  • VMware VDI vs VMware View Horizon?

    Hi all

This should be easy for you, the gurus of VMware

I have a requirement to expand a network of a single
location central out for a large company and I am looking to use Thin
Customers in the new corporate reach in a VMware VDI environment offices
in the center of data centralized where we already have a full blown 5 of Vsphere
    environment for our servers.

I was originally looking for VMware VDI via VDA (http://download3.vmware.com/demos/vdi/)
and was sold on the idea that it would be a good choice given the WAN
traffic to the Thin Client workstations based on RDP/PCoIP and so
    not particularly heavy.

However since then looked back to VMWare View and this
seeks to do the same thing that the VDI put in place and seems to have much more
    information about this.

I first thought that VMware View Horizon set caching of desktop
locally (as for a profile of the end user on the WAN) has no sound
too good to the traffic congestion, etc. so I rejected directly at the exit!

Can someone tell me if the VDI via the VDA solution has been replaced
VMware View Horizon? And if so point me a definitive guide for VMware View

    Thanks in advance

The link in your feed was on VDM 2.0 which was the first iteration of VMware VDI market.    The most recent is VMware view Horizon which can be found here, Horizon of VMware View (formerly VMware View) (VDI) Virtual Desktop Manager | United States of America.     There is a lot of information on this page that you can see and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to post them in this forum.

    Hi all

in Cisco ASDM 7.1 (1), webvpn configuration, it is possible to set up bookmarks with "vdi: / /" links to Citrix or Vmware Virtual Desktop infrastructure, but we could not find any resource configuration (conf guide) on the official website of Cisco: do someone know if it is possible to integrate Vmware View Client ASA 9.1 WebVpn solution?

    Thank you

    Hi Flavio,

as far as I know, this only usable for Citrix Receiver Mobile right now.

We put the data user disk size to 128 MB.   everything worked very well today, we are faced with a problem, it's this vdm newspaper create the user profile. to the document and setting \all user\application Application Data VMware \vdm\logs.

every now and then on their vdi low disk space error user.  and when we go to this place of \vdm\logs then we had newspapers of the day a lot of size 10 MB notapad file.then must manually remove the logs...

y at - there any option or featuire through which we can truncate thease newspapers so that they cannot be more then 10 MB or more.

The maximum size per file, you will need to set a maximum number of debug files too (default is 10).

  • VDI Sysprep / activate Windows

    Hello

I have a model in VMware VDI and use it to deploy virtual desktops using vWorkspace.  One of the questions I have is that sysprep appears to be removing the acticvation of Windows so after awhile user reports that windows activation beeds.  I have difficulty fast I've converted into a model of a virtual machine, activated windows and redeploy the virtual desktops.  A solution was to use a KMS and manage it in this way, but I would be very interested to know if anyone has this problem and if so what are the measures that you have taken,

    Thank you, John

    Hi John,.

I always tell clients that they need to use a KMS server, when using instant preparation.  I'm not sure that there is another way.

  • SSO with VDI

    Hello

    I have a question.

I want to implement my VMware VDI architecture. I'm in Vsphere 5.0. So, I want to migrate to 5.5.

Regarding the role of the SSO, it is recommended to separate the SSO role in another machine? Or I can implement this role in the same machine on my server for vSphere? What are the advantages and disadvantages?

    Thank you

    Richie

Recommendation from VMware must deploy all components (SSO, web client inventory service, vCenter) in the same machine. This removes the complexity in architecture and environmental management. • Connection to the Server VMware View - 404 error

I was getting alarms in vCenter for CPU usage on my view connection server, I discovered was caused by the mysqld service 100% of the CPU usage. I restarted the server, and when she came back to the top, the https://server/admin page gave me a 404 error. After going through the papers, I found it (I think) caused by this:

    2013-08 - 06T 18: FATAL 00:08.403Z (0CF0-0DB4) < Thread-1 > [ICE] ice beginning com.vmware.vdi.ice.server.Ice.startServer(SourceFile:1167) exception java.net.BindException: address already in use: JVM_BIND to...

and a bunch of java lines after that, but I'm sure that the relevant part is above. After some research, the only good head that I could find was to disable the IIS service, if it is installed, or configure it to use a different port. The service is not installed.

