Restoring factory EliteBook 8730w (Mobile Workstation)

Anyone know if there is a recovery on the 8730w default partition?

I have a machine to a dismissed employee, nobody knows the user login, there doesn't seem to be an admin user, the hard drive has a special native mode SATA driver so that I can not start with a brick it emergency linux boot disk... no user is "with HP SpareKey" (whatever that is or has been).

F11 does not start on a factory restore partition and there is no option to boot for the restoration of the factory menu (press ESC at startup and the options are: F1 - Information System;) F2 - Diagnostics; F3 - Insider Intel CIRA - what of * that *?; F7 - HP SpareKey; F9 - device boot options; F12 - initialization of the network; Sign up - keep booting)

Quite sad, really

Please don't tell me that I need to find the disk supplied with the machine because that will not happen!

Chris

Hey, Chris:

Just order a new set of recovery disks by calling HP to 1-800-334-5144.  You will need to provide the model # and # of series.

It costs $10.

If F11 does not work, then the recovery partition is either missing, or faulty.

You can also make your own drive of W7 or Vista installation and reinstall this way if you can read the 25 product key MS Vista or W7 characters on the bottom of the laptop.

If you want to go this route, please let me know what OS you are running and give you directions to setup you need to do different procedures for Vista or W7.

To identify the network controller, you will need to provide the PCI\VEN hardware ID string as seen in the image of the example below.

Open the section of the network cards by clicking the trianngle on his left and then right click on the device you need the driver for. Select Properties to call the Properties window , as shown below.

Select the Details tab, and then use the drop-down arrow to select the material ID.

After the string of alphanumeric characters together here.

You can do the same for any device not already identified by your operating system.

  • 8570w HP EliteBook mobile workstation. Starting stalls.

My company uses HP laptops, and that the warranty is up, we change our laptops. My last two phones were EliteBook mobile workstations. Both have the same problem. My current EliteBook is a 8570w. Two laptops at home and at work, the appropriate docking station dock. Here's the question. If I have a USB device, as a recorder Sony handheld, connected to any of the USB ports, the boot stops at the 'stage of HP logo' and will not proceed until I disconnect the USB device. After starting, I can reconnect the USB device. It's annoying to have cross the disconnection - connect the process, I decided to find the source of the problem and fix it. The problem is that neither I nor anyone else seems to have the answer, but probably the Hang Up is in the BIOS. Is there a a way to solve this problem by making a correction in the BIOS. It seems strange that the boot sequence can not handle a 'active USB device' temporarily ignoring it. Is there a solution to this problem?

  • EliteBook 8730w: need help with reset password BIOS HP Elitebook 8730w

Dear community, I have a HP Elitebook 8730w and I forgot the BIOS password. I tried everything I could remember, I slept several days above to remind him, but I'm lost. I contacted HP support and they said that they would not help with a file of type smc.bin (which has been mentioned in many forums). No idea how to fix? I need to change the HARD disk but do not dare to do so that I can not configure the new HDD or SSD in BIOS.

Help would be appraciated. I do not directly post P/N and S/N, due to privacy regulations in this forum. But if anyone can help me, please send a message and I'll post all the necessary details.

I am a student and have small budget so I was willingly using this Elitebook old but fine. But now I'm really in trouble.

  • Toshiba A30 restore factory settings

pretty stupid question, but I need to restore factory settings, does anyone know how to do?
Ive tried the system restore forest and it goes back only to a certain point
I don't know what else to do?

    Hi Carolina,.

When you say 'Restore factory settings', do you mean that you want to restore your A30 to its original condition, with original OEM software installation etc. That you could do it using the recovery CD, but this will remove one of your own data and software as well as raw product updates that you can download.

Is it just that you have a problem with your system that may be corrected, rather than do a full restore?

  • HP EliteBook 8730w: replacement of SSD for the boot drive not recognized

I'm trying to install a Samsung SSD 840 EVO 500 GB instead of the original 500 GB HDD in my Elitebook 8730w (product no. VF889PA #ABG). The 8730w has the latest BIOS (F.20) installed and that is running Windows 7 Professional 32-bit (fully patched).

When it is connected to the laptop through a USB adapter, to clone the HARD disk image. the SSDS works correctly. Cloning through data Migration Samsung is reported as a success, and the image of the C:\ drive occupies approximately 153 GB. The image of the disc does not include the partition of 1 GB dedicated to HP_TOOLS, due to a known limit of the Samsung software supplied.

When it is installed in the HARD drive Bay. the SSD is not recognized as a drive and does not appear in the list of startup options. The available boot options only shown are the DVD or a network boot.

would be very grateful for any advice on the steps required to successfully install the Samsung SSD as boot drive.

