Results of right click in Windows Explorer stopping

After you uninstall a program (with success, I was informed), I tried to right click on the name of the program in my Start menu programs to remove the name of the program.  When I right-click, I received a message that "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close."  The screen flashes once or twice, then I got a message saying "Windows restart", and I was back at my office.  What happened when I tried to click with the right button on the icons on the desktop, as well.  I contacted Norton about this problem a week ago, and after a remote support session, I was told that there was a problem in Norton, but that he was now fixed.  And, in fact, this stop-problem/specific response to right click on a desktop icon WAS set by Norton.  Unfortunately, when I try to right click on a program from start menu (to remove the name of an uninstalled program), I again get the message "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close".

Please help me understand what is happening here!  But no matter what help you may be able to give must be of a VERY basic and basic format, as I don't speak the "jargon", know VERY little about this computer or its operations and instructions step by step, or just need, I get lost!

Hi CommaD,

Thanks for posting in Microsoft Answers.

I suggest to the SFC scan on your computer and check if the problem is resolved.

The System File Checker (SFC) utility allows administrators to perform an analysis of all protected resources to make sure they are the correct version. Whether SFC should find all incorrect versions in one of these protected resources, SFC will be replaced by the correct versions.

You can still run a SFC scan on the windows vista computer. To run a scan suite SFC as follows:

1. click on start and in the start search bar type cmd, right-click on the command prompt icon in the box programs and then click Run as administrator.

2. at the command prompt, type sfc/scannow , and then press ENTER.

Check whether the problem is resolved

Hope this information helps you.

Kind regards

  • whenever I right click on the folder from the library, windows Explorer stops

I got malfunction lately where almost every time I did a right click on a folder in Windows Explorer, Windows Explorer stops and restarts.  Even the taskbar shuts off and needs to restart.

My computer has also been "stuttering" a lot lately, where when I start a program window may flash on and out once before, is really happening, or when the computer has been asleep for a while and it is restarted and all the programs I use, the window starts to blink; He will disappear for a few seconds and then reappear.  Usually only once.

I also note that my measure of system reliability monitor took a dive from an average of a 6 fight at an average of 2 a couple of days.  It seems that an attempt was made to update my adobe reader software and this attempt failed and he was about 2, and I had this problem since.

I ran the troubleshooting, maintenance of the system and 'check solutions', from the center of the Action, without significant results.

I would point out, this problem is solved for me, and I forgot what I did, if anything.  I think I'm doing nothing in particular; I think it is just resolved with reboot and repeated use.

I actually clean out some elements of the configuration of my departure, as mentioned above.

My system reliability is up around four, now.

  • "Windows Explorer" stops working in Windows Photo Gallery

When I'm working with pictures in Windows Photo Gallery on my computer Vista laptop, 9 times out of 10 if I click tab to organize to try to drop his menu, a "ghost" of the tab appears just below and the system hangs.  It comes up with an error message window saying something to the effect that Windows Explorer has stopped working.  If I just right click on an image, a menu appears with the options similar to what I expect of the tab organize, and I can easily do what I must.  But try to let fall the tab menu organize sends the computer behind closed doors, and I have to Ctrl-Alt-Del to start.  This has been a problem for years, and I myself remember well I even tried reinstalling everything once without any positive result.

The steps that I want to tell you is not worth with vista

Try to use the System File Checker to scan your operating system for missing/corrupt files, perform the following steps:
    1. start and type cmd in the box start the search.
    2. in the area of results, right-click cmd.exe, and then click Run as administrator. You will be asked to type the password for an administrator account. If you are the administrator or type the administrator password, click on continue. Then click on continue.
    3. at the command prompt, type Sfc/scannow, and then press ENTER.

The analysis may take some time, so be patient. Windows allows to fix corrupt or missing files it finds. If the information of the installation CD is required to fix the problem, you may be asked to insert your Windows Vista CD.

Hope this helps you. Let us know anyway. Make it a great day!

While downloading Itunes on my laptop right before you start to install, I get a message saying that windows Explorer stops because the prevention of execution of data has stopped installation.  Is there any solution for this?  I'd like to install itunes on my laptop.

