SANHQ 3.0.2 to 3.2.0 upgrade

We're running on Windows 2008 R2 SANHQ 3.0.2 and planning upgrade to 3.2.0. Can we perform inplace upgrade. I read the documentation it says that SANHQ do not support windows 2008 R2 R2 Windows 2012 alone.

How we can export all data and configuration and restore power SANHQ and restore it on the new windows Server 2012 with SANHQ 3.2.0?

Thank you

Hello

Unfortunately, there is no way to export the data, then import the info a new instance of SANHQ.

Other users have continued to monitor their existing groups to save historical data.  Then installed the new server SANHQ on Windows 2012.

Windows 2008 reaches the end of its service life.

Not many suppliers certify new on this older OS.

I spoke in support, and the engineer said, that there was a replacement of these drives due to errors. But they only took contact with customers who have had on a number of disks fail on them (we only replaced one in 5 years).

I just wanted to check here, if anyone else has encountered this error. IM planning on the upgrade of firmware 7.0 Friday and I don't want to have problems with a defective table because of this error.

It fixed itself, once I had firmware 7.0 on my paintings.

Seems to be a problem with the specific drives, 6.0.1 and sanhq 3.0

  • sanhq 2.6 incorrect version number display?

I've updated our 2.5 to 2.6 sanhq yesterday.
But when I run sanhq it's to show the version of the server: 2.5.2000.6748 (in the screen and help on)

But I do not see the new features. (monitor of political reliability of raid)

  • SANHQ 3.0 EPA + retransmission errors

One of the nice new features of SANHQ is announced as this allows me to see what ISCSI connections I retransmissions.

That function is not in 3.0 EPA. or at least something that I am not consistent on it requires.

    My envoriment is running 6.0.7

If I look in the iscsi connections, I see the following columns:

Target, Initatior host name, IP address of the host, Port, connection time, full read, write Total, I/O rates, target Type,.

The manual for 3.0 clearly shows an image (figure 29) another field called percentage retransmit.

This field is missing in my install :(

What should I do for this.

I'll be back a message of support.

The new figures of retransmission appears only if your running with firmware 7.0 EPA EPA 3.0, it does not collect such statistics in version 6.0.7

  • SANHQ - course Ops ARE / s vs estimate the IOPS Max

Hi - I'm a new 4100 with SANHQ - I'm pretty new to it, so I'm digesting a lot of new stuff now.

I look at the estimated Max IOPS is 313 right now, but for the last day, I run between 900 and 1900 IOPS / s. read/write is 58/42%.

So where is the estimated max come from? I'm running at least double the estimated max is right now...

    Thank you

    Ed

    Hello

The estimated max is based on a fixed block size for the calculations.  If you run a different average than that, which would explain what you see.   There is a section in the manual, also available online, which has more information on the interpretation of these figures.

  • Pool and the Volume of data latency does not match the SanHQ

Using some PS6000 (Sata and SAS) as a back-end for ESXi and looking at the graph view on SanHQ and the raw data on export, but I'm not able to give a sense of latency information.

Generally for fields, the data in the column pool or member matches very closely to the sum of the parts of the volume (for IOPS / s, flow, read, write, etc.)

However, latency is not, nor is he anywhere near average either.

In the graphical display we noticed high (20-40 ms) latency playback of our pools and members, but the volumes that make up these pools are all less than 10ms. During a storage vmotion, we will see a huge spike in IOPS / s and latency and sizes KB will drop to almost nothing during the copy rebound back at high levels as the traffic goes down.

Makes a lot of sense to me (except perhaps if seq I/O is reduced to deal with latency)

To monitor latency, it seems that I need to watch the largest volume of latency of a given pool, but not the pool itself or asymmetric information.

I would get a few reports of MS Log Parser against export CSVs, but I need to make sense of this first. Latency is a KPI is no not a lot of sense.

When you see the IOPS rise and the latency goes down, it's actually a normal thing. It is called Nagle algorithm. It makes pretty much the TCP packets wait until they are full before sending them. Here is a document that can be useful, what explains the algorithm more in detail.

    http://SearchNetworking.TechTarget.com/definition/Nagles-algorithm

Until reporting problem you're talking about I would recommend making sure that the last FW is installed on all members of the Group and ensure well the last version of SAN HQ are also installed. Just curious you have configured replication? I can't wait to hear back on your part.

  • SANHQ creation of snapshots?

Hi, we have recently improved our SAN HQ to the latest version, and now, every Sunday, all my LUN with snapshot space take a snapshot.

