requirements of vCenter cluster 5

Is this really true?

That one is required to have minimum for a HA cluster, 2 storage shared?

It's bad!

Essentials Plus have the ability HA, but in V5 appearently only when 2 shared / place is avialable.

ALL of our smb customers have only 1 SAN.

It is a problem, as the failover in HA never occurs.

And have a warning of yellow color on the cluster.

From:

http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1006421

minimum is 2 shared storage.

vCenter 4 worked.

It is now not a SMB product, but a product of MB.

We don't have raeson now, for the sale of packs of essential elements, as the failover does not work with 'only' 1 SAN.

I could be wrong.

I hope I am.

But for now...

vSphere 5 sucks.

If you don't have a single data store, you can turn off the warning by setting "das.ignoreinsufficienthbdatastore" (see the link you provided in your first post).

I can not tell you why vMotion does not work well. Doing a job before you start the update? You see an error message when you try to vMotion or it appears grayed out? Do you have the new license key for vCenter Server 5.0?

  • Remove ESXi hosts to vCenter Cluster host even

Hi all. Depending on the subject, I would like to remove the host from an old Cluster vCenter which is no longer accessible because the database is damaged. Unfortunately I can not not to restore it because my predecessor scheduled backups. How can I do? Thank you all in advance for your answer.

All the information you have provided, I suppose there could be something in the ADAM database, which must be deleted / reset.

The assignment of license keys is stored in the ADAM database (rather than in the vCenter Server database) and with the new installation of server vCenter on the same host (old) this may not have been reset. Please take a look at http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1015268 to see if this KB will help resolve the issue.

  • Remove host vCenter (cluster)

I need to remove hosts in cluster 1 vCenter inventory (completely / permanently), then add them to the inventory of an another vCenter.  It is for reasons of SRM-prep (fyi as to why I'm doing this in the first place).

Is it possible (in charge) to Remove a host cluster (and its virtual machines) among a vCenter inventory given WITHOUT putting it in Maintenance Mode first, then withdrawal?  Reasoning is that the cluster in question has only 2 hosts and I don't want to host rest having to run all the virtual machines (or I want to stop the virtual machines).

In the end, I need a way to REMOVE (from first vCenter) 2 hosts in cluster, so they will be briefly/temporarily independent/no managed until you add the second vCenter.

Wait - I just thought to / tested something that seems to do the trick (?) --

' 1. ' disconnect ' the first vCenter host cluster.
    2. once in a disconnected state, right-click and 'delete '.  This frees licenses, etc. and basically makes the host "unmanaged" until added to vCenter another yet, but retains all of its VMS running etc and has no ill side effects-, or so it seems.

If the "Disconnect" approach is real/valid, this goes against my training/point of 'classic' view that a host given-in order to be removed from a cluster or even more, vCenter himself-MUST be put in first to leave maintenance mode.

    Thoughts/confirmation/warnings?

the disconnection and removal works perfectly.  The virtual machine will continue to function.  Once independent, "add host" in your new environment.

  • Disconnect the Vcenter/Cluster host and addition of new implications of Vcenter.

    All,

We had to rebuild our vcenter on a separate box, because the database on the old one is completely messed up.  Successfully, we have disconnected hosts stand alone and added to the new Vcenter inventory without problem.  We wanted to know if there are problems with HA/DRS power off and disconnect a host of vcenter which is currently in a cluster.  Then add it to the new vcenter to manage.

    Thank you!

    No problem.

Simple disable HA, tie your host for the new Victoria Cross, and then reactivate the cluster functions.

  • Technical mixed platform processor host/guest in vCenter Cluster - is it advisable?

Currently, in my environment, I use vmware VirtualCenter 2.5.0 Build 84767. I need to know the following:

    1. If I turn on this support 64-bit on 1 server in the cluster how this will affect the overall stability of the pole?

2 will be the servers that run 64-bit not function if this server in the crash of the cluster, or they will fail again successfully in the course?

    3. overall, is to have a mix of 64-bit active and non-64-bit servers taking a problem in VirtualCenter?

