  You are right. With HDMI audio Cable will pass to your TV too. I assume that there is a problem with the settings. Click on its symbol in the taskbar with the right button of the mouse and choose the option for reading devices.

  Sorry if you have already checked this but make sure MUTE is not checked in the sound settings and also check that the volume levels are not set to 0.

  Not sure if this could be useful for you, but two days ago I had a similar problem.
  The headphones are connected, but no sound, I unplugged the headset and reconnected and the noise seemed not quite sure what causes this but after every reboot I ve to remove the headphones from the headphone jack to get the sound through headphones

  This really looks like a software problem.
  Are you using the same disc region settings when you play these DVDs?
  Do you play original DVDs or copies?

  Sometimes a missing codex might be responsible for these problems.

  What version of Windows are you using?

  Start > right click on computer and select Manage

  Select Device Manager

  Click on the + next to sound, video and game controllers

  Right-click on the driver and select uninstall

  Restart the computer and Windows will reload the driver

  I would say go to the control panel in the start menu and clicking noise. You see an option within this selection for audio output? You may need to select HDMI as the main output device.
