Robocopy XP has no commands to copy files.

I discovered and use Robocopy to maintain (horodateurs) dates on my files.  I have many gigabytes of data on multiple hard drives.  When I use Win7 I use the "/ DCOPY:T" option to Robocopy to enable this.  Everything works fine under Win7.  There are a couple of daya, I tried to copy files from an old laptop based on Windows XP.  I discovered that the notebook had no resident Robocopy command, so I DL had what is called "Windows Server 2003", which included a Robocopy command.  However theis WinXP Robocopy DO NOT have any command (that I can find) which allows a copy of my records with their original timestamps.  Help, please.  Is it possible to keep my original timestamps with a Windows XP machine?  Please help.  Thank you.

  • Robocopy hangs when you try to copy a file which in use

    Hello

I find that Robocopy hangs when you try to copy the file using, for example an Outlook .pst file. The behavior of Vista was not to copy the file according to the retry and wait switches from command line, which allowed the backup race move to the next file and finally finish. With Windows 7 the Robocopy session is suspended and resumes ever, even if the file she is trying to copy is closed.

Is this behavior under Robocopy in Windows 7? Is it possible to get Robocopy to move to the file according to when he's trying to copy a file that is in use?

    Thank you

    Jason.

"There is no need of me a pause in my script"-Yes, I understand [and should have done before].

    I just tested a network for the first time operation.  It hangs forever as your done even after I closed Outlook & waited for the w: 30 I put.  {I also ran with closed Outlook the first time just to make sure that the network itself had no problems}

I read that you have provided the link.  This suggests that there is no solution.

    - - - - - - -

You seem to be doing a lot more & probably more structured than mine operation, this workaround might not be of any use to you.  The other open files issue concerns a simple hourly backup of my kernel files that includes pst files.

1 I xcopy all the files in a folder internal InterimBackup first.  Can I use XCopy or RoboCopy to send InterimBackup to the real destination.

2 If Outlook is open then it will copy on InterimBackup and, if the previous Outlook.pst is still in InterimBackup she gets deleted by the attempt of xcopy.  [conclusion - XCopy verifies the existence of the replacement of a file, deletes it and only then discovered that the source file is locked and cannot be copied.]

    So I precede this with

    0 I run [if exists] copy D:\InterimBackup\Outlook.pst to D:\InterimBackup\Outlook2.pst

The result is that whole process always ends but it only includes the last Outlook.pst that was available.  So I always make a point of Outlook to quit at some point during the day so that he could take part in this backup.

If you have also tried this as a two part operation, your xcopy / robocopy in the folder InterimBackup would always succeed but would include only Outlook.pst if you had first closed the application.  Subsequent operation of RoboCopy would always succeed with the same possible omission.

The downside of this might not suit your overall goal.  You'd have to RoboCopy separately all your others folder trees but keep the Outlook.pst in a tree that has not been included.  You could do this either by restructuring of your data or using RoboCopy exclude switches for the file Outlook.pst file.

You have to accept that you might not be sure about the last time that the Outlook file had been included unless you had deliberately run the RoboCopy closing.

I have reviewed this improvement by using Task Scheduler to respond in the event of closing Outlook and use it to initiate the copy outlook.pst to InterimBackup, then by running the part of the main operation on RoboCopy to this folder.  But my needs are so simple that I've never felt it's the logs of the events that I would have to put in place.

As I say, it may not meet your needs.

Yes. These things are possible with scripts or old batch files. Also, take a look at RichCopy.

Anyone have other programs to make the copy of the files, or you suggest anything for me.

You don't say what you use to copy. I guess you are copying between two physical disks, not the two partitions on the same disk.

Other programs, you can try are:

  • Errro message "cannot copy file: path is too deep.

Inequality on the what, why, how do to the error message "cannot copy file: path is too deep." I would like to know the causes and possible prevention and or all of the information available on this issue. The problem occurs when copying large files and sometimes small files on external hard drive to the top.

Even though the file itself may become a 9-character file name extension, it could be buried inside several files.  Thus, when you step on your external USB drive and it appears as, say, M: drive, the number of characters in the complete path to the file starting with "M:\. "and including all of the directories in the path to the file as well as the number of characters in the name of the file itself must not exceed 255 or Windows refuses to handle.

Robocopy is a command line program.  You must type in the command from a command prompt window (start-> Run-> "cmd").  It works by accessing the file using a set of routines to copy the different library that does not have the limit of 255 characters.  A documentation file must accompany Robocopy explaining how to use it.

Another method that might work for you is to take the folder that your .wmv file is in (or maybe both files above) and to temporarily move to the root directory of your external hard drive.  This shorten the path to the file and allow a normal copy of work.

  • Windows XP SP3, corrupted registry. Corrupt / missing windows system32\config\system - restore via Recovery Console cannot copy files of origin of the system32 folder. Please help.