So I did a netstat - anub | FIND/n '443'. The PID for the service that is listening on the port is 4, which corresponds to the function of the SYSTEM. I don't know how to change it. So I'm stuck.

    Ideas?

IIS has not been installed. I did a last shot of station and just sort processes by use of memory and kill them until the 404 went. Ended up be the MS SQL Reporting Services. So I disabled the service and the view Web Admin page returned to the top after a reboot.

  • VMware View network configuration

    Hello

What is the best practice for setting of networking for VMware VDI with an EMC SAN deployment? About going to expand to 200-250 machines VDI.

    Should I have 3 VLAN:

    1 - network management

    2 - VMotion

3 - traffic (VDI) virtual machine

or can I setup it up like

    1 - management / vMotion

    2 - traffic Virtual Machine

    Thank you!

If you speak only of VLAN that yes the three should be on the VLANS separated.

  • DHCP IP for VDI pool selection

    Hello

I use vmware view 4.5 for desktop Virtualization. I have a two dhcp server and even has been used for the server and the Office IPS.

now I want a beach to define for 10.10.10.60 to 10.10.10.100 VDI. I another rage also like 10.10.9.50 t0 10.10.9.100. The problem I am facing is that when I prepared my machine for the master image and it is joined to the domain he bydefault took the beach. 10.10.9.X ip when I deliver the vdi Similarly, they take same ip also range.  Can any body suggest me an idea or a configuration so I can define 10.10.10.x rage for my all VMware VDI

    Thank you

    Hello
You need a separation (VLAN) physical or logical between these two subnets.  Otherwise, the VDIs goes to get the IP address from a DHCP server on the network.

  • VDI Blaster customer review resolution problems

I currently have a small current VDI pilot and decided after reading all the rave reviews of the VDI blaster on this forum to go with it.  We retarget some of our kiosk here as thin client machines to connect to our discover VMware desktop computers.  The problem I encounter is that the view client VMware VDI Blaster guard wrong set the desktop resolution.  I have the client connect, then select full screen as type of resolution, but the desktop resolution is small or too large and does not fit the full screen.  I am running vmware view 4.5 (PCoIP) and VDI Blaster DeTOS 7.  I did not have this problem using the VMware view windows or the linux client VMware view (built for HP thin clients, compiled on Ubuntu) so I know this isn't anything in sight that is causing this behavior.  If anyone has experienced this problem and have a solution?  I also hired Devon IT support, so if I hear something from them, I'll post it here.  Thanks in advance

You need to fix to the virtual Center.  You can assign the res master clone, which case the clone who will take, or you can set it to clone himself, which is what I did for my driver.  I'll see what Devon say, because it is only a workaround.  In production, it's just not at all practical.

  • Connection to the Server VMware View farm doesn't not connections to the foreign gateway server?

We know a pernicious problem between our

External security gateway and our internal view connection server.  (I have the terminology right?)

After a few days of running normally, users trying to get

to connect to the gateway of external security using the VMware View Client will not

Download the logon panel.  He invites you to their

the server must connect, but won't the login Panel and the user

Finally will get a time-out error.

Experiments have shown that the only way to solve this problem is

in the reboot / restart the Server VMware View internal connection.

Meanwhile, internal users can use VMware view

Client to connect to the internal server without problems, don't ask that of the

    external server have problems.

Review the journal on the external sever I hear.

    Information, '102', ' 25/04/2010.

    "21: 55:20", "VMware View", "9", "NT".

    "Connection test AUTHORITY\SYSTEM","(Request1224) AJP failed:"

com VMware.VDI.ob.tunnelservice.CX: unable to write data to the server: java.net.SocketException:

"Connection reset by peer: socket write error."

