How can I restore the desktop icon in the Quick Launch toolbar.

I don't know what is in one of the folders in the trash, but I DON'T want to restore the file to my desktop... I just want to see what it contains.
AFAIK, you can't display what is inside a folder to the trash. You could drag to the office, or even make slide to a flash drive and view the content. -

All my desktop icons have changed the red square Adobe Reader icon. I tried to click right to restore the icon but not successful.