When my husband's computer was incorrectly stop we met the ' Windows XP didn't start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM "error message. I understand that the registry is written on the judgment and that it is not rare that the registry damaged during the power failure or abnormal stop. Checking the bandages for details on how to proceed, and begin the process of recovery appearing in theArticle ID: 307545 of http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545/en-us below:

«First part in the first part, you start the Recovery Console, create a temporary folder, back up the existing registry files to a new location, delete the registry from their existing location files and then copy the registry files in the repair folder to the folder System32\Config.» When you have completed this procedure, a registry is created that you can use to start Windows XP. This registry was created and saved during the initial setup of Windows XP. Therefore, any changes and settings that took place after Setup has finished are lost.

The full, first part, follow these steps:

    1. Insert the diskette of starting Windows XP in the floppy drive, or insert the Windows XP CD into the CD-ROM drive and restart the computer.
Click to select all of the options required to start the computer from the CD-ROM drive if you are prompted to do so.
    2. When the "Welcome" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
    3. If you have a dual-boot or multiboot, select the installation that you want to access from the Recovery Console.
    4. When you are prompted to do so, type the administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.
    5. At the Recovery Console prompt, type the following lines, pressing ENTER after you type each line:
      MD tmp
      copy c:\windows\system32\config\system c:\windows\tmp\system.bak
      copy c:\windows\system32\config\software c:\windows\tmp\software.bak
      Copy c:\windows\system32\config\sam c:\windows\tmp\sam.bak
      copy c:\windows\system32\config\security c:\windows\tmp\security.bak
      Copy c:\windows\system32\config\default c:\windows\tmp\default.bak.

There was no administrator password prompt, but the console began without incident. I was unable to copy these files to a folder. (Yes, I checked my spelling and made certain that the commands, parameters and syntax are accurate.) I created another directory and tested the console by copying the files to repair to the secondary directory. These copied without any errors. I was able to discern that there are no problems with the console itself.  At this point, I'm not sure how to proceed.  There is data that has not yet been backed up and must be recovered where it is suggested to do a new/factory install. Therefore, I need to know if there is another way to proceed to the recovery or if I do a fresh install. In addition, any suggestions on its disk data recovery, if the new installation is the only way to move forward, also would be appreciated. Thank you.

Just to be clear, when you have tried, for example, to run this command:

    copy c:\windows\system32\config\system c:\windows\tmp\system.bak

You have an error message (please report it to full) or maybe nothing happened.

But you did another directory (say 'c:\windows\otherdir') managed by running the following command:

    Copy c:\windows\repair\system c:\windows\otherdir\system

If this is the situation in which you are in, you are essentially impossible to create a backup copy of the current registry damaged.  This is not the end of the world, because as you can see by reading the full article, you never use these files master anyway.  This step is just included "on the side of caution" so that you can restore the original registry files, corrupted, if for some reason you wanted to.

Because you cannot start the system anyway, you might as well begin the process described in the article without creating these master files.

You can either make the step remove first:

    delete c:\windows\system32\config\system

or just try to copy the files in the directory of repair on the files in the \system32\config directory and answer 'Yes' when asked if you want to replace the existing file.

Note that the success of this procedure assumes that you run the system restore.  Otherwise, you'll find yourself with the registry as there was when Windows installation - which certainly won't be compatible with the State of your machine today.

Essentially, what you are doing are the following:

    1. While in the Recovery Console, restore the registry to its state when you first installed Windows.  This allows you to start Windows - but do not try to use any application program.

    2. in Windows, copy of the registry that is saved in a recent restore Point to a location that are accessible by the Recovery Console - but not by using the restore application from the system itself, because with the 'original' registry, System Restore is not aware of these restore points.

    3. While in the Recovery Console, restore the registry using the files you made available at step 2.

I don't really know what's the point of the stage of section 4, unless it is to use system restore to restore to a different restore point.

If you can't make things work by following the steps above, or if there is no recent restore points to use in step 2, then you are correct: you must backup your data, do a clean reinstall of Windows, then reinstall your applications with original media and restore your data from backup.

If you are able to do step 1 and start Windows with its original register, you should be able to use the native Windows tools to backup your data.  I would not use NTBackup, but rather just copy (do not use the 'move' command) data on an external hard drive.  Alternately, you could boot from a live CD of Linux (for example, Knoppix) to access your drive and copy the data.  Or if you have a bootable CD from a like Acronis Disk Imaging application, you can use it.  If you would like more information in this sense, after return.

  • Copy files from specific date ranges in a Batch file

I'm trying to copy files from a folder with many subfolders to another drive using a batch file. I want to copy the files in the date ranges specific (e.g. 01/01/2016 to 03/31/2016).

I use this with Xcopy command:

    xcopy "C:\Users\John\Pictures\*.*" F:\BACKUP\Pictures/s/h/i/y

It works, but I want to send groups of files by date for the different destination folders. I'm having a problem by specifying a date range in the command line.

