Restore from a backup of Windows Image

Hello. My laptop crashed due to a hard drive failure. I bought a new HD that I want to re - ask a Windows Image backup. But I don't have a Windows 7 bootable recovery CD because the OS came preinstalled on the computer when I bought it. (I remember to create a recovery disk, but I can't find). However, I recently bought a new computer with Windows 10. Is it possible to create a bootable recovery disk Windows 10 in order to restore my old Windows 7 OS on the new HD in my old computer? If so, what is the procedure?

Thanks a lot for your suggestions.

Robert,

Restore points - I found them little reliable so I stopped using them.

  • I trust instead of images of the system [I partitioned single HARD drive of my laptop in 2 drives with the OS & apps on all my own files on another - it makes system one image breaks as they take less than half an hour to make and at the same time restore].
  • Restore points disappear over time to make room for new ones to make.
  • Nothing can create a subsequent restore point - point restoration, you saw after that install the new update agent was probably made at the beginning of its installation so using this restore point could have set up your computer to the State it was in before to install the new update agent.
  • Restore failed, I don't know what state the computer is now so I think that you need to install the new update agent once again.
  • I think that restore points are supposed to not do anything if they cannot complete successfully, but I don't know if this is what is happening in practice.

Installation of the new update agent -

I think you need to install it once more to make sure that all its components are installed correctly.

The disappearance of the red shield looks like progress [but I am still concerned that the restore attempt point can or could not have].

Factory restore -

Where you see references to Restoring factory that has nothing to do with the restore points or WU - "there's still a State factory 2010 option.

  • All computer manufacturers who provide computers with Windows preinstalled must provide a way to reinstall Windows.  Some achieve this goal by providing a reinstallation DVD while others do so by creating a factory restore on the HARD disk that is used partition to reinstall the entire computer from scratch - it reinstalls Windows as it was when you bought the computer but they can omit some of their own utilities to the restore factory image [, so it can be disappointing].
  • A factory restore partition is, indeed, a recessed installation disc.  So it you would set to 2010 and you need to reinstall all your applications.  I think you'd be worse off are you now to the extent where updates to go [you would reach a State before SP1 you might even think of the rollup update].
  • The factory restore partition is almost always on a non-Windows partition [a portion of the drive that Windows doesn't know anything about] If chkdsk would not reveal any useful information.
  • If, but I do not recommend, you wanted to restore factory , then you must follow the procedure in the manual of the computer & on the website of the manufacturer of the computer.

Corrupt applications -

  • You may have to reinstall these in light of what you have already written.
  • As seems inevitable, installing Windows 10 becomes a possible alternative - if you can solve the current problems without having to reinstall applications and then install Windows 10 seems to me too much extra work.

The Mute light & hardware drivers -

This could be a problem with a hardware driver or utility of the machine to a computer.

  • Control of such things as lights Mute tends to be through drivers installed by the manufacturer of the computer so reinstall those who could solve this problem.
  • I expect to find the right driver on the website of the manufacturer of the computer, but, being a non-standard element, I'm only guessing when I suggested that it might be the keyboard driver.
  • On Dell such light would probably be a Dell QuickSet utility function, rather than a keyboard driver, which may also be the case with other computers.
  • If you have installed Windows 10, you would have to do a general review and search for hardware drivers, even if most of them will be detected by & installed by the installation process itself or the original WU that you then run.

Good luck

Denis

  • Cannot restore from a backup

I cannot restore from a backup and don't know why.

I have a Crucial SSD of BX100 in my mid 2010 MacBook Pro. It is divided into two partitions. I got Snow Leopard on a partition and Yosemite on the other. For some reason any I've never understood the Snow Leopard guarded beachballing partition. This happened if often that I decided to wipe the disk and reinstall from my backup, do it before the beachballing began to occur.

But I can't restore. I wiped the drive of a Snow Leopard system, repaired and reformatted. The drive is not Core Storage, this is Mac OS extended (journaled). When I try to restore the restore on it works for about two minutes and then stops. Finally, I get a message saying that the disc has been ejected incorrectly.

I noticed that when I receive information on the drive, an element appears different from other readers and which corresponds to the element, owners enabled: no each other drive I've seen says owners enabled: Yes. Is it all just because there is no system on the partition?

Also "ignore ownership on this Volume" must be checked or unchecked?

Suggestions welcomed, I am baffled by this.

