relationship of iPhoto/icloud

My MacBook Pro is running slowly, so I want to delete some videos I have in iPhoto, but every time I have to remove a video, it removes also iCloud. I thought iCloud was a back up / storage system. How to stop the iCloud removing things, when I remove the MacBook Pro?

I'm afraid you thought wrong.

iCloud is a synchronization service. It is not out of storage of the unit. It gives you space to make backups of your iOS device, but not a Mac.

  • confusion of iCloud/iPhoto

I tried announces the following last night, but was denied a position. (problem discussed in another post that was hosted by.) The last paragraph is an update on what has happened during the night.

How does the process of transfer to iPhoto/iCloud? I have trouble because of a data cap on my satellite service. When I got to El Capitan, I tried to "update" my photos from iMac to use iCloud library and exhausted my 10 GB in a single day. Since then, I have disabled on all devices iPhoto library. When I need to update I have light them between midnight and 0500 when there is no Cap. However, now I'm trying to get my photos in a new iPad, began at 0001 a.m.. First uploaded the photo I had taken with the iPad. Then he said that it was download 4000 + photos. The option to maximize the space was lit, iPad 64 GB of storage. Then it says download and 10 minutes later, he updated and gave time. that is, it appeared to have completed the download. Then I tried to disable the library, so I wouldn't have to worry about a sort of spontaneous transfer in prime time. He said that I would lose 4,000 pictures on my iPad, but they remained in the cloud. I cancelled looked around the photo program for information on how many photos I had but could not find. At back and tried to turn it off again. This time the same message but with a different wording. Tried the cycle starts again. This time, the wording is, "the iPad could not download 4 467 photos high resolution and videos.» If you continue, the versions low resolution of these photos and videos will be deleted. "It's confusing. It cannot dl the high res so it will remove the low resolution? Did he dl pictures or didn't she?

How can I download new pictures from my cameras / iPad to the iCloud, have low resolution or vignettes on devices and download full resolution photos only when I specifically ask for them?

I left the iPad download photos and went to bed. This morning, he stopped the download, but not all of the photos are here. iCloud has pictures dating back to 2004. The iPad has their back to 2010. There is, however, not all photos from 2010. There are random blocks of several months to a lack of time. these missing blocks begin in 2015. What is going on? I understand how to use iCloud? In fact iPhoto part an inconsistent mess? Should I buy my extra storage space in DropBox instead of iCould? At the same time, I can't understand how to use the program correctly I have trouble getting a manual base and can be used to help. (Discussed in another thread). Is there an iCloud for Dummies book which is updated?

    Thank you

You are confusing a lot of terms. iPhotos is replaced with the Photos application. iPhoto & Photos are different application, so be specific on which you need help with.

In your post you are referring to the use of the iCloud library where you store all your photos in iCloud. If you have devices without enough memory, then the parameter optimize allows you to use the photo library iCloud without consuming your entire memory or hard drive space.

The library of iCloud is a paid service from Apple after 5 GB. I'm sure you know that now. It may take a very long time to download your photos and there is a maximum amount, you can download every day. So depending on the size of your library and the speed of your connection, this may take several days. I don't think that it turn on and off is a good idea. Use and leave that it enabled on your devices, or don't use it at all.

Heres a basic guide to use iCloud photo library. Read this carefully to get a better understanding. You will get more help, if you ask your questions on the use of Photos in the Photos forum.

You can google the topic iCloud photo library and get more sites:

  • How to export iMovie to external hard drive?

Being a novice in the film making, I managed to import my first interview in iMovie, but it was recorded in iPhoto/iCloud and what I need is to become if I remove it from my MacBook to my external hard drive. I managed to do a new library on the hard disk, but not to settle the iMovie. Can I delete iMovie and start again from the camcorder? Thanks in advance.

To move your project to the new library project and in the project on the project window mouse click and click the circle with points. Select this option to move the project and library on the EHD. Note the EHD should be in MAC OS Extended journaled format.

  • Can I download Iphoto to Icloud?

Please can I get some help! My iPhoto is currently on an external hard drive, that I ran out of storage on the Macbook and an employee of Currys suggested that I do this. If I buy a larger iCloud (I only have the 5 GB for free one right now), I am able to download thousands of photos/images and slideshows in iPhoto on there? The reason why I ask this question, the hard drive seems to be somewhat capricious and corrupt some images, and I'm worried it will stop working soon.

    Thank you

iPhoto does not support iCloud photo library, you need Photos for Mac that allows you to keep your photo library in iCloud.

To save your photos buy a backup disk to copy your iPhoto library here.

If you do not have a backup of our photos now buy two new hard drives. A disk to store your library of photos and a drive for backup of our photo library.  It is not record not to have only one copy of your photos.

  • How to transfer pictures from iPhoto to iCloud

I have a Mid 2010 iMac OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 running version and am trying to transfer my photos from iPhoto to iCloud so I don't lose them when I get my new Mac. I tried highlighting them and moving them to a new stream of photos, but it works. I don't want to have to buy an external hard drive. Said the man on the Apple store for transfer to iCloud.

