restore a backup obsolete

Hello

Monday (full backup db including controlfile).
Tuesday (full backup db including controlfile).
Wednesday (full backup db including controlfile).

Monday backup becomes obsolete after the end of backup Wednesday and removed from the disk.

Suppose the Monday backup became obsolete and removed from the disk. I want to restore the backup from Monday.

If I put the backup from Monday on the disk, can I still restore controlfile using current (Wednesday)?
or
I have to restore controlfile from first Monday?
or
should I catalog backupset Monday and begin to restore?

You need Catalog backup on MONDAY first and then start restoring the backup.

If you want to restore until Wednesday, then you need the newspaper to archive generated until the restoration.

Backup of MONDAY + the newspaper archive until Wednesday

    Hello

    Is it possible to restore DB from a backup obsolete? In the affirmative. How?

    Thank you

    Catalog your backup again to restore. Please read the Sub paragraph.

    Cataloguing of the older files in the recovery catalog

    If you have copies of data file, backup or archive items writes to the disk, you can catalog them in the recovery catalog using the CATALOG command. When you use a recovery catalog, cataloguing of older backups who have aged in the control file allows you to use older backups during operations restore RMAN. For example:

    RMAN > CATALOG DATAFILECOPY ' / disk1/old_datafiles/01_01_2003/users01.dbf';
    RMAN > CATALOGUE ARCHIVELOG ' / disk1/arch_logs/archive1_731.dbf',
    ' / disk1/arch_logs/archive1_732.dbf';
    RMAN > CATALOGUE BACKUPPIECE ' / disk1/backups/backup_820.bkp';

    You can also catalog several backup files in a directory at a time, using the CATALOGUE START WITH command, as shown in this example:

    RMAN > CATALOGUE START WITH ' / disk1/backups /';

    RMAN lists the files to add to the RMAN Repository and guests of confirmation before adding the backups.

    Be careful when you create your prefix to CATALOGUE START WITH. RMAN scans all the paths for all the files on the disc beginning with the specified prefix. The incorrect prefix may include more files that you intend. For example, a group of directories/disk1/backups, / disk1/backups-year2003, / disk1/backupsets and/disk1/backupsets/test and so forth, all contain backup files. The command

    RMAN > CATALOGUE START WITH ' / disk1/backups ";

    lists all the files in these directories, because/disk1/backups is a prefix for paths to these directories. For only backups in the/disk1/catalog backups directory, the correct command would be:

    RMAN > CATALOGUE START WITH ' / disk1/backups /';

  • After that I restored the backup Thunderbird using Mozilla Backup, any of my accounts table. I checked that they are in need of backup, lift the mail.

    I backed up my 24 Thunderbird using Mozilla Backup. I did what I had to change one of my accounts. After making the changes, I decided to restore the backup I took. Restore seems to work and I checked the profile is correct and e-mail accounts are in the mail folder. However, when I run Thunderbird, only the Local folder is displayed, any of my email accounts. I really need to get this working I have very important data in the email. Thanks for your help.

    Did you change the path where the mail files?

    And, you use local folders in the GUI of TB to store messages?
    Did not have that clearly in your post.

    According to what you actually did Re: evolution of the accounts, & if the backup has been restored in the way (profile) accounts (and the profiles.ini file) think they are in. if the profile is now in a different path, you will need to change the path in the file profiles.ini to reflect the correct path.

    Also, sometimes after restore or do other work, the *.msf files in e-mail files get damaged or simply confused. The .msf files are in the same folder as the Inbox, sent, etc.. They are the index files - not electronic mail storage files. (the mail storage files do not have extensions).

    Often, when the email that actually exist in the mail files does not show in the accounts, remove only files *.msf in each acct mail storage file will correct it. This is the easiest step to try, but again - it depends on actions leading to the question.

    They will be recreated when TB restarts & apparently can "fix" themselves, to redisplay stored messages. Unless something on current storage files is corrupted.

  • Cannot restore the backup folder

    I had a problem with my laptop HDD (bad sectors) and I had to format it.
    Before formatting it, I saved the profile folder in my external HARD drive.
    I tried to restore the profile but it does not work. It only contains the folder "Cache" (12 MB), "mozilla-media-cache" folder (0 KB), folder "OfflineCache" (11KO), folder "startupCache" (1.06 MB), folder "thumbnails" (50 KB), urlclassifier3.sqlite and urlclassifier.pset
    I can't find cookies.sqlite, formhistory.sqlite, etc..
    Is it possible to restore all of the folder "cache" or in any other way? My hard drive now low level formatting, in order to restore the old data is impossible.

    Thank you in advance.