    Hi Steve681229,

Thank you for using the Microsoft Answers forum.  Here's what worked for someone else.  Thanks Kevin

    Hi thrivenformore,

Please use the forum for Support of Vista,

You could try to add iTunes to the DEP exception list.  However, this behavior is not normal.  Go to the support forum of Apple for iTunes for Windows, search on DEP.  There should be a thread "How can I turn off DEP for iTunes?" or it Prevet planting iTunes? "which provide troubleshooting steps you might want to try before adding it to the list of exceptions."

How to add the program to the DEP exception list:

    1. Press Start, right click on computer and select Properties.
    2. in the window that appears, click Advanced (on the left panel) system settings.
    3. in the first box that says Performance, click on the settings button.
    4. in the window that opens, click the Data Execution Prevention tab at the top.
    5. There should be a box of exceptions in the middle of this window. Click the Add button and navigate to the C: drive, then Program Files, then the iTunes folder, and then choose the iTunes exe.
    6. Add the exception, and then click OK in the window of the DEP.

    Hope this helps, Kevin

Vista and Windows 7 updated drivers love then here's how update the most important.

This is my generic how updates of appropriate driver:

This utility, it is easy see which versions are loaded:

-Free - DriverView utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system.
For each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver,
Description, version, product name, company that created the driver and more.
    http://www.NirSoft.NET/utils/DriverView.html

For drivers, visit manufacturer of emergency system and of the manufacturer of the device that are the most common.
Control Panel - device - Graphics Manager - note the brand and complete model
your video card - double - tab of the driver - write version information. Now, click on update
Driver (this can do nothing as MS is far behind the certification of drivers) - then right-click.
Uninstall - REBOOT it will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat this for network - card (NIC), Wifi network, sound, mouse, and keyboard if 3rd party
with their own software and drivers and all other main drivers that you have.

Now in the system manufacturer (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) site (in a restaurant), peripheral
Site of the manufacturer (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, for example) and get their latest versions. (Look for
BIOS, Chipset and software updates on the site of the manufacturer of the system here.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after
    each installation.

Always check in the Device Manager - drivers tab to be sure the version you actually install
presents itself. This is because some restore drivers before the most recent is installed (sound card drivers
in particular that) so to install a driver - reboot - check that it is installed and repeat as
    necessary.

Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW in the DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER device - check
    manually by model.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

  • Opening the files in the right pane of Windows Explorer

For the last two weeks, when I double click on a folder in the right pane of Windows Explorer, a video look at an application tries to load the file instead of just opening the folder.  I looked at the files Types tab in the tools, Options menu, without a bit of luck and I watched the application tries to load and find nothing has.  I think it started after an automatic Windows Update (although I have that turned off, it still works, of course).

To see what is going to happen, I uninstalled the video look at an application to ensure that nothing in putting in place this program which has been the problem and now a Windows Search window opens when you double-click on any given folder!

  • Windows Explorer stops working at random times while browsing files.

Windows Explorer stops working at random times while browsing files. I tried to fix this by doing a start-up in minimal mode, but without any result.
It all started with a similar problem, Explorer windows stops working at first upward and restarts and stops working again and restarts again and keeps it doing. I've tried several things like do a clean boot, by safe mode, but even there it happened the same thing but this time, stop once and restart it once, and then it worked normally. When I started windows normally, it did the same thing, so I tried and inplace upgrade and did not work, so finally I did a cover, but only on the first partition, which is the operating system, now I have this problem, Explorer stops working at random times while browsing the folders, it restarts, but then the same thing happens.
Please help me I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and sorry for my bad English.

    Hello
I tried your methods, but still did not work. In the meantime, I did a full restore to two partitions, and it worked. I guess the problem was I uninstalled a few unwanted games, which came with the pc and the anti-virus of the trial.

  • Equium A210 - Windows Explorer stops working

I have a laptop Equium A210. Why does windows Explorer stop working and restart all the time?

    > Why windows Explorer does not work and restart all the time
    Who knows?  :|

Maybe you have messed your OS and now OS doesn't function properly.
Have you tried to restore the operating system from the recovery CD?

If this isn't the case, then do it. The whole HARD drive will be formatted and the recovery CD to install the image of Toshiba which contains the OS, driver, utility and software tools extra.

    This should help.
