Restoreing saved files

I had to restore windows 8 after windows has stopped working. I backed up my files to the e: / drive as part of the restore process. How to restore files backed up on the computer?

Hi Richard,

How have you tried to save the files? Have you used the file history or any third-party program?

If you used the file history, you can refer to the article to restore files or folders:

If the problem is not resolved, please provide more information to help you best.

Do you still have the MBP? If so you can manually copy and paste the files you need.

If you do not have the pro more, you need to buy a USB key and plug it into the MBA... use it as a target. Once you have a system file of the previous laptop again, you have to manually choose what to copy across.

  • I need help to restore a file that I saved on a CD? Just the basics will help you.

I have a skeleton of my Microsoft Money file on my hard drive.  I have my information saved on a floppy disk, but also a CD.  Just, I don't know how to restore the file and can not seem to find it anywhere.  Thank you.

Copy files from a CD-ROM to a hard drive

To copy files from a CD-ROM to a hard disk:

    1. If you already have a folder on your hard disk to contain the files from your CD-ROM, note the full path to your folder (for example, C:\Pictures, D:\Images, and so on) and proceed to step 2. If you do not have a folder for your files, create a new folder:

      1. Click Start, point to programs, and then click Windows Explorer.
      2. Click on the hard drive to contain the new folder. On the file menu, point to new, and then click folder.
      3. Type a descriptive name for your folder and press ENTER. For example, if you want to copy the image files on your hard drive, you can name the folder images, Images or another descriptive name. Note the full path to your folder (for example, C:\Pictures, D:\Images, and so on) and then close Windows Explorer.
    2. Click Start, point to programs, and then click MS-DOS prompt.
    3. At the command prompt, navigate to the CD-ROM drive, and then navigate to the folder that contains the files to be copied. For example, if you want to copy the files in the folder of the drivers on the Windows 98 CD-ROM and your CD-ROM drive is drive D, type the following commands, pressing ENTER after each command:
      d:
      cd\
      Drivers CD
    4. Copy the files from the source to the CD folder in the folder on your hard drive. To continue the previous example, if your source folder is the folder of the drivers on the Windows 98 CD-ROM, your CD-ROM drive is drive D and you want to copy files to the C:\Drivers folder, type the following commands, pressing ENTER after each command:
      Copy *. * c:\drivers

MY Windows Vista had to be restored on my computer.  I lost my e-mail folders that I had saved.  Is there anyway to restore these files?

Messages are stored as eml files.  Is there no eml files, then there is no message.  Check in the windows.old directory if there is one, because it may contain old data.  The location of the message in Vista store is c:\users\[username]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows mail, so you might check there.

  • I used the backup and restore of the backup C on pc. Then tried to open saved files with IE and started acting weird.

I used the backup and restore of the backup C on pc.  Then tried to open the files saved with IE.  IE went into free fall.  ???

I have no idea what opened the backup files when you have double-clicked, or if you will not quote you took after doing this...  However, the official way to 'Browse' the content of the backup...

You can view the contents of your backup by opening the wizard to restore files.

    1. Open backup and restore by clicking on the button start , clicking Control Panel, clicking system and Maintenance and then click Backup and restore.

    2. Do one of the following:

      • To view your files, click Restore my files.

      • To display files all the, click on restore files for all users. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    3. Do one of the following:

      • To browse the contents of the backup, click Browse for files or click Browse for folders.

When you browse folders, you will not be able to see the files in a folder. To view individual files, use her browse for files option.

      • To search the contents of the backup, click search, type all or part of a file name, and then click search.

    (not a replacement of relief.)

With regard to the rate of success vs. failure rate of backup - it is difficult to measure.  Indeed most of the people backs up incorrectly.  It's really * not * enough to set a backup and forget about it.  If you test ever that your backups work/glance to see if you are backing up the good thing - it's just not wise.  Although most people expect that it is essential that the backups were working properly (not a test, a real emergency) to be discovered.  Most individuals who report failures, unfortunately, fall into this category "when my aircraft crashed and I went to my backups - it turns out _ backup _ does not and never told me...» ».

A question... If you manually create a ZIP file (not a backup) - can you still Explorer in it as a folder?

To test... Create a folder on your desktop.  Copy some files into it - of different types.  I say COPY and not MOVE on the goal here - because you can just blow this folder and all that results from this folder later if it was all fair copies of things.

Make a right click on this folder and choose "send to" and "compress (ZIP) file and give a name to the new 'folder '.  (It's really a file.)  On your desktop, you should have the original folder you created and copied some stuff in, and a new "folder" with the name you just gave.  If you open the 'new' folder - you should see the name of the folder that is still on the desktop and go to this folder, you should see the files.  You literally use Windows Vista to the 'discovery' inside a ZIP file as if it were a folder.

  • Impossible to restore a file from Time Machine

I messed up a data file and tried to restore from Time Machine. It produces the message "the operation cannot be performed because you have not granted access to the Finances of 2016 VDJS. I use an iMac 2009 beginning running OS 10.8.5. I checked permissions, and since I'm the only person using this computer all read - write permission. The version of the file I am trying to use to replace the messed up one was recorded only a few days ago and should have the same permissions. I apparently can't use disk utility to verify or repair permissions on the time Machine if the problem is with the saved file. I have another backup using DropBox, but I organized "intelligently" so that it records the changes made to the files they are saved on the computer, if the vehicle has currently the messed registered version. Hello

Insert the DVD1 backup in the CD/DVD drive. Click Start-> computer-right click on the CD/DVD drive online, click Explore. It shows Recovery Manager (Application settings and two files) and a few files with. WIM extension.