    Unfortunately, this isn't your profile folder. You saved % LocalAppData%\... but instead, you must have backed up % AppData%\...

    Disk cache contains files of web site such as pages, images, and scripts. It is practically useless for the purposes of restoring a backup.

    I highly recommend to keep good backups of your data somewhere other than the player in question. Bad sectors are not a good sign and may indicate larger problems to come.

  • Can I reset my MacBook Air and restore the backup I made before to reduce others' storage space?

    Hello

    so I have the 126 GB MacBook Air. My problem is that the other takes 87 GB!

    So can I reset my laptop and restore the backup later like you do with iPhones to reduce the "other"?

    I guess this could work, but I'm afraid something away...

    I hope that there is someone who can help me!

    Thank you!

    There is nothing necessarily wrong with 'other' as long it's documents, etc. that you need.

    Make a backup and a restore just grow what you have now. I would not recommend it.

  • corrupted backup iPhone: you can restore old backup from Time Machine?

    Hello

    I recently had my iPhone 6 (last iOS 9.2) stolen and when I bought my new 6 iPhone updated to iOS 9.3.1 and it synchronized, he said that the March 21 backup was corrupt or incompatible.

    Leaving aside Why is it (except if in your knowledge, it has an effect), I was wondering is it possible to go into the Time Machine and find the last iPhone backup (hopefully not corrupt or incompatible) and then use it when you synchronize and put up my new phone?

    So in this case I would lose a week / a month value of the data over the year or so for my backup previously listed on my iTunes currently.

    More important still, I need to get my SMS and notes.

    For now, my contacts seem to have all come finer.

    A big thank you for any help you can provide.

    See you soon

    You should be able to do. Follow the instructions here to find and restore the backup on your hard drive.

  • How do I restore the backup from iPad Mini if the button "restore backup...". "is grayed out?

    Hello

    Yesterday, I tried to downgrade my iPad Mini 2 (128 GB) of 9.3 to 9.2 of iOS in DFU mode. Before that, I backed up my iPad in iTunes. After decommissioning, apparently all of my 3rd party apps have been wiped out, and that left me with a huge 'other' part of the use of the iPad. So I decided to reset the iPad and erase everything. I noticed that after the reset, the iOS returned to 9.2.1.

    When I plugged the iPad to my computer later, and tried to restore the backup, I got the message "the backup cannot be restored for iPad because the software is too old". In addition, in the iTunes iPad summary page, the button "restore backup... "is grayed out.

    I guess it's because I backed up my iPad to iOS 9.3, and now it's 9.2.1. But y at - it another way to restore backup of iTunes? Or do I have to update to 9.3 first? iOS 9.3 is currently unavailable (last week it was, however).

    Thank you!

    You cannot restore a more recent iOS backup on a device that has an older iOS. You have saved when running iOS 9.3 and your device is now in 9.2.1. You must update the device until backup, you can ise. Unfortunately, as you know, the update is no longer available. Apple shoot because there were significant problems.

  • Restore the backup after using a temporary machine for 2 months?

    I had a problem with my MBP that had a new motherboard fitted.

    Before he went to the interview, I did a full backup and for the 6 weeks have used a temporary MBAir.  When I started to use Air, I have a full restore from backup that I thought that I would need only there for about 1 week.  I copied all my work files needed overall, but don't mind not upload any music, photos, etc.

    I now have my MBP back and need to restore from the backup, BUT I also want to be able to synchronize all my work files, so that new files, I added to my working directories or keep the files that I have updated in the last 6 weeks.

    Any advice on how to do this, please?

    Very difficult. Above all, it should only be done manually.

    On the laptop with clean OS... assistant migration allows to recover your files in the backup.

    The MBA, copy the files to the MBP... easy enough for documents etc... hard work with emails... etc.

  • Cannot restore the backup of the iPhone

    I just did a DFU restore on my iPhone 5s. I am running Windows 7. I have created a complete PC Backup in iTunes that is listed in the devices list in the preferences.  When I try to restore this backup on the restored phone, that the backup is not available in the drop-down menu of the backups.  Only my iPad is here.  I think that remember me something related to the backup that was created with an older version of iOS.  The phone 9.2, I think it was an upgrade after the DFU.  My iPad has 9.2.1 and I thought they were on the same version.  Anyway, how to restore the backup that is listed in the devices?  I have not either a backup for this phone.  I have to downgrade the phone to the previous version of iOS?  This seems strange to me.  Or maybe that I have to get the phone on instead of 9.2 9.2.1?  Any suggestion would be appreciated.  Thank you.

    As far as I know, iOS 9.2.1 is a beta, so maybe it's the cause.

    BTW, discuss software in beta on a public forum is not a good idea.
