request help to validate the SAN/network configuration

Hello, I am a new Member of the Forum, but I have worked with ESX for awhile and I do as much reading/study that I can.

I'll put up a new SAN HP MSA 2012i and 2 guests VMware Enterprise to use the San.

SAN block size is 64, and I know configure vmdk in VC/VIC, which should make the VMs' offset 64 and therefore correctly align the VMs. 99% Windows Server VM.

Our SAN has 2 controllers and disks configured as 1 vdisk that will be divided into multiple LUNS.

management by controller 1 port

2 ports for iSCSI on each controller.

All are assigned static IP to the bosom of our subnet 172.16.0.xxx so they can all talk to the HP Procurve 2824 switch and therefore the hosts to be may eventually connect to the iSCSI LUN.

My questions:

1 should I configure VLAN on the switch of the management controller ports Ethernet iSCSI SAN?

2 within the ESX, for his vSwitches, for the Service Console and vKernel, I use different subnets? (for example 172.16.1.xxx for the Service Console and 172.16.2.xxxx to vKernel, etc..) ??

Or I have to put the vSwitches in the same subnet 172.16.0.xxx?

3. I know that I create the LUN in the MSA web console and then I point Virtual Center and hosts see LUNS. Can someone refer me to anything that can explain this in more detail?

Thank you!!

As they say fast, good and cheap, pick two. It's just a fact of the business. We often work with the material we have and do the best we can.

Go with 3 VLAN

1 for the management of virtual machines and any other non-virtuelle 172.16.0.0/24. Use 2 of your network adapters ESX hosts so that it has resume function.

2 storage VLAN 1 172.16.1.0/24 1 Teddy

3 storage VLAN 2 172.16.2.0/24 1 Teddy

This configuration enables redundancy for storage and networks VM/SC, with the hardware you already have.

You can still develop the latter if you get the funds.

  • How can I remove the HP Network Configuration utility

I am P2Ving some HP machines and reading the posts here on how to remove most of the HP components, but I'm stuck on how to get rid of the HP Network Configuration utility program that puts the HP Network icon in the system tray.  There is a post of Guillermo Musumeci in 2007 that said using this command:

    SNetCfg.exe - v u cq_cpqteam

to do it, but I can not find snetcfg.exe on this server.

There is also a post of Jasemccarty in 2007 that said this keymay be the key to remove:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network\

    {4D36E975-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\{FD0FF0D6-4876-4894-9274-258564E35C07}

But this key does not appear in the registry on that server.  Anyone has any ideas on how to remove the last piece of a P2V-centric software HP had VM?

Anyone know why HP makes breath difficult to remove their drivers and other components?

    Thank you

    Dan

Open the properties of your network card (either will do)

Go - properties and click the HP tool and select "Uninstall".

See also http://ctxadmtools.musumeci.com.ar/HPPSPCleaner/HPPSPCleanerDownload.html for a tool to strip all HP components for you - I use it regularly after P2Vs.

  • books on the oracle network configuration?

    Salvation;

I'm looking for books about the oracle network configuration details. I tried oracle press, O'Reillys, Amazon and google; However, I only found books specific to oracle net that bear a date entirely. It seems that General database management books have chapters on the configuration of the network, however.

At the configuration of the network under oracle 10 g + arrived at the point where the comprehensive books on the subject are not worth the cost?

I was hoping to find information on the syntax of different files, which can go in the and how to solve problems of connectivity - preferably in a place so much when I'm faced with a problem, I don't have to go hunting for more information. This and he is studying a whole lot easier.

    Any info is greatly appreciated.

  • HA installation failure due to a misconfiguration in the host network configuration?

We have no setup problem on a cluster HA containing 2 ESX 4.0 host. However, after adding a host ESXi 4.1 and configuration HA to contain all 3 hosts, HA shows failure due to a misconfiguration in the network configuration for the ESXi 4.1 host host.

Remembering this bad spell names network could cause a failure of HA configuration, we proceed to rename network management Service Console host ESXi 4.1 in order to match the network management of the ESX 4.0. However, this does not.

ESX and ESXi are able to mix in a HA cluster in the first place? Any advise?

    Hello

Yes, you can mix ESXi and ESX on this same cluster

    1. Check your DNS - should resolve to long and short names of all nodes in a cluster that you
    2. are the new ESXi in the same IP subnet as the older ESX servers?
    3. try to disable and enable HA
    4. Check below link

    Good luck

It takes longer for HA NIC card? But, on the procedure for creating HA, not this requirements.

Looking at your screenshots I would suggest that you create the second and third vSwitch with 192 and 172 port groups that exist on the other host.

  • Requested help recovering from the change that I did for the 'Public' of Vista Home Premium file permissions for everyone

I made a blunder when changing the permissions of public folders for everyone.  I am now connected to Vista Home Premium on my home PC as an Admin will be complete permissiongs.  When I right click on the folder Public, pooling and property options are both now gone.  How to restore the availability of these options?  Also, I can access to is no longer the files that I previously copied into the Public folder.  How can I restore my access to these files?

