  1. What is the exact error message you are getting?

  You can try the following steps and check.

  Step 1: Rename the Windows address book file

  a. click on start-> Search-> all files or folders.

  b. in the "All or part of the file name", type: "*.wab" (without the quotes).

  c. define the area look in to include your local hard drives, and then click search.

  NOTE: If you find more than one .wab file, make the following changes for all files.

  d. click the file .wab you find. On the file menu, click Rename.

  e. Type "oldaddress.old" and press ENTER.

  f. open Outlook Express and check.

  Step 2: Edit the registry and save dll files

  a. click on start-> Run, in the Open box, type "regedit" (without the quotation marks) and then click OK.

  b. navigate to the following registry key and delete it:

  -HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\WAB

  -HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WAB

  c. Remove wab32.dll and wab32res.dll in C:\Program Files\Common Files\System

  d. Click Start-> Run, in the Open box, type "msimn /reg" and then click OK.

  e. Click Start-> run, type "regsvr32 «c:\Program files\Common Files\System \wab32.dll»»

  f. Click Start-> run, type "regsvr32"c:\Program files\outlook express\oeimport.dll.

  g. click on start-> run, type "regsvr32"c:\Program files\outlook express\wabimp.dll.

  Important: The above mentioned steps show you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.

  This is a false error message.  They got an error message and they used it for everything.  You probably have the corruption of folders.dbx and if you delete and then OE opens fine.  See www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#7 , but you may need also some message store corruption and so it would make sense to go to the file. Identities and establish a new identity that will give you a store own message and once works fine, using the file | Import | Messages to get the messages from the old identity.

  In addition, its very important to save your messages in this kind of corruption occurs frequently.

  OE gives an error message standard it is not correctly installed.  Its a remnant message from OE4 and is false.  You probably corruption with folders.dbx and you should remove it.  See www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#7 then, after departures OE you must back up your messages and given the corruption, go to file | Identities and setup a new identity for you give a fresh message store and then you can use file | Import | Messages to bring them from the old identity.

  Just doing a refresh of the PC and have lost Office and Outlook that has been set up to receive my work email.

  I've also been locked out of my account that I've updated my cell number so do not have access to my product key to reinstall. Arghhhhhh.

  You will need to access your account (email), which is your proof of purchase (for Microsoft Office/Outlook - Outlook Express not...) * if * you have no other copy of said proof of purchase/product key/installation.

  Regarding your emails - that depends entirely on regain you access to your email account and how you got the email it in your old Outlook (POP3, IMAP, Exchange, etc.) and what you have left on the Server vs. download on your local computer and if you have backed up your local PST files with your earlier version of Microsoft Outlook.

  Outlook express is notorious for corrupt DBX files. not always as things do not work in express Ouytlook.

  Menu (Alt + T) tools > import and you can retry the import as often as you want. Each test will create a folder of expresss [number] outlook under local folders with what he got in them.

  Note that import maiol no Hey... apparently your setting came first time round.
  I would say running one of the tools on outlook express you be sure fix DBX.

  Then you have no DWORD named UseOutlook. Fix? In this case, check all of the following conditions. Don't ignore all the elements that are on older versions of OE. They are still topical.

  When you send a message, you should be able to include sound clicking format on background.  But the background is not available.   I reinstalled outlook express, but it makes no difference.  I hope someone can help me because Microsoft Help wants $99 to try to fix it.

  Define "not available". Do you add noise but can't hear it? Are these wave or midi files? Any other format will not work.
   
  The volume setting is-10000-0-10000 off voltage and 0 being full volume.
   
  Before inserting the background sound, that you make sure that your volume control is correct. Double-click the "speaker" of the clock icon. For a MIDI file, it will use the volume control marked "SW Synth" or something similar. It may vary according to your sound card.
   
  You can check your settings by clicking on the Source tab at the bottom of the Compose Message window and the search for this tag and set the volume to zero (0).
   
  If it isn't already there, finds out. Source Edit - check it out.
  Basically, just increase the volume for all formats.
   
  PS You can not reinstall OE without having to reinstall XP. It is integrated.
