RoboHelp 2015 - batch generate with conditional compilation tags broken?

Hello everyone.

My company has recently upgraded to Technical Communication Suite 2015 and today we try to generate online help for the first time with RoboHelp 2015. We have been batch generating (rhcl.exe) for about a year with no problems... and today I have problems in conditional tag of major works. I'll try to be as detailed as possible, in the hope that the community can tell me if I'm doing something wrong.

System: RoboHelp 2015 on Windows 7 64 bit. WebHelp layout. Upgraded project of HR 11 a week ago.

Setting up a project

In most of the topics, we have a 'See also' section at the end, with a few links. This section is tagged with the 'Online' CBT (so that we can exclude the PDF output).

There are 4-5 CBT by module.

My conditional compilation expression is: NOT print AND NO risk AND NO WIP. The expression is named Test. This conditional compilation expression is stored in a WebHelp SSL called VALUE. The 'Online' tag appears correctly under tags available and it is certainly not excluded.

The problem

I use the following command;

"C:\Program Files (x 86) \Adobe\Adobe RoboHelp 2015\RoboHTML\rhcl.exe ' 'D:\technical_documentation\my_project\my_project.xpj'-l 'Test' o 'D:\help_builds\my_master\mergedProjects\my_project '.

In the output, all the content that is tagged with Online is not visible, even if the tag was not excluded!

I tried a few other scenarios and the results are even more confusing to me. I scored some random text with some other tags ('link', 'afds' and 'value') - labeled content 'link' and 'afds' is not visible, but the content labeled 'Value' is... Although none of these tags have been excluded!

If I generate RoboHelp, not with the lot, everything works fine, without changes in the SSL settings.

Am I right in thinking this is a new bug? Perhaps rhcl.exe support incorrectly the improvements in tag conditional compilation in HR 2015? I will record a bug if this is the case, but I would like some opinions firstly thank you!

Adobe have studied this problem and managed to reproduce it.

I suggest that report you it as a bug so that Adobe can contact you if they need more information.

  • Encoded text with conditional compilation still tags appear in TOC even if the label is "excluded".

    I use TCS2, Windows XP.

After you have created a book in FM and coding with conditional compilation tags, I imported HR. When I generate, I output the value tag:

NOT NoOUtput AND NOT internal AND NOT printed - I want to generate my external, webhelp online help. And it works like a charm. Except that:

    • In the table of contents, I can still see the stars for the things that are "internal" - when I click on it, they're not going anywhere... but I don't want them to appear in the table of contents!

It seems to exclude from the index and search. I don't know that miss me just a step, or something...

Browsing the forums I found this... http://forums.Adobe.com/message/751847#751847 -I don't know if it is still applicable, because it seems to allude to RH6 (which is a bit far from the 8 HR that I use)...

    Any help is appreciated!

@Daggins - that's what I was talking about! I knew it was there somewhere ;>)

@adrianaharper - if it doesn't work properly in PDF files that you create on the FM band; what the TOC looks like FM? You're just pulling in HR when you import/link right? If the faulty internal topics are appearing in the table of contents of the FM, then expect them to appear in HR too. You must kill them, FM or kill them in HR.

  • I need help with RoboHelp 10 conditional compilation tag option

I need assistance with the option of conditional compilation tag. I want to apply CBT to the contents of a field. I looked at the help topics and believes that I applied the function correctly. However, it does not work as you wish. In the 2nd sentence below, I want the text highlighted in blue to appear only to the printed output and printed in purple text to appear only to the .htm / output online. Help, please.

    Hello

With the help of marking is a two part process.

    First part

You create and apply tags for the information you want to order.

    Second part

You create a create an Expression that is used when you generate your output. The Expression of build usually reads something like: NO Tag1 (or whatever the name of your tag)

Then when generate you and use the Expression to build, the information containing the tag is not included in the build.