Double-click the file Recovery Manager (Application), it begins to restore the files for the user accounts.

You need to search for files to find their exact location (start-> search, looking for Images, type. (JPG).

  • How to start other backup sets using Vista Hm Prem backup and restore correct files list

I use the bkup & restore functionality premium Vista Hm to bkup my pc data and programs for a Seagate ext HDD. It seemed to work fine with XP; now, I don't know. Here's a glimpse of what I shot of Microsoft & other sources on the operation of the backup process.

When you start a bkup 'set' is created in a folder on the external HARD disk or other medium with a complete bkup of selected disks, partitions, etc. The following bkups are incremental files rather than full new copies, but these files are added to the original folder.

Later, if you wish, you can create additional bkup sets by a new complete bkup that will be created in a new folder. The following incremental update for any complete bkups additional files will be saved in the parent folder. After starting an another full bkup, prior bkup overall is "sealed" or closed, so to speak; He will not receive any updates. Each set of bkup is assigned a unique name that includes full creation date bkup & times. I read in several places that you can REMOVE bkup sets simply deleting records set bkup on the ext HDD when using this device. My understanding is correct?

    • How do you start a 2nd bkup located in a new folder of Vista & restore backup? The only way I found, (I did a year ago), is to change the specifications bkup (disks, partitions in the bkup) to force a new complete bkup. This isn't a useful way to do this when you care change the source data.
    • Delete-restore question: I noticed before I couldn't get a 2010 older file that was in an available according to Vista records restore; Error = not found backup file!  Recently, after reading more, I checked the folders on the drive HARD Seagate Ext in Windows Explorer and found only 2 whole bkup - earlier was dated 25/09/2011. I next went to the center of Vista backup & restore for a list of the bkups over 30 days that I had. There were about 35 cases bkup dated prior to the 25/09/2011, which dates back to June 2010. I then tried to restore some files (of the folders listed in the backup restore Center &, but does not appear on the Ext HDD). I got the same msg of error as before every time I tried. I think that I have can I have deleted a bkup set off the ext HDD a year or more ago that contains these older files. Why the Center backup restore & still displays them? How can I fix the table in the center of backup restore &?

    Thanks for the help!

The bkf files are specific to the Windows XP Backup program and may not be
    used in Windows 8.

Your only recourse is to find an XP system and to restore bkf files
He can use a third-party program to save them, so that they can be
restored using this program on Windows 8. Or instead of a third party
backup program, if you don't have too much data, you can simply be
able to copy them to a CD, DVD or thumb drive so they can be copied
    the machine to Windows 8.

  • Cannot restore the files from hard drive damaged in disk utility

    Questions

    1. can I save my files/fix this problem without having to restore via disk utility?

    2. What am I doing wrong / I can do to restore correctly on an external hard drive via disk utility?

    Background

Last week when I turned my MacBook Pro 2012 I got stuck on the gray login screen. The progress bar moves very, very slowly and when he finished my laptop spontaneously restarted and repeated the same thing over and over again. Here's what I tried to do so far:

-Start in SafeMode: does not work

-Extended Apple Diagnostics/Apple Hardware Test: test results: no problem found

-Utility (recovery and valorisation of the Internet) disk: disk hard Mac (Apple HDD) and Recovery (partition) HD are not damaged, but the partition disk0s2 is (created after a failure; a year not logged - if it matters) and in 'check' and 'fix' the latter I get inconsistent error messages.

    Disk utility error messages

Most often, I get this error:

The volume disk0s2 was found damaged and must be repaired. Error: This disc needs to be repaired. Click on the ERD.

    Stopped disk utility check "disk0s2."

Disk0s2 volume could not be repaired after 3 attempts.

Error: Disk utility can't repair the disk. Save as many files as possible, reformat the drive and restore your files packed around the top.

I also received this error message once:

Wrong number of extended attributes (it should be 730585 instead of 730589)

Wrong number of access control lists (there are 1364 instead of 1368)

Save the files to external hard drive?

Before that I didn't even used/accessed Time Machine.  I have a new HDD external, formatted for Mac. I created two partitions: backup and Time Machine (so I can start using it once I have find this current issue). When I try to restore disk0s2 external hard disk I get an error restore failed (252 or 254, I think).

When you drive is damaged, it is extremely difficult to make progress.

I recommend the lessee a spare drive in an external enclosure and install MacOS on it again. Then boot from that and you are back in business. You can use the full power of Mac OS AND additional utilities to recover your files.

More 350 000 files on your damaged disc are Mac OS - and those that can be installed in replicas of prefect by a new installation on a new drive. You can't Brute force 'all' copy of a damaged disc. What you want back damaged drive is not Mac OS X files - you want YOUR files. They are stored in the Directory/users in a folder with your short user name. with additional utilities, you can simply copy this directory, or use a recovery as data rescue program to get individual files.
