VMware VDI vs VMware View Horizon?
Hi all
This should be easy for you, the gurus of VMware
I have a requirement to expand a network of a single
location central out for a large company and I am looking to use Thin
Customers in the new corporate reach in a VMware VDI environment offices
in the center of data centralized where we already have a full blown 5 of Vsphere
environment for our servers.I was originally looking for VMware VDI via VDA (http://download3.vmware.com/demos/vdi/)
and was sold on the idea that it would be a good choice given the WAN
traffic to the Thin Client workstations based on RDP/PCoIP and so
not particularly heavy. However since then looked back to VMWare View and this
seeks to do the same thing that the VDI put in place and seems to have much more
information about this.I first thought that VMware View Horizon set caching of desktop
locally (as for a profile of the end user on the WAN) has no sound
too good to the traffic congestion, etc. so I rejected directly at the exit! Can someone tell me if the VDI via the VDA solution has been replaced
VMware View Horizon? And if so point me a definitive guide for VMware ViewThanks in advance
David
Network humble himself in VMware engineer!
The link in your feed was on VDM 2.0 which was the first iteration of VMware VDI market. The most recent is VMware view Horizon which can be found here, Horizon of VMware View (formerly VMware View) (VDI) Virtual Desktop Manager | United States of America. There is a lot of information on this page that you can see and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to post them in this forum.

Requires ESX VMware view?
Hey guys,.
This may be a very stupid question, but do you need ESX(I) to run VMware View?
I guess you need to create a cluster of some sort to host virtual offices and
I wonder if ESX (i) comes into play at all. Try to determine the future needs of license here.See you soon
Yes, VMware view must either ESX or ESX (i) to install and also a Virtual Center to be configured and cluster to build with the ESX hosts, added to the cluster.
With regard to the requirement for Vmware View 4.5 Lincense
VMware View is always available in editions company and first and can be purchased as a package or as an add-on for those who have existing vSphere licenses to a separate purchase (which is not part of a set of view). With view 4.5, customers have a way to upgrade available to view Enterprise and View first modules to complete sets. Key updates include:
- See Business Starter Kit and View Prime Starter Kit now includes VMware vCenter Standard for desktop computers (updated VMware vCenter Foundation for desktop computers).
- View first beams, View first add-ons and View first upgrades include now the two new components introduced with view 4.5: vShield Endpoint and View Client with Local Mode(formerly known as Offline Desktop)
You can get more information about the licenses and prices here

WEBVPN ASA 9.1 + VMWARE VDI
Hi all
in Cisco ASDM 7.1 (1), webvpn configuration, it is possible to set up bookmarks with "vdi: / /" links to Citrix or Vmware Virtual Desktop infrastructure, but we could not find any resource configuration (conf guide) on the official website of Cisco: do someone know if it is possible to integrate Vmware View Client ASA 9.1 WebVpn solution?
Thank you
Hi Flavio,
as far as I know, this only usable for Citrix Receiver Mobile right now.
CFR:

Maybe VMware View will be supported in a future release - I suggest that you check with your sales of Cisco.

View VMware 5.2: Certificate problem new issuance
Hello
I was trying to create a new certificate in my lab Vmware view, but without success.
I got to the following problems:
----------------------------------------------
keytool - genkey - keyalg "RSA" - keystore keys.p12 - pkcs12-validity 360 - storepass xxx stores
What is the name of your organizational unit? XX
What is the name of your organization: xxx
What is the name of your city or locality: xx
What is the code for this device-two letter country? : xx
keytool - certreq - keyalg "RSA" - folder - certificate.csr keys.p12 stores - pkcs12 keystore - storepass secret
Certreq-submit attrib - "certificatetemplate:WebServer" c:\certificate.csr (on the domain controller)
Certutil-dspublish - f certificate.cer (on the domain controller)
keytool-import - stores - keys.p12 pkcs12 keystore - storepass secret - keyalg 'RSA' - trustcacerts - file certificate.p7b
Locked.Properties (file SSLgateway file...)
keyfile = Keys.P12
KeyPass = secret
shops = pkcs12
---------------------------------------------
I tried to import the certificate into the GPO and the display folder.
Restarted the server, without success.
In a guide, he mentions that a self-signed certificate VDM is located in the SSLgateway folder on the login server, but I do not have.
My test clients can connect to several different pool with self-signed certificate warnings.
What happens here?
wrong answers to the questions keytool? they are entirely dependent on the appropriate ORGANIZATIONAL unit?
The web interface for the administration console Vmware View certificate is not working either.
The steps you are using are correct to view 5.0 and below, from 5.1 view, we went with the Windows certificate store. Follow the new documentation from the outset either import the p12 file you've already created in Windows. The latter can be done by following the steps below:
1 mmc, open the Certificates snap-in for the local computer account
2. under Personnel\Certificats, right-click and select Import
3. Select the .p12 file you created
4. Enter the required password, make sure that the check box the key is exportable is selected
5. right click on the new certificate, change its properties, and add the friendly name "vdm".
6. remove the friendly name of the self-signed certificate generated or remove it completely
7 delete locked.properties lines you had before
8 restart the service

