  After a recent power outage, my system has restarted with a weird and very common Windows problems range. The system boots fine, all my personal files/folders/apps are intact, have suddenly stopped almost all functions of applications, but many crucial functions of the Windows kernel. It's the equivalent of getting a tire on your car in the middle of nowhere to find the spare tire flat and the missing Jack. I have used to be fanatical about the definition of the regular restore points, but now can not access them. I have backups of most of my personal files, but over years have lost most of the original installation CD for many of my applications (there are over 100 applications on my system) and I don't want to lose the file associations and architecture of directory tree that it took my so long to implement. I started with Win XP media center edition of first (circa 2004 or almost) and have migrated twice more of 3 hard disks and 2 computers. All this time (5 years of daily use), I have NEVER known so many malfunctions for as many Windows basic and vital functions at the same time. I tried a lot of 3rd party "windows fix - it / registry repair" apps, all have no effect. Everything I can speculate is there was some serious damage to the registry and have no idea how/why so many Services refuse to start. In MMC, more than half of the services actually start and run, the rest all give the error message "the service or dependencies is not start (error 1068).» In addition, very oddly, no. APPS or windows appear in the toolbar AT ALL, but the Quick Launch toolbar works very well, just like the tray button and start tasks (?! )!). If I reduce a window, it "disappears" (Nothing on the task bar), but I can restore it using the alt - tab keyboard shortcut to switch apps, so all applications/windows appear on the list of the Task Manager. A few apps is paralyzed bad, as the player windows media, itunes, etc. (I guess because the service windows audio can not not start), some won't start at all, but 90% of them work fine, except to try to copy or back up all files. I can create new files, however. I'm desperate to find a solution to repair XP3 Win WITHOUT losing my installed applications and files, before I try and switch to WIndows 7. Any help/suggestions/links/advice would be much appreciated. I'm an experienced user, but I've never met so many malfunctions based on the OS at a time. I, however, very painfully learned (years before that my system so complex) it's been almost a re-installation of Windows guarantees to lose my installed apps and files, the directory tree architecture associations.

  The blackout has corrupted your Windows installation. Back up your data now. Since you have problems so much, it would be probably best is to remove the hard drive, put it in a USB drive enclosure and attach it to another computer to copy the data OR start the target with Linux Livecd such as Knoppix system and copy the data to an external hard drive. IOW, do not use the damaged windows to try to get your data.

  You can try a repair that will leave your programs and facility data intact, but with this widespread bribery, it is unlikely to work. However, it takes only a few minutes and is so worth a try. If the repair facility does not work there is nothing to do, but a clean install. And Yes, it will mean that over again.

  Consider buying a UPS to help prevent future damage by power outages. For a single computer, you should look for one in the area of $60 to 80. A more expensive UPS is not necessary. Another good disaster recovery strategy is to buy an external hard drive and Acronis True Image. You can image your system (and can make an incremental backup image so that your image is still current).   Downloaded app from AppWorld is every time the same naming convention: name app + name of the seller. If you install your own server via JAD you get usually only the name of the application under the name of CodeModuleGroup. It does not really affect the installation, I've updated installed OTA app with AppWorld version and vice versa, no problem at all.

• After Windows 7 upgrade - duplicate files, folders, and applications

  I don't know if this is the right place for this question. After the upgrade to Windows 7 from Windows Vista, I had a lot more on my computer that I did before.   I'm on CS4, but this problem has happened yet in CS3. When I created a new site in Dreamweaver, I go through the usual motions by selecting the local root folder and the images folder. Then when I go to the new site how to create a cache of the original site as usual. After that (when I try to download anything for example) the cache seems to have disappeared (for example all files disappear them in DW). He told me that I should go through the implementation of the process of site once again, but this only ends up going round in circles!
  
  Curiously, when I look at my HD in the finder, Dreamweaver has created a new folder named "Macintosh HD" and inside follows the same structure of exact file that 'real' local files unless the Web site files do not exist in the root folder.

  You may find that when you set up the printer first place it has been accidentally manually installed as a "print to file" rather than a printer real itself.

  My suggestion would be to uninstall all samsung software, remove the printer (start, devices and printers, right click on the printer-> remove) and then start again from scratch. Let us know how you go!

• Help! Can I recover my Lightroom changes after re-synchronization and rename folders sources?

  My source files were a mess, I went and about organized, creating folders and sort by type. I thought I could just re - a link to the files offline in LR.

  In Lightroom, I clicked on my photo of root folder and chose 'synchronize the folder"- what I didn't, is it seems to have deleted what I had and it re-imported again. So my problem is that all my Lightroom changes on these files are now gone. All I have are raw photos, intact.