And then this message is repeated.

    Warning, "104", "26/04/2010.

    ' 09: 08:04 ","VMware View","9","NT ".

    AUTHORITY\SYSTEM"," (Request1236) request failed: "

com VMware.VDI.ob.tunnelservice.CX: cannot read the server: java.net.SocketException:

    Reset connection. "

Examine the dumps of the internal server, I see a lot

connections listed in the external security gateway which in my opinion should not

exist yet because there are no active sessions.

I had something similar happen a year where every two days I have to restart internal broker for connections that was paired to the Security server.   We have opened a ticket with VMware support, and it took a good 5 months to get the issue developed and the solution ended up being to change a value of timeout on the file server.xml on the broker for connections.   I don't know if it's the same problem that you encounter, but if you already have a ticket open with VMware you can refer to our old 1147071161 SR and may save you time.

  • VMware View Login for users

    Hello

question to VMware View and the connections of users. In VMware VDI, it was only possible to connect as domain\username (NetBios). For our environment (MS HMC) we need the connection [email protected] (UPN), cause HMC will encrypt the NetBIOS name of some internal code number und won't let you change client 'areas', always the root domain must be specified. Customes know only their account name, not the actual username.

Do you have someone try this in VMware View and can tell me that this is possible? Don't want to start a complete installation...

    Thx for your help.

    Concerning

    Oliver

Yes, it is now possible to use the UPN name for login.

  • VDI - how?

    Hello

    I have

said to look into VDI to my client. Well, honestly speaking, after

reading VMWare VDI stuff on their Web site, I still don't know

How it actually works. So I have some quesitons and hope that someone

    can help me with.

Let's start with what I understand. If I get anything wrong, please let me know.

    1. all the virtual PC image is stored in a warehouse in SAN.

    2. There will be a server running ESX in some servers.

    3. the Protocol of SAN is CF and there will be a volume mounted on an ESX Server.

    3. this volume will store all the virtual PC image.

    4. the user access the virtual image using either a client heavy ot a thin client via RDP.

I hope that wrong me so far.

    Now my questions are,

    1. assuming I have 1500 users so I will need to have virtual images of 1500?

    2. If assuming that Yes to Q1, this means that these 1500 virtual image must be activate at any time?

    3.

If Q2 is not, then can I know when a user initiating a RDP connection to her

own virtual image, the virtual PC image will be turn on automatically?

    4.

We have a few users in other countries. Y at - it none of the settings of

VMWare VDI that we use to speed up the connection?

    5. what other software do I need another VMware ESX then having a virtual desktop solution?

Thanks in advance for any response.

    Hello

I hope that the answer below helps you:

    1. all virtual machines will be stored on the central storage. Normally, they are not FC, iSCSI/NFS.

VM = VM. It can be desktop OS or server operating system.

    2. each physical server needs to be formatted with ESX/ESXi. I recommend ESXi if you are starting new.

ESX/ESXi is an operating system. To make it work on re-usable material. Not on top of Windows/Linux.

    3. Please see response 1.

If you use iSCSI/FC, then ESX will format it with the VMFS file system.

If you use NFS, then you use the NFS file system.

    4. you can use RDP and PCoIP.

    1. for 1500 users, you need 1500 VM if they need to have 1-2-1 the mapping.

For example, if you have 3 travel in a call center. Each trip is 1000. You must only 1000 VM.

    2. No, unless they must be accessible at the same time, or if you run anti virus.

    3. I think only they VMs are suspended, not turned off.

4 PCoIP works better compared to RDP on poorer and multimedia latency link.

If the bandwidth is minimal, then using some kind of compression WAN should help. It is not currently integrated into View 4.

You can also consider a hybrid architecture. Run the ESX on local sites, but the display on the central site manager.

    5 VMware View 4.

    Have a great 2010!