Hi, we use vmware view 3.0 for desktop virtualization. We put the data user disk size to 128 MB. everything worked very well today, we are faced with a problem, it's this vdm newspaper create the user profile. to the document and setting \all user\application Application Data VMware \vdm\logs.
every now and then on their vdi low disk space error user. and when we go to this place of \vdm\logs then we had newspapers of the day a lot of size 10 MB notapad file.then must manually remove the logs...
y at - there any option or featuire through which we can truncate thease newspapers so that they cannot be more then 10 MB or more.
The maximum size per file, you will need to set a maximum number of debug files too (default is 10).

Requirement of band VDI Desktop network bandwidth
What is the minimum bandwidth required by a desktop view to be launched via LAN.
Maybe you mean on WAN (not LAN).
It depends by the demands of the RDP.

I'm using VMware Fusion 8.0.0 (2985594) on Mac OS Yosemite (10.10.5 (14F27)) and I have a Linux VM with Debian Wheezy (3.2.0 - 4-amd64) and PHP (5.4.41 - 0 + deb7u1).
After I've upgraded from VMware Fusion 7 WMware Fusion 8, the (open source CMS) Typo3 on my development machine began to throw PHP syntax errors during playback of its cache files. As I investigated the problem I found that the behavior is reproducible, but only when the files are written to the folder that is shared between the host system and the VM.
When I'm demanding a PHP a certain file size and a certain name of file, PHP seems to continue reading about the end of the file in the middle of the arbitrariness of other files. This leads mainly to errors in syntax PHP - but according to the name of the file that they differ, for example:
PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '' in require284.php on line 93 PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '' in require107.php on line 88 ^[[APHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected 'p' in require472.php on line 88 PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected end of file in require884.php on line 88 PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected 'u' in require185.php on line 89
All of these errors are generated by requiring the same content with different file names. If I am demanding the same file with the same name, the PHP error is also the same.
Steps to reproduce
I wrote a PHP script that seeks a different file names for a given text, until it crashes. Store this file in the shared folder and run it with php f. As you can see, all the content of the file is commented out, so it shouldn't affect anything.
