SAMSUNG SSD 850 helps Pro

Hello

I recently bought and installed the Samsung SSD 256 GB 850 Pro in my mid-2012 13 "MacBook Pro.  Everything seems to work very well; However, when I run the speed test of black magic, I get only between 30-100 read and write speed of 100-250.

The way I installed it was:

-Deletion of original HD

-SSD installed

-Connected via sata/usb HD

-Started and press command and R

-Utility disk-> Erase--> Mac OS Extended journaled

-Reinstalled Mac OS X

-Migration wizard

I am fully able to use my computer as before but I thought I'd get up to 500 MB/s for each.

Is there something I can do to get the maximum speed where they should be?

Thank you

Chris

Hi Vanderveenc:

You have activated TRIM? You run El Capitan and supports the TRIM.

Gasket performance aid.

Read the following article. n-SSDS-explained-an-SSD-primer/ http://www.thessdreview.com/Daily-News/latest-Buzz/garbage-collection-and-Trim-i

It is also very important to have 10% of your free SSD for the garbage collection.

To activate the TRIM, first save all your open documents as this will restart your Mac.

(1) launch the Terminal.

(2) type 'sudo trimforce enable '.

(3) confirm that you want to activate the trim.

(4) restart your Mac.

To check the TRIM is enabled, click the Apple icon at the top left of your screen. Choose "about this Mac"-> 'System report'-> ' SATA/SATA Express' and look for the entry 'Support of Trim. It should say 'yes' if the pad has been activated.

  • ZBook 15u G2: is it possible to upgrade the G2 Zbook 15u from the 500 GB Samsung SSD 850 evo 500 GB SATA HARD disk?

Turns out that the hard drive that I got this laptop when I bought it is not really meet my needs, and I'm looking to upgrade. I looked around, and the EVO of 850 SSD Samsung 500 GB seems a good choice for what I'm looking for.

I just wanted to check if my cell phone is compatible with this ssd. My initial assumption is 'yes' but before I drop money I wanted to confirm this. For reference, I went to the start with the 500 GB SATA hard drive, and I'm looking to upgrade the 500 GB Samsung ssd 850 evo.

I can provide the SN of my laptop for reference, if needed.

    Hello

The simple answer is Yes you can. You can use a standard SSD 2.5 "to replace the current HARD drive. And the Samsung is a good choice.

    Kind regards.

  • Windows will not install Samsung SSD 850 (120GB)

HP Pavilion P600 a SSD 840 existing (~ 250GB) Win7 installed on and runs correctly. Try to install Win 8 (and later I tried 7) fails on nine 850 SSD with Windows UNABLE TO SEE DRIVE AND REQUEST for the DRIVER. (Samsung support says they are plug and play, no drivers needed). Existing Win7 can't see the disks when SSD 850 attached. I tried different SATA ports. I tried a Linux installation to prove that the disks were OK.  Linux installed correctly for the 850 of SSD, but when Win tried to install on top of Linux, the error is 'disc locked'. (I tried Win XP but it blue screened during installation)

Bought two SSD 850 s.  The two discs are new in sealed retail boxes.  Windows disk management does not see the new drive, even after Disk rescan.
Samsung magician sees only the original SSD 840.

Neither of the 850 SSDs accepts the Windows installation.

  • Still slow after Samsung SSD Pro 850

I recently installed Samsung SSD 850 pro on my mbp 2012. There is no significant difference in its speed before and after. Application of test of speed magic Black Watch reading and writing speeds both somewhere between 40 - 60 MB/s. If disappointing! This is the Office Mac Pro forum. I asked that your post moved to the forum of laptop MacBook Pro or another appropriate forum.

  • Slow down the Evo 850 Samsung SSD

Recently, I had a new SSD Samsung 850 EVO and installed on my macbook pro 2009. Using OSX El Capitan.

But the reading and writing speeds I get are:

    Address: 209 MB/s

    Read: 264 MB/s

and I should get about 450 MB for read and write at least. I went through to change the start-up as well as trimming startup disk, but did not help much.

No idea how I can fix this problem? Thank you.

Mbps 2009 have SATA2 connectivity.  You will not be able to experience the full capacity of the Samsung SSD.  You would need a MBP 2011 or newer to realize the full potential of this SSD. (This is when SATA3 connectivity was introduced).

    Ciao.

  • Many BSOD after installing Samsung SSD 840 pro in ThinkPad Lenovo R60

Have an old Lenovo ThinkPad R60 with screen SD that I won't. After installing the Samsung SSD Pro 840 the BSOD started coming, now every week, the last one on today. I don't see the option to download the dump anywhere file, so I enclose a picture with - maybe - some info.