    Hi creekercat,

There are many options to solve this problem. It would be to get a thumb drive or storage device of some sort that you already own to store them on. Better yet, if you Google Drive or Dropbox, download them from here. I don't really recommend put you your pictures on iCloud because it takes lots of storage. If you have any of the above options, you might as well wait for the new Mac and their parachuting directly through Finder to your new Mac. It will be a long process, but hey, at least you don't lose your files.

    Good luck

  • Download iPhoto to iCloud: when it starts loading and synchronization

I decided my iCloud 200 GB of storage on the rise so I could back up my iPhoto (65 GB) library on iCloud for safety and, secondarily, sharing to my other devices. I upgraded iCloud and then clicked on the preferences to save my iPhoto library to iCloud. Nothing has changed at the moment and I was wondering if I should do something else to get the download/synchronization began. Any advice on when it will start or if I should take further measures. Thank you very much for all the advice.

    Skip

You should not need to do anything extra. Check if, by chance, the download is suspended. Photos > Preferences > iCloud > Pause button someday. If this is the case, you can resume at any time.

The download takes a long time. With a large library, it could be a week or more. Even the initial preparation takes many hours.

Give him time and leave your computer turned on and connected to the Internet during the night.

  • IPhoto and iCloud library backup

Hello - I've changed the location of the iPhoto library of HD on an external drive.  iCloud as results started to download all the photos again.  ICloud creates a duplicate? How can I make iCloud realize that this is the same library?

No it's not duplicate anything - it checks to see if iCloud.com is correct - when you moved the Photos of the library has no idea if it's the same thing or not and have check - in mhy personal experience it's much faster than the upload of the Moose, but more needs to be done and has no way to shortcut it

  • Is iCloud photo library space use doubled if I use Photos and iPhoto apps?

IPhotos and Photos apps right now: If an image appears at the same time it

be transferred twice (with the help of double the amount of space) in iCloud storage space?

IPhotos and Photos apps right now: If an image appears at the same time it

be transferred twice (with the help of double the amount of space) in iCloud storage space?

No, you can not use iCloud with iPhoto and Photos at the same time on the same computer.  Photo library only at a time can synchronize with iCloud (My Photo Stream, shared Albums, iCloud, library).  If you enable iCloud for a Photo library, it will be disabled for the previous library.

Sine you use Yosemite - in the first versions of Yosemite was a problem, and it was possible to activate my photo stream in iPhoto and iCloud library in Photos at the same time. But my photo stream does not count against your iCloud free storage, that is used for library iCloud, there is no overlap in iCloud photo library.

  • iPhotos, photos, iCloud?

I just transferred my huge library of iPhoto (120GB) to Photos app on my iMac, which is not sync to iCloud, but they are all stored on a local hard drive.  I also have iPhone where I backup all of my Photos on iCloud (25 GB) - and can see all these when I go into the Photos on my Macbook Air, where I don't store any separate photos.

My question is (and I tried Googling and forums search) - if I turn now on iCloud sync on my iMac, photos from the iMac Photos get uploaded to iCloud Photos?  Then the pictures in the iCloud for my phone download on my iMac and get them merged into the local library?  And what of my phone and macbook air?  Can see all the photos of my iMac on the macbook Air (not on the phone, I'm going to assume that this is a one-way synchronization to iCloud only?).

I'm trying to find the best way to consolidate somewhere, all my pictures from my phone and my iMac...  Without all these transfer to my macbook air does not take valuable storage capacity.

Thank you!! (And my apologies, I am a newbie in the forums, where my question is not worded correctly!)

When you enable iCloud photo library on multiple devices, pictures of these separate devices will download to iCloud photo library to create a photo library unified in iCloud. And all the photos that you upload to iCloud photo library will be uploaded to all devices that use iCloud photo library.

The library will be updated to be the same on all devices.  Do not enable iCloud library on where you don't want to have all your photos uploaded to devices.

You could disable iCloud photo library on your MacBook Air, or use the "Optimize Mac Storage" option.  While the MacBook Air will only download small and optimized your photo versions and does not store the originals of complete sizes.

  • What is the relationship between the library of Photos and the iPhoto library?

I'm asking this question here because I can't find all the relevant information online.

I was dealing with imac a client recently who had a full boot drive. I noticed that his old iPhoto library used 126GB while she had already made the transition to the Photos. His photo library said that he was using a lot more (200 + if I remember correctly). I copied the iPhoto on an external drive library and deleted. Then, I opened the contents of the package and imported pictures remains in program pictures to make sure that I wasn't actually remove all of his memories. Once the work is finished, I was surprised to see that there are more than 6 GB of free space on his computer. What gives? Is there a relationship between the old iPhoto library and new photo library? If so, what is it? Is what I did without danger? I understand at the time that she will not be able to return to iPhoto. But what I'm missing?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

No - they are totally separate - connection or relationship of any kind is not

or the other can be deleted without any effect on the other - but it won't save much space at all and is not recommended - which is exactly what you have seen- Photos saves disk space to share images with your iPhoto or Aperture - Apple Support libraries

Three ways to get the iCloud sharing back:

1 - Go to the App Store and see if you have iPhoto 9.5.1 in the item being purchased.  If she is here to move your current iPhoto app to the trash, go back to the App Store and download and install 9.6.1.

2 - your iPhoto to restore the backup of your hard drive application done just before your factory reset.

3 - upgrade to El Capitan and Photos that has even more features share iCloud.