  • Which file in RoboHelp 11 is used to store settings for conditional compilation tags

We share a RoboHelp 11 project between two authors and have noticed that the conditional compilation tags defined by an author are not detected by the second author that accesses this project through version control. I think that the file containing the details of the tags conditional build has not been added to version control, and thus the second author cannot see these details. Does anyone know what this file is called, so I can add it to version control?

    Thank you very much.

The PSS file gets overwritten if you put it in the source code control, you will get very strange results. You can copy the PSS file between computers, so I would go that route.

Also have the other author define the same expressions in the preview. Once you have done that, the project will remember them.

  • Conditional compilation tags or phrases in the table of contents

    Hi all

I meet another problem with my conversion, this time with the tags and conditional compilation expressions.
Everything seems to go well in my subjects, but not in my table of contents.

Some of my topic titles have words with conditional text applied in the source FrameMaker document.

These subject titles also appear in the table of contents that are automatically generated when I connect my framework book in Robohelp.

I put the conditional compilation expression in the Webhelp settings dialog box and then save and build.

These topic titles appear to pick up the correct conditional compilation expression in the subjects themselves, but the title of the table of contents displays several conditions (including the condition that I set myself to 'Exclude').

Thus, for example, if the title of my topic is

    "Conventions in this documentonline help."

    WHERE
    -----
document > should appear in PDF format only
    and
online help > must only appear in Webhelp

I can get the Webhelp topic to use the title "Conventions in this online help.

but the corresponding TOC header looks like this:
    "Conventions in this documentonline help.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you.
    What

Conditional compilation tags are not imported to the table of contents of the FrameMaker content. However, you can follow another approach to achieve this. We can manage the conditional compilation expression in FrameMaker itself and import the content of filterted in RoboHelp. In order to achieve this, set the conditional compilation expression in FrameMaker. Enable the setting in RoboHelp to 'apply FrameMaker text building conditional Expression '. [File->-> import-> Edit (FrameMaker settings)-> other settings of project settings]

This way of RoboHelp will import only the content filtered with conditional tags build resolved according to the expression applied in FrameMaker.

  • Conditional compilation tags do not work for printed documents

    Hi all

I'm working on the huge aid project, a unique project for several clients. I use conditional compilation tag features to determine what topics, links, images, text, etc. should be included or excluded the CHM for the appropriate client file.

When I tried to generate printed documentation (DOC and PDF) for a conditional build tag, I was upset by the fact that conditional construction used in TOC label do not work... The output document contains all the themes of the project help, despite the good create a conditional Expression defined for this schema of the source.

"Nobody knows how the correct subjects can automatically participate in the layout of chapter (see page 'Printed Documentation' Setup Assistant ' Presentation of the Document Print') in accordance with the conditional Build Expression in the 'print general Document' Wizard page"Printed Documentation"settings defined)?
If it works? I think Yes, because this is the absurd, if I need to compare subjects with the table of contents and manually select them :(

    Please, help me...
    Olga

You do not apply the tag the right way. Applying to the table of contents only excludes the topic to the table of contents online.

Apply the tag to the section in the project manager, and it will work as you want.

    No bug.

  • Is there a limit to the conditional compilation tags?

I have difficulties in WebHelp edition (which is our preferred choice). The project is huge anyway, with subjects from 1580, so it's a bear to manage. To add to the workload, I have three conditional compilation tags created. For now, each topic (minus five) assigned to one and only one of the conditional tags I build. So there's a lot of conditional in the equation.

When I publish the complete help on my office file, it works fine (although I think more slowly as before, I've added the tags). When I assign a SSL so that only two tags conditional build is included, the publication fails. RoboHelp gets hung up, and I have to close it by the Task Manager. The output is never completed.

In any case, I can't publish the help file on a server. Even if I publish the SSL without conditions applied, RoboHelp is hindering again. I can always publish to desktop and upload it to my server.

So, is there an upper limit for the number of subjects who may have applied conditional construction? I couldn't find a limit in the documentation.

