  I have a Dell laptop under Windows Vista Premium. I got it for about three years, and he is upset enough ok tonight.   Hi Emma,

  This could be due to a virus on your computer.  Try to make a virus on your computer scan to check if your computer is infected.

  Try to disable or uninstall the extension "Ask Toolbar".

• CTRL + _ makes smaller browser window. How to make more big (take it back to the original size)?

  Well it was accidental. I was trying to SHIFT + _ italic Forum to chat I use and must have hit CTRL + _ rather... now my browser window is so small my typing looks like a caterpillar, crawl across the page. How do I make the window back to its original size? Tried SHIFT + CTRL + _ nothing works.

  Since the zoom, which forces a repaint, corrects the display at least temporarily, you can try to disable OMTC, a feature introduced in Firefox 33. Here's how:

  (1) in a new tab, type or paste Subject: config in the address bar and press ENTER. Click on the button promising to be careful.

  (2) in the search above the list box, type or paste the layers and make a pause so that the list is filtered

  (3) double-click the preference layers.offmainthreadcomposition.enabled to true to false

  Any difference?

  Note: I read in a bug report at the time that this change causes problems with the YouTube HTML5 player, if hardware acceleration is disabled, then you may also force the Flash on YouTube if you keep this setting.   If you run Firefox in permanent private browsing mode (don't remember the story) then you will not get the purple mask because all open windows are automatically in PB mode.

  COR - el... You are a genius! Thank heaven, a simple solution for me. I pushed the key F11 key before dinner... nothing. After dinner... refreshed & ready to attack again. I went to support via clicking on your email down... then clicked on site that you highlighted to see if I missed something. No, exactly as you explained. BUT I watched questions alongside your message of support to see if they shed any light. The last issue said a woman how to make something disappear... then told him to go see and bring things back. I was not sure but thought if I could get the F11 to work click on view and see if all there help.
  I have had no back arrows so had to move from one page of AOl email to support and again through windows I could switch and make it appear at the top. I pressed F11 hard and voila! The menu bar is back... so I went to see. And you know the answer... clicked on toolbars and the navigation toolbar was not selected! Clicked and I am in service again!

  It has nothing to do with svg, similar problems with png images.
  In earlier versions, height adjustment worked as a workaround, but no more in vesion 17.
  There are various problems like the one described in the net:
  for example Bug 282558 - sized image vanishes on browser resize.
  But I can't find any solution - and this bug is described in 2005!

  I was wrong, it was a problem with the svg format. I tried several other formats, each doing its own problems. I tried cleaning the svg with conversion tools code and finally manually with a Publisher - nothing works. GIF and jpg of other problems, so finally I have found a converter of images to http://www.files-conversion.com/, which produces an acceptable png format.

  I think that the rendering of images needs to be improved.

  AVAST has been, for me, a horror of virus protection. I bought the version of internet security (3 licenses) in order to protect the banking info - & today on my laptop at home I have innocently allowed him to update. Now, he installed something called SafeZone, that I can't seem to turn off. It turns on automatically several browser windows on top of my 13.0.1 Firefox (which I love) and in this case literally every 2 or 3 minutes... even by typing here he did it at least 3 times. At the office, I have to disable Avast so my printers do NOT work. I tried their tech support. No response to several requests. I tried to connect tonight & none of my passwords previous work. I found the original e-mail showing the confirmation of my purchase in March, but google can not show so I can copy and send it to them (somehow) - it is NOT my default browser. FIREFOX is my default. So, what can I do? Any ideas? It's terrible.

  Not your answer does NOT solve my problem. But thanks for your advice and I understand that this is not a Firefox problem. I registered and posted in the user forum - Avast has been nothing but a headache. I'll use the uninstall feature (I just got it on Taskmanager applications, but of course I can't remove process).
  Lucky (?) for me - I'm exec dir of non-profit and just bought Norton via TechSoup very cheap, so going to have Avast asap & install Norton. I just hope that is not the same thing.

  Okay, with IE, we have the possibility to increase or decrease the magnification by default browser window v v. Old eyes need enlarge 25% to view comfortably. 23 "monitor a magnifying side problem. But still, have been unable to find a similar option in Firefox.

• I get a double blue bar at the top of the browser window that makes certain commands fail.

  Start Firefox in Firefox to solve the issues in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions of the origin of the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > appearance/themes).

  Safe mode disables extensions in Firefox 4 and later versions, and disables hardware acceleration.

  • Tools > Options > advanced > General > Browsing: "use hardware acceleration when available.

  If disable hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

• Cannot open more than 1 browser Firefox

  My computer won't let me open more than 1 browser Firefox at the same time. If I close my browser Firefox 1 I can't reopen it unless I have use Windows Task Manager to END the process Firefox.exe. It seemed to start after I upgraded to a different program, but don't know if it's the cause... still a problem even after uninstalling this program and re - install Firefox twice. The Firefox on my Ironkey personal works great and Internet Explorer works fine. Firefox worked fine for over a year.
