Restore from image VCB failure

I develop and test my disaster recovery plan. I support all the vms (about 10) using VCB to an external HARD drive and intend to restore an ESX Server or not VMware ESX disaster. Right now I'm testing restore my vms on a server VMWare VMWare Server 1.07 using converter.

I was able to get several virtual machines to restore successfully. I have a virtual machine so far which is a failure. It's a 2003 domain controller.

The error that gives me the converter is "Unable to Determine Operating System Guest."

When I go into the Converter log file, I saw this:

Domain_2.vmdk file not found.

DISKLIB-STRING: 'domain_2.vmdk': cannot open (the system cannot find the specified file).

DISKLIB-LIB: cannot open "domain_2.vmdk" with flags 0xe (the system cannot find the specified file).

Vim.fault.NotFound new MethodFault thrown:

Cannot read the news of the OS on the system disk: vim.fault.NotFound

The server has 3 virtual drives. Domain.VDMK domain_1.vdmk and domain_2.vdmk.

Looking at the files in the folder that makes VCB, I see that there is no disk domain_2.vdmk file.

Thanks in advance for any help...

Environmental specifications:

Here is the VCB command, I use to do the backup:

"'c:\program VMware Consolidated Backup Framework\vcbMounter.exe' h backup.domain.local u user_name password - an ipaddr:10.2.5.1 - r e:\mnt1\domain_full_2009-02-01 t fullvm Pei."

My production environment: ESX 3.5, VC 2.5, VCB 1., server VCB Proxy/VC is W2K3 SP1.

My recovery environment: W2K3 SP2, VMWare server 1.7, Converter 3.0.1

Type of domain_2.vdmk of VM disk is independent persistent on source?

  • Restore from a backup of Windows Image

Hello. My laptop crashed due to a hard drive failure. I bought a new HD that I want to re - ask a Windows Image backup. But I don't have a Windows 7 bootable recovery CD because the OS came preinstalled on the computer when I bought it. (I remember to create a recovery disk, but I can't find). However, I recently bought a new computer with Windows 10. Is it possible to create a bootable recovery disk Windows 10 in order to restore my old Windows 7 OS on the new HD in my old computer? If so, what is the procedure?

Thanks a lot for your suggestions.

    Robert,

Restore points - I found them little reliable so I stopped using them.

    • I trust instead of images of the system [I partitioned single HARD drive of my laptop in 2 drives with the OS & apps on all my own files on another - it makes system one image breaks as they take less than half an hour to make and at the same time restore].
    • Restore points disappear over time to make room for new ones to make.
    • Nothing can create a subsequent restore point - point restoration, you saw after that install the new update agent was probably made at the beginning of its installation so using this restore point could have set up your computer to the State it was in before to install the new update agent.
    • Restore failed, I don't know what state the computer is now so I think that you need to install the new update agent once again.
    • I think that restore points are supposed to not do anything if they cannot complete successfully, but I don't know if this is what is happening in practice.

Installation of the new update agent -

I think you need to install it once more to make sure that all its components are installed correctly.

The disappearance of the red shield looks like progress [but I am still concerned that the restore attempt point can or could not have].

    Factory restore -

Where you see references to Restoring factory that has nothing to do with the restore points or WU - "there's still a State factory 2010 option.

    • All computer manufacturers who provide computers with Windows preinstalled must provide a way to reinstall Windows.  Some achieve this goal by providing a reinstallation DVD while others do so by creating a factory restore on the HARD disk that is used partition to reinstall the entire computer from scratch - it reinstalls Windows as it was when you bought the computer but they can omit some of their own utilities to the restore factory image [, so it can be disappointing].
    • A factory restore partition is, indeed, a recessed installation disc.  So it you would set to 2010 and you need to reinstall all your applications.  I think you'd be worse off are you now to the extent where updates to go [you would reach a State before SP1 you might even think of the rollup update].
    • The factory restore partition is almost always on a non-Windows partition [a portion of the drive that Windows doesn't know anything about] If chkdsk would not reveal any useful information.
    • If, but I do not recommend, you wanted to restore factory , then you must follow the procedure in the manual of the computer & on the website of the manufacturer of the computer.

    Corrupt applications -

    • You may have to reinstall these in light of what you have already written.
    • As seems inevitable, installing Windows 10 becomes a possible alternative - if you can solve the current problems without having to reinstall applications and then install Windows 10 seems to me too much extra work.

