Restore Windows to an earlier date

My mother has been scammed by people saying they were from microsoft and that she had a virus on his computer.  They have connected via teamviewer.  If I restore the XP computer to a date prior to this, it will remove all that they can be installed on the computer?  I am concerned about keyloggers etc.

billybogs Council is good.

My advice would be to...

  1. Disconnect from the internet (Tower of router / wireless, responsible for the network to delete)
  2. Back up your data and make sure that you have the installation software CD for all of your necessary software
  3. Make sure you have the manufacturer recovery media, otherwise burn / get them before proceeding
  4. Wipe the hard drive completely, including the MBR, using something like DBAN or Killdisk
  5. Restore your system to support recovery of the manufacturer
  6. Re-install the software needed
  7. Restore your data

Even if it is not safe if you burn from a possibly distressed PC restore media. There is no guarantee that they have not altered the MBR (master boot record) is not part of the system restore procedure. These alterations of MBR used to reintroduce the malware after removal by all means including scanners and the restoration of the system.

Better than having to burn your own recovery media would get the same thing from the manufacturer and bear no matter what price is linked to this.

I want to use to restore the system to an earlier date. How do I do that?

    Hello

In order to restore the system to an earlier date, you must have a system that is created on your system to a previous restore point date. Press the Windows key + W, type System Restore in the search box. Results, click create a restore point. Now in the System Properties window, click on System Restore. Now you should be able to see the system restore point created earlier. So you can restore the system at this point.

  • Runtime error in Mozilla after restoring computer to an earlier date,

I recently had to restore my computer to an earlier date. In doing so, Firefox went from 38.0.1 to 37.0.2. Now, I get the error "cannot find Mozilla runtime. I am out, trying to find a way to fix it. I have quite a few bookmarks that I prefer not to lose. I thought I could import to Internet Explorer but not had any luck with either. Have no solution? Thank you. I am posting this on another computer where is the problem. This computer is running Windows 8.1.

Using the system restore can cause your installation of Firefox get corrupted because only the whitelist files are restored, so always be careful with the system restore function.

    • You may lose data in the profile Firefox as of .js and .ini files folder
    • You may need to reinstall the affected software

Do a clean reinstall and delete the program folder before Firefox to (re) install a new copy of the current version of Firefox.

If possible to uninstall your current version of Firefox to clean the Windows registry and settings in the security software.

    • Do NOT remove the "personal data" when you uninstall your current version of Firefox, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data such as bookmarks and passwords including data profiles created by other versions of Firefox.

Delete the program folder Firefox before installing newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

    • (32-bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    • (Windows 64 bit) "C:\Program Files (x 86) \Mozilla.

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and will not be affected by a uninstall and (re) install, but do NOT delete personal data when you uninstall Firefox which removes all Firefox profile folders and you lose your data.

  • I have Win XP and my system restore doesn't give me an option to reset to an earlier date. This option is not yet available in my file system

When I go to start, Control Panel, system and click on system restore, there is no option for me to use the system restore back to an earlier date. I downloaded WinZip and it said I had grown pilots. NA not have money to pay for the update of the driver of Winzip, so I went to intel and had updated the drivers. After that, my pages was ok, full screen. But this morning when I turned on my computer, my office is full screen, but all the fonts were tiny! Then when my screensaver is, there was black on both sides of the photos and the photos were more full-screen. Some were on the right, the left and come inn in the middle with black on both sides. I could hardly read my icons on the desktop. I went to view and enlarges the most important fonts. But I have nothing I couldn't even my Web pages to fill my screen. I removed the update of the driver of WinZip from the computer. So, I don't know if it's happening on the site of Intel or where I updated without updating the driver of WinZip?

I tried to use my system restore because WinZip Optimizet n did not check for outdated drivers, I never should have gone to Intel to update. My Internet Explorer opens full screen but the pages he pulls up is located in the middle of the screen and I can not develop full screen.

Is there anyway that I can get my system restore to open so that I can go back to an earlier date and have my computer back? All that is on the page for my system restore is: System Restore can track and reverse harmful to your computer changes: a box to check 'Turn off System Restore': disk space: and the State: (C): monitoring. That's all.

This means that a different password was in effect at this point, even if your daughter thinks otherwise. There are a lot of options built into Windows to help you out of this situation:
    • Log on to your account admin to spare, and then reset the password for your existing account (works only if you set up an alternative admin account).
    • Log in as administrator mode without failure, then reset the password for your existing account (the password is usually empty).
    • Insert your flash drive USB with the password key file (only works if you have taken the time to create such a key file).
    • Use the password indicator (only works if an indicator was created and if it's good enough to allow you to guess the password)
    • Check your paper files (works only if you threw down the password somewhere)
The most important point would be: run a machine without a spare admin account is about as risky to have a house key. Sooner or later, he is at risk for any number of reasons.

