Running Security Center and Norton 2010?
Ooops! Sorry I meant Security Center and NIS 2010. Sorry for the cofusion.
Re: Vista Home Basic 32-bit / Norton 2010
Should I run Windows and Norton 2010 Security Center all at the same time?
Already, I understand that I should not have two Firewallls at the same time and you have disabled the firewall of Defender, but what of the rest?
Thank you!
When you install Norton and Norton would make jobs for you, it allows to disable components such as Windows Firewall. Windows Security Center is a tracking tools and does NOT matter what conflict, it will shows you what is happening in your PC, such as you update or anti-virus is working or not.

Should I remove S * PERAantiSpyware from my computer?
If it is not necessarily - free SAS, but if all were fine with your computer (and it's not!), you should not have installed SAS because MSE includes a component of anti-malware.
Should I install the [definitions optional updates offered by Windows Update MSE]?
You pouvez install them but this is not necessary - assuming that MSE is installed & working properly... but I suspect that this is NOT the case! See this FAQ: http://answers.microsoft.com/thread/74e507b8-f6da-4eca-8ce7-d1aca7d3f1ba
[Microsoft] Security Essentials is related to the Security Center?
Yes. Security Center monitors the status of the firewall, automatic updates and Protection against malware (anti-virus & anti-malware; applications i.e. Microsoft Security Essentials).
Translation: Since the Security Center still cannot be permanently turned on, there is a very good chance that MSE and Windows Firewall will not work correctly - despite the fact that we have now managed to get the computer fully patched to Windows Update and despite the multi-step fix, I had to make.
In your case, there are several possible causes for this behavior:
1. your McAfee subscription and/or your previous subscription of Norton AntiVirus may have expired before that you did something;
2. do not run the remove McAfee & Norton tools at the right time; or...
3. misguided use of registry cleaners.
So, what can you do about it?...
OPTION A: MSE support could be able to help you. Residents of the United States (only!) should be able to open a support incident free of charge by e-mail via this page-online https://support.microsoftsecurityessentials.com/default.aspx?productkey=morrolaunch&mkt=en-us&st=1&wfxredirect=1
Note: After selecting your option, language (e.g., English-US) and clicking the button CONTINUE, click on the EMAIL button, not the FORUM button!
OPTION B (recommended): See the poster in this thread and follow the instructions of (my) WHOLE (to the letter and in order! ) to restore your computer to a State safe & functional: http://answers.microsoft.com/thread/c44429fb-3f7c-4646-8529-5a97bb3cd0eb
If these procedures are outside your technique "comfort zone" - and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the local computer, reputable and independent (i.e., not a 'BigBoxStore' or Geek Squad!) computer repair shop & let them do the work.
IMHO your computer must NOT be connected to the internet or local area network (i.e. other computers) in its current state. All your personal data (e.g., banking online & passwords credit card) must be considered at risk, if not already compromised.
Wish I had better news for you. Good luck!

What is the Windows Security Center and is compatible with Avast antivirus Protection?
I installed a paid for version of Avast on my Windows XP computer. (I won't be upgrading to a more modern version of Windows.)
I also called Windows Security Center.
Is the Windows Security Center virus protection, or is it simply a place to control and discover whatever you have antivirus protection?
If it is a virus protection, it would hurt Avast and if so can I uninstall it?
If I removed Avast and didn't have Windows Security Center, I should any type of protection against viruses on my computer?
The only type of protection against viruses in addition to Avast, I am sure that I have on my computer is Windows Firewall. I turned that off and am now strictly protected by the firewall of Avast. Windows Security Center notifies me of cannot have two firewalls upwards at the same time.
If Windows Security Center antivirus protection it would do no harm to leave it on if the firewall is disabled and Avast is installed? Part of Windows Firewall Security Center Windows or another program?
Guesses are welcome. Thank you.
Hey there Clinton!
I've identified two questions here, your normal text questions and my answers in bold:
Is the Windows Security Center virus protection, or is it simply a place to control and discover whatever you have antivirus protection?
Windows Security Center is not a virus protection it's just simply a place to control and view the status of the installation of malware * protection software, but also the firewall on your computer.
Part of Windows Firewall Security Center Windows or another program?
Windows Firewall is a separate component.
Does Avast! Damaged, if I have another antivirus running program?
It is not clear what might happen, but software may conflict with each other and may not work as expected.
I hope that I have answered all your questions!
Sincerely,
-Alex* - Malware is the generic term for all malicious software in the calculation. The virus is actually a sub-category.

