Replacing a hard drive in a R4 Aurora with a RAID 10 configuration

I'd love to have someone check what I think I know:

one of my four 1 TB Seagate HD is a failure and I want to replace it (a WD 1 TB comes today).  From what I've been able to gather from Internet research, it seems that it is as simple as a hot swap (machine on, unplug/remove the old drive, install the new drive, RAID rebuilds itself).

Could someone with a lot more knowledge than me check that, especially if there is a 'trick' or 'don't do that' involved.

Thank you!

It's really not something too difficult to do. As you said yourself - this is just a plug-and-play scenario.
Hard drives, because they are in RAID 1 + 0 it will rebuild and reproduce what is the main parameter.
But if you want here is a video on how to take out the hard drive and replace it.

  • no boot device after replacing the hard drive

    Hello world!

My laptop (MSI) has erupted recently in my face (Fried GPU seems).  As I had and liked (Acer laptop) which had a broken hard drive, I have supported up to my datas and replaced the hard drive of Acer (one broken) with that of my MSI (latest laptop)

When I start the computer I get the message no bootable device: "no boot device - insert boot disk and press any key any."

I am not very savvy computer science, but I feel that it is perhaps due to the version of Windows I was using: my Acer running on Windows 7, when my MSI will run on window 8.  Could someone confirm if this has something to do with the startup problem?

Here's what I managed to do or find on the problem.

When I go into the BIOS, I changed the order of precedence so that my hard drive is the first priority.

There is absolutely no USB or SD card in my computer from where he might try to start (unless he's trying to start from an empty?).

The BIOS is able to tell me the model and I installed the hard disk MSI series so I guess that it is able to detect the hard drive, but can not find startup data in it (that's why I think it's maybe because it isn't the same window).  In addition, the hard drive lights up when I start the computer (and he did it on the MSI laptop too).

Even if the hard drive seems to be detected, I always tried to unplug and reconnect it a few times to make sure it wasn't just a matter of bad connection.

On many web sites, they recommend taking any diet and empty any current computer before restarting: unfortunately I can not do because the Acer laptop has a battery that is not easily accessible as newer computer (it cannot be removed from the outside, I need to open the laptop to get it and it is so I can know what it look like and how to remove it)

My brother managed to recover data from hard disk of MSI with a USB device that plugs on it, so I don't think it's broken.

The computer is an Acer Aspire 5830TG.  Replaced hard drive is a toshiba MK6459GSXP (works on Windows 7) and the replacement is a WD7500BPVX - 22JC3T0

I want to apologize if my English contains errors, it is not my mother tongue :)

Please let me know if you need more information and I thank you for your help!

    Hello

You cannot move a hard drive with Windows 8 on it from a computer and put it in another machine that were previously running Windows 7 and expect it to work.

    It will not.

    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

And even if it would work physically, legally you cannot transfer the license of Windows 8 of the MSI laptop Acer laptop to your situation:

    Read this information:

If the laptop came with the preinstalled Windows operating system (Dell, HP, Acer, etc.), this product key supplied with the laptop is preinstalled OEM license and is not transferable.

OEM license/product key (systems of operating pre-installed on Dell, HP, etc.) is related to the first machine it is installed on and dies when dies of this machine.

The above applies also to OEM system builders licenses.

License of operating system in detail, that you buy and install yourself, are allowed to be transferred to another machine.

And retail licenses also can be installed on a machine at one time.

  • Is it possible to replace the hard drive with an SSD? or would it be too expensive?

Is it possible to replace the hard drive with an SSD?

or would it be too expensive?

Yes.  There are several alternatives.  I found a way relatively inexpensive, using a map of mSATA (very small SSD) and an adapter to connect it to the connector IDE 44 pin internal of my PowerBook.  It works very well.  Rather than repeat what I posted previously, you can watch these two topics (which also has good info, other users)

FYI - I have used the adapter is even cheaper now

  • Replace the HARD drive in mid-2012 MBP of SSD?

Given to replace my HARD drive of 1 TB in MBP mid-2012.  This MBP has already been customized (by Apple) to 2.9 GHz i7 8 GB mem.

I'm looking for a solution at least to 1 TB also. How about this:

Samsung 850 EVO 1 TB 2.5 inch SATA III internal SSD (MZ-75E1T0B/AM)

IS it really that simple, as suggested by some video: current copy to SSD connected externally, than to go ahead with replacement? Then you can continue normal OSX updates as usual?

    Is it really worth?

Yes, I do some "prosumer" video (FCP) and audio (Logic, Cubase, Pro Tools) - and use external USB 3 HARD drive.

Yes, it was worth it. The difference between day and night.