    Kevin

No limit that I definitely know the numbers you're talking about are not a problem.

If you can publish to a local drive, then the conditions aren't the issue.

Are you clear on the difference between the production and publication?

Also in your second paragraph you say that you can publish on your desktop. In your third paragraph, you say that you can not publish for SSL. Which should also be on your local disk, so at odds with the two things.

    Where is your project stored?

  • RH6 dislikes the conditional compilation Tags?

We went just to HR 6 yesterday and I've been upgrading of our projects and test them. One of the projects (project A) seems to have upgraded correctly. It's very simple: no conditional build tags or conditional constructions. I generated WebHelp perfectly and spot tested a few links just to get an idea of how the project is in the new version.

However, the other project (project B) is complex and includes several build tags. When I generate WebHelp with one or several tags in the build, I get an error and the report. Here are the steps I took to solve problems, but still can not find the cause:

    1. If I UNDERSTAND all the tags to build the project B (no excluded), I have NO errors. So, I thought that there could be a problem with delayed RHX5 tags.
    2. I then tried to create a new tag RH6 project b and excluding that, and I get the error again. Then, I was wondering if it is a global problem with RH6.
    3. so then I opened a project has, (who had no problem so far) and created a new tag it and excluded. I had NO errors. This project continues to operate correctly.

So it appears there is something wrong with the project B. It may or may not have something to do with the tags.

Is anyone else had problems with complex projects with a lot of tags in RH6? I appreciate all help. I'm puzzled.

    Thank you
    Lisa

    Hi Rick and Harvey,

Sorry I was not more specific, Harvey. HR completely crashes (stop) after you acknowledge the error. The error report was extremely long, so I hesitated to make my message too long if someone would recognize the problem comes with a short description.

It turns out that I used the fixed. DLL that Rick made reference in his message. It is extracted from Peter #71, RH6 Patch for the issue of the merged cells and links problem. This corrects the problem.

Thank you, Rick and Harvey, for your help and responses!

    Lisa

P.S. on a different note, I must say that I REALLY like to be able to get rid of my subjects of redirect and tag TOC and index instead of RH6 entries. AWESOME!

  • Conditional compilation tag problem

    Hi all

Someone has experienced problems with their output after the conditional application build the table column labels? I HR 7.002.001 and a colleague has the 7.00.145, version and it's the only difference that we can find as the potential problem. It seems that it is applied properly tags to specific columns in a table. However, when it generates the output, she sees two ways:
    1. There is a white space (i.e. for a column, she marked as being excluded, the text in the column does not appear, but there is just a long, empty spot between two columns)
    2. There are jagged border lines where the columns excluded would be located

As my colleague says: "with the publication of the document printed, hidden under condition still columns appear, just very thin and no content in them.» The layout of the page is a very bad image. »

She is also having other issues in the generated printed document that I'm not having:
1 in creating documents printed, heading 1 becomes heading 2, and heading 2 becomes 3 header.
2 there is no margin in the cells of a table (and for example, the text is immediately next to the border, without space), with the exception of the table in the Options column cells. All the table cells, including those in the Options column, have the same properties.
    3. for all the files that she edited, the header and footer are now display above and below the unique table in the subject (i.e., for tables that span several pages in the doc Word, the header and the footer are at the beginning and end of an html page that contains the table unique, rather than having a header and a footer on every page that runs the single table on).
    4. the borders are not exported with the table in the printed document. When she added, they appear inconsistent in the printed doc. Some borders end up being two lines, and others are a unique and thicker line.

Any help is greatly appreciated, especially in regards to the problem with its output being incorrect despite the application of tags to build properly and their exclusion from the output correctly.

    Thank you!

  • Conditional compilation tags: what is the difference between FAKE and subject to the terms of CBT content? Best practices?

