Relocation of recovery on Portege 7140 CD

Can someone send me the startup disk to reinstall the recovery CD on a protected 7140 with a player external CDROM (F-TO-TCD - 24L). Tried everything and Toshiba seems to be unable to understand the problem that the CD-ROM drive is not getting recognized. Thank you very much

Hello

to boot from an external drive, I think that you must press F12 on startup in the start menu. There you can select the right device. You can do it directly with the recovery CD.

Good bye

  • Portege 7140 first installation

    Hello
I have an old 7140 Portege that I bought from a friend. But there is no restore etc. disks. The portege 7140 doesn't have an internal cdrom drive but an external that is not recognized at boot making it a little more difficult installation.

I bought an external hard drive case and copied the files of Windows XP installation on the hard disk. I then used a boot disk to get the prompt back and run the winnt.exe Setup program in ~/i386/ it seems to work very well and is part of the substance of the standard installation. Then it restarts and comes to the part of the Setup program when the screen is blue. Then it says windows startup and does nothing else. I tried the same procedure with Windows 2000 and got the same result.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you

    Alex

    Hello

Unfortunately, it's not easy to say why it of not possible to install the operating system.
Your installation procedure is not a standard installation, and there could be question of installation.
I've never tried your recommended METHOD and I guess that it doesn't work with every BONE. I suggest using the extended drive
Before you install any Windows OS please ensure that the system is installed with the latest BIOS.

PS: I visited the driver Toshiba page but I put t find all the XP drivers for this device. Drivers are available only for 98, NT and W2k

  • Cannot load Windows XP Home Edition on portege 7140

In the configuration of the BIOS for my toshiba portege 7140, I can't change the settings for the DVD-ROM/Docking station. I have a new hard drive I can't install windows xp on, because the cd/dvd player will not play (it starts to spin then stops). Even with my old hard drive with xp on it, I couldn't drive to game/recognize any CD.

I had bought a new larger hard drive (40 GB, as opposed to the old 6 GB one) but impossible to install windows on it because I can not install from the CD. Even if I already downloaded of the Setup files from disk, I need to finish the process of the XP install disk, but I can't.

I'm unable to find or change the bios settings to solve this problem.

    Hi Mitchell,

I don't know what parameters in the BIOS you want to change for your optical drive. How are you optical drive connected to your laptop, it is USB or built in?

It would be better to get your drive working properly with your existing 6 GB HARD drive before trying to re - install XP on your new HARD drive.

  • The Portege 7140 (HDD, memory) upgrade

    Hello
I recently bought a second hand Portege through eBay. I did a little research and I feel that the 7140 has a Bay memory expansion in which I can put a stick of memory of 32 MB, 64 MB, 128 MB, or 256 MB. Toshiba sells only a maximum of 128 MB, but Kingston sells a key of 256 MB for laptop. The 256 MB will work fine?

Second question - can stick any disk drive 2.5 "EIDE in the laptop? Is there a technical specification somewhere that lists the BIOS revision against the sizes of drive support?

Last question - I have not actually received the laptop again and read the pdf data sheet it seems as if she isn't an internel floppy drive? If this is correct, the only way I'll be able to upgrade the bios is through the windows, is this correct? The only problem, if this is the case, it's that I use Linux not Windows. I might have to buy an external floppy drive.

In any case thank you for any help or suggestions anyone may have.

    Jon

    Hi Spinksi,

Colleague of mine has the same machine at home. He put 256 MB of RAM and it works fine. Its RAM is manufactured by Toshiba. You can also use RAM Kingston.

There's also a 20-GB HARD drive. It works fine. Before changing do updating BIOS HARD drive. You can find the latest Version on http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin under download BIOS. You'll find Toshiba BIOS update Description. Read it before you continue. It is very important.

So I know we're no sort of spec where you can find data on the BIOS and disk sizes.

Answer to your last question is: you're right. Portege had no floppy drive, and you need to update the BIOS. But I'm sure you can find cheap one by ebay.

    Good bye

  • Product is complete recovery - Toshiba Portege M300 does not start

    Hello.

I have a Portege M300 Toshiba I got again in 2006. It has progressively slower over the years, so yesterday, I thought I would use the product recovery CD to reinstall the factory settings.