    Can anyone help?

Not at all surprising that involved C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\SYMEVENT. Pilot of the SYS Symantec event library.  I remove it and use MSE in its place

Symantec is a common cause of BSOD.

I remove and replace it with Microsoft Security if you are using Windows 7 and if you win 8 or higher, use the built-in Defender.

  • Windows 8 Pro x 64 boot Samsung SSD

    Hi all

I tried to figure this out for the last couple days. I'm at work now, but I'll try again when I get home. Here is my question-
I recently built my own computer. My pieces are-
    Motherboard ASRock Z77 Extreme 3
    Intel i5 3570 k
SAMSUNG SSD 120 GB (I think that 840 series)
Western Digital 1 TB hard drive
    Graphics EVGA Geforce GTX 660
8 GB RAM (I don't remember the brand of the stick on the top of my head)
I tried to do a clean install of Windows 8 Pro x 64 bit for the SSD. In the Setup screen, it detects two drives and I select the SSD drive and install it on the SSD. He moved very well I can say because no error message appears. But when the computer restarts and boots to the top, rises the symbol of Windows 8, the loading wheel little rises and they are there for about 2 seconds and then they disappear and the screen stays black with no mouse cursor or anything. Just a black screen and there just like that. I end up having to reboot the machine. I've done everything I can think of - I went into the BIOS and made sure the boot sequence is correct. I tried starting the SSD after restarting the machine with no result. The only difference is that when I did this and also removed the x 64 installation disc, Windows 8 comes and says that he was not able to load because it lacks a partition and so I try to troubleshoot it by performing an auto repair and diagnose the problem. When I do this, Windows says it can't auto repair. I did a reset and wiped clean car and tried again, but without any result. I get the screen that shows a partition is missing (and this happens only when I boot from the SSD with the x 64 disk drive) or I get a black screen.
Another thing I tried last night was to reformat the SSD and wipe them off, clean, disconnect the hard drive regularly so that the only smart thing was the SSD and then reinstall windows and try again, but again, nothing has changed; just black screen.
As far as I know, all my pieces are compatible with Windows 8 Pro. I'm at work at the moment, but as soon as I go home, I go back to work on that and I hope that you guys can give me some new approaches to this problem.
    Thank you all

    Hello

It would be better to install Win 8 to the SSD with the other hard drive unplugged...

Win 7 and 8 hide additional start install files on extra drives\partitions to the course. If you install with the attached HARD disk and then remove it later, windows does not start...

Generally, this can be corrected with a startup repair, but I would rather avoid it in the first place...

Format your SSD BEFORE installing Win 8. I prefer to use a 3rd party for this program...

You could get by reformat everything by doing a 'Clean' installation without future issues...

For what is the real cause of your problem, I suspect that you may need to set the SATA mode in Bios to AHCI... I got an OCZ Vertex, which would install OK and start OK after... After that win 8 detected all new material, I would get is a black screen.

Also, make sure that the SATA connector you are using is not configured for Raid...

In addition, try to remove the graphics card and install Win 8 with the HD4000 Intel. Once everything works, then add the NVidia.

I built a similar machine with a surfboard Z77 Extreme 4, and it is on this forum that I had the problem of the AHCI pop up.

  • Samsung SSD upgrade problems

When I try to erase the SSD drive and format it for Mac the procedure fails:

I get: dismount disc, cannot write to the last block of the unit, failed...

I have a MBP end 2011 with El Captan freshly installed and the SSD is Samsung 850 Pro 512 GB.

I've seen a number of problems with the Samsung SSD on these forums.  My best advice is to contact the technical support of Samsung.  Unfortunately, some users responded that the support of Samsung was not very friendly.

My guess is that you may have a faulty SSD and try to return it if possible.

  • SAMSUNG SSD on El Capitan crash / boot problems

Hello all, about two weeks ago, I installed a Samsung SSD in my Macbook Pro mid-2012. Installed fine with El Capitan, but when using the laptop, I have questions where it will freeze and not respond to excessive amounts of time. In this case, I have to restart; However, when the system restarts does not load (sometimes indicating a panic of the core/kext). I then reset PRAM / MSC or head of disk utility, after tampering that I can possibly restart. I thought that the DSS could have been faulty so I went through another new, but the same thing happens. I also noticed that my laptop has also issues freezing when my laptop is moved around, IE picked up and moved from one office to another. Ive used disk Sensei, terminal, and Trim Enabler to allow cutting. Also of note (not sure if this is relevant) but I changed my cable from HARD drive about 2 months ago because my regular HD had problems. If I reinstall my HD comes with the macbook, there's no problem at all. Please help me. This is terribly frustrating.

