Running programs on the BACK of the prompt in Windows 7

Until the duty to upgrade to Windows 7, I was always able to access the old financial data by running MYM9 (Andrew Tobias), a program of BACK to the command prompt.  He has worked with all previous versions of Windows... to right up through XP, Service Pack 3. But NOT NOW less than 7.  If anyone has found a way to work around the 32-bit error, 84 bits and was able to run BACK old programs?  Microsoft Compatibility Pack provides to run programs under previous versions does not help. I changed through Microsoft Money in 2000, but they have now abandoned who... and now I can't access previous data. Help someone?  Nancy

Thanks for the info and the links... sounds like I have to do a lot of reading more or become more a "techi" - your first link Windows answers my question. Microsoft's virtual solution does NOT work under 7 Home Premium.  I was happy to see that there are other options than a $200 upgrade. Take a look at the DOSBOX solution first, since I am much more familiar with the BACK I'm with Windows!  Giving my age a bit - don't you :-) away

Since Windows Vista no longer has a DOS-like command processor full screen if any of these old programmes full screen will run without some kind of emulation program. The 'virtual Microsoft solution' you are thinking is very specific to Win7 Pro, but there are several other 'free' virtualization options out there, including the Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 pre-Win7 version which runs in any version of Windows XP and more. There is also an update of service for this package.

http://www.Microsoft.com/en-US/Download/details.aspx?ID=4580

Apart from this there are also VirtualBox and VMware Player to create virtual machines that are running in windows.

IMO, however your best bet would be to use the program DOSBOX (run programs from a command prompt in DOSBOX) or better yet one of the windows based front-end programs that rely on it, as D-Fend Reloaded.

http://dfendreloaded.sourceforge.NET/

With these you don't need to source another OS to install in an environment virtual (they come with the freeware BACK). Once installed D-Fend Reloaded is managed like any Windows program. With it you can configure virtual BACK environments customized to each of your programs under DOS to run in.

Once configured, select the program you want to run from a list.

There are several other Windows programs that front-end for DOSBOX, of varying complexity.

Note that some viruses can hide from your normal antivirus program, so you really need to scan in Safe Mode. To enter in Safe Mode when you turn on first, press F8 on every seconds until you get the menu, and then select Safe Mode. Then run a complete system scan.

If that suits him fine. If this is not the case, use system restore to go back to an earlier date at the beginning of the problem. To run system restore, click Start-> programs-> Accessories-> System Tools-> system restore. Click on the box that says show more restore points.

You can check the corrupted system files. Open an administrator command prompt and run SFC if the above does not help. Click START, and then type sfc in the search box, right-click to SFC. EXE and click run as administrator. Then, from the command prompt type sfc/scannow.

Finally if all else fails, you can look at the rather cryptic system event log. To make, click Start-> Control Panel-> administration-> event viewer tools. Once in Event Viewer system log-click and scroll entries looking for these "error" with indicator see if you can find guidance on where the problem may be.

  • HP Jet 7 I can store and run programs from the memory card

I have a HP Jet 7 with 64g memory card.  Can I store and run programs on my memory card?  How can I do?   Right now I store data on the card only.

    Hey @Tammy21856,

Welcome to the forums of HP.

I understand that you wonder if the programs can be installed in the storage on your Tablet 7 SD stream.

You most certainly can. However, there are a few conditions. The first is that storage SD will be not as fast as the internal memory. The second is that the program that you install custom support install locations, but most programs do that should be of little interest. The last thing is that you can install office on the SD storage applications. Windows applications must be installed on the C:\ drive. In Windows 8, there was a way to install apps metro to SD storage, but the feature has been removed in Windows 8.1.

Thanks for posting and I hope that answers your question.

    Hello Gus,

Are youtalking on the "Quick launch" toolbar in the taskbar or the recently used list just above the Start button?

For one of these, I delete and recreate.

Start menu > right click Remove from the list.
Simply run a program to him added

Quick Launch toolbar > right click on the taskbar and uncheck "lock the taskbar".
Right-click on the icons, and select Remove

  • Advantages and disadvantages of adding programs and the operating system windows to mac?