<?php $content = <<<'EOT' <?php /*njsRtWyvEHREGDwjZEIuuwOCJidhxoMo lsdTFPMPhCnHYdjylYmAlJtOrNQRZRzFDQsX QAYugjeSRojQLImGMsGzvsNxSdbvIUZbHvVuXfDTJqyXxjbiNoMgiQGVlREJPPacTIbn emIhHyATFwSAHnoTRVtUppVVRoWHDAjMvkoADVBCTJFNT aCUTsQsZbIhyaQoSCWcpuhgPcoWBD bXzAuYZueusNALsxIYTpkaHGGwmLkdkEPsQRSyPojOhCTUksYnAdlr rDfHEzqctbHpFBQkUTOWgYsYKwBzguuNxktJDitUkSDLABoDjYlrQzmtBxRU TRZqbDEgTEGqpFAXbCADhmwVltDJGqvsasypalIThuzA VDJkyuQAQYJoiTyuoMtjeoXtZMVZKhWxWGbChTZjVWcNX ANAKXbsERdugbcApTEjabtRSBvMAjreOdSbCyqBikXMADmzTyIijEwBYhWXzEIQHVn LkasQDaUvNBNJghMrpNBBnqqLaUsoxqjDoGUoQjG uMQEbeYxRcQSICioqjMOLMZZhUbFTOOLdsGHrVSlk IxnyGZMFpCNRqFBOYSbSbyzqhzZyjrkUzjEPXSoZNnbnNsdHVdUKosgpVCDSakQjEgNmUM vmusESUYiXPKKqvPfVghfqmTniFjPUorDvEpGGvRaKln vrQGhLncjvcGQRBWVGKQQVDfbCPRYrJkUTvLpWfIQscGq eaZkNjlIfWCYaWMIHPjUkQNYtEdoJbTCYbHqmQYnaIEsVrYXiqibBWrZIFdcyGdCqLRaW KjYicadGOioWoiYJrrfUjdTwKhNnhppkjhXZdUmWMxfiqetHCVvZfrKieR yhRbxbgbeORKMVxFmLmTexQhALUTNkOGhjaESxabCZSbcMlNLhz QnRzjUstpUDJpAcRLSjpPGSwaPKaVqdXrlXsHRtCFpbaEhocTxUAgPKwFvTskukCbCItNS vSDsuvlhCtMwYLOQRaJkSfbCaSlUsKZLVnuESjFwiAuJvIumSiCAHYBjpOFWvS pPRnkwaQCgYUtrHujVaEvxQ NtmJNjkSoCTvMzLXvmDBnymC pddMGqTojVadloHtRkipEFiZrWIsCXaqdayQWzynSiXtBIjesEguDtIfmd ZmkZrfNbXmtaUiOBvVvKmFaHePX CVCGMVGYjzjXyELANgIyAcsjfvdaGdDEttAofjawnondQuScwBUrAUdYxxerNG llGfZwYymZrykyajgjRGkDMpREVsybITgbTlgfhJUWJgGAtEM yskdfRkKDBaSfgSgLpKgQBmHybHxo EMlIkmGTopRdwcNxzLZigZxhakIcdGtlXVrEyPEgrxzG wxEFZcpSvgNUsiEVKZsdWGnSFiypJLvRnBUPGNa crmUUXjOENCuxstveIQFfhZYLmUljXEMIkH pBpmdMAMuBmTWlYZHOgxnPxQeHpMnTDnQRTmBRpoSRHZABhiQO qGksOOcpPKfcKhpdQVDvOcUzjsHIrIUSndRreDHdMtxmorrfaUyNmvuS uzQQlEcZXpaILAbCXblyXNQxARvGcRSyXDdAwZuBACpQJkZZNBJSkf ptcApSlflVBLBxGGtQLBWgoLciHHZsgixDFWqejANmDqiVWhGwQzQKpcNPH KIWUpmzHnUVBNBJCxaQKsy lRQCfqSWaiqkpyKmodooVOlEcmiUfElZhoDwhWnivqeEqWOEEJRRlbAPdlAJioAXBZpTXc pUzpJRxevfDotRbgqCtdzqIXrCahDDnLqymyREXzAvmMniQghmwbMIdnprCsdpxtsvGplq ArYJDZfLGhQVEyzwnPyavPgdvbpIKQyTCwgjiZuQUPQumlcKllkDRfErLLqyNGrLMHBpzY biPHNtPYGjrYztLOYhaoPmyVahPtiojqptGVQwbKmrFiqNfSv nnHyvOuEgLWZxCfrfmAbCspFUYMugmGZZlXFMSYfUlOQxcsOxpSUOEfvI ztnBZJKMbEoQZfRzbnQkUXC kXEEPviTpYGNrikuJbkfXSyALJmFIzmVamWouZqAwGanZFCSiN AVUDwCPZWUJNIrmUwpaoSWTGKmtkev uaKSTGLYHTvKAFQRFnMbCBEJQbpgrxOUYTTLGExcQokfKVmEhaCjK xBqwGyJyqvscyLMQlsgzfXnIKUZZZfNwsu IVwNskHoJTBrRMtKTaxcgoKyUEVONWywwxKbCMMqcw aryEooyClPfmWeLRdMGcIDUhWKMztUQrsQmKwTVVXUOxZnMwxr PuKuPRLLYsvbvUUIXNVSkdITWLTOmCQrbFEArsfwpTIQYmRNPDLvJheP HFSyzYzvuVUQHsahuUQqiPBaDEYJuiySqZfVYPqsaKEm aNsbVyGFRpNREYAcFoFLbCNRa jQfdxcrOqGHQkcuqGxTMHoGSgAmVAxpPMmhtwRUCKshdXLNnggmuOhgbClYbUzmiBwQ UOcNuUNpmEJwDHGpQLEHzIrFlJlEJALIhQyEpYgcVzsmHIffBBpbhnidaK SIjqXPyiGTTCUSCZdqZcXOUVCGgAZZuzgpVpjVYkRArhZgHNc pbjeIcbCtYZKhvCdxRSVloKVDGXLYqnbjBJZtieEGYprYWtDRH pDIELcriTtSXVsTnHBboDfxHJemyOwmPqCDjJjdFsm wUKVYearKMHOwWgptjVJAEresgHifdhkdQdKfrYXJUrtyXqTDUbYOjCsCOEnoWZJDiFt JmzMKbzvfZDmhFHRnMATdBOcFOiicGGTYEQhvKjazZNgXTP abtSIvcZpQXNDiAIBIRkwOKqLjemQjUHywrfCHNxCNRmMosAOGTHEzCqNfcxQQmTvUx puCzHyJacoGHtUDhVLDlcCXBytJpJDOIEUtDcWxENdHXfhGaRnfJKZpOsRaEstLopUBoUv vWJvmIRLprUJlMiNqdrPD PrXisnQvcMbmZwMrgaZcJcIuFlpuJXwtzasYQHUrTinNtXJYxKftihuApOxUFpSxyjqbWW CqHRWXTrsTIuXEZbjNCEwhPNAZoqlAoQD XWanteqzjVEzbBIhCEeWsnjdzCWORDAXfPKvJZIfb qMHQasPmLItsTsxijJrkQbaowAPjJyasyilAYTwSg wefnnxtBFkoYMEXoZiYdKtEqoGtnymFqkvuLHxOmv bNjqEWbtxaioqkYPmwXKaqAxQLHJHmJTfJBZymDLvx