Remove a pop-up for compacting messages in Outlook Express 6.

I was doing a pop-up asking me if I want to compact messages in Outlook Express in order to free disk space. It's very boring and very frequent. I don't know how to do it go away. I am able to get rid of him, and if so, how?

As mentioned above, it will be in the control panel.

In the case of Windows Search, you must be told to stop indexing OE.

In the control panel. Indexing Options. Change. Clear the check box for Outlook Express.

If you see the prompt again, you may leave compact once to clear the meter in the registry. It won't cause any harm.

*********************

But, also, you said that you have modified the registry to 0. Have you ever he let compact once?

This is a very good article, but it does not address your problem. It is usually Windows Search, but it could be something else.

The problem is with the registry counter which gives you the prompt after 100 closures of OE. It is increased faster than it should be after you install SP3, even if you use not OE. Here are some of the possible causes.

Keyboard IBM rapid access (pilot) RAKDLL. DLL
    Search Windows {office}
    MailWasher
    Nero-plug-in (s)

Opening of EML files while OE is closed will also help the County to register.

Different antivirus, antispyware, and third-party firewall, especially if they were running when you installed SP3.

  • I lost 16 months of emails when I click "Compact Messages" in Outlook Express - Help!

I searched on the internet and made the following to address my problem-

. Working offline with Outlook Express

. Open Recycle Bin on the Windows desktop

. The '.bak' file located I wanted back

. Clicked on the file '.bak' with the right button of the mouse

. Restore selected in the menu

BUT now, I can't locate the file in Windows Explorer and open the folder that's in.  How can I find the file - I did a search for all files and folders, and anything else that is listed, but it comes up with zero results.  HELP PLEASE

In addition to Bruce's response, go to tools | Options | Advanced | Maintenance | Storage folder and that will show you the location of the message store.  Copy to this location.

Then go to control panel | Folder options | View and uncheck Hide extensions of known file types and check the option to show hidden files and folders (the message store and its files are hidden).

Then, open Windows Explorer and paste it into the location you copied into the address bar and then you should find the dbx and bak files.

Then see www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#imp1 to re-import the bak file in OE.  If it doesn't matter, then you may need my DBXpress (www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/) program to retrieve messages.

  • We clicked on "Compact messages" in Outlook Express and 6 months of messages disappeared! Any ideas as to the why, where they could be, and how they can be recovered?

We watched in 'Deleted items' and they weren't there.  We also "restored" the bin "recycling" and even did not see them return.

    Hi James,

Thanks for posting. Please, try the following.

    • Make sure that Outlook Express is not working.
    • Open the Recycle Bin on your Windows desktop .
    • Locate the files ".bak" corresponding to Outlook Express folders that you want to retrieve.
      • The '.bak' file will be named as the folder in Outlook Express.
      • To restore a folder called "Archive", look for "Archive.bak", for example.
    • Click on the file '.bak' with the right button of the mouse.
    • Select restore from the menu.
    • Locate the file in Windows Explorer and open the folder that contains.
    • Drag and drop the file ".dbx" corresponding to the Outlook Express folder, you want to get back to your Office .
    • In the Outlook Express store folder, click the '.bak' file to be retrieved using the right button of the mouse.
    • Select Rename from the menu.
    • Change the file extension ".bak" in ".dbx".
      • If the file was called "Archive.bak", for example, make sure that it is named "Archive.dbx" now.
    • Open Outlook Express.
    • If your emails have been recovered, remove the ".dbx" file you moved to the desktop .

Also, if you cannot find the files in the above location search your computer *. Bak

    I hope this helps!

You don't offer a lot of information and a new thread of your own would have been better than locking it.

Do you have an error message when you try to send? If so, post it. If this is not the case, make sure that there are no messages in the Outbox.

If there is, check: file | Work offline and in: reviews | Layout: uncheck the preview pane. You can remove them now?

If this isn't the case, create a new Outbox.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, 2K & 2K 3, files from user OE (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in the Solution Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder options | View.

With OE closed, find the DBX the Outbox.dbx file and delete it. A new vacuum will be created automatically when you open OE.
  • I've lost the ability to remove the messages from Outlook Express

I lost the ability to delete messages from Outlook Express shipped with Windows XP. Does anyone know how to fix this please?

You have corruption of dbx files.

Spend most of your messages out of the Inbox and move the messages you want to record off deleted items, and sent items. Locate the OE message store and then close OE.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

With OE closed, find the Deleted Items.dbx and Sent Items.dbx files and delete them. New files will be created automatically when you open OE.

Compact all folders as described below.

To avoid this in the future:

Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

Information on the maximum size of the .dbx files that are used by Outlook Express:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/?kbid=903095

After you're done, followed by compacting your folders manually while working * off * and do it often.

Click Outlook Express at the top of the the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work offline (or double-click on work online in the status bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.

  • Import e-mail messages from Outlook Express in Windows Live Mail?

I have recently moved to a new PC with Win7 and have been using Live Mail - more often with success, I thought with the exception of one or two faults, but I'll probably post a question on those.
On the audit of my old PC today, when I open Oulook Express have been downloaded more than 100 emails that have not appeared in Live Mail - dating back to the time I went.
I tried to export these messages of OE, put it on a USB key and then import in LM LM do not seem to recognize them - these are the dbx files. Suggestions anyone please?
    Thank you in advance.
    Jeff.

If both computers use the same e-mail address, you must do this to get the messages on both.

On both machines: tools | Accounts | Mail | Properties | Advanced - Check: leave a copy of messages on the server.

On a single computer only, make sure to delete messages after X days to satisfy your allocated space that you get from your server.

  • Cannot receive messages in Outlook Express

Recently (for the first time) I consulted my ISP mail service. Since then, I have been unable to receive messages in Outlook Express, even if I can send them. When I check new messages, I get a connection, but no new messages. Some of my messages are confused on my e.mail of ISPs. I checked all my settings etc for OE account, and they look very good. It was working perfectly before. Any ideas, help would be appreciated.

    Hello

If all worked correctly before you enter you e-mail service so I guess that it s a virus or a malware application.
I put t know if you use your Anti virus but you should! It is very important to have this application and also it is very important to update your anti virus everyday software.

Incorrect settings in Outlook are another possibility.

How can I find dbx file so that I can remove it.  I'm unable to open outlook express

    Original title: dbx file

    You try to remove Folders.dbx?

In Windows XP, the files of user OE (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

The path to the message will be very similar to this:

    C:\Documents and Settings\Your User of utilisateur\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\ {long string of letters & numbers} \Microsoft\Outlook Express

With OE closed, find the Folders.dbx file and delete it.  Another will be created automatically when you open OE.

    Note these possible side effects:

When you re - start OE, it will build a new index of all *.dbx files it can read and create a new Folders.dbx. However, understand that you will lose the mail directory structure and message rules will probably have to be edited.
