Remote restart ESXi 3.5 u4

Hello

We lack ESXi 3.5 u4 in a production environment, and so far it's been solid. I would like to make the administration of the House and I've been searching the net all day, but have not yet found the answer. What I'm trying to achieve is:

1. stopped our VMs

2. distance of the ESXi Server

3 restart our VMs

Now I can VPN into work and the use of the VIC to stop the virtual machines that is no problem but how do I restart the server ESXi does? I don't see an option in the VIC, unless I'm being blind. I have to use the remote CLI? I installed, nix and windows, but have failed to find what I need to know.

Any help much appreciated.

Thank you.

Can you right click on the name of your ESXi server and select "reboot"?  I do not have my ESXi server turned on right now, but the option appears for ESX.

If you are missing the option, perhaps you log in VIC with the user account do not have the necessary permissions.  Try to login as 'root '.

You can do in ESX configuration.

Select ESX / Configuration / VM StartupShutodown

Activate (default is disable) and select the boot order.

  • Remote Update ESXI 4.1 to ESXi 5.5: no physical access

    Hello

I did some research and I realize that the best way to upgrade the host small deployment ESXi 4.1 is the interactive CD mode. Unfortunately, the server is in another country. Is it possible to do it remotely? In addition, I have no way to move the host servers, to keep safe unless I have a template of the FVO. Is it enough for the host software upgrade process? It is of course a production machine.

    Thank you

    Ryan

If the downtime is an option, which of course is necessary, you can just pass the host without affecting the machines. The machines will be present on a data store, and they will not be on the disk that hosts Esxi OS (unless you have all of this on a single disc, which is very bad thing to do).

Its almost like a windows machine, when you re-install/update the OS changes/formatting occurs only on the operating system drive and you always keep the files on other players.

  • Remote Shutdown ESXi servers

    Good day everyone!

I use ESXi 5.5.0 on Dell and HP servers. I can remote shut down all virtual machines inside servers, but I don't know how to stop remote servers.

    We will explain:

When the power source is lost. I have only one auto power off server that plugs directly into the inverter. Before its closure, a command script will be executed at the stop other servers on the network (including virtual machines). But the ESXi server that still store virtual machines running. I do not know how to stop remotely (by command, or 3rd software...). I'm worried about my data may be lost if the ESXi servers are not safe stop.

    Another question:

If I can stop the ESXi server remotely. Do I have to stop a virtual machines before you stop the real server? Or I can use 'virtual machine startup/shutdown' options to auto shut off all the virtual machine inside the ESXi Server?

I use the paid license 5.5.0 of ESXi and vCenter 5.5.0.

    Thanks in advance!

If the virtual machines are not safely stop and then start/stop option can be disabled in the host.

launch the vsphere client session to the ESXi server and verify that the settings are activated.

Regarding ssh, it is nothing more than a protocol like RDP connection for unix machines

We have a tool called Putty to establish an ssh session to the ESXi server. Follow the steps in the article, select ssh shell alone is not necessary. Use the method to do, vsphere client it will be easier

  • ISCSI Lun gone after restart ESXI-home

    Hello

I have 2 hosts 5.1 ESXI and QNAP 1 for iscsi storage.

When I restart a host, a logical unit number is gone (other Lun 4 is available).

I have the following procedure to resolve this problem:

    # esxcfg - volume - m "vmfs_label_name".

and then refresh data warehouses in my configuration.

What happens after each reboot the ESXI host.

As I say... the other 4 LUNs with the same configuration do not have this problem.

    How can I fix?

    THX.

    esxcfg-volume - m "vmfs_label_name".

    Using esxcfg-volume-M

M must be capital because it would be persistenet to reboot

  • After restart ESXI Virtual Machine back to start

I have an a bit Esxi 4 Virtual Machine but he is the one who each time to restart VmWare machine system begins to start, if I put a file or install software after restart all software and data are cleaned of VmWare and I have to reinstall all, why?

This Virtual Machine is a migration of a real machine.

    Welcome to the forums

There is an explanation why this can happen.

1 VM start after reboot of the host:

Look under the tab of host - start/stop the Virtual Machine configuration

See if this virtual machine is enabled to start when the start host

Disable this if you do not want that it

    2. all changes on VM ignored after reboot

Right-click the virtual machine and choose change setting

Take a look at the hard drive options, it can be set to independent - not persistent

    Uncheck independent or select persistent

  • Restart ESXi

I'm trying to find out if an ESXi host will attempt to do a phasing out of the virtual machines running on it, if I tell the host to do a reboot of the console using F11.

    Kind regards

    Paul

If you have your virtual computer startup/shutdown options set on a stand-alone host, the part of the option "guest to stop" must stop, that is a soft stop.

If your host is part of an HA cluster, then no, guests will be "turned off".

  • Cursor flashing after restart ESXi

    Hello

My installation of vSphere worked fine for past months, but this morning I had to reload my two hosts (identical hardware) and now ESXi does not start on either.  I get the usual BIOS messages and then just a white screen with a blinking cursor.

Suggestions for what I should try?  If I run a repair from the installation disc is it possible that a data store is going to get destroyed?

    Thank you.

You may have a problem with the boot order. You can try to change the boot order in the bios.

  • ESXi 5.0 - do not save the changes SD. changes after restart

Try to solve problems with USB passthrough and needing to make changes to the configuration. Whenever a change is made, it is destroyed after a reboot.