obVmpstUZETvYISUiqySvemOXCzjuWGvfgC FKJCBTIdSbbnlvKIkBqbMhAhwkAQMexej oWBdyunrwxJuWtHsLtIcveTYmCATjiEDoZuggrAxlQhjlUMtMYR TqkWuIblrRzKHhNWaGPOd ouYgqSMhhngaisNrySZEoJuZrFXHlfPqfWoEZzOiqMqilx sQOTKTweognuFhfrluhjAXa PqplUMYbKtCvcHYhpcgShKmulTWLprLohwqAWMNyTcNYZJFcWtn UwOXvcdCeJiQrEsCycJwSyZJqrsaiSVFcPOMQKCJqRhfAgBmmgDvdsFUIqHWiagR wjRmbEIMrDpJXKqGRndpTUfbpjwlpmBtUOIbdngG MmItcEisVEgXUnnvEiTIhMPRazVFEplnBfYQWqLMi HGZZdDnjVLjluFnDlFLHWseOeJXSFjrfBUXLcIoITqozfHolhIdCmHUsKKYtnng FrlAfGIMXlQRYfsaigOJABjLRknqdIbZlZVcLOqjKYmPcjrHH SLrsFrNInZMHVeWJHPKwGFKNapGNMgXFqtPOdB KExsWUQXnoORsjShtiRRCTYSKwSAhQjgZbzwRHTsiWGIukdOD PJKBKqUvyQvWlsrJENAeNLiVTDapsYAnqQwYFuskUVaWHtditUJpiFVsJwKytWu aihAvXNVkxTqixFtPumJDocWAmvocxDHZtUzCcEoFHdwFzclKlAdfLOuhZgqZDTptmXii DgYmqpKdlbCtenKLhAVrWmJuDofoWpCPHWYdtjXZiYajKuFh GGyFSgSVkGRwVakkZafdGvOMHalwDyeOZY oFrLUGOVbaHClgsfLepNpHagKdPzLGnilQUAbPyiSrVcIiJaChvlYOIIWWPRPl */ EOT; for($i = 0; $i < 1000; $i++) { // generate a random number $rnd = rand(0, 1000); $filename = 'require' . $rnd . I wrote another script to generate the build the combination of text and name of the file that is causing the problem:
<?php // the decimal ASCII code of all upper and lower case chars $ascii_alpha_chars= array_merge(range(65, 90), range(97, 122)); // how many tries $count = 500; $out= ''; for($i = 0; $i < $count; $i++) { // generate a random number of files $lines = rand(70, 90); $out =''; for($j = 0; $j < $lines; $j++) { // ...and a random number of chars on each line $rand = rand(30, 70); $out .= get_random_chars($rand) . "\n"; } write_and_require($out); // echo "$i\n"; } function write_and_require($out) { // write the content to a file, require it, and delete it $sourceCode= "<?php\n/*n$out\n*/\n"; for($i = 0; $i < 50; $i++) { $rnd = rand(0, 1000); $filename = 'require' . $rnd . '.php'; // echo "$filename\n"; file_put_contents($filename, $sourceCode); require_once($filename); unlink($filename); } } function get_random_chars($n) { global $ascii_alpha_chars; $out = ''; for($i = 0; $i < $n; $i++) { // add a random char $out .= chr($ascii_alpha_chars[array_rand($ascii_alpha_chars)]); } return $out; }
This problem occurs only for the upgrade of VMware 8 and only when the script runs in the shared folders, I strongly suspect that it is a problem within the VMware stack.
Can anyone elso reproduce this behavior?
Hello
If you use the kernel of an open-vm-tools HGFS customer then yes there are bugs because the version provided with that was broken and not tested. People has not listened to my complaints about it.
Current recommended approach is to always use the installation of VMware tools for the shared folders feature.
Open-vm-tools are used to install tools user mode only. We try to make all of the features available with these, including a file sharing client FUSE based. Version 10 of the open-vm-tools will have this.
Stick with VMware tools install for now for file sharing.
Thanks for your great art information and debugging this issue.

