Rejuvenate my vs System Restore my data

Today, when I turned on my ThinkPad T60, Vista Home Premium, I got ann error, "user profile cannot be loaded.  I followed the instructions in the Microsoft Knowledge Base and was able to open a session.  On the other hand, he deleted my user account and all related files and settings, including my e-mail archives, favorites of Explorer solutions, etc., which are important to me.  I have a backup dating a week, created by ThinkVantage.  This backup from a week is acceptable to me as a recovery vehicle.

It seems that I could either rejuvenate my system or restore it.  Can someone help me understand the difference between the two approaches and help me determine what approach best suited to my needs?

Thank you!

Thanks to all who have read and responded to my request for help.

I have restored my system, and it seemed to work as advertised except... He didn't restore my Outlook files.

I then went in the restore function where restore you specific files.  It shows the Outlook files.  I tried to restore the and it reported that save and restore "could not restore files... contact an administrator.  I have trired to restore a single file to another location, with similar results.  I tried to restore the. PST files for another connection of users on my system, with the same result.

I am an administrator on my system.  There is not enough disk space.

Sorry, but you can't do that. Instead, you can picture the system with a program like Acronis True Image Home and save this image on an external hard drive. After getting the system cleaned (or if you decide to do a clean install), you can use True Image to make an image of your own system and also imagery incremental backup for your restore image is always up to date.

BTW, I do not recommend disable the system restore first during the cleaning of a machine. Leave it on and then turn it off then clear on the old Restore Points, turning it back on.

  • How can I add multiple system restore dates?

I want to do a system restore. There are several dates of restoration listed, but I need to pick a date more back that all listed. How can I do this? It seems to me that I used to be able to click on a date on the calendar. Thank you

The number of restore points is limited by the amount of storage that are attributed to them.

You can increase this space by typing create a restore point in the start search box and press ENTER.

Then select your C: drive in the list and select Configure.

Move the slider to add more storage space.

There is no calendar in Windows 7 for restore points.

I lost the data files for the applications on my iPod Touch after a BSOD on XP so that the update to iTunes.

"Restore from backup" in iTunes restores only the empty files, due to him having a synchronization since the failure (iTunes replaces its unique to each sync backup file), so I'm now scrambling for an alternative.

What seems to offer the best chance is to do a system restore XP from a restore before the BSOD Point - but I don't know if the Restore Point contains a version of the iPod data files, which are stored in the hidden folder C:\\Documents and Settings\ (username) \Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup.

I found a note saying: the XP System Restore saves nothing of My Documents, but wonder if it means really nothing is recorded in Documents and Settings...

  • My computer has recently been very slow. I tried to do a system restore, but any date "BOLD", I select, it won't restore. I have done in the past & have this problem.

I've set up earlier a manual restore date when I did a cleanup, but I don't know how to get back to that either.

XP system restore should only be used in certain circumstances. Why do you think it's necessary?

What do you mean by "I did some clean-up?

There are two main explanations for the failure of the restoration of the system. The first is the presence of malware. The second is a program such as Norton or ZoneAlarm that interferes with the process:

  • System Restore will not restore the selected date, even if the date is in bold in the home

It just says: cannot restore the selected date

Usually, this is caused by your anti-virus program is interfering with the system restore.  Norton is especially guilty of this behavior.  Try restarting your computer in Mode without fail (repeatedly tap key the F8 key during the restart of the computer), and then perform your safe mode system restore.  When it restarts after you perform the restore, allow him to start in normal mode.