    Hmmm.
Honestly no, I'm not happy with this one. If it was my machine, I'd be a little concerned about whats the corner of the street. In view of the age, is not surprising really, things wear out over time, the mere fact of electronics.

Search through everything you have posted, all photos, pdf, all the text double checking. I am absolutely puzzled as to what happened. If you 100% does not reinstall the hard disk between the posts above where no HARD drive is detected in the menu boot options for the post below that where the HARD drive is detected in the same menu. I would say that you have a problem with either, the ssd, the computer motherboard laptop or the small connector on the sata port, I think on these is integrated on the motherboard, so it seems that your advice is doubtful.
If his works now, great... but be aware that your machine can fail at some point in the near future. And it looks like a defect of the motherboard, other things are probably waiting to fail.

There is no reason whatsoever your laptop must not have seen this ssd at first startup. A HARD drive is a HARD disk, if its compatible sata, then it will work, no doubt. When he is not on an older machine, its probably a sign of a faulty component.

Looking through your bios options, I recommend the following.

On startup options, get rid of internal nic pxe boot, that will only slow your machine at startup as it will seek for a network bootable device. This is the message that you get at startup saying Media Test Failure, this page is preventable with this option disabled.
Less built lan/wlan switching on enabled in the options of the terminal, also change. This means that if you use wifi at home for example and you decide to plug in a cable network directly to the router to speed up the connection, it will not pass if it is not defined, you will have to do it manually. I work in a large company and the number of people who have this option is unreal. They all assume when they are docked they will on the wired connection.

Because we are here too, if you ever have problems with a flickering screen, first thing to try, is disable the ambient light sensor which is just below this option of switching. Its fine on normally, but its quite common on 8560p for this causes a flickering screen.

Hope that helped. Good luck in what you decide to do with the machine

  • HP EliteBook 8730w: new installation of Windows 7 on HP EliteBook 8730w?

Is it possible to do a fresh install of Windows 7 on HP EliteBook 8730w?

In other words, if my machine is not currently of any operating system installed, I can use a DVD to install Windows 7 directly or do I install Windows Vista first, before the upgrade to Windows 7?

    Hello:

If you have a lot of retail or oem drive of W7 installed and the corresponding product key, you need not to install vista first.

If you have a drive of W7 upgrade, then you must install vista first and then upgrade to W7 and select the custom (clean) installation option then enter the W7 upgrade product key.

If you upgrade a disk, there may be a way to install W7 without installing Vista first.

You can do a search on the internet for a few links that provide information about how to do this.  For example:

  • Satellite L350 - restore factory settings

    Hello

I have a L350 and have had problems with my keyboard, my laptop keep thinking that the control key is stuck. I found that when this happens my keyboard stops working properly, but if go into control panel--> change keyboard and just click on all (not to change anything just open & then close) it seems ok again for a while. I want to restore factory settings, but when I shut down or restart my keyboard no longer works, so I can't press the keys or value to boot from the disc. I tried to plug in a USB keyboard, but it's the same leading me to believe it's a software problem not hardware.

Back, someone knows what can do to solve this problem?

    Thank you

  • Restore factory settings

I want to restore my laptop to original settings. My laptop does not start the operating system. It restarts only to the point where I see the 'Vaio' logo

I can press F10 to use Recovery Wizard. But I don't have the recovery CD.

I wanted to know, can I still use F10 to restore my laptop to factory without these CD manufacturing settings. I really don't care about data on my laptop, if it erases everything that I want to just restore factory settings

    Hello

Thank you for your message. VAIO computers come with recovery software, present in a hidden partition and you can perform system recovery using the 'F10' key

Restart the computer, keep tapping F10 key, press button to start editing option, Recovery Wizard select start and click on ignore VAIO Care rescue (if you do not want to back up data) to start the system recovery process.

See the following link for detailed information:

Windows shows that it is capable of 64-bit.
Can I use "restore factory Rescue and Recovery" to perform the installation of win 7 64 bit?

Your recovery DVDs are listed here:

I guess if your recovery partition factory is win 7, 32 bit, it will restore win 7, 32 bit.

You can order the win7 64 bit DVD for about $50 US recovery.

  • AC adapter / CC / Elitebook 8730W-can I use 200W safely?

I have a laptop EliteBook 8730w. It comes with an external adapter Smart AC 120 watts to 150 watts.

A friend gave me a 200W power adapter replacement which was originally for the 8740w. It matches my 8730w but is it safe to use as it is of a higher power than the original?

I talked to HP Support and they advised its fine to use the adapter of 200W. Since they are intelligent adapters, they are made to reduce power regardless of the laptop needs. That is, if the laptop is peaks at 150 w or 90W then the adapter will only provide that much.
