Remove duplicates in Windows Media Player

I just RIPed may cds and other titles in doubles. Is their an easy way to find and remove duplicates?

Hello...
When you say "double-track" is an error of sorts - or are these tracks you have on more than one album (as in a 'Best Of compilation... ("or similar)? If this is the removal of the latter the WMP library is the best option...

Note The point to always remember when deleting music is to do it from WMP itself or the location of the file - do not delete it from the music library of the Explorer or you will corrupt the wmp library.

Open wmp, select 'Music' (as highlighted in snip) and in the menu dropdown organize (see figure) click on "sort by" and choose title... then in the 'display options' (snip) drop-down menu to choose details - tracks will be listed by alphabetical (example highlighted) and you can highlight a right click and choose 'Delete library' or ' remove library and computer "as preferred.

Hope this helps - R

(btw this is W7 so this may look slightly different in W8)

    Hello

If you have duplicates in Windows Media Player library, you can try to clear the database of Windows Media Player and check if it helps you to solve the problem.

    Step 1:

To do this, follow these steps:

    1. exit Windows Media Player.

    2. for Windows 7: click Start, run, %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player and then click on OK.

    3. Select all the files in the folder, and then click delete on the file menu.

Note you don't have to remove the folders that are in this folder.

    4. restart Windows Media Player.

Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

    Step 2:

If this does not resolve the problem, disable the Windows Media Player database cache files. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. exit Windows Media Player.

    2. If you are running Windows 7, click Start, run, % LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft, and then click OK.

3 select the folder Media Player, and then click delete on the file menu.

    4. restart Windows Media Player.

Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

Note: Before performing the steps above, I suggest to save the songs and try the steps above.

If this is not enough and you want to remove duplicate files there are third-party application to do the job. You can search your favorite search engine and download third-party software to remove the tracks twice in Windows.

  • adding new files or remove the old Windows Media Player files. (Vista)

Since June 2010, I was not able to add new files or remove the old Windows Media Player files.  I can click on a new file and play using WMP or add to a playlist that is currently playing, but it does not recognize that it was added after as I close the program and re-open it.  Or I can delete the files that no longer exist on my computer but WMP always has them as my files.  When I click on add new media, it recognizes the right amount of files I would be adding, says to add them and then nothing is there.

Your media library has probably been corrupted. To reset, follow the instructions for WMP 11 Vista at http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#medialibrary . Note the reset of the library will make you lose all the counts to play and possibly ratings too. Tim Baets

When I copy music from a CD and copy that music from the library to a flash drive, the music is now protected that I can't play anywhere else but a PC. How to remove this protection?

    Hi ToniAli,

    Method 1
I suggest you try the steps from the following links and see if that helps.

When you try to use Windows Media Player 11 to play a digital camera digital rights management (DRM) - multimedia file protected, the media can not play

You may be unable to read content protected after your computer hardware changes

    Method 2
If you copied CDs for protected Windows Media Audio files, the CD must be copied again.

Uncheck "copy protect option" in Windows media player and then tear up the new CD

  • AVCHD missing codecs for Windows Media Player

Somehow the codec for. MTS and. Video AVCHD M2TS files have been removed from the Windows Media Player support files. It is possible that the DivX codec, I have installed third party announced on the Internet may be the culprit. (I have since uninstalled this application.) But because Microsoft does not allow me to download a new copy of WMP, I don't know how to restore these codecs. It's embarrassing because I am a videographer and have designed and built my premium system for HD video work.

As a side note, I have Cyberlink PowerDVD which will play Blu - Ray and other MTS and M2TS files, but I much prefer to use WMP. Suggestions how to recover my WMP components? Thanks for your suggestions.

Thanks for your suggestions. I tried everything that you and other recommended without success, but done to restore my drive system from a backup system 3 - months. Once that all the drivers and third-party programs updates (automatically in most cases), everything worked well, and I didn't have to reinstall my Windows 7 Pro. I'm happy now. Thanks again.

  • Windows Media Player suddenly hangs at startup-load after 5-7 minutes

No matter what I do with Windows Media Player, it will freeze at startup and leave me with the WMP window and a white space for all 5-7mins. Only after that about 5-7 minutes will be WMP finely show program.  If I open the only app without trying to play a media file, it will freeze for 5 to 7 minutes initially and display icon work. After the long wait it seems to work pretty well as long I have drag and drop a media file into the game box (that is to say, if I drag a video in the game box, it will play and I have a lot of control as usual), but as soon as I closed and reopened WMP it again. If I play a media file, as a video of any codec the player will freeze at the beginning, but always play the video without problem, I won't be able to change anything when he plays or close WMP. Windows 7 doesn't freeze, only media player. If I wait long enough it will allow me to try to close the app with X and I get the dialog box "Not responding" with this in detail (option ' Check for Solution ' is running then all of a sudden farm with no other information):

THINGS, I TRIED TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM:

    • Remove files from Windows Media Player of AppData\Local\Microsoft\Media player database - no change
    • Remove WMP Cache files to the player AppData\Local\Microsoft\Media - no change
    • Uninstall and reinstall WMP with 'Turn windows features on and out' - no change after not reinstall
    • Create a new user account with admin rights and a fresh desktop - no change, WMP freezes on other user accounts
    • Installed all the K-Lite codec pack - no change
    • Computer scanned with Kaspersky Pure for the viruses and Trojans - no change
    • Running a "clean boot" had no effect on the problem
    • Ran sfc/scannow by admin command not speedy - no change, no error found
    • Checked OS disk for errors - no change, no error

Note: I'm starting to think that there is an underlying problem, and that WMP is not the root cause, because another program I use called Sonicfire Pro, which is used to play the music video production began trolling and hang seriously when starting and trying to play music files. Windows Media Center seems to work fine, as well as all other programs I've tried so far.

    It works again!

I did nothing within Windows. I got everything disconnected from the computer and restarted afterwords with only a single monitor (I normally have two) and Windows Media Player, but also the Sonicfire Pro audio program worked flawlessly again... even with the second monitor. I can't explain how it was set, or why it did not work, but everything is back to normal now.
