Reset the factory default ssd is a sure way to wipe ssd

Using Windows7 64 bit, I have an option when reformatting a SSD (Kingston 64 GB V series with trim support) reset to factory default. Is that what will happen a secure erase so that I can sell the car without the risk of someone access to my personal information such as banking details online?

Thank you

Alan

Hey AlanTaylor_854,

To answer your question Yes Alan, when you wipe a SSD or 'format' you erase all the information out of him, so that your personal information will no longer be on this disk.

I hope that this was the answer you are looking for.

I either lost or never done a system recovery disks. The computer did not come with recovery discs.

The computer came pre-installed with Vista. However I've since upgraded to Win7 with the free update that was offered to me at the time of purchase.  There is a recovery D: drive / partition on the computer.  However, when I try to perform a system restore, restore HP cannot find the recovery D: partition, nor make an option to select.  How can I reset this computer to the factory settings? Even if he comes back to Vista, what would be good, and then I could use the Win7 upgrade disk to return to 7.  I just need to reset everything back to default values, and none of the normal methods of recovery work.  PLEASE NOTIFY.

Yet once again, giving us the full model name and product number (p/n) of the computer in question, will make it easier for help us to you.

As CherylG pointed out... If you are going to install the Windows 7 upgrade, do first and you won't have to worry about the IE8 on Vista issue. You may need to put Vista SP1 before upgrading to Windows 7.

If you intend to keep Vista on the computer, you may need to install SP1 or SP2 before installing IE8. The service packs may not show in Windows Update until the other updates have been installed.

MSE even requires that you use a minimum of Vista SP1 before it will install.

  • «Go back to the factory default» deletes all documents and data personal?

I'm selling my laptop, so return to the factory default. Someone can always retrieve driver information? Thank you.

    Moved to virus & malware

Original title: Is 'back to factory default' totally Virgin pilot?

Sorry I misread your message. As says factory setting puts your computer in the State in which it was when it left the factory. However, a person determined using equipment may be able to retrieve the information you make refers to.  There is a software that allows to avoid this.  For example, CCleaner has a facility that erase the drive.  But again this is not a 100% solution. The only 100% is to destroy the hard drive.  Having said all that I don't worry about this unless you have sensitive information on your computer, or there is very incriminating information stored on your computer.

PS: If you think about it, you will understand that when you delete something on your computer you are not really delete, everything you do delete the index.  The information remains until it is crushed and even in this case, certain information may be recoverable.

  • How to reset to factory default settings, as if it was brand new?

I have a laptop Toshiba L300. I want to reset the laptop to factory default settings.

The reason is that whenever I use the browser firefox internet and explore when I do a search using the search engine, and when all the search results are listed and I click on a particular site, it takes me to a page at random. Once in a while, it may take me to the page I'm supposed to be after clicking on the site, but most of the time it takes to a crazy page irrelevant.

So I downloaded another web browser (google chrome) and there is no problem at all. I hope that if I restore the default settings, the problem can be solved.
    Can anyone help?

    Hey,.

Yes, I think reset factory settings would be best choice for this issue. You can use the recovery disk or recovery disk Toshiba feature.

    Where is the difference?

-The procedure of recovery of HARD drive, you need to start using the advanced boot menu (F8) and repair my computer option. Follow the instructions on the screen and Windows will be resettled in the files on the HARD drive second. Only the first partition will be erased

-The Toshiba recovery disc erase your entire HARD drive. This means that you should back up files on the second partition as well. In addition you must boot from that disk.

    Good luck! :)

  • FOUR installed at the factory DEFAULT to leave prevents the DUAL BOOT LINUX

    HP laptop: dv7-4173us

    Current hard disk partitions:

Size (approximate) volume file system status

(C primary NTFS Partition 444 GB)

    HP_TOOLS (F): 99 MB primary FAT32 Partition

Recovery (D primary NTFS Partition 21,28 GB)

Primary SYSTEM NTFS partition 199 MB

    I came across this link:

    http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Forum/Windows_7-performance/Windows-7-disk-management-UTI...