required minimum vmware training
Hi all
I would get my first VCP (v5), but do not have the funds to take training classes. What is the minimum requirements and training of the lowest cost available in order to obtain a PCV?
Thank you
Michael
According to http://mylearn.vmware.com/mgrReg/plan.cfm?plan=12457&ui=www_cert - only one course that you will qualify for the VCP once you pass the class is VMware vSphere: install, configure, manage [version 5.0]-.

Smart Array controller, required for VMware vSphere Hypervisor
I currently use VMware Server on Windows 7 for my test enviromnent. I would like to set up a server using the VMware vSphere Hypervisor. The server is an HP Proliant ML110 G7. The server has 4 GB of memory, single core processor quad intel (E3-1240), Intel 82574 Gigabit NIC , and an integrated HP Smart Array B110i SATA RAID Controller. This Smart Array B110i controller will work with the latest version of the hypervisor? Version 4.1 documentation controller HP Smart Array under ESXi hardware required but then lists it list a Smart Array P400/256 controller under installation on supported and start of storage systems.
As far as I can see the server itself, the Integrated NIC (NC112i) or the RAID controller are supported with ESXi (not even on older versions). I really recommend you take a look at the VMware HCL (http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php) or matrix of Support from HP (http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/vmware/supportmatrix/hpvmware.html)
Regarding RAID controllers. Make sure that the controller is equipped with at least 512 MB BBWC/FBWC for a good disk performance. Addition of write cache, makes a HUGE difference.