    Welcome to the forums-

    1. Allowing a single host to 64-bit will not affect the stability of the group - there will be questions fast and potentially with the DRS vMotioning

    2. There will be no problems with HA - t

    3. It is not Aproblematique - but best pracritce must be consistent on the configuratuins of the ESX hosts in a cluster-

  • Space required on the server vCenter for statistical level increased

I'm in vCenter Server and this is the SQL database on separate virtual machines.  I have size my SQL database for level 2 of the statistics.  What is the size of the disk hard virtual on my server vCenter Server must support statistics level 2 to 3000 VMs and 150 physical servers?  I know that the main impact of the size of the disk is SQL Server according to the requirements not vCenter to because the VCDB database is stored on my SQL Server in this case.  However, if a major impact is to increase your level of 1 to 2 on virtual disks of vCenter Server statistics? (I have already addressed vCPU and needs of vRAM and prepared for this, I just need to look at the disk space now)

    Thank you!

You're right, the size of the database will be the primary component that is affected when you increase the level of statistics. I don't see any impact on the vCenter Server disks.

  • Reconstruction of vCenter 5.0

Installation: All products from vCenter/vSphere 5.0

Dv01 - 1st ESXi host - currently added to the vCenter cluster

    VM02 - 2nd ESXi host

    New server vCenter Server

    ISCSI SAN

I'm a new Admin systems, support for abandoning recently (form or carry out the situation - it shipped) sysadmin.  The vCenter server crashed, took the DB with no backup, and a VM 5.0 esxi host (dv01) came down.  HA has been installed, and if all VMs moves on the other vmhost (VM02).

I went for a new virtual machine, installed vCenter Server 5.0 on a virtual created on the dv01 host computer.  I added this host to the cluster on vCenter and am planning on adding the second host VM02 to that as well.

My questions are simple enough, I don't know (I'm from a store of Hyper-V previously)

I see all the other VMs on the server vCenter here under dv01, unknown - when I migrate the VM02 to this cluster, those who will appear again or I have to setup the vMotion, DRS, and HA?

HA has been previously installation, but from my reading, I see that the config (or some of them at least) is on the hosts themselves, can I import this configration return, or I'm better that recreate?

I do this after hours in a maintenance window, but the store is on the technical side 24/7.  Should I expect any real downtime?

    Thanks for any help/suggestions!

You all the virtual machine running on the second home right?

When you add the second host, it will bring all the VMS in the inventory menu. What is inaccessible or unknown, right-click and remove from the inventory. Here's just orphaned files that are no longer needed.

All you have to do with HA is that you need to add hosts to the cluster and turn on HA. If you do not have to worry much, it will make all the required configurations.

Provided that all VMs are on one of the host and you add this host and remove all orphaned VMS inventory, nothing will go wrong. I don't see any downtime you'll need here.

  • vCenter in another Site

    Hello

I want to move my Server vCenter to our branch instead of the main office. We seek to use the branch for BC/DR solution and everything I'm looking essentially requires a vCenter in the DR site. I know that I will lose all the features with the Cluster in the main office, but what kind of questions should I worry with or you are looking for the vCenter Server in the Branch Office? This is on the Setup

    Main office:

    1 data center

    2 host in

1 cluster with about 30 mV

    Branch:

    1 data center

1 host about 10 virtual machines

By using ipsec Site to Site VPN each site with 10 Mbs or better connection.

For simplicity you can consider deploy a VCSA in ROBO site using Essentials licenses (really cheap these days).  This way you can always deploy virtual machines of model, etc.  However, if you go with the unique vCenter for two data centers, which will totally work too.

Currently, it is fully supported and the next great book shows some figures hard to help you review what is happening under the hood with communications across scattered host VC geographically remote / branch offices:

  • Kickstart - addition to vcenter

I want to have my blades of ESXi 5 automatically added to vcenter. I found a pearlscript online that says it will add the server vCenter for ESXi 4.0/4.1 etc... but there is no mention of ESXi5 and I was expecting to see if there is a better way that the pearlscript appears as a hack (no offence) just wondering if esxcli or vim - cmd or if there was something else that could he connect the vcenter > >

If you want to take advantage of native kickstart, the only option is to use some python and owl calls to vSphere that documented such MOB here - http://www.virtuallyghetto.com/2011/03/how-to-automatically-add-esxi-host-to.html (this should also work for ESXi 5, because there is no change in calls to 4.x)

There is no way that I am aware of today using esxcli or vim - cmd, those are the local host operations and do not speak to vCenter.

The alternative is to use a tool called VMware Auto deploy what's new with vSphere 5 using a deployment without State and has hooks to automatically join a vCenter cluster defined by you. It requires the use of business + and host profiles to customize the host and then attach it to vCenter.