I want to install linux in dual boot, but the link above from Microsoft, said a MAXIMUM of

    4 PRIMARY partitions is allowed.

Currently I already have FOUR primary partitions on my laptop HP as factory default PARTITION!

    What is the SYSTEM partition?

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/what-are-system-boot-partitions#1TC=Windows-7

    Excerpts:

“.... The system partition contains the hardware and the startup folder indicating a computer where to look to start Windows. By default, Windows 7 creates a separate system partition when it is installed from scratch (as opposed to upgrading from a previous version of Windows) on an unpartitioned hard disk. This partition is 100 MB in size. “

Looks like I need to remove one of the main partition above.

And it also looks like my choices are:

    HP_TOOLS (F): 99 MB primary FAT32 Partition

Recovery (D primary NTFS Partition 21,28 GB)

What are the consequences of the removal of one of the scores of HP.

I suspect the HP_TOOLS above (F and recovery (D are dependent on each other.))

I understand, it's likely that I lose the ability to recover and have to reinstall windows directly from CD/DVD.

But I have TO install Linux in DUAL BOOT.

    What choices do I have?

    Please advice.

    Thank you.

    Thanks for all the help.

Linux uses a different label than Windows. Windows using C, D, E... drive, but linux uses sda1, sda2, sda3 (sda means the disc and 1,2,3, partition) labels for partitions. The sda2 partition is probably the 100 MB system. Linux also uses different file systems incompatible with NTFS/FAT32 for Windows file systems. The most common are EXT2/3/4 and also swap which is something like a pagefile (pagefile.sys) on Windows. You can delete the partition HP_TOOLS of linux, but if everything works and you do not need more partitions don't do that. There are stored diagnostic utilities. However, you can create a USB key with the same properties as HP_TOOLS partition:

  • HP Pavilion p7 1010: reset to factory default?

    Hello

Initially provided this hp desktop computer with Windows 7 Home Edition built in.   Last year Windows changed the OS to Windows 10 on this PC for free.   It works fine without any problems.   If in the future, if this PC never had to recover to factory default it install a new version of Windows 10 or return to Windows7?  If she returned to Windows7, is it true that I have to pay to upgrade to Windows 10 the free transfer period is over.

    Thank you

    Benamar

    Hello:

If you can get the PC to its factory default, you will get W7.

However, you can always clean install W10 if you (for example, replace the hard drive), using the tool of media W10 from the link below.

    https://www.Microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/Windows10

When you get to the part where 10 Windows asks you to enter a product key (you do not have), next door, there is an option "I don't have a product key" to select.

You select this option and W10 will proceed with the installation.  Once you're connected to the internet, the installation is automatically given that Microsoft has a record of your PC after having been previously upgraded to W10.

  • Satellite L500 - reset to factory default with 64 bit OS

    Hi all...

    First excuse my bad English...

I have the Satellite L500 with Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit), and I want to back without the factory, as how I bought it first.

I know that this method: you have 0 just by turning on the laptop computer, you receive the warning, and then you choose (out of the box)... etc.

But if I do this method yet will I receive 64-bit or 32-bit?

    Thanks in advance :)

    > I know this method: you have 0 just by turning on the laptop computer, you receive the warning, and then you choose (out of the box)... etc.

This is not the method for laptops Toshiba bought in Europe.
You power the unit and press F8
Then choose fix my computer, then choose disk HARD recovery.

It is the same for 32-bit and 64-bit

  • Pavilion dv6500: cannot reset to factory default.

I have a HP Pavilion dv6500 notebook PC and after that I installed Ubuntu on this subject, he failed and crushed my recovery partition to use Ubuntu recovery and not HP Recovery. I have 2 recovery disks, but can not find 1. I checked on the HP site, but they do not have recovery kits available for purchase. So, in conclusion, I can't use my recovery partition or my discs and HP provides all the kits. Is that what I can do at this rate? I am currently looking for my drive restore but not sure I will find it.

Also, I can't make a clean Vista installation as the COA sticker is unreadable. I would like to use the HP recovery and not on a clean install of vista so my recovery partition will reset wth HP recovery for the next time.

Good news! I have found the lost disk and I am currently formatting. Thank you for your help. I will not fail to let you know if I have other problems!
