Replacement of HDD on Satellite U840-10R

Hello

I currently have a problem on my computer (Satellite U840 - 10R Reference: PSU4WE-00E017FR).

The SSD (32 GB) from my hard drive part seems to be broken. I can't activate the SSD feature in the Intel software or I am in big trouble, so I disabled it. However, I can still use my computer because the part of the HARD drive (500 GB) is ok and the system.

My question: is it possible to take all the drive of my computer and put a new SSD a place?

How is it? This is similar to a 2.5 HDD classic?

Would what kind of interface I find him inside? (Sata 3?)

Thank you

I don't know how old is your machine, but if the warranty is still valid I think you should contact Toshiba service and ask for replacement. Warranty will cover the costs.

In any case, this 32 GB SSD's with mSATA type slot multi-level (MLC) cell. On Google you can see what it looks like. Generally, replacement should not be problematic but if don't have experience with computer laptop disassembly you shouldn't do it alone.

Is that SSD is placed directly under the lid and place between RAM and WLAN card.

    Thank you

Before you remove anything from the HARD drive, I recommend the establishment of recovery disk.
The recovery disk allows you to set the system back to factory settings.
After these disks have been created, you can do whatever you want :)

How to replace the hard drive in this notebook?

    Hello

If I remember well HDD is under the optical media drive. Optical media drive is fixed with a screw that you see above the player. Remove the screw and remove the drive from the Bay.

HARD drive is fixed, I think, 4 screws (probably black). When the screws are removed you can use two fingers to remove the HDD from the connector plug. I hope you now know how to put the new HARD drive.

  • Configuration problem of Windows after replacement of HDD on Satellite C650

Just replaced 250 gig hdd on tosh c650 with a 500 GB hitachi hard drive, reinstalled windows 7 on a tosh disk recovery and get implemented windows could not configure windows to run on this computer material followed by windows could not complete the installation message.

Tried reloading windows two times, no joy. I'm not that computer savy if someone could help me sort or the disc is not compatible?
    Thank you

Usually, you should be able to use the recovery disk to install the Toshiba on another HDD image

But in my experience there is sometimes a problem using this recovery disk if the new HARD disk drive has a different storage size.

One of the reasons that could come from this format of HARD drive recovery disk and create new partitions. The defined recovery disk HARD drive to factory settings and creates the same partitions that were available on the old HDD.

If this is the reason for this problem, I advise to use the Microsoft Windows disk rather than the Toshiba recovery disc.

  • Replacement of HDD on Satellite L670D - 13H

    Hello

I plan to replace my internal with a new HD like mine has a lot of bad sector and this force reinstall me my system every two months (bad sectors seems to be located on the C partition where Windows system)

the current disc is a MK5065GSX, which is hard to find. This is why I would like to know what HD I could buy instead of this model that can be mounted in my laptop.

My main problem is I want to make sure that I can still use my recovery DVD with my new HD.

I saw the MK6465GSX is available for sale, but the size is slightly larger than my current one (640 GB instead of 500 GB). I need to buy HD with the same size as my only original so that the recovery work?

Thanks in advance for your answers

    > So I want to know what HD I could buy instead of this model that can be mounted in my laptop.

You n t need to buy exactly the same HARD disk that was built in the L670.
You can use the other HARD disk, but you should pay attention to the the HARD disk controller.
You need a SATA 2.5 HARD.

Given that the SATA controller must manage any size of HARD drive, you can also use a 640GO.

  • Replacing the screen satellite U840-10V

    Hi guys,.

My Satellite U840-10V hinge on the right side screen broke when I accidentally dropped the laptop. This happened almost 2 years ago and today he is out, which separates it from the window of the screen. I had this problem temporarily to a nearby repair shop and was advised to contact toshiba to replace the head of screen. my warranty expired in 2013 and I did not apply to it.

Can someone advise the best course of action to replace the screen? I live in ealing, London and am able to go to a provider of services close to who would be able to replace it. I like really this laptop and I would like to replace the screen as soon as possible instead of dishing out money on another new laptop.

    Kind regards

  • Satellite U840-10U - keyboard replacement

Does anyone know how to replace the keyboard of a satellite u840-u by myself? It seeks to be just stuck but do not know about you. In addition, my keyboard is not backlit, it would be replaced by one of the series U backlit?

    Hello

As far as I know some models of Satellite U840 was equipped with keyboard backlight.
But to my knowledge, the keyboard backlight requires extra power connector (CN20).

I guess not all U840 motherboards support this connector, and therefore the upgrade of the keyboard backlight is not possible.

With regard to the removal of the keyboard:
Yes I think the keyboard is stuck to the top box by double adhesive. If you would like to disassemble the keyboard in the top box, the keyboard deform and could not be used again.