Hello. I'm new to HR and we try to TCC allows to identify which groups of users will have access to some online help. I understand the purpose of the application of the TCC to the subject or the level of the content, but when you try to apply a TCC to the level of the Topic, it also gave me the option to add it to the table of contents.  Can someone explain why I would apply them to these two levels level TOC and topic?  Are there GOOD resources in there that better explain the CBT? What I find just says 'apply CBT' which is frustrating!

    Hello

When you apply a CBT, do you more often in order to "leave out" information that does not apply to some version of the output. Your message seems to suggest you have this knowledge base. And at the level of the heading, marking words or images cause them to delete when you apply and exclude a tag later.

As you said, a tag can also be applied to the subject itself. And if you do this, the entire topic is deleted when you generate using the expression of the generation that excludes it. If this topic is in the table of contents, since it is excluded, it is also deleted from the table of contents and will not appear in the table of contents generation.

And finally, you also have the option of marking of individual elements of OCD. And, just like other things, if a page or a book TOC has been labeled, it is removed from the table of contents at the time where that you generate your output.

For me, I tend to avoid marking of the table of contents. I tag in general regardless of the subject, it is as the table of contents of the links page. Because I know not if the subject is not there, the crux of the TOC disappears. The marking if the table of contents is exaggerated.

It helps to give a sense better?

  • Conditional compilation Tag color

I want to change the color of the conditional construction label that I use for blocks of text within a topic. HR is forcing me to make the same change in each section using the CBT. Is it possible to change the color of the CBT for all subjects at the same time? I use HR Office X 4.

I don't know why, but my colors look correct now. What I saw before (with the wrong colors) that in some subjects is meaningless. I'll just assume that it was gremlins when I damaged my project a few weeks ago... Your idea on the use of access could turn out to be very useful in the future. I don't know why I'm going to need her, but I love these bits of knowledge. Don't know why I don't have the connection that you can open the file .mpj with Access. I copied the .mpj to a different folder before watching with access. Thank you

  • Conditional compilation tags and numbered lists

Is there a way to get numbered lists to be updated automatically when using conditional tags? For example, step 6 of a 10 step list is necessary for 1 of 4 products. However, when I saw the content for 3 to 4 products that do not require this step, the list is numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, etc.

That is the question... Thanks Colum.

  • Apply conditional build tags to keywords in the Index?

My client has a package tailor-made for a specific customer in their software. There is a help topic common with conditional compilation tags applied to content, allowing a layout to the standard product, and aid excludes any reference to material on measurement, and the other available include text on the module to measure. This works well, with the exception of the Index keywords for custom stuff, which still appears in the Index for the standard Help Guide.

Any ideas anyone? How can I index tag keywords while they are excluded from a defined page layout?

    Hello Phillip

In addition to my colleague Peter's response, using RoboHelp 7? If so, I think that we can now apply a condition to a single sentence index on the Index designer pod. I don't remember if this possibility has been introduced in Adobe RoboHelp 6, but maybe it's there as well.

  • Tags of conditional compilation with numbered lists

Hi, I use conditional compilation tags to create a separate version of our help file of product for a cut of the version of the software. In our help instructions we use numbered task to explain how to run a process.

When measures are not mandatory for the coupe version, the numbering is not auto-update accordingly - is there a way to fix this?

    Thank you
    Richard.

Sorry I was talking rubbish. If this can be deleted please go ahead.

  • How to remove a tag of conditional compilation

I write here, because the link to the General discussion seems to be broken.

I want to remove the conditional compilation tags that come with RoboHelp 11. For RoboHelp online help (accessible by clicking on the?) Help button in the dialog tag to build conditional) says:

«To remove the tags conditional build of a project, click project.» Expand the folder for conditional Build tags, click a tag, and select Remove. And then click OK. »

I haven't used RoboHelp for a while, so forgive my ignorance, but where exactly "click Project? I seem to remember that the conditional Build tags folder used to reside in the project files folder in the project manager pod. But he's not here.

    Thank you!

    Hi Carol

Try clicking on View > pods > conditional build tags.
