Retrieve information from a unauthorized (i) reformat hard drive

My new external hard drive has just automatically reformatted without my permission. Nothing has been re-written on the I: drive since the format.  Is it possible for me to restore these deleted/over-written data?

Walter thanks! Unfortunately it did nothing for me.  I bought an Iomega storage drive.  The 2nd time that I used it, it auto-protege in writing.  Today is the 3rd time that I used it and it auto-formaté without asking permission. Nice! These two sites have also been suggested: http://free-backup.info/data-recovery-software.htm... and http://www.spotmau.com/products/package/full.htm?gclid=COD-xtKL16YCFQjrKgoddRc6JQ

It seems that my data is lost. Ah good... to reliable DVD! Thanks again by the way Walter

Hey jojoroon

I'm sorry that he did not work for you

There are many programs to try to find deleted data

overwritten data are much more difficult to recover

If I were you I would ask their support as to why you have these problems with their newly purchased product

    Hello

You have a set of recovery DVDs, you should be able to start the reinstallation of the operating system by inserting Disc1 into the CD/DVD drive (close a window that can be opened when you do this), then by restarting the laptop to boot from the disc.  As long as the process progresses, you will be asked to insert Disc2 and then later, Disc3.

  • I have an Acer Aspire One Netbook. (No DVD player). From the start on the hard drive, I get a black screen with a blinking cursor.

I have an Acer Aspire One Netbook.  (No DVD player).  From the start on the hard drive, I get a black screen with a blinking cursor.  The cursor does not type.  For me, maybe I need to reinstall windows 7 and startup tasks are corrupt.  I have my product key genuine for the computer, but no way to get to windows.  How to restore windows on a netbook that won't start?

original title: Netbook Windows 7 problem

New computers coming often pre-installed with Windows 7 have what is called a recovery partition. This is used to reinstall an operating system in the case of a system failure. To access it, you need to start when you start your computer by pressing a function key. This can be either F1, F2, F9, F10, F11, F12 key DEL or tab. See the manual that came with your PC for instructions on how to reinstall Windows.

If your recovery partition is not available or damaged, you must contact the manufacturer of your computer, and request that a defined recovery disk you can use to reinstall Windows 7. They could practice a small shipping and handling.

Borrow a 32 bit Genuine Windows 7 friends DVD disc if you know someone who has one.

Make an image of the DVD, you can use a program like ISO Recorder to do.

If you don't have a Windows 7 DVD to borrow, try to upload a picture:

    32 bit
    http://MSFT-DNL.digitalrivercontent.NET/msvista/pub/X15-65732/X15-65732.ISO

You change the content of the. ISO file and delete the ei.cfg file. After having edited burn it to a blank DVD disc or put it on a USB key. Startup, it will reveal all editions of Windows 7, select the Starter edition. More information in the following article on how to change the file ei.cfg

  • Error message "unable to copy the file"hiberfil", it is used by another person or program." Problem copying content from your PC to external hard drive.

Original title: problem to copy content from your PC to external hard drive.

I use Windows XP 2000 and am trying to restore my pc to factory settings as it is continuously 'stick '. When you try to copy my drive "c" on an external drive I get a message saying "unable to copy the file"hiberfil", it is used by another person or program." Close any program that might be using the file and try again "." What is 'hiberfil' and how do I close it down as I am not aware that I use?

    Concerning

    Pete

The hiberfil.sys will be created every time that you start... If you put in hibernation enabled in your control panel, Power Options and the file is 'open' to think that you can actually choose to Hibernate at any given time.  When you Hibernate XP gives a note of it and will write a hiberfil.sys sometimes important in the c:\ folder so that when XP fires again upwards and returns from hibernation, XP will read the hiberfil.sys file and return to the situation that you were in when you put into hibernation.