Have you started with elevated privileges command prompt? Just running in the administrator account is not enough. Looks like you don't have because it starts in your user directory. If you were high would begin in the Windows\System32 directory.

    See: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Command-Prompt-frequently-asked-questions

Orders, you should get something like this:

    Takeown /f /a C:\Users\Public
    ICACLS C:\Users\Public/Grant "BUILTIN\Users: (F)".
    ICACLS C:\Users\Public/Grant "Administrators: (F)".
    Takeown /f C:\Users\Public\*/a
    ICACLS C:\Users\Public\*.*/Grant "BUILTIN\Users: (F)".
    ICACLS C:\Users\Public\*.*/Grant "Administrators: (F)".

I can't guarantee that this will fix your system. You must give permissions for the system and other users accounts.  If you have access to another system, I would compare the settings there. These programs will help you determine the permissions associated with a system

  • Need help to access the internal network via VPN on ASA5505 8.4 (1)

Recently, I upgraded my ASA5055 from 8.02 to 8.4 and since I have updated to the new version I can access my home network is no longer through the VPN. I can connect to the VPN with no problems however I can no longer ping or you connect to my network of 10.0. Someone would be kind enough to look at my config and tell me what needs to be added to make it work? In my old config, I had a statement of NAT for VPN that is no longer here.

I also wanted to configure WebVPN to work as well, and this is something that I've never been able to understand. Is it also possible that I can be on my 20.0 network and connect to the VPN and access 10.0 as well? When it is connected to my network of 20.0 I'm not received credentials to connect to the VPN. I would be grateful if someone can help out me. The major part of this is the first part of this question.

  • Question about the nonstandard network configuration

I'm trying to debug the problem following the configuration of the virtual switch.

On a vswitch on a host ESX 3.5 with two physical network cards (vmnic0 and vmnic2), there are two groups of ports both with no vlan (i.e., the VLANs set to 0 in the configuration of portgroup).

Two of these groups of ports use two physical NICs in active-active mode.

The only difference is that on one of them, call it portgroup pg1, load balancing algorithm is mac hash and "Promiscuous" mode is turned on, and

Another is to use charge balncing alg based on the port with promisicuous off mode id; Call this portgroup pg2

A dozen of VMs attached to pg2 are all able to get a DHCP lease; However, if I set one of these virtual machines to fix instead of pg1, it is impossible to obtain a dhcp lease

It is guess I have this problem can be the physical switch is misconfigured in that the switch ports that attach to vmnic0 and vmic2 are incompatible configured. Howerver, the fact that all 10 VMS access and statistically some would use the vmnic0 and other vmnic2 fit not quite this.

I realize, there is incompatibility between the hash of the IP and the other nic teaming algorithms, but do not see how change of identification of the port to mac hash would whatever it is outside of the algorithm of the virtual machine uses in chossing between vmic0 and vmic2

Since it will be difficult to get access to the network switches that I would have pragamtically some alternatives ready before speaking to the team concerned. All of the suggestions.

    Thank you

    Rich

    Hello

Promicuous mode should have no impact on this. If so, I would be very very surprised. In fact in a vSwitch is the vNIC not the bear who switches to "Promiscuous" mode, so there should be no impact on the bear. The bear is actually in bridged mode.

Also, remember to score the answers as correct or helpful using the boxes on the left side of the wire screen. It is a good way to show appreciation to other posters.

  • Check the required Network Configuration...

    Hello

I want to know what would happen if I finish the installation to the end this stage fails?

    Thank you

You can use Oracle Net Configuration Assistant after installation to complete the installation of network for your database. Without it, customers will not be able to connect to the database. However, you should be able to connect to the database to an account of an operating system on the same server as the database instance.

  • The administrative network configuration

    Hello
Oracle configuration worksheets suggest two options under table 5: Configuration management network card:

Select which network is used for the database server host name. The options are:
    network admin
    or
    client network.

    (1) regarding the best practices which network should I choose?
    (2) if I choose "network admin", is that it means that I won't be able to run the exadata/cluster/basic data directly from the host of the database?

    Thank you

To Exadata compute nodes have multiple internal host names. If your Exadata called dm01, the host name of the network admin (management) would be dm01db01, while the host name of the client would be dm0101. The question you are asking about is what hostname will be the host name "primary" for the compute nodes. It was that it was always the host name of the network admin, but now they offer a choice. I prefer to keep with the network admin, so there is consistency in the whole of the grid (there is no client network on storage servers).

Hello, I have a Dell Inspiron 530 running Windows Vista Home Edition. I'm trying to access the system BIOS and there a red enter password screen. I tried to guess and enter the passwords with the word DELL in several newspapers and none of them worked. I didn't go into too many wrong passwords because I didn't know if the system would lock me up. Can someone help me the BIOS password connect password or disable it some how? Thank you in advance.

    Hi WILSPEAK,

Please write to the Dell Community Forum.

Ask to contact the team of Dell for the BIOS via DellTechCenter password in Facebook or @on Twitter DellCaresPRO and they will be able to provide you with a BIOS password once the property of the system is confirmed.

  • the change network configuration, now what?