It's easy. How to create a clone of startup

I don't know Samsung but 2.5 "is inside that you need, SATA III Yes.

but another highly recommended option is https://eshop.macsales.com/shop/SSD/OWC/lineup

    MacBook Pro (15-inch mid-2012), OS X El Capitan (10.11.6), i7 480 GB SSD 16 GB RAM iPhone5 iOS10.0.1, Parallels10.0.2, HP OfficeJet Pro 8620

    Hello

Recently, I replaced the hard drive on my mac.  Already before the replacement, I got the files that I had locked.  Now I'm unable to open the file.  I get the error "the folder 'nom_de_dossier' can not be opened because you don't have permission to see its content".  I looked at the permissions for the folder and everything he says is fetch.  I ran a command in the Terminal and for one of the records in question, that's what I see-

    drwxr-x - 13 501 501 442 5 July 2013 MG

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Running OS X El Capitan

    10.11.4 version

    Try this first:

Start the mac all holding the SHIFT key, it is slow, connection, and then select Restart from the Apple menu.

    When this does not help:

Reset password utility in the recovery Partition:

    1. Restart your computer from the recovery partition.
    2. Open disk utility and run a repair permissions on your boot volume (in ElCapitan click the first aid tab). Once this completed, close disk utility. We do this for good measure.
    3. Open a Terminal from the Utilities menu. Type in resetpassword and select your user (NOT administrator system/root) account in the menu drop-down.
    4. Click on the Reset button at the bottom of the window ACL section and Reset the folder permissions.
    5. Exit the utility password and return to the main recovery menu.
    6. On your keyboard, press + Q and restart your computer. It is very important that you don't hold down the power button to exit the recovery session, or the ACL Reset to occur.

  • Replacing the hard drive on my Portege A200

Hi, I would like to replace the hard drive in my a200 with a bigger, but I don't know how to remove the current, just wondering if any of you guys could help me?

    Thank you james

    Hello James

Unfortunately the A200 does not for me, but the concept is still the same. At first check if you can find coverage of HARD drive in the lower corner of your unit. If you can't find it from the outside as it comes to the very complicated situation. It is possible that the HARD drive is under the keyboard.

If you have not many don't experience do it alone, because you can damage something, and the guarantee is no longer valid.

    Good luck!

I want to replace the 60 GB hard drive in my P10 804 with a unit of 100 GB.

Can Q2 - someone point me to documentation showing how physically replace the drive?

    Hi Roy,

as far as I know, Toshiba offers no information on dismantling mashines, because you lose your warranty if you do this.

To upgrade your HARD drive, you must go to a Toshiba Service partner.

    You can find under:

  • Satellite M110 - how to replace the HARD drive?

Need to replace my hard drive because the original is f & % $ ed.

I tried to connect the original hard drive from my other laptop via a USB cable to Sata, but it does not appear. You can feel it spinning. I was able to do a test of HARD drive on it and it failed in the Toshiba via a bootable CD. Since I can access the drive HARD to get to the recovery section, which is the best way to reinstall windows XP on it, so I can use the original XP key on the bottom of the laptop. As I know that you usually have the right version or OEM windows copy in order to use certain keys.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Would also be a Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD1600 8 MB 160 GB 2.5 "SATA Hard Drive fit for the Toshiba because they are all two SATA.

    Hello

Your ad is a little confusing... What HARD drive you use in what book now?

If you want to install the OS on your old/new HARD drive, so you can use t a converter USB SATA. Therefore, use it as internal drive HARD.

In addition, a HARD of Western Digital drive would be appropriate due SATA port. :)

  • Re: Equium A100 - 2 L - the search for the replacement of HARD drive

I inherited an Equium A100 - 2L (PSAAQE) of my brother, but he kept the hard drive damaged in the hope of saving its data on it. Can anyone recommend a hard drive replacement, and I need one any attachment or additional connector?
Looking at various Web sites, I'm puzzled by this disc to buy regarding dimensions (SFF, 1/8 H etc.)

    Thank you

    Hey Buddy,

No, you need a t n pregnant additional or connector. The caddy HARD drive you need you can use old HARD drive and the connector is soldered to the motherboard. So when you replace the HARD drive, you need only one new, what s.

Equium A100 has already SATA interface that means you buy a HARD drive with SATA interface, but it of not important if she s SATA1 or SATA2 interface because the two standards will work (SATA2 is compatible downgrade to SATA1).

So just buy a * 2.5 HARD drive with SATA interface *. Also there is no capacity limit, 500GB or more should work and manufacturing is also independent.
Just look at some online stores and buy a HARD drive with good price / performance. :)

Replace old hard drive with an SSD.  Now some of the keys on the keyboard stopped working.  Ex 'e' and 'b' keys no longer work?  Any idea what could take place in the disc replacement?

Probably nothing, it's probably a fluke. Try resetting the SMC and the PRAM by iMac Intel SCM and reset the PRAM. If this does not work, try a USB keyboard to test, if it works then your original keyboard has failed and must be replaced.