After digging around the shell, it seems to me that the system uses local.tgz configuration instead of/bootbank/state.tgz file. Ive brought changes, and each time I checked these files. In the esx.conf file I see that nothing changes on the file local.tgz but it does on the state.tgz file. This may not mean anything, and I could look at this all wrong. I confirmed that backups are spend the hour + 1 min and I made manual backups with the script/sbin/auto - backup.sh.

One thing to mention is that when I do edit and run the auto - backup.sh I see that it lists the changes, and I see that it is what I guess it is in the file local.tgz.

I read a number of different ways to this address, but none seem to be able to help.

I have attempted to copy the file state.tgz on the local.tgz file and change the permissions on it. To restart, local.tgz file returned to the date that was the 13th but the state.tgz file remains to day it seems.

I think I should be able to point just sort the system starts on the state.tgz file but I don't know if this is possible / should already be the case / makes sense given that we use an SD card to begin.

I read in this document http://www.vm-help.com/esx41/adding_files_to_state_tgz.php that if you use an SD card, it will start on the local.tgz file.

    I used this guide http://store.vmware.com/store/vmware/en_US/DisplayProductDetailsPage/ThemeID.2485600/productID.28435970

to see if I could adjust the location of the file... scratch that change does not persist after a reboot.

I think that the only way I could solve this problem is to start on an iso of linux and to make changes.

Any ideas on how to solve this problem or there at - it a way to indicate to the synchronization local.tgz and state.tgz system?

    Thank you.

    I got the problem solved.

For all those who need assistance on this I hope this helps:

Found that when under the configuration of host-> advanced if USB devices are passthrough value, they will not be monitored by the usbarbitrator service. This service allows for the virtual machines to use USB devices.

I could not change it because the system does not update the SD card when configuration changes are made.

    Two options:

Edit the file esx.conf on the SD card

    or

    Re-install ESXi

    I went with option 1.

    used this post

How to disable Passthrough ESXi my conclusions

Ubuntu iso desktop to live starting in the system.

From there on, I was able to edit the files and restart ESXi. This fixed my issue.

You can schedule the reboot of the ESXi host using PowerCLI.

Install the PowerShell and PowerCLI module on any Windows System.

    PowerCLI start programs

or, you can run the commands below on PowerCLI prompt to test.

Then save it the script to run as the specific annex filename.ps1 and Windows Task Scheduler.

    SE connect-VIServer vlab-esxi2 - root username - password "password".

    $vms = get - vm | where {$_.} PowerState - eq "Receptor"}

    foreach ($vm in $vms) {Shutdown-VMGuest - VM $vm - confirm: $false}

    sleep 60

    Restart-VMHost-Force - confirm: $false

See this post to know how to program a PowerCLI script.

  • MegaRAID M5015 on ESXi 5.0

Having problems connecting to remote ESXi 5.0 servers to 15 MegaRAID running on a Windows 2008 R2 server. Windows server is on the same subnet as the ESX servers, firewall Windows and ESX have 3071 & 5571 TCP and UDP ports. On a single server, I got the "lsiprovider 00.04.V0.55 - 0006" vib installed, on the other I vib "scsi-megaraid-sas 6.607.06.00 - 1OEM.500.0.0.472560" installed, nor work. What else I can check / change to get this to work?

I use M5016 (aka LSI-9266/9271) but it could be similar with regard to M5015 (LSI-9260):

I updated the bios, driver, PMI, storcli all the latest version and after restarting the whole 'Storage' section disappeared from vSphere Client-> Configuration-> health of ESXi. But despite this, "storcli /c0 see all" could always get complete info on the controller, the tables and records.

Then I went down smis-supplier of:

    VMW-ESX-5.x.0-lsiprovider-500.04.v0.55-0006-2619867.zip

    a version of return to:

    VMW-ESX-5.x.0-lsiprovider-500.04.v0.54-0004-2395881.zip

I restarted ESXi and State of health of storage was back again, with all the info (arrays, drives, battery, etc.)! So I guess there is a problem with the latest lsi smis-provider. Try to use the old smis-provider and see if it works for you...

  • Huh? "Remote Control Panel" came with the update of the firmware, LaserJet P4014n

I have 3 Laserjet P4014n recently updated to firmware 20140127 04.210.5.  If I use EWS log in as local administrator I see there's a new entry on the tab named "Remote Control Panel. I'd love to see what he does, but I can't.

With the help of IE11, I click on 'Remote Control Panel' and receive a alert 'ActiveX settings are required to use the remote control panel. There is an 'OK' button below this alert. By clicking on the button 'OK' makes me a "sorry, unsupported browser.

I fooled with my settings ActiveX IE11 and not got anywhere. The documentation for the update of the firmware is vague.

Can someone tell me what is this new feature of 'Remote Control Panel' intrigueing?

    Answering my own question:

A couple firmware updates, this EWS feature has been removed from my P4014n printers but added to my printers LaserJet Enterprise M601n.

I dropped the past months trying to understand what he's doing since clicking on it never did much. But today, I accidently clicked on 'Remote Control Panel' and got a double chart of the front of the printer with all the buttons (OK, up/down arrows, red X, home, back and a numeric keypad). There is also an option "restart".

It's very cool like SAP M601n does not in any way to simply cancel a job stuck in the queue. I was remotely restart the printer.