For a long time Windows user., new Mac user. What are the advantages and disadvantages of the addition of the windows operating system and programs for the MacBook Pro? I use word and excel regularly, but not yet sure I want or should add capacity to my new Mac.

If you need Windows programs that don't have any equivalent of Mac, there is nothing wrong with it.  I have not because I didn't need Windows programs.

    But...

If you do, you must decide if you need full-system-resources (Bootcamp, boot sector corrupted system, OSX will sleep while Windows is running) or just one-environment virtual (VM, share system resources, runs as a 'guest' to OSX at the same time as OSX).  Bootcamp will have part of your partitioned drive so make sure you have spare disk space.

And if you go Bootcamp, position and spend time in the Bootcamp Boot Camp forum where lonely T is an expert who can guide you.

  • How ID programs & application developers and the purpose of programs on the list of Windows programs - Windows 7

I use Windows 7 on a 21 iMac machine.  I use an Apple software "Bootcamp", dividing the HD 500 GB between the OSX and Windows 7 operating system. I want to edit/purge my software and apps, so I'm going to Windows programs and this is the problem I have. If I down - loaded the program and I do not have the installation CD Rom disc, I can't determine from the Windows programs list exactly what programs are for icons and minimal description in the list of Windows programs.  I don't remember what it is that some of them do, but God knows my computer don't you, and if I delete something I shouldn't remove, I'll have a sick computer or worse!  All I get are, for the most part are '... you want to uninstall this program?  But of course I didn't not without knowing what the heck I'm going to do to my
computer. The program, the file name, extensions and the icons are really confusing and for a layman, incomprehensible.  It seems the developers
programs do business using trade or brand names that so little has nothing to do with the function or purpose programs.  Windows updates are not the worst, but they are at the top of the list.  I have faithfully and automatically download all Windows updates. Why. like Mickey?  I have no idea, but I trust MS (in general) to do the right thing by me and not screw up my Windows 7 operating system.  What I have to download anything that comes my way?  Probably not, but if it comes from MS or big players, I trust, MS and Adobe, Corel, etc., enough for to update, but
If I want to stream line my programs and get rid of the ball and keep only the wheat, I need to know what I got for free or paying over the years.

Suggestions are requested if all goes well and will be read carefully, even followed, if keep you it simple.  Thank you!

Oh and by the way, never uninstall updates that is sent to you via Windows updates.  As you think, Microsoft publishes these updates for specific reasons and they should never be uninstalled.

  • SpeedBit has ruined all my programs. Cannot open/run programs including the use of my FAVORITE BROWSER - MOZILLA FIREFOX. Help! PLEASE, I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO

I don't know that started it all. I have been using Mozilla Firefox as my #1, favorite and, of course, my favorite on Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Opera browser... That's all just great. In addition, I had used 10 DAP Premium, SpeedBit downloader and converter downloader. Everything to go well for more than a year. Then all of a sudden, sometimes about 2 months ago, I opened my browser, tried to run so that I can go online. And here, I got a message saying: C:\Program Files\Common Files\SpeedBit\SBUpdate\sbfi32.dll is missing. Try reinstalling the program to fix the problem. Well I did - probably at least 20 times, but no help, it did not work. Now, I can't open my programs/software even more because the same message keeps popping up. Personally, I think that something must be done to those who wrote the program - if they wanted something malicious [in] the software - I REALLY NEED HELP!

Try to uninstall speedbit from the control panel.

    And update firefox to getfirefox.com

Hi all, on Windows 7 64-bit PC brother Dell, tried to install programs such as AVG Anti Virus, Remote desktop connection update.

Every time we try what is installation hangs and nothing happens, to use the Task Manager to complete not only the program, if it is not there at all, but the actual process.

Same thing happens if we try to uninstall a program.

    Can uninstall in safe mode,

Have tried restore system to a time of ealrier, but the system does not want to do same.

At work after a few weeks, but since then without success.
