelete) and bring it to you on a CD or thumb drive to try.

If that fails, your only recourse is to bring or send the disc
a company of professional file recovery. This kind of service is very
expensive and may or may not work in your case.

  • How to extract the files from the HARD drive?

  • As I was deleting some files from my hard drive, I came across some files that I couldn't remove with a message saying remove wite protection.

As I was deleting some files from my hard drive, I came across some files that I couldn't remove with a message saying remove wite protection. Help!

This error indicates that an application is using this file at this point here. If you are unable to remove it, restart your computer and then try to delete it.

IF YOU ARE NOT SUCCESSFUL WITH THE above METHOD, THEN TRY to USE UNLOCKER, a free application that disables the application using the file that you want to delete.
    Download unlocker from here-http://www.filehippo.com/download_unlocker/
Click on the above link and click on download the newer version on the right side of the screen.
Download UNLOCKER from the link given above and install it. (you may need to restart the computer)
Right-click on the file you want to delete, and then click unlocker.
A new window opens showing all applications using this file.
Select all files, and then click on unblock.
Now right-click on the file you want to delete, and then click on remove.
YOUR FILE WILL BE DELETED SUCCESSFULLY.
If you are still unable to delete that file and unlocker shows no application, then follow these steps-
Right-click on the file you want to delete and click unlocker.
    A small window will appear.
In the drop-down list, choose delete, and then click ok.
Your file will be deleted on the next reboot of the system.

When you move a disk formatted in NTFS from one computer to another, you probably need to 'Ownership' of files and folders on this drive.  Procedure is here:

  • Satellite L40: How can I recover the files from the hard drive

    Hello

Can someone help me please. About a week ago I started to have a clicking sound coming from my laptop Satellite L40. My laptop froze and when I restarted, I was directed to the system configuration with a message at the bottom saying
"Pri Master Hard Disk Drive SMART status bad, Backup and replace."
    Press F2 to assume. »

I pressed F2, but I don't have any idea what to do?

Can someone tell me how do I backup my files until my HDD disappeared completely or if it was can I use another device to get down them.

I tried using the recovery disk, but the disk does not respond?

    Help, please

    Pete

    Hello

This message looks like a warning of S.M.A.R.T. notification
This means that your HARD disk will eventually fail.
It can happen in the next few days or it can't happen for a few months but the SMART feature has detected that the drive is wrong then it should be replaced as soon as possible.
It seems that your laptop is not very old, so the warranty should cover all replacements.

I see only one way to access and back up the data. Eventually, you could buy an external enclosure SATA USB HARD drive and was able to connect the HARD drive to another computer.
I don't know if you will be able to access the HARD drive because of the failure, but if you want you can try this m.

    Good luck

  • How can I transfer encrypted files from old hard drive removed (transfer windows easy?)

    Hello

I'm trying to get some files off my old hard drive encrypted. He has xp on it, and I can't start on my new computer. Since it is a separate, apparently, I can't do either windows easy transfer. Is it possible for me to locate the certificate and key, or to transfer files with the key and the certificate on my new computer (I have password from the old computer if I need that)? Can I somehow run WET on this hard drive for keys/certificates can be transferred. This seems to be a common problem from what I have read.
Otherwise, do you have ideas on how to start my old xp disk on my new system without reformatting?
Very important to get these files.
    Thank you!

First of all, I assume you mean encrypted files (EFS, Encrypting File System).  These files are encrypted with a key that is still encrypted in your system like a certificate.  In order to read your encrypted on any other system files, you must restore the certificate from a backup.  The short article is mandatory for anyone considering the use of EFS:
"Best Practices for encrypting file system"
Special attention to the subsection down titled "why you should back up your certificates.

My 150 G hard drive is full - I installed a second drive hard 150 G and need to download my original hard drive

First of all, note that "Download" isn't really an appropriate word.

Moving files from one disk to the other does not differ from moving from one folder to another folder on the same drive. There are several ways to do so. The two most common are:

    1. copy / paste

    2. open the source and destination in two instances of Windows Explorer (or my computer) and drag and drop from one to the other.