I use to be a chronic hibernant because it takes less time to return after hibernation as a cold start.  Sometimes, it can actually be slower that a cold so start your system based on the amount of RAM has.  The more RAM you have, the more your hiberfil.sys will, if sometimes it's faster to move with just a cold start if you Hibernate (26,03 seconds for me).

If hiberfil.sys is giving you a hard time (you would not in any way copy it) disable hibernation in your Power Options and the file will be deleted immediately since it would be is no longer necessary.  That would solve this, but if you are trying to copy the entire C drive, you will have other files to complain after that.

It is certainly possible to make a complete copy of the C drive, if you want, but you will have to initialize on something next to your drive hard if you want to do this so the XP files are not used - then you can copy anything and everything.  You can get some imaging software of disc that will also help you.

It depends on what the problem is you want to solve and what you wand to end up with when you're done (so far, unspecified).

I would work on figure our why your XP is paste and fix it in place.  XP should not be sticky.

  • Im trying to retrieve information from a hard disk.

Recently, at work, we had a computer that displayed the dreaded death blue screen.  It wasn't a problem we have other computers to use, but my boss would like to try to recover some of the files on the hard drive.

    So the question is...

    1. is there a way to replace missing files that are causing the blue screen.  My windows recovery CD does not work.

    2. I put the HD in another computer and can access the files on the hard drive. But they are protected by the original users passwords and cannot be loaded by the new operating system.  Is there a way to get around this.

Thanks for any help that can be provided

You might have the chance to do a system restore:

"How to start the System Restore tool by using the option of safe mode with the command prompt in Windows XP"

How were protected by Word files?  He used "Encrypting File System" of Microsoft (EFS)?  If so, the data will be permanently lost unless you can get certificates either by getting the system running again or from backups of certificate [have] created you when you first start using EFS.  Mandatory reading for EFS: see paragraph "why you should back up your certificates.

There is a program I've heard of "AEFSDR", which could also help to recover the files.  I have no experience with this program.  Try Googling it.

  • Media Player play error "unable to retrieve information from server, UPnP media."

I have a Denon AVR 1912 receiver and a PC running Windows 7 w/WMP12.  When I try to use the ' play to ' I can select the receiver but get an error "Unable to retrieve media information from media server."

I tried to re - install WMP 12 and tried to disable my firewall without success.  AirPlay works very well, but I prefer WMP I-Tunes.

The content is on the same computer.  Streaming is enabled and that the receiver is "allowed".

I don't know if it's fixed or not... but I found the solution last night after I spent the most frustrating 5 hours of my life! It is probably a windows problem. I recently replaced my HP laptop with a Dell Vostro 3450 and all of a sudden, I found that this "Play To" feature did not work with my Samsung LED TV UA55C8000. To confirm that this was not a firewall or format related issue I even used the Samsung PC Share software on my PC to act as a DLNA server... With PC share the WMP12 server found no problem 'Contacting the media server' as... but with its own library, it's just stuck there, with a possible failure message. [Point to note is that, even when he could not contact the media server, I could control the TV volume using the same window!]

This is what did the trick for me:

    1 closed WMP12.

    2. go into [Control Panel-> system] Services and safety-> administration-> Services tools

    3. Locate the service named "Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service"

    4. stop the Service manually.

5 locate the "UpnP device host" service Stop the service and restart it.

    6. start 'Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service' now.

    7. close the control panel and all the windows. Open Windows Media Player... make a right click on a playlist and see if the Play option lists the TV. Try to play now... He started playing for me at this point!

  • Starting from installation, recovery - on - external hard drive

Computer: Gateway MD2614u laptop, AMD Turion X 2 64-bit processor, designed for Windows Vista

External hard drive: WD My Book Essentials (surrounded by Western Digital 500 GB drive external hard)

Background: laptop was dropped, crushed physically the internal hard drive, all other aspects of the laptop appear to be in working condition.

Vista says: Windows Setup cannot install another USB or IEEE 1394 device.

It is important to note that the external drive is a SATA.  ALSO that there is NO hard drive internal to the computer right now.