I recently installed an EVO to Samsung SSD in a 2012 MacBook Pro. So far so good. But on two swaps the previous car, the MacBook Pro 2010, we found that the cable from the hard drive has failed and had to be replaced. The symptoms were almost exactly as you describe. The 2012 has a slightly different cable until 2010, but he runs the same twists and turns, folded in particular the DVD player to the hard drive. It was suggested that I read to put some insulating tape under the cable where it folds on the DVD player.

I know you said you've already replaced the cable, but I wonder if somehow it always is not interface properly with the reader. It is strange that the old drive works OK. Some slight difference in how the pins connect to the drive?

As you know, replacing the cable is not difficult if you are already familiar with the disk replacement. I ordered a cable 2012 when I did the swap, just in case, but have so far not needed it (put the tape in place, however). I found it on Amazon for $19: article #B00KR5QIEU

'NEW disc hard Drvie 821-1480-a cable for Macbook Pro 13 Unibody' A1278 2012 "

Check that it's good for your Mac before ordering if you decide to try a new cable again.

Also make sure that you have transferred screws on the sides from one disk to the other so that it's safe in the case of the computer. (Obvious, I know, but it's easy to Miss).

    Good luck.

  • Edge 15 laptop is not like my SSD, need help if he recognized

    Hello

I have a 15 edge that I decided has reached its time to be upgraded to a shiny new SSD because the old HDD was complete garbage slow to be honest. I have a 500 GB Crucial SSD BX100. I started with the first cloning of the current drive using Acronis True Image 2016, as well as the windows system image backup. I then put the new SSD instead of HARD drive and turned on and got to the installation environment of windows from a USB startup disk and tried a system image restore, but the installer of windows can't see the SSD, it says something as "no disc fixed to show" while in diskpart. I shut down and went into the bios and noticed that the laptop itself cannot see the SSD. I played with the sata controller and tried AHCI with no result. So I took out the disc SSD yet and my other PC to clone the HARD original directly on the SSD drive again using Acronis. He succeeded, but when I put SSDS in the laptop and run it, it actually shows the loading circle and lenovo logo widows, but then after a few seconds, I get a message BSOD saying INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE as the error.

I'm stuck now and don't know what to do. The SSD does not start even when cloned exactly the same as the HARD drive, and I can't try a clean install, because the Setup program can not see ether. If someone knows something to help me get my SDS working in here, I would be very happy!

    Thank you

    PROBLEM SOLVED!

I just wanted to you all what I did to get this to work, unfortunately you won't like it if you bought another brand SSD as I did.

The fix was simple, I dropped the Crucial SSD and bought a new Samsung 850 Evo SSD and installed. The Samsung SSD worked instantly, with ZERO problems or combat, but a nice breeze. I got the opertunity to do tests and tried many other readers of brand, some Crucial, Silicon Power, SanDisk, Kingston and. Guess what I found?

ONLY THE SAMNSUNG SSD WORKS IN THIS LAPTOP!

Why it's like that, I have no idea. But just say to help anyone with this problem who wants an SSD. You can buy a Samsung SSD at the moment, and I hope that the Lenovo gather their stuff and make out a bios update to solve this problem eventually.

  • Advice on moving 1.5 to SATA 2 HARD drive and put the Samsung SSD on SATA 1...

My plan is to make a DVD of W10 MS

    Power off

    Unplug 1.5 to boot/storage HDD SATA 1

    Connect Samsung SSD SATA 1

Turning and fresh install MS W10 on SSD and let it update

Then, can I plug 1.5 to SATA 2 HARD drive and make it just my storage via disk management?

What steps/tips to make this an easy transition?

    Paul

It should not matter if you use SATA1 or SATA2, but there are always exceptions.

I got a motherboard with two different SATA [Intel & Marvel] controllers with different speeds. It is unusual, so the safest bet is to use the same SATA connector for your new SSD that you used for your old HDD.

Since you have two bootable disks, you may need to go into EUFI/BIOS and set your boot order to boot from the new SSD first.

You should be able to access the files on the old drive without problems, but I've seen on occasion where you will get an "Access denied" error due to 'permissions' problems, especially if the original/OS disk has been protected by a password. If you have any questions, you can create a linux live boot disk "to access your files.

Instead keep you the old drive as is, with an operating system and boot volumes on it, you must backup/move your important files to your new SSD then remove all volumes on the old disk, create a volume, and then format to use as a data/backup drive.

    Hello

I replaced my HDD with a SSD, and when I run the Samsung software it say I should use AHCI instead of IDE.
I found a place (Storage Options) in the bios where I can choose between IDE, RAID and AHCI.
    Is this the right place?