    Snow Leopard erase and install

    1. Insert the Snow Leopard DVD in the optical drive and restart the computer.
    2. Immediately after hearing the chime hold down the C key.
    3. Release the button when the Apple logo appears and wait for loading to complete.
    4. After the installer loads, choose your language and click on the continue button. When the menu bar appears select utility drive in the Utilities menu.  After disk utility charges select the entry out-bumpy in the list aside (mfgr. size ID and disc drive.)  In the right side of the disk utility window, click the Partition tab.  Set the number of sheets to (1) on the menu drop down. Click the Options button and select GUID, click on OK, the value of the Mac OS Extended journaled format type. Finally, click on the apply button.
    5. Once the format is complete, quit disk utility.  Continue with the installation of OS X and follow the directions.
    6. Once installation is complete, the computer will restart in the installation wizard. After completing the Setup Wizard, you will use a new installation of Snow Leopard. Open the software update and install updates recommended.
    7. If you plan to sell or to give to your remote computer, then proceed as follows: once you reformat your hard disk and reinstall Snow Leopard, the computer restarts with a welcome screen. To leave the Mac in a State OOTB (Out Of The Box), do not continue with the Setup program. Instead, press the command and Q keys to stop the computer. The installation wizard will guide you the new owner through the installation procedure, after that it turns on the computer.
    8. Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 v1.1 updated Combo. If necessary. It is not necessary if you are selling or giving your computer away.
  • How to restore from a backup

I was wondering how to restore files from automatic backup provided by windows vista Home premium.

Basically, I have a computer with 2 physical hard drives running windows vista Home premium.  I had backups automatic windows implemented non-system hard disk.  The system drive got accidentally erased.  I reinstalled windows vista Home premium on a new hard drive. However, I don't know how to restore the files that I had previously saved.  Could you link me to a tutorial or process step by step on how to proceed?
    Thank you

    Salvation Church,

You can restore backed up files lost, damaged, or accidentally modified versions. You can restore files individual, groups of files, or all files that you have saved.

    1. open the Center to backup and restore by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking system and Maintenance, and then click Backup Center and restoration.
    2. click on restore and then follow the steps.

  • Blue screen at the start of WinSrv2008r2 recovered from the backup of windows virtual machine image

    Hello

    At first, everything seems fine:

-to create the new virtual machine

-startup disc for instalation of Windows Server 2008 on this VM

-Select "Repair system" and point the backup image file (full backup - made with standard Windows backup tool)

    -system recovered successfully.

But then, when the system restart recovered fresh - start start Windows normally - and suddenly it is blue screen with the error 0x0000007b

IMHO, this first initiated boot of the recovered system trying to twist something in the special part of the disc and he cannot (because it's a virtual disk?)

Is it possible to recover the system windows image file system server to virtual classic?

Thanks in advance for all voice :-)

    Greetings,

    RA

    Welcome to the community,

the error message is related to the controller to start the virtual machine, which is different from the original system, and its drivers are not loaded in Windows. What you try, it is to use the free VMware Converter and run the option "Set up the Machine", which should inject the necessary drivers in the virtual machine. Before doing this, please make sure that the Windows 2008 virtual machine has the default "LSI Logic SAS' controller configured in its settings.

    Hi Isakale,

I understand that you're having trouble for OS X installed and restored from your Time Machine backup. In a situation where you work with a configuration of non standard volume for your OS X installation, you can consider installing OS X of the recovery of the Internet, the upgrade to the desired version of Mac OS X via the App Store, then your Time Machine data migration using the Migration Wizard, rather than recovery.

Migration Wizard copies all your files to your new Mac so that you do not have to the do it manually. If your files are currently on a Windows PC, follow the steps in the migration of the PC instead. If your new Mac uses OS X Mountain Lion or earlier, follow the steps of Mountain Lion instead.

Move your content to a new Mac
    https://support.Apple.com/en-us/HT204350

Recent Macs include the ability to run directly from a Web OS X Recovery version. Your Mac will automatically use this feature when the recovery on the startup disk system is not available. For example, if your boot drive is a problem, or if your boot drive has been replaced or deleted. Recovery of the Internet allows you to start your Mac directly from Apple servers. This system starts running a quick test of your memory and the hard disk to check for hardware problems.

Recovery of the Internet initially asking you to select a Wi - Fi network and enter a password for the network if necessary. Then Internet recovery downloads and starts from a system recovery image. From there on, offers the same options and utilities like system recovery on a startup disk.