  • Restoration of Windows 8 at an earlier Date

Yesterday I played on a program called Train Simulator. What I did to change the display of the route, I was working on, in what is called the world editor. What I didn't realize is that when I changed the display of this way I'd do it for everyone else.

I looked around my laptop and found a restore option, but the thing is that you can go when you have created a restore date. On other laptops, I had there was this system where you had the option to open the system restore program and select a date in the calendar, which means you don't have to go through this stupid system to create your own restore date.
I was on Windows Live Chat, and they took me practically the same procedure when they asked if I could find another button of dining options, which I couldn't, they said that there is nothing they could do to help me.
I think there must be something I can do to restore the computer to an earlier date.

    2. What is the current state of the question?

In recent weeks, my system has started to degrade and slowly get worse, it seems like a virus. I've restored a few weeks back system and the level of degradation was not as bad... it seems like it was in the early stages of the virus. If I restore it at an early enough date, I can rid my computer of viruses?

You probably don't have a restore point fairly early, and even if you did, it can cause problems with the other stuff.

    See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306084

This article describes how to use the System Restore tool to restore your computer to a previous state. System Restore takes a "snapshot" of critical system files and some program files and the registry settings and stores this information as restore points. If your computer is not working properly, you can use these points to return Windows XP to a previous state when your computer was working properly restore. It can also change scripts, batch files, and other types of executable files on your computer.

    Hi wetmartinia,

    1. do you have security software installed on the computer?

    2. did you of recent changes on the computer?

    3. you receive an error with the message code?

    Method 1

In many cases software security installed on your computer may interfere with the process of restoration of the system on the computer.

I suggest that you disable the security software on the computer and then perform the system restore, check if it works.

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Method 2

If the previous step fails, then view the event logs to investigate System Restore service errors, post back with the details.

    (a) click Start, click run, type eventvwr.msc/s in the Open box, and then press ENTER.

    (b) click on the category System .

    (c) click the Source tab to sort by name, and then look for "sr" or "srservice." Double-click each of these services and then evaluate the event description for any indication of the cause of the problem.

  • If I restore the computer to an earlier date, it will restore my password expired?

I use Vista.  My main account on the computer (private) is also the administrator account.  The password has expired.  I saw a warning a week previously, but not once since and completely forgotten.  I can access the other user account, but not my main account Vista was preinstalled on the computer so I can't reinstall windows.  I thought to restore my computer to an earlier date (for example,), but do not know if that would restore my password expired or not.  Other solutions? Thanks for any help.  And Yes, once I return, I change the setting so that the password does not expire again or by using a password reset disk, all these nice options I foolishly ignored this time.  Thank you.

    Hello

Microsoft prohibits any help given in these Forums for you help bypass or "crack" passwords lost or forgotten.

Here's information from Microsoft, explaining that the policy:

    And this is the Information from Microsoft on the problems of passwords;

You will need to borrow a Microsoft DVD from a friend, Recovery DVD a manufacturer without these special work options available.

If you are unable to connect to Windows 7 or Windows Vista, you can use the Windows Vista System Restore feature, or the Windows 7 system restore feature.

You may be unable to connect to Windows Vista or Windows 7 in the following scenarios:

    • Scenario 1: You recently set a new password for the protected administrator account. However, you don't remember the password.
    • Scenario 2: You type the correct password. However, Windows Vista or Windows 7 does not accept the password because the system is damaged.
    • Scenario 3: You delete a protected administrator account. Now, you cannot connect to another administrator account.
    • Scenario 4: You change an administrator account protected with a standard user account. Now, you cannot connect to another administrator account.

    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

    You can re - install.

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

And if you have never received a recovery disk when you bought your computer, there should be a recovery Partition on the hard drive to reinstall Vista on how you purchased your computer.

The recovery process can be started by pressing a particular combination of the key or keys at startup. (Power on / start)

    Maybe it's F10, F11, Alt + F10, etc., depending on the manufacturer.

Ask them to the proper key sequence.

    See you soon.

  • Restore my system to an earlier date

I have a Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit.  How it restore to a date when it was working better.  Should I go back back?

Yes, you can restore the PC to an earlier date. Please confirm with the colleague regarding the date and try to restore the PC to this date. If this fails, you can try an earlier date.
