I got the hard drive from my old computer and am trying to transfer my old files to it, but I'm not sure where to find the old bookmarks files. It would be wonderful if you could also help to recover the history - I was in the habit of keeping a large number of tabs open and simply restore everytime I restarted my computer, so a lot of data was lost when my computer crashed.
Hello
If the backup files are intact, then you would be able to copy the files required in the backup after installing Firefox and it works at least once in the new PC.
You must copy and overwrite the files needed from the old profile folder in the same folder structure in the new profile. Some important files might be places.sqlite who holds the bookmarks and history, the cert8.db that stores personal and other certificates, signons3.txt + signons.sqlite that stores websites registered names to user/passwords etc. To open the profile folder, in Firefox, help (Alt + H) > troubleshooting information > Open the containing folder and the release of Firefox.

I get a new mac next month and will probably be to transfer all my docs, photos, settings etc using the method in this article. I was wondering if, when data are transferred to the new computer, if it is removed from the old computer? I had problems the past with back ups and updates goes wrong and I fear that I will lose all my data by mistake in the transfer.
Lol the original data remains on the old computer, but don't forget to save the new computer as soon as you can.

How to import playlists in itunes from my old computer or an iPod nano?
Recently bought a new PC. Managed to transfer my music library to the new PC from the old PC. However... the playlists are not present in iTunes on the new PC. They are still present on my iPod Nano and iTunes on the old PC. Any help is greatly appreciated!
See Re: How can I move iTunes from my old computer to my new computer? or recover your iTunes from your iPod or an iOS device. I recommend you move the original library correctly. There is a script of recovery playlist listed towards the end of the second link.

new computer how to do everything from my old computer to my new computer
You can transfer files and settings with Windows XP files and the transfer settings Wizard, but you can not transfer the programs installed using any method whatsoever - you will need to reinstall these programs. If your new computer is not Windows XP but Windows 7 then use the program Windows Easy Transfer, included in Windows 7 rather than the files and Settings Transfer Wizard.

Original title: Easy Transfer password XP to Windows 7.
I try to use Easy Transfer to move files from my old computer to new computer (XP to Windows 7). I didn't have a password on my old computer, but cannot transfer to the new without one. I tried every password I never used (caps on and outside), as well as the code given at the beginning of the Easy Transfer, but nothing works. What can I do? (I use an external hard drive)
Hello
If I'm wrong, please let us know why, but my assumptions that are
- Your old XP machine is usable
- It still allows to log
- There is no password required when you don't sign
So you can try this...
- Click Start
- Click on Control Panel
- Click on user accounts
- Give your XP logon password
- Restart your XP machine
- Try Easy Transfer and him give the password that you set in step 4

hard drive from my old computer
I removed the hard drive from my old computer and installed in a connected hard drive USB enclosure but when I try to access the files of data (graphics, for the most part), I don't see them on the hard drive. Both are running Windows Vista Edition Home Premium. How can I see what is on my old HD apart applications and programs?
Hello
1. what happens when you access the hard drive?
2. you get any error message?
3. is there a drive letter assigned to the drive?
4. do the external hard drive work on any other computer?
Please follow the methods.
Method 1:
Check if disk manager the external hard drive is detected
a. click the Start button.
(b) in the search box, type devmgmt.msc, and then on enter.
c. check whether the external hard drive is detected
Method 2:
If a drive letter is not assigned, assign a drive letter and check if you can access the contents of the hard drive.

I have a computer running windows vista that I'm planning on upgrading to Windows 7. I will be transferring files and settings from my old computer running windows XP SP3. Can I make the transfer to the new computer before upgrade Vista to Windows 7 or should I first, up grade for Win 7, and then do the transfer? I also asked a previous question about the email, I use Outlook Express on the XP machine. What happens to the emails, settings, and contacts once I use Windows Vista and Win 7 easy transfer to the have Outlook Express? The new computer has Outlook 2003 is installed, all the settings will automatically go to this program?
Make the transfer later. Everything you do is do more work for the upgrade. It takes hours as it is. Please use the forums of office for questions by email. Click Office link in the banner at the top of the forum page.

transfer files from your old computer with video card damaged to new computer
my old computers video card is damaged can not read anything on the monitor. I want to transfer files to my laptop. Old computer has windows xp new computer has windows vista. I can do this with just an easy transfer cable?
Hello
Put the hard drive from the old computer in the new computer as a 2nd drive. Or turn the player
in an external USB enclosure. Or the other must allow you to access the files.I hope this helps.

I need to plug my monitor up to my new computer before transferring files from the old computer
yet to try to find out if I need to have my monitor connected to my new computer before I use the easy transfer cable to transfer my files from my old computer to the new
Yes, you will need a monitor connected to your computer to use an easy transfer cable. I suggest to use two monitors, one on the old computer and the other on the new.

How can I download files to my documents that came from my old computer w/xp. When I insert the CD all that appears is the Roxio program that wants to burn a new CD.

When I insert the CD all that appears is the Roxio program that wants to burn a new CD.Your question is very difficult to understand. First of all, you can not downloadfrom a CD. The word 'download' means to copy a file (perhaps a program)file, but not necessarily) from a server somewhere on the internet atyour own computer. Please do not reverse this word by "install,"which means to load a program on your disk hard drive in a form whereIt can be runGenerally, you install a program from a CD, a floppy disk oron the internet. Only in the latter case, the internet, is there anyDownload in question, but then again, it's a two-step process: firstDownload you it, and then you install it.Second, I don't know what you mean when you say ' files for my.documents '. Please specify what that means. And what CD you insert? Where do you have? Why are youThreading? What do you expect on that?Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP (Windows desktop experience) since 2003Ken Blake