    Hello

I had a great Setup and everything was moving along smoothly.  decided to do?  I decided to make a major change to the architecture of network. and now everything is broken.  Well not everything but my vms that are sitting on my Berry to emc celerra storage is no longer accessible.

We previously had a stack of core switches. in order to introduce another layer of reduandancy, we decided to split the nucleus in two basic switches separate battery.  After all, except on my celerra virtual machines are still humming. I can't put my finger on what may be the cause.  Ive checked the physical connectivity is not a problem, as have run pings and that all withdrew.  If anyone can provide insight that it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

You need to give more information... What is broken?

If ping and vmkping works seems strange that nothing works.

  • 114 the desire does not connect to Asus all-in-one wireless but connects to the wireless network

I just bought my HP ENVY 114 e all-in-one last week and I tried to connect it to my computer (Asus all-in-one Windows 7 64-bit) and while he wil connect to my wireless very well my computer (or my cell phone which is also an Asus running windows 7 64 - bits) cannot identify it.

Using the disc doesn't help nor did try manually to add in 'Add printer' in my computer and all the interest to get this particular printer was because it was wireless. If I have to plug in a USB key then I have saved money and bought a less expensive model. All my devices are on the same network, and their firewalls is turned off so that it does not hinder the process.

When you browse the drive Assembly he asks the IP and I get it exactly as it is on the screen printer that I even printed it out and double checked 5 times and it was exactly the same, but he keeps asking for me to be reintroduced to it since the computer cannot identify the printer.

Any help would be great I prefer not to have to pack up this thing and take it back...

Unfortunately, the router and the printer do not get along at this stage.  The IP address changes too often and it is possible that the router has its own firewall.  A large number of firewalls, outside the Windows Firewall, sees a lot of traffic from hpnetworkcommunicator.exe and blocks preventing the software to find the printer.

I saw this model of router and it doesn't have a built-in firewall.  Unfortunately, I could not see their manual without you register on the site.

It may be preferable to set a static IP address for the printer in the router's routing table.  To do this, you acceding to EWS the router.  If you don't know how to set the printer's IP address in the router, you can try to contact the vendor of the router.

Otherwise, I would recommend checking the firewall of the router.  I saw a router cause problems with an overactive firewall in place.

If you happen to have an extra router around, you can try to use it instead of Paul's to confirm that it is the router.

    EDIT

You can try to put a static IP address on the front of the printer.  I'm personally not too successful with setting a static IP address on the front panel when the SAP does not load, but this could be one of those cases where it does not.

First, print a Network Setup page by going to Configuration > Wireless > Network Configuration > print Network Configuration.

Then, go to settings > network > IP settings > change to the manual.

Once it is replaced by the manual, it should allow the IP address, default gateway and the subnet mask.  Use the subnet mask and default gateway of the print network configuration.  Use an IP address that is not in use on the network.  You can change the last number of the IP address on the print.  For example, 192.168.1.50 could be converted to 192.168.1.250.

Setting a static IP address on the front panel does not set servers DNS which is necessary for ePrint operate on this printer.  Now that the static IP address has been set on the front panel of the printer, try to access the SAP by entering the IP address that comes to be defined in a browser address bar.  If the printer load, you should be able to set DNS servers and be ready to go from there.

  • Second NETWORK card takes over the management network

I have a lab of dev ESXI 5.5 on a Dell PowerEdge 2950 with a dual port GbE NIC (Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM5708).

My basic configuration was a port of configured NIC (vmnic0) with a switch (vSwitch0) Standard.  vSwitch0 was a group of Virtual Machine (for VMS) ports and a VMkernel Port (for the management network).  Everything worked well at this point.

When I try to configure the second NIC (vmnic1) to a different network switch port and different to connect to iSCSI, network range vmnic1 took over the management network even if it does not show as being the management network.  After that, I'm more able to connect or ping the IP of vmnic0.

When you configure the vmnic1, I added connection Type of VMkernel.  I did not choose to use the port for traffic management group.

When I look at the console and choose to configure the management network I see only being vmnic0selected network adapter.

Am I misunderstood the management network configuration?  If not, does anyone have a suggestion on what may be wrong or how I can diagnose?

    Thank you for your comments!

    -Sean

I think I knew what was going on.

I had my VMkernel for networking (192.168.2.0/24) in a different subnet to the VMkernel for iscsi link port (192.168.1.0/24).  The problem was due to the existence of a network trace unidirectional from 192.168.1.0/24 to 192.168.2.0/24 (but not in the opposite direction). As stated in the post of the blog below and elsewhere, if there are two VMkernels in networks with a direct route, the esxi host will be simply choose one of the VMkernels to act as the management network (no matter if only one of the VMkernels has active network management).

I thought my networks did not have a direct route because of the impossibility (192.168.2.0/24) management network to communicate with the network of liaison port iscsi (192.168.1.0/24) but because the 192.168.1.0/24 network may route to 192.168.2.0/24, he made the two viable VMKernels to act as the point of view of the host management networks.

After that I moved the post iscsi binding to a switch with no network route, my problem has been resolved.

Re-reading the following is a blog post that helped me to understand my problem.

Thanks to those who took the time to review and respond to my problem.