Is this possible with xcopy or robocopy? Does anyone know how to list the date rang in the command?

  • Error copying file or folder: cannot read the source file or disk.

My problem occurs when you try to copy on the same computer I am on (or to a remote drive).  I get one of these messages in the dialog "error copying file or folder.

    box:

Impossible to copy 'Filename': data error (cyclic redundancy check).
Impossible to copy 'Filename': cannot read the source file or disk.

    Hey Norton victim,

    (a) what is your operating system?
    (b) what program file you are not able to copy?

As the files are copied, Windows verifies that the data that has been copied are the same as the source files. The cyclic redundancy check (CRC) error occurs when the copied data does not match the original.

This could be down to a mistake of the DVD, the disc goes wrong and has failed to 'read' the file properly or the file was placed on a bad sector on your hard drive. (Could be just down to a scratch or some marks on the dvd, maybe clean it if necessary and try again).

I would run a check disk (CHKDSK) against the drive to rule that, although lacking - you have another dvd player to try the disc again? If so, try the dvd in another drive, or even a completely different machine to try to pin-point the problem.

At the command prompt, type the following command and press ENTER:

    Chkdsk /r

Note: If bad sectors are detected when running check disk utility and attempt recovery of bad sectors is verified during the verification of the drive for errors, data in the bad sector can be lost as they tried to recover bad sectors.

  • Copying files vmdk, checksums do not match

I'm under esxi 4 currently, and I'm going to migrate my vitrual servers into an esxi box 5. I added a stand alone SATA Server esxi 4. I stop the virtual server and copy the files from the old data store (a raid 5 array) on stand alone drive (data store). The virtual server has several readers and I so 4 vmdk files to copy. Initially, I copied the vmdk files using the data store Navigator. Once the copy is complete, I used the md5sum command to verify the integrity of the copy from the original and the checksums do not match. I then attempted to use the CLI and issued the-i vmkfs command to copy the files individually (one at a time). Yet once checksums do not match. The size of the blocks on the two data stores is the same (4 MB), so I'm not sure why my checksums do not match after copying. Is this normal? The server has no snapshots etc.

I used this link for the correct procedure-

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 900

It might be possible that there is bit errors that occur during the copy.  I've seen this happen even with high end RAID controllers usually get fixed with firmware updates.  You can check if there are updates for your controller.

To find out if you have bit errors, try the following:

Make a copy of the chart on the single disc and check the md5 on the single disc.  He notes down.  Make a second copy (probably the same) of the table on the single disc and check the md5 second on the single disc.  If the two s md5 on the match single disc, then there is something in the copy mechanism that is edit the files slightly and causing a different md5 of the original on the table.  If they do not match, then it is likely you have found errors of bit of the controller.

"is not accessible in writing" means two things.

    1. There is no.
    2. the permissions are not set correctly.

Determine who it is... This is the first step.

How can I copy files/sub-sub-sub-folders in Icloud on MacBook? Since the upgrade to Sierra, I see all of my folders (with documentation) in icloud but not on my Mac.  Thanks - David

Turn off the power of optimized storage and copy the files to your Mac.

    1. Click on the Apple icon in the upper left corner of your screen.
    2. Select has about this Mac from the menu drop down.

    3. click on the tab for storage in the system information window.

    4. click on manage the...

  • Error in name of user/password incorrect when you copy files or from folders

Our company uses a Mac Mini (with OS X Yosemite) and application server to share our internal files. We've had this set-up for year now with everything works well. As of late, however, we are more able to copy files or folders which are in all shared folders. Basically, when we try to copy any file or folder that is located in one of our share points, we get the error "Unable to connect to the server because the name or password is incorrect". This error occurs for each user account, including my own, that has been specified as an administrator account. We are able to add files and folders (e.g.: copy from our local computers to folders) as well as rename the files and folders that are located in shared folders. We can also create files without any errors, so I'm fairly certain it's not a permissions issue. In addition, I tried deleting completely all files and recreate their but not always the same error. I also tried to create new user accounts (accounts directory Local as the Local network directory) and the problem persists when you are connected to the server using these new accounts. I just don't know what else to do as this seems to be a software problem. Any ideas?

    Thank you

OK, a little update. We have a mac (iMac) client computer that still works under OS X Yosemite. The user on this computer is able to copy files and folders without receiving this error. This same user has also a Macbook that runs El Capitan. Using the same network login for access to the server of their Macbook results in the same error message. All users who receive this error also run El Capitan on their Macs. With this latest development, I'm pretty much able to conclude that this error is the result of El Captain customers access to a shared folder on a server of Yosemite. What is curious is that I did not always have this error since the upgrade to El Capitan. I am sure that this problem came only in the last month or so leading me to conclude that either update to El Capitan (on the computers of our customers) or an update to Yosemite or the Server app) on the computer server has created this error. The issue is upgrading of the computer server to El Capitan solve this problem or am I in for a whole new can or worms?