The Mute light & hardware drivers -

This could be a problem with a hardware driver or utility of the machine to a computer.

    • Control of such things as lights Mute tends to be through drivers installed by the manufacturer of the computer so reinstall those who could solve this problem.
    • I expect to find the right driver on the website of the manufacturer of the computer, but, being a non-standard element, I'm only guessing when I suggested that it might be the keyboard driver.
    • On Dell such light would probably be a Dell QuickSet utility function, rather than a keyboard driver, which may also be the case with other computers.
    • If you have installed Windows 10, you would have to do a general review and search for hardware drivers, even if most of them will be detected by & installed by the installation process itself or the original WU that you then run.

    Good luck

  • Satellite P840 - impossible to restore the image of the system from 8.1 to win

I have laptop Toshiba P840 accompanying windows 8.0.
I created backups of DVD and USB

After upgrade to 8.1 windows and backup images, I had a software problem and had to go back to a previous return in windows 8.1.

Restore from the external HARD drive fails due to driver incompatibilities.
Technical support advise to restore windows 8.0 and then switch again to windows 8.1
Is there a better way to restore the windows 8.1 image?

Is it possible to fill the boot usb (from windows 8 as the original) to 8.1 windows drivers?
I am unable to create boot usb with windows 8.1 as the partition of hard drive has windows 8.0

    Thank you

Modification of the original recovery image is not possible then I agree with technical support. For your new and clean OS installation should be the basic recovery image so install it again and then do the update for new Win8.1.

Everything you can do in the future is to create the own Win8.1, but for this recovery image, you use some third-party software of the part.

    I have an Acer Aspire E1-571-6856, Windows 7 64 - bit, 4 GB RAM, 2.6 ghz core i5, 4000 hd graphics card

There is no option to restore from Acer although backup recovery image.

I don't think that you can load your restore with Acer erecovery media point, since normally is used to re - install from scratch the BONE.

You must create your own media recovery with the same software that you created in the backup image, which will no doubt help to load the backup image.

  • Restore failed image because of the message error "system cannot find the specified file (0 x 80070002). Is my file of the backup OK folder structure?

I had to reinstall clean Windows 7 64-bit because of the failure of the RAID 1. I have a picture of my original installation system, but I can't restore it; everything I try, I get the message "system cannot find the specified file (0 x 80070002).  I work through a number of possible solutions, without success so far.

According to the kb/951002 (that is for Vista but I can't find an alternative for Win 7) I made sure that the SYSTEM account has read permission for the backup folders and subfolders.  However, the file structure of the specified in the above article backup folder is different from my image file structure.  Specifically, article specified a structure of 'N.zip' file for the backup files but mine are a mixture of XML documents and VHD - i.e. no "zip" files Also, my GlobalCatalog file does not what kind of file, for example, it wouldn't ".wbcat" required file type specified in the article.

The differences above could explain the inability to restore the image and if so, any ideas on what to do about it?

  • Cannot repair the photo library. The best way to restore from iCloud library?

The photo library of the system is damaged and cannot be repaired.

It is said "Photos has attempted to repair the library"Pictures Library 2015 ", but can not open it." .

I first met problems with this library a week before and at the time where I could repair and open the library successfully, but lacked a month value of photos.

Given that it was successfully in the iCloud library, I left it to re - sync - but this process suspended several times before the end, and the photo library of the system now seems to be permanently damaged.

I have no project of marked or impression of faces in the photo library of the system, then I would be happy just to restore from iCloud.

My plan is to put in place a new - empty - library and then that designate the library of the system.

If I understand this right, the new (empty) system Photo library will now resynchronize with iCloud and will copy all the contents of this library of back to my Mac.

Is this correct? It is the most effective way to restore my library?

And while I'm here - what is the best way to manage a very large library? I had my photo library become corrupted ten three or four times over the past years and have found it necessary to divide into single years to prevent this. I overlooked this piece of household by the end of 2015, and now it's happened again... Surely, there must be an easier way to manage libraries of images of several years?

Is this correct? It is the most effective way to restore my library?

Yes, if you don't have a useful upward on your Mac.

How do you call a large library, I've never had a corrupt Library, I think that your problems are not the result of the size of the library, but rather something else. From my experience it is recommended to maintain a local upward, I use Time machine, but also have a second to the top using a third-party backup solution.