Windows Firewall and Security Center will not be open - Application not found
When I right click on my computer then properties, I get an error message "Application not found c:/windows\system32\rundl32.exe.
In Control Panel, when I click on the Security center and windows firewall, I get the same thing.
In the past, when I click on the above, the properties come with several tabs and the info on my computer and the firewall came to show if it is on or off.
I recently downloaded by Comcast Norton Security Suite. I don't know if this happened before or after that.
Also, I had something like 'XP Active something' burst by saying I had someone trying to hack into my computer and I might have a virus and run a scan now that I did. He came in saying that a list of things have been found and set up a page where I can buy protection for $59.99 per year. I did that and I who sold his to run a scan with Norton. It showed that she had blocked a Trojan horse and had several blocks of attempts to access my computer.
Can someone please tell me what to do? I am not very computer English savvy, so simple and clear please.
Thank you!
Hi, it seems that you have an infection of malicious software on your computer, the best way is to run the Security Scanner
just to go to http://safety.live.com and run a full scan service.

Hi gettaclue2002,
· What is the service pack installed on your computer?
· You have another outside Norton Security software?
Try the methods below:
1. I would say that you stop and start the service on the computer Security Center.
a. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc in the Open box and then click OK.
b. in the list of Services (Local), click on Security Center and then click Properties.
Make sure that you stop and start the service, then check if the problem persists.
2. you can also uninstall and reinstall Norton Security software, and check the results.
Link, please refer to: download and run the Norton removal tool to uninstall your Norton product:http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080710133834EN&ln=en_US
Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Windows Firewall and Security Center will not start, error 1068 and 1079
I can't start my firewall Windows, error: 1079... or Security Center, error: 1068. Can help you with this question? When I try to access the Dependencies tab I get this error: Win 32: the specefied for this service is different from the specefied to account for other services running in the same process.
I checked to see if dependencies were the same account before I got the message of 'Win 32' and WMI Service runs in the same account (Local Service) as firewall and Security Center, but the RPC Service is running on the Network Service account and cannot be changed via the services console, because the account fields are gray and cannot be viewed or modified. I try to avoid using the tool 'SubInACL' because I don't want to reset the whole registry.
Help, please!
The other post:
I had a problem with obtaining the Windows Firewall and Security Center to start. Service account permissions have been changed at some point, including the depedencies. I get the error 1079 on the Windows Firewall and 1068 on the Security Center. Both are defined on the Local Service, but dependence, the CPP is set to Network Service and cannot be changed because the user fields are gray. I try to avoid using the SubInACL.exe because I don't want to reset the whole registry. Can you help me please?

A month ago I made the mistake of trying to brand of ACDSee of security, "ACDOne" which includes software "BitDefender". That's when I lost my firewall and Security Center. BIG MISTAKE! I uninstalled and deleted all the files that I found that have been left.

Problems Windows Security Center, firewall, and Windows Defender.
This problem started about a month in December when I had Windows Vista Home Security 2011 Virus. I followed the steps described in the Guide here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-vista-home-security-2012 to fix (Bleeping Computer). I thought that it would be solved the problem.Recently, I had trouble with my internet. I can connect to my wireless router and everything seems in order, but when I start my computer, I can't view Web pages - I Internet Explorer and Firefox, none of them works. Once I restart my computer, it works like a charm.
While trying to fix this, I realized the Microsoft Security Center and firewall have been disabled. I could not turn them back on. In Services, I neither Security Center or a firewall, and all of the other solutions I tried did not work. Help?
In addition, after checking, the registry values for the Security Center and Windows Defender firewall disappeared. Help please? All the Fixit on the Microsoft Support site failed.