In my opinion you should not try to remove anything. You could void the warranty and could damage other parts. I think that this procedure of disassembly must be carried out by an authorized technician.

  • Does not begin with satellite U840-110 - Windows 7 - loop start-up

    Hello

I have been using a Satellite U840 - 110 portable since dec 2012 on a Windows 7 Home Premium operating system. Recently, the laptop was left in standby for a few days. When I tried to start the computer, it froze at the start. So I forced reboot by pressing the power button. After repeating this for a couple of times, he first showed a blue screen. Then, when the computer has been restarted, he showed a black screen with the following message

    "Windows error recovery".
Windows could not start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.
    ...
    ...
Run the Startup Repair tool or
    Start windows normally'

I have tried both these options multiple times and every time at the end of the process, he might come back to these same screen. I also tried to press F8 and used advanced and tried Boot Options "not last know good configuration."

None of this seems to work and I was not able to load Windows. I don't have a backup of my data and can end up losing a lot of vital information.

Is there anyway I can solve the problem and get the computer to work again?

Is it possible to recover data from the hard drive.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Is it possible to recover data from the hard drive.

You can remove the laptop HARD drive and could connect to another computer using USB-to-SATA cart.

After that, you could insert the HARD disk into the laptop new and could try to perform the Toshiba HDD recovery.

  • Satellite U840 - new installation of Windows 7

My U840-113 had a hard drive failure, and I did not all backups of the system image.
I installed a new hard drive (no problem), but go crazy trying to get Windows 7 for reinstall.

    Here is what happened...
-Install Windows 7 (service Pack 1) via CD/DVD external, accidentally installed the 32-bit version. No problem, but as I started to go to find all the drivers on the Toshiba site, I noticed some 32-bit options were absent.
-Tried to install the 64-bit version - NOTE, my Windows 7 original release, so before service Pack 1)
-Initially I got error messages indicating that the CD/DVD drivers should continue. Really?
-After research, downloaded the drivers on a CD to use as needed. Did not get this message again because I moved the CD/DVD on another port USB (one who had already given this message!)
-Got if the whole installation, and I get a message "no compatible hardware. What?
-Tried once again, the same message.
-Deletion of the Raid on the SSD drive not... no more Raids on anything!
-Tried once again, the same message.

So I'm sure that this issue has to do with the Raid drivers.

What exactly is the 'trick' to do a fresh install of Windows 7 64 bit on this machine?

I'll see if I can get 64-bit Service Pack 1 (on USB!) to try for my next attempt.

I left the PC at work, while I wouldn't rest up all night trying to get this to work.

    Thank you!

I checked the specification for your laptop and it was delivered with preinstalled Win7 64-bit Home Premium so I recommend you to reinstall Win7 64-bit. It is fully supported and all the drivers, tools and utilities, you can find and download from the Toshiba download page - http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp
Please note that you need drivers for Satellite U840 PSU4SE.

Here, you can also download RAID driver to load before starting the installation of Win7. I imagine that without this driver drive HARD will not appear. Download and save to USB key.
Generally installing Win7 on this machine should not be a big deal. I did it on U940 without any problem.
When external ODD is connected start Notepad and press F12. Choose the CD/DVD as first boot device and confirm with the button enter. I assume you are using the original installation of the Microsoft Win7 disc, right?

Disc should be read and the installation should begin. When you see that the disc is not recognized SATA/RAID load driver and continue with the installation. Create the C partition and choose as location for the installation of the OS. I can't imagine that you will have some problems with it. On my machine, that it worked perfectly.

When Win7 is completely installed, you begin with the installation of drivers, tools and utilities. Stuf all install them as follows:
    Windows 7 SP1 of Win7
    Chipset SW installation utility
    Intel Management Engine Interface
    Intel driver
    AMD display driver
    Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver
    Synaptics Touch Pad Driver
    Intel USB3.0 driver
    IRSTCreator
    Alcor Micro Card Reader
Technology of quick start Software Intel
    Conexant Audio driver
    SRS Premium Sound
    LAN driver
    Wireless LAN driver
    Filter driver package Realtek Bluetooth
    Intel Wireless Display
    Bluetooth monitor
Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba
    TOSHIBA Value Added Package
    TOSHIBA Web Camera Application

    Hello

The Satellite L875D-10R supports 7640 G AMD Radeon HD internal graphic unit. This GPU is part of the processor AMD Quad-Core A8 - 4500M.

Graphics memory depends on main memory. A part of the main memory would be assigned to graphics memory. In the case of 8 GB RAM main GPU can use up to 4083 MB by using the 64-bit system.