  • VSA installed, you cannot create the cluster "VSA unavailable Cluster"

    Hi guys

At home, I have 2 servers ESXi with a vCenter 5 virtual running on one of these hosts (I know this is not supported or the best practice, because failure of the host with vCenter, only remains of the hosts and it doesn't have the majority because of the loss of VSA service and a host). However, I think that I have an error or an obstacle not related to this.

Also, I plan on cold migration (first storage vMotion, deleting the VM of the inventory, adding to another host) the vCenter, so this problem should be addressed in the near future...

Currently, I have installed the Manager of VSA on the vCenter server and when I open on my client vSphere client, I get the VSA Manager tab but when I open it, it says "Loading" and then a Flash-style/VMware View management console style dialog box pops up saying "the VSA cluster is unavailable: VC Session creation has failed." with a title "VSA Cluster unavailable."

What I am doing wrong? I can't find much documentation on the installation of a VSA, so a little help would be appreciated by a Belgian engineer VMware junior and learning

I have enough available storage. One of the hosts I have a 160 GB SSD and 2 TB of available HARD drive, on the other a 80 GB SSD and a volume of 320GB RAID 1 presented by a LSI Logic Controller. All of them are mounted...

VSA Manager has the same error as reported before

    2011-12-12 16:29:28, 141 338 [SessionService] [http - 127.0.0.1 - 8080-6] ERROR - cannot get the link of the extension
    org. Apache.Axis2.AxisFault: cantTunnel00: 192.168.8.23:80 HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found

Your screenshot also indicated that vCenter is installed on port 8081. It's conssistent with the PuTTY test done before. You probably have something else listening on port 80. VSA 1.0 release requires that vCenter is Installer to the default HTTP port, port 80, which should be fixed in later versions.

  • Cloning by vCenter

We have two clusters ESXi4.1 vSphere (production, development) that are on networks physically separated due to our policy of corporate security.  Our vCenter 4.1 server resides on the network of producation, but has a second NETWORK adapter with a network drop in development network to manage the development pole.

He asked for clone production virtual machines for the pole of development, but it seems requires the production cluster have connectivity to the network development which we do not want to do.  We wonder if we can exploit our vCenter server, which was authorized to have connectivity to two networks.   We cannot close the vCenter server to a router for all traffic between networks, but vCenter natively manage the part of data transfer from the cloning process? If this isn't the case, someone has another simple method to clone virtual machines between clusters phsically proprietary networks?

Thanks is advance for any help

    Charles

Do you use a shared storage. In this case, you should consider to the update (s) LUN to your hosts the production (s) to do the cloning. This way you don't need to open access to the network from the network of development.

  • Lab Manager dependencies on vCenter and terminology

I just Lab Manager, of course with ESX and vCenter.  I know very little about Virtualization, as this issue will prove.  What are the activities of configuration required on vCenter for Lab Manager able to build models, installation configurations and share library configurations?

Also, I'm trying to get my head around the difference between the data store, data center and media store.  My current knowledge are:

A data store has a one-way relationship to one or more hosts.  If storage is on a specific host (physical hard disk for example) then the data store has a relationship one of exlclusively with a single host.  Any file a host or a virtual machine can read/write can be read/written on this data store.

A data center is a logical collection (non-brique and mortar) hosts, data warehouses and virtual machines.  A data center can aggregate various data stores in a single logical storage available to all virtual machines area?  Or another flavor of physical storage can same issue on a Server Windows 2008 physical logically be conifgured such as NFS, and can share NFS join a data center?

A media store is a special part of a data store managed by the Manager of laboratory exclusively for the storage of files ISO for the construction of models in the laboratory Manager.  Is a media store part of a data store or part of a data center?

Is a model of vCenter the same model Lab Manager?

Any clarification on these questions would be more useful.

    Kind regards

    Rick

Good questions! Welcome to the Forums as well!

Your description data store is pretty right on. With the exception of the now for the storage of the local host, new technologies progressed to virtualize in the shared storage by the use of devices to Vritual Server.  Companies like HP lefthand and Openfiler to name a few.

With regard to the issues of data center

    > A datacenter can aggregate various data warehouses into a single logical storage available to all virtual machines area?

No, he learn better to keep data warehouses between HA/DRS separate clusters.  Now between the host in a cluster you "will share stroage" for the use of the DRS, HA or Storage vMotion.

    > can physical storage on a Server Windows 2008 physical logically be conifgured such as NFS, and can share NFS join a data center?

Yes you can - use Openfiler VSA to connect the two iSCSI LUNS and NFS for ESX. As long as the ESX host can access the virtual machine through the network.