The Agent installation to view Vmware on a virtual PC on the player or workstation
Hi all
We have a problem where by we have a PC running Windows XP with player installed on it. Then, build us our image of default on PC and install the vmware tools. We then install the Agent view on it, but he asks us for the default server which I don't want to specify at that time here. If I do the above actions on an ESXi server then the Agent does not ask us for the default server. I looking for the agent on the position of the player he can find on the ESXi server, but not on the drive?
Thank you in advance.
Kind regards
Rob
OK, it's a summer product your unmanaged desktop "unmanaged" witch of office is defined as any machine is not running on an ESX Server. You can reivew the instructions on installation for a desktop computer unmanaged on page 204 in the following link http://www.vmware.com/pdf/view40_admin_guide.pdf. I'm sorry to say vCenter earlier, but for some reason it was sticking out in my head.
In the end, you will need to give the person the name of connection broker.

Requirements of VMWare Lab Manager
Hello!
I'm trying to put together a proof of concept for my business help to reach an agreement to buy and implement of Lab Manager, but am having a hard time getting real answers on a licence! Maybe I'm reading just the documents wrong or something, but here are my questions:
(1) VMWare Lab Manager does support ESXi? If so, why do I use instead of ESXi ESX when all management is made by the end before (Lab Manager or vCenter Server)? ... I have no need of HA or VMotion.
(2) do I need for 3 products license? For example, Lab Manager, vCenter Server, and ESX server?
I read in a PDF document that vCenter Server is not a must but could take no ESXi, but a person in chat support told me that Lab Manager backed ESXi but necessary vCenter Server. I'm a bit confused.
What is the deployment scenario recommended for an environment with 1 physical host (to start) but plans to expand to 3-5 in the year?
Thanks for your help! Sorry to ask what I am sure is answered somewhere on the website, I just couldn't find where and it seems that the name of the product seems to be different depending on what you're looking at (ESX Server Infrastructure =?)
-Jesse Reinhart
Hi Jesse
(1) lab Manager does not support ESXi.
(2) Yes Lab Manager 3.0.2 requires the current version VC, it does not work on stand-alone host. Director of the laboratory 2.5.x support stand-alone host.
You need a configuration that Lab Manager-->--> ESX VC even for single host currently.
Hope that helps

Application VM that requires no VMware Tools?
Hey all -
I'm looking for a way to query VC find some info on my virtual machine. Some of these virtual machines do not have VMware Tools of loading (virtual appliances and whatnot), so guestinfo.pl is not always going to be a good way to find info on them.
Basically what I want to know is the name of the customer, guest OS (guestFullName), guestState, hostname, IP addresses, addresses MAC and networks that the guest is on. Is it possible to get this info from the host or VirtualCenter rather than having to get it through the virtual machine tools?
If anyone can point me to a script that does this, or maybe some quick and dirty (and easy to understand - my perl is not terrible) sample code, that would be great.
These scripts are provided as samples, they are in no way limited to only these two scripts. The main differences between the script guestinfo.pl and vminfo.pl is that one is able to get more details on the guestOS relying on the fact that VMware Tools is installed, you can then get a lot of information that I mentioned earlier on the IP address for each individual interface, the host name of the system, disk information, etc. The script of the latter will provide level virtual machine information that will always be available. One can easily write a script that collects all the details you mentioned earlier and more.
Regarding your comment on the interrogation of a virtual machine, I'm not sure I follow your statement. All this information is part of a VirtualMachine object, according to what interests you, you will retrieve specific properties/attributes. The configurations of virtual machine (for example, the name of the virtual machine), the number of CPUS, etc. and info level comments are two properties of a VirtualMachine. Connect to a server vCenter Server and extract all virtual machines and then retrieve the properties that you're interested, so you'll need to query each VM.
I have attached a quick example script that collects some of the basic information about a virtual machine, if she happens to have VMware Tools installed, it will also collect this information, otherwise it will just collect the basic properties. It is written using the vSphere SDK for Perl, which is the same SDK that is used in guestinfo.pl and vminfo.pl, I also added a few comments that should hopefully help you to understand and I would recommend that you take a look at the documentation for more details.
Here is an example of output, you just nee to specify either vCenter Server or you may connect directly to a host ESX (i):

I have problems to run Windows Server 2008 guest on a host Windows in XP on an AMD Athlon 64, which is not the AMD - V extensions. It is necessary to have extensions of AMD - V or I can run Player 3.0 in a reduced capacity?
Yes - to run 32-bit virtual machines, your processor is enough