Some Mac shipped with OS X Snow Leopard can use Internet after installation of OS X Lion or later and a software update.

If you want to reinstall the version of Mac OS X included with your Mac, store the command-Option-R at the start instead. This starts your Mac recovery of the Internet.

  • How can I backup files, and then restore from that backup AFTER reformatting?

in the past, I tried to restore files from a backup, I did just before reformatting. but when I tried to restore the files, the last backup information obviously wasn't there, so I could not restore the backup on my external hard drive files. I don't remember the exact message I got, but I think it went along the lines, "unable to find a current or previous backup for this computer. You might have changed hard drives or computers or devices to backup since your last backup, or files you want to restore are from another computer. ». Fortunately I saved stuff that was really helpless as my photos, music and game configs.

  • Help please... Replaced the hard drive of MBP, restored from TM, but the Windows XP virtual machine does not start

I replaced the 250 GB hard drive in my MacBook Pro early 2009 with a 500 GB drive, it the Mac OS extended (journaled) format and restored from my Time Machine backup.

Now when I try to start my Windows XP virtual machine (using Fusion 2.0.6... planning upgrade to 3.1.2 but wanted to validate all was well first), I get BSOD, even in safe mode.

I have my vm separately saved on a network drive data files based on things that I had read before, I do not think that TM backup of virtual machines. However, a friend with a similar setup with more knowledge I think because I could see my Windows XP vm VMWare listed under 'Documents' in Time Machine showing its full size, it has actually saved and there restore it. Apparently he has done this successfully before.

Should I have partitioned the hard drive? I don't think that my previous drive has been partitioned. Don't know what to do now.

    TIA!

    Katie

To be clear: you have restored VMs from the disk or network time Machine?  And if the network drive, what backup method you use?  (i.e.: have you just copied engine off the computer virtual package or not?)  Can you copy/restore the virtual machine to the network again drive?  What is a virtual machine that has the error, or other virtual machines have problems?

Time Machine backup correctly a virtual power off machine. But since Time Machine works automatically, you often will get not a consistent backup unless you do some tricks to make sure Time Machine backup only when you use a virtual machine.  (i.e.: turn on Time Machine only when you're done with the virtual machine.)  Thus, it is normally recommended to exclude the virtual machines from Time Machine and use another method to back up virtual machines.  Your friend is lucky or is only backup virtual machines powered off.

Should I have partitioned the hard drive? I don't think that my previous drive has been partitioned. Don't know what to do now.

The Mac player Paritioning is unnecessary unless you use Boot Camp or have required another for the partition.

  • You forgot to turn off pairing Apple Watch - I can restore from a backup of Icloud?

Hi, I have a 1st generation Apple Watch Sport 38mm.  Recently, I sold my 6 s Iphone in anticipation of the arrival of the Iphone 7.  In my haste, I forgot to turn off my Apple Watch match before sending it away.  I have been using a loaner phone while I was not able to restore from Icloud because it doesn't have enough memory so I have just set up as a new phone.  When I paired my watch with her that I had to reset as I was not able to select a backup (because it's not because I didn't have it odd).  I'm afraid now that I've lost all my previous data.  Do you know that if I can restore my Apple Watch from a backup to Icloud - I won't be able to try this until I get my new phone, but just pray that I can choose a backup for my watch from my phone when I put in place?  Thank you very much

    Hello

When you pair your watch with your new iPhone (after restoring your backup to iCloud), you can choose the option to restore from backup if he is offered throughout the entire upward:

Set up your Apple Watch - Apple Support

(There is no backup separate from your watch - it is part of your iPhone backup).

  • Restore from a backup

    Hello

I'm new to UCS and I currently see how to restore a Cluster FI from a full-State backup.

After that I have clear the configuration on both primary and secondary, I import the configuration of my file backup successfully.

But now, I wan´t to add the secondary FI. After start of the console configuration and answered to the question if I have wan´t at the END added to the cluster with Yes, nothing happens. She takes one our to complete the installation of the second home. It seems that there is a timer or something like that.

Is there any command that I can use on my primary FI to reconnect to the secondary or do restore much faster?

    Thanks for your help

    Hi Frank,.

You do well, the process to add a second FI after the restore of a backup can take time sometimes.

The last time I have made I've waited almost an hour without any message until finally complete the process. Unfortunately, there is no command to display a progress bar or status messages.