Put the CD in restarted with F12, selected CD player, follow the instructions on the screen, he went through unpacking process... but once completed and handed over to market get you the Toshiba welcome screen then it seems that it will start, but it blocks just with a white screen... nothing not even a cursor flashing.

The hard disk does not even appear to be spinning?
I tried this process now 6 times and I'm starting to pull my hair!

    Anyone got any ideas?

    > The hard disk does not appear still to be spinning?
Well, it looks like a disc is defective.
The blinking cursor is a typical sign of a malfunction of the HARD drive.
I think that you need to replace the HARD drive and should reinstall the OS once more

    Good luck

  • Big problems with my Portege 7140

My computer (with X) crushed and windows does not start. Whenever he tries to go into windows (the blacscreen with white markers), it crashes just - I tried to fix the system with my XP disk but everytime I get a blue screen with an error message long claiming a missing partmgr.sys. I tried a boot disk, but the system will not read the boot or diagnostic CD (ISO) I do. I told the bios to boot the cd first. But every time I get an error "PXE - E61 Media Test Failure - check connection"

As you can see everything I try defective - that means the error and how can I get around it? Advice for me would be very much appreciated.

    Hello!
I had the same failure Message with my Portege 7010! My dealer told me that the motherboard IDE controller was vice.
I think it would be best to contact your Toshiba Notebook dealer for control upward.

  • Drive necessary recovery for Portege R500-121

I have a problem with installing XP from the original recovery disk (Reanimator). Maybe it's broken.
Can someone upload the disk image? It would be very kind.

I don't think this is working. Please note that we are not talking about some simply application that can be copied and exchanged.
And if someone gives you this image you will not be able to burn on blank media or run it on any other way.

    It's a little complicated. I'm sure you'll understand why.

  • Recovery on Portege M200?

First of all, everyone knows how to fix system restore problem, when I start the system restore, it appears only a blank window, so I could not restore my computer to an earlier point, which I think can solve the problem together...
Since then, I could not find a way for the first...
The second is: I have a lot of problem with my Windows XP and I want to just restore the laptop... but I'm having trouble looking for a PCMCIA DVD player...
The recovery disk is a DVD disc, but as far I am concerned, using cards PCMCIA 16 bits only let the phone recognize a CDROM drive, not a DVDROM drive... So, what should I do now?
Where do I buy a DVD-ROM drive that can start so I can use my recovery disk to restore?
    Thank you

    Hello

In my view, the problem with the restoration of the system is OS and I can really don t understand why this has happened. If you restart your device several times that's happened this new?

If you need a DVD-ROM external appropriate and compatible for protégé M200 player, you can find it under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com under Product Options & Drive accessory devices. Check the disk with this PA3401U-1DVD part number.

  • Portege 7140 + CPU?

Hi, what kind of socket 7140 at?, BGA or PGA?...

And if its CPU speed PGA do I put in?, think about 1 GHz if it is posible. BTW, how 7140 handles Linux?

    Hello

Sorry, but I'm not sure that someone on this forum can give you information about this. It is a very sensitive issue and you need to look for someone who is qualified for this kind of question.

In my opinion, you should contact Toshiba Service partner.

  • Cannot start the installation of recovery for Portege M200

    Hello

I've used the DVD of recovery a long time ago, but now he won early t. Instructions tell you to:
    1 insert the disc
2nd turn the pc on while keeping the key C pressed
    3. follow the instructions that appear on the screen

I tried as indicated but nothing happens and windows starts normally. I also tried to open the DVD when the pc is on and I can see the files but can t start the process.

Can someone help me solve this problem?

    Hello

have you tried to boot from the DVD? Of course, you can see the files on the DVD, but perhaps you need to change the boot order so it starts on the DVD instead. To do this, restart the computer, and then press F2 when you see the Toshiba logo on the screen during startup (F2 or which key it tells you to press to enter setup).

Move to the boot order in the BIOS setup and exchange the CD/DVD with the HARD drive so that the CD/DVD is top of the list. Go into the menu of the BIOS Exit Saving Changes and the computer will reboot. I hope that the recovery DVDs should start now, if it works and the completion of all facilities to return to the menu of the BIOS and follow the same instructions to change the CD/DVD in the second and put the HARD drive to the top of the list.

I hope that answers your question.
