I use my iMac to back up my devices to families who use four different ID of Apple and iTunes keeps everything separated and organized. Note that if you intend to restore the device from backup, it must transfer purchases to the Mac if your mother has applications that you do not on Mac. Alternatively, you can use iCloud on his device to create the backup, and then use iTunes on Mac to restore the device to unlock, and then restore the backup to iCloud.