  • How to restore from a backup after creating a new Raid 0?

OK so I have time machines of my old hard drive, installed my new and raid 0' ed them. Now I Steelworkers my bootable thumbdtive (who was be Yosemite) to start my el capitan backup and it crashes at the end. After the restoration, the computer stops and recharge, but then crashes to the screen with the apple logo. Someone knows the right way that I should be restore? I tried just do a plain redownliad of my bootable disk but it says it did not work and may have been corrupted. I tried deleti g and recreate my raid 0, the same message... Looks like that because raid 0 for Mac will not create a recovery partition, I do a recovery Internet now just to recharge the mac from scratch... Any ideas on how I should address?

    Hi Isakale,

I understand that you're having trouble for OS X installed and restored from your Time Machine backup. In a situation where you work with a configuration of non standard volume for your OS X installation, you can consider installing OS X of the recovery of the Internet, the upgrade to the desired version of Mac OS X via the App Store, then your Time Machine data migration using the Migration Wizard, rather than recovery.

Migration Wizard copies all your files to your new Mac so that you do not have to the do it manually. If your files are currently on a Windows PC, follow the steps in the migration of the PC instead. If your new Mac uses OS X Mountain Lion or earlier, follow the steps of Mountain Lion instead.

Recent Macs include the ability to run directly from a Web OS X Recovery version. Your Mac will automatically use this feature when the recovery on the startup disk system is not available. For example, if your boot drive is a problem, or if your boot drive has been replaced or deleted. Recovery of the Internet allows you to start your Mac directly from Apple servers. This system starts running a quick test of your memory and the hard disk to check for hardware problems.

Recovery of the Internet initially asking you to select a Wi - Fi network and enter a password for the network if necessary. Then Internet recovery downloads and starts from a system recovery image. From there on, offers the same options and utilities like system recovery on a startup disk.

Some Mac shipped with OS X Snow Leopard can use Internet after installation of OS X Lion or later and a software update.

  • Satellite Pro C660-239 - restore from recovery media error

    Hello!

I have a laptop from a client, it is a Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-239, and I'm having a strange problem.

The original hard drive failed, and as the laptop is out of warranty, we bought a new hard drive and ordered the recovery media to this model, our assistance to repair local toshiba.

After the installation copied the files on the disk, the imageX command fails when you restore the image with error files:

"the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."

The hard drive is new, and I also tried with more than 2 hard drives, as well as with an external cd-rom drive.

I spoke with the support of assistance local repair, and told me that this happens because the ins new ' t compatible with the recovery media hard drive?

One of the new disks hard I tried, was the exact same model as the original hard disk, and the error persists, so the hard drive may not be the problem.

Y does it have that no change in the recovery media is corrupt?

Could also be a motherboard problem?

    Thank you

    > Is there any change in the recovery media is corrupt?
    Of course, this is possible.
In case the HARD disk is OK, the recovery media may be damaged.

    > Could also be a motherboard problem?
I don t think so. I imagine that the HARD drive is recognized correctly in the BIOS and the error message says something about corrupt directory. I guess the disk directory that is the meaning and I think that the media should be replaced.

  • Cannot restore the image of the external drive

I got a bolt of lightning and the factory hard drive needs to be replaced. I created a DVD boot disk and a current backup system on a USB external drive. Everything goes as planned; I boot on the DVD, Windows loads the files and the cranks Recovery Manager. I go through the guests to restore from system image, that I created earlier and the Manager believes the USB image. All is well until the system tries to install the image and then I get an error: failed to restore of system image. There is no drive that can be used to recover the system.

The new drive is 500 GB, the old is 650 GB. Is the small size of disc the question?

I caught a 1 to, a disc, which annoyingly I wants to go to the origin but rather picked up a 500 GB and the restoration seeks to advance. It has at least not out crapped on the date and is trying to restore the image to the new drive. With the fast error when restoring to the 500 GB drive, it seems the image was to remember the size of the partition and reluctant.

    Here is the explanation:

ORA-01152: file string has not been restored from a sufficiently old backup

Cause: An incomplete recovery session was launched, but an insufficient number of logs have been applied to standardize the data base. This file is always in the future than the last applied log. The most likely cause of this error is forgetting to restore the file from a backup before proceeding with an incomplete recovery.

Action: Apply more marbles until data is coherent or restore the database from a previous backup and recovery of repeat file.