  I backup on a regular basis. Is it possible to restore my changes? All the underlying file names are the same.

  OK, think about it. Here's what I did, in case anyone has the same problem in the future:

  • Open the catalog in the menu file. Chose my latest backup (since last weekend).
  • He closed my catalogue in force and loaded the old a. This means that I went to a ton of grey tiles with '?' icons, because it cannot find the files in the original location.
  • I clicked on the first '?' icon. LR says: "cannot find IMG_3843" for example. I clicked on "find" and pointed to the new folder. All images in this folder appeared then, which is really nice because I didn't have to do photo by photo. Only by folder. Who saved a ton of time!
  • The pictures seemed still unpublished, but when I click on one of them, it loads the changes that I made in LR.

  All back to normal! Phew!

  Go through this process, I had an extra appreciation for the elegance of the design of LR.

My books are in Dropbox to save space on my hard drive, so my question is this: is there a way to add Dropbox folders to the iTunes library that are only in the cloud and not on my hard drive?   There is no 'slot' for online storage...  Each service can have its own connection to your Mac.

  While you listen to your music to iCloud, you always use your library iTunes that is stored on your Mac.  In your case, all his music is accessible from your music to iCloud library, instead of being stored locally on your disk.  But other types of media, such as audio books that you added manually, are not accessible from iCloud.  They must be stored locally, which I think is the problem you describe.

  Then, I added the test song file to my iTunes library, from its location on my iCloud drive.  iTunes treats the song file and it appeared in my music library.  To simulate that it is an audiobook, I did right click on read the information on the song in iTunes.  Options of the Info window tab, I changed media type for audiobook.  And this song appeared in my library of audio books .  To confirm the location of the file, I did a Get Info again once and the file Info window tab, resembled the location.  The path indicated he is my iCloud drive.  So, when I played the song (audiobook), he played online storage.

  You can try it by using Dropbox, if this online storage space appears on the Mac system like iCloud Drive.  Or, you can try using iCloud drive instead, as for my test.

  We use XP in a business environment. Recently, we have noticed that some user in "Documents and Settings" folders on a particular machine have changed randomly to be appointed with all caps. This causes problems with their profiles. What could have caused this?

  Windows keeps cases in the names of files and folders, but when you access to files and folders, it is case-insensitive (i.e. upper/lower case is not serious).

  I installed APEX 4.2.6 EPG on Windows 7 Professional (32 bit) with Intel Core i3 processor.  Oracle XE 11.2 Win-32 DB.

  All the installation steps followed according to the Installation guide for the Apex.  It is a fresh and new installation.

  I installed successfully JDK7, WebLogic Tuxedo 11 GR 1 material and PeopleTools 8,53 10.3.6, in Oracle Linux 5.

  
  I've been setting up of database PeopleTools8.53. Because the Wizard installation problem, I created PeopleTools 8,53 database manually by using starter PT853 Oracle database instance. I have run the following scripts:
  (1) utlspace.sql
  (2) dbowner.sql
  (3) ptddl.sql
  (4) psadmin.sql
  (5) psroles.sql
  (6) connect.sql

  
  Then, we perform Data Mover script in a Windows XP Client computer to fill the PeopleTools PT853 database machine Linux Sever instance.

  I installed Oracle Database 11 g 2 client for 32-bit Windows XP 64 - bit Windows virtual machine and run it successfully.

  In Oracle Linux 5 Server Machine Net Manager:

  Service name: PT853
  Connection type: default database
  "TCP/IP Protocol".
  Host name: 192.168.196.102
  Port name: 1521

  Listener: LISTENER
  Protocol: TCP/IP
  Host: 192.168.196.102

  I test the Service PT853 with "SYSADM" username and password "SYSADM". The connection is successful.

  In the Windows XP Client computer, the information in the Net Manager is the same, and the connection is successful as well. Its details are as below:

  According to my understanding, process connection Data Mover and the application designer requires 3 tables in SQL Server: PSOPRDEFN, PSACCESSPRFL, PSSTATUS. I'm not sure the process of connecting to the Oracle database. I checked the database PT853 instance in Linux, and there is only one table "PSDBOWNER" created by the scripts.

  My question is:

  Can any folk tell me the connection process Data Mover and Oracle database application designer? Requires only one table "PSDBOWNER"?

  Oh my, many mistakes action here. If PSDBOWNER doesn't have a line, it must be solved at the time that the error came out. The replacement by SYSADM first why? Why is complaining already existing SYSADM? Most likely, you HAVE created manually, where you shouldn't.