I pulled the drive from its casing and place in my desktop computer.  I have installed Vista in this way, and placed the disc in its case, confident, would solve the problem.  "The found operating system"

I wiped the drive and tried again, this time using my Windows 7 to format the drive make a primary partition active and used the WD SmartWare to disable the password on the external, as well as VCD (Virtual CD, which contains the software for backup on and retrieve the external hard drive) on the outside.  Then installed Vista back once again, the drive in the enclosure, and again, I got 'the operating system not found '.

I tried to use the "gateway recovery disc" the computer asked me to do immediately after I ran it the first time.  They have installed the Vista gateway on the external hard drive without any problem, the recovery software has taught me that I had to press OK to restart the computer, but again once 'the operating system not found"happens.  I advanced and rebooted the computer out of habit and that the computer starts in what concerns the loading of "microsoft" bar (the green bar moving left to right while loading vista), and then it restarted itself.  This new responsible for the 'green bar' and restarted again.

3 times I let him, then I placed the regular 64 bit Vista disc in the status bar and try a startup repair.  "Windows cannot resolve the problem, do you want to send the information to Microsoft" or something that nearby.

I then tried using the disk for 32-bit Vista in the same way.

32 bit Vista disc completed the repair, but now the 'green bar' vista loading screen comes up, runs for a few seconds, and then I get a quick flash of a blue screen, and until I can see what he says, the computer restarts.

My computer is running very slowly - i7 (quad) 266 Mhz and Geforce 9800 GTX graphics card.  I had this computer for about a year.  The problems seemed to start about 3 months when I started to play a game - Empire Total war with Steam.  The computer ran more slow and more slowly, gradually.  I tried all the clean disk, speed up programs, he worked once for a few days and then become very slow.  Finally, I backed up my files and reformat the hard drive and reloaded windows 7.  My computer has nothing loaded except windows 7 and is always very slow! If your PC can pass this test, your memory and CPU
are very good (close the housing cover in order to maintain adequate ventilation)

I was using the LaCie Rugged All-Terrain Hard Disk to back up my MacBook Pro.  He has stopped responding to Time machine.  Does not recognize it when I plug it.  I replaced it with a Seagate, but would like to reformat the LaCie and see if it will work.  When I plug the drive into the usb port, the Mac does not meet the LaCie well I can hear the LaCie.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

  • Can I fix Windows XP Home edition instead of reformatting hard drive?

Hi there, my girlfriends A100 laptop has developed a fault where it gets loading up xp (xp with the blue loading bar loading screen) then back to the option screen giving options such as the safe mode with network, invites order and last known configuration. None of these work. I have not changed any hardware or installed software recently. I have a disc of toshoba product recovery, what I would like to know is it give me the option to repair of xp and I like to keep my personal files or it will completely erase my hard drive for a new installation?

I used this disc today but got so far but did not select the option of recovery in the case where this removes the hard drive. This could not have come at a worse time, I spent yesterday reformat my external hard drive, so the only place where are our precious files on the laptop! If I can't repair xp I might have to buy a hard drive adapter 2.5 inch computer notebook to a desktop pc to access my files. Any help would be very very useful!

PS: apologies if there any obvious mistakes, Im using my wii to write this and his age!

Recovery time WILL erase the HARD drive. You should back up your files first.

    You have a few options:

    1) boot from a generic XP Installation CD and choose repair Windows. This may not work, the problem may be caused by anything whatsoever.

    2) boot from a Live CD Linux such as Knoppix (or BartPE XP-based) and copy your important files to the c: (Windows partition) on a USB key.

    (3) remove the laptop HARD drive and attach it to another PC using a USB 2.5 "HDD SATA Adapter (they are cheap), then copy the important files and then run the recovery.

    (4) attach the computer portable HARD drive directly on a desktop PC motherboard. The desktop PC must be equipped with SATA connectors. connectors SATA 2.5 "and 3.5" are the same.