I have no idea of what he does, but I can confirm that it was after SAN HQ has been updated.

Can someone tell me where I could check and see what service creates a snapshot?

    Thank you

    Nathan

    Hi Nathan,

It is not something you can see in the GUI.  It is already a 'net' for volumes with reserve instant without any snapshots of security.   You can only change or disable the Group CLI.

Tracks by default (DSS) snapshot on volumes with snapshot reserve to something else then zero and do not have a configuration snapshot on demand.  If you set the reserve instant volume to zero (0) DSS will not create the snapshot for a volume.

Also to the CLI of group you can enable/disable or set the time of day where the default snapshot is running:

    GrpName > grpparams by default-snapshot-sched?

Disable - disables the snapshot grid by default.

Enable - enables the snapshot planning by default.

Show - displays the current values for snapshot planning by default.

start-time - value start time of the default schedule of the snapshot.

Also note that if the reserve instant zero you will return the placeholder for the snapshot to the pool.

Therefore to you how you want to handle this.

    Kind regards

    Don

  • SANHQ report of the firmware is up to date after the upgrade

I just updated our SAN we receive alerts about readers being obsolete.  The upgrade was successful, but I still get alerts on this issue.  for example:

Anyone have any idea why this is happening and how to fix it?

    Thank you

You are looking for a tree in the evil forest ;)

or simply click on PS Firmwares, scroll down a bit and extend "Recommended PS Series hard drive Firmware". You will see a cover and download *.tgz and a *.pdf. Download the *.tzg and take a look at the PDF How do to download the tgz and begin the process of updating command line (once again... EQL Groupmanager does not help).

  • SAN HQ on Windows 10 Support

Any idea when the installer SAN HQ will be patched to support Windows 10?  Right now it won't install not because he thinks that .net 4.5 is not installed, when it comes with 10 Windows by default.  Guessing the installer is simply not set up to correctly detect.  Thank you.

I realized a work around that.  Install SanHQ 2.6 on your machine windows 10 then when it opens it will say the version is obsolete and it will upgrade.  On the Server Setup does not check for .NET 4.5.

    Hello

You are running a very old version of SANHQ.   The current version is v3.2.

The first error is quite simple, it seems that the incorrect IP address was used to add to this group.   What the dedicated management interface configured once it has been added to SANHQ?

The 2nd error could be a connectivity issue, old SANHQ, old EQL FW or table was very busy at the time.  It could also be linked to the incorrect configuration error if errors refer to the same group.

What a picture of model and firmware currently running?

    Kind regards

  • EQL MEM Kit - active paths reduced from 4 to 2 after the installation of SDK Dell MEM

    Hello

We currently have 1 group EQL which EQL 1, PS6100XS member. The PS6100XS Member currently has 3 data warehouses. In courses run ESXi 6.0 u2 and MEM kit 1.3.0.410095 (dell-eql-mem-esx6 - 1.3.0.410095). The ESXi host has 4 network dedicated to EQL iSCSI adapters. All networks are confirmed to be installed properly with good ESXi iSCSI Port binding.

Before you install the SDK Dell MEM on the ESXi host, active paths in the vSphere EQL data store shows 4 paths. After you install the SDK Dell MEM, it correctly sets the path to DELL_PSP_ROUTED but the railways reduced to 2 for each data store:

Note: it is not a high volume of traffic again on data warehouses because it was such an environment relatively new.

Any thoughts as to why there are only 2 active channels showing and not 4?

    -Saud

    Hello Saud,

This behavior is quite normal.  MEM and the table negotiating connections as needed.  Each connection consumes memory on the table, reducing the County means that more memory is available for the cache.

Even under load, you won't probably each approach the bandwidth of two GbE NICS.  The only way to get that kind of flow is completely sequential loads with big block.  Then only the backup of servers and video streaming servers generate this kind of load.   Hypervisors tend to be just the opposite.  Since you have multiple VMs all do another IOs load becomes very random storage.  If the back-end storage tends to need of IO on MB/sec rates.

With more than 2 x cards and MEM, MEM will use different cards for different volumes.  For network adapters will get used, but not every NIC for each volume.  If a NIC fails, it will use another NIC to replace.

Also consider what happens to storage.  A PS6100 has 4 x GbE NIC.  If you max 4 x network adapters on a server you would also be max on the Board with a single node.

If you have installed SANHQ you will see this clearly enough.

    Kind regards

    Don
