Satellite A10 - boot priority must be changed

Hello world

I have an old Satellite A10 here, and I'm supposed to put a new operating system on it.
Problem: He doesn't let me boot from the CD/DVD!
In the BIOS (APCI BIOS version = 1.30), I can not change the boot priority, which is I can not put the DVD drive as the first boot device.
By pressing F12 or 'C' when you turn on the laptop don't boot options not present either.

In another thread, I read that you can change the boot device by selecting devices to boot images that can be seen under the TOSHIBA sign during the power supply of the laptop is just turned on. How do you do that? The TAB and arrow keys do not work for me...

There in the windows, the utility TOSHIBA HWSetup startmenu which is password protected. In the manual it says that you can change the priority of priming (from inside of windows!), but unfortunately the owner does not remember any password it have probably set, so I can't change the boot sequence for there either.
but in any case it must be possible to boot from the CD without access to windows, where windows no longer works...

Is there yet another possibility to use a "connector wrapping parallel haven" seeing that I don't know how its done or used?

Who has ideas?

THX

Hello

Stand by. You can enter the BIOS settings or BIOS is protected by password too?

I want to re install Windows XP by starting in the CD Rom, but by default, the startup is for HD.

I don't know how for the Windows BOOT PRIORITY to change the setting.

    Please help me!
I would change the Boot Configuration, but impossible in the menu of the BIOS even by perform F12 key when from the laptop.

    Hi nclaude,

Normally, you enter by turning on the laptop by pressing the ESC key, then F1 to bios.

If you can only change the time, it could be that you without administrative rights in the bios.

Perhaps you or someone else has entered a supervisor password to save the bios of unauthorized changes!

But you can also boot CD-ROM by pressing c (for the cd Rom) in the startup process.

    hope this helps you

  • Problem with booting from a cΘdΘrom-Satellite A10 - S513

I have a laptop, Toshiba Satellite A10-S513, who does not want to start from the CD.
To crystallize the problem, when I want to move the arrow (right or left) to access the CD-ROM icon in Start menu, nothing will be selected and it starts automatically from the HARD disk. I tried to change the startup configuration, but I couldn't because the choice of start-up has been grayed out, although I use the account controller BIOS.
What should I do to enable booting from CD, taking into account the fact that I had done the CD several times starting.
    A few tips:
I upgraded the operating system win XP Home to XP Pro and then installed Service Pack 2.

Is there the same situation if you try to boot from the CD drive, hold the C key to the start-up of unit?

    HEY Kees,

There are other utilities that you can use to check your hard disk (Norton Disk Doctor for example) but CHKDSK is as good as all the others.

If you get repeated hard disk problems, then this is a good indication to a new hard drive. I suggest you try to backup your data even if you can't always. I'm not aware of any restrictions on the ability of any hard drive that you choose for your A10, but it must of course be the same as your existing drive form factor. You can also consider using a drive with a speed higher than the original drive.

    Kind regards

  • Satellite A10: Is it possible to upgrade the processor without changing all the other components

I wonder if anyone might know if it is possible to update by Satellite A10 CPU without changing other components. The laptop has CPU Celeron [R] 2.50 GHz 2.49 GHz, 752MB of RAM.

    Hello

If you look at the technical side, then it s surely possible.

But I can say such things why not:

-performance you earn is based on the costs you have marginal
-you lose your warranty if you open your machine and you want to dare the revocation of your warranty?
-the cooling system is aligned to your CPU, in addition, you will need to write such things as CPU microcode. If the tools to write this weird firmware are available for toshiba technicians and not us :(

I have tried several times with all my toshis and believe me: lose money and be disappointed is a very pleasant pastime :)

  • How can I boot from CD on the Satellite A10 - 131

How can I set BOOT priority in the BIOS to CD-Rom?

    HI Gleb,

The normal way to select the boot device is to press the F12 key during the initial ignition process. This will cause the display of the menu 'Boot Device Selection'.

Alternatively, you can try the short cut from Toshiba which is to press the 'C' in the first power.

    Kind regards

  • Should re-install XP on Satellite A10 - I use the restore CD?

    Hello

I have a laptop series satellite (A10), bought new 2 years ago.

Recently it has been running very slow and after a lot of advice, I decided to reinstall windows.

I can do this with the product recovery cd supplied with my computer? I have the 3 original supplied with the computer disks. If it is possible, how? I read on another post (for another series PC Toshiba laptop) that this is to boot from the cd by pressing c when starting the computer - is it right for the A10?

The process is this difficult? I have an external hard drive to back up files, etc.

    Cheers for any help

    Phil

    Hello

If you really want to reinstall your system, use the recovery CD.
First, you should back up your important data on the external drive.

Then, as you already know, boot from the recovery disk #1 by pressing 'C' at the start of the laptop.
(This sometimes does not work, then you will need to press F12 for the boot menu, or press ESC to enter the BIOS to change the boot priority.)

If the computer starts from the disk (Win98), then simply follow the menus that appear (it's really easy!).
But remember, the whole HARD drive will be formatted.

    Good bye

  • Satellite A10-wireless problem

Hello! I have the Satellite A10 with integrated wireless Windows XP Professional. I was trying desperately to make wireless communication integrated works, but without success. Windows has found two "Base system device", and I suspect that one of them is the wireless. I tried to install different wireless drivers that are supplied with the CD for the laptop, but so far without success - Windows refuses to accept these drivers for unknown devices. No idea what I am doing wrong? I downloaded the latest drivers wireless for A10, but nothing has changed. One of my friends suggested that the BIOS must have a setting to toggle wireless, but I couldn't find this setting in the BIOS. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hello
Initially, you are sure that your computer has preinstalled absolute Wifi?

To be sure about you could give me the complete Modelnumber or serial number.

I am so lucky to find the installed equipment.

  • satellite A10: no com3 don't dailtone

We have a toshiba satellite A10 with a modem internal toshiba. (XP OPERATING SYSTEM)
We lost the connection while working, and when we tried to reconnect there was no dial tone.

the modem works fine after interrogation he under the modem diagnostics, but just to be safe, I also tried another card modem with the same results.
the line is very good, I use it now.
in Device Manager, I could not see an entry for the ports, so I did a scan of hardware, but which does nothing and then I added a Compote via the Add Hardware icon in Control Panel. This solves the problem I couldn't see the ports in the Device Manager but now the thus created com3 has a yellow exclamation point and tells me that the device cannot start code 10.

So I deleted all the devices of yellow exclamation point and the modem, then restarted and after that the modem is immediately recognized and installed but her agrees not and they must be added manually with the same result of yellow exclamation point.

Some people suggest I get into the bios and remove or disable the ports and then start but bios does not even an entry for the ports. I get into the bios by keeping ESC pressed to the commissioning and in fact Toshiba adds a nice button on the control panel with HWsetup that gives the same options.

so now, I ran out of options and turn to experts for help.

    Thanks, Leo

    Hello

Code 10 means that this device cannot start. I'm a little confused about your problem. First COM 3 is a virtual port and it is normal that this port is invisible. If this port is visible, it must be with exclamation yellow because it's the virtual port, no real hardware. But it is not necessary be installed with the Add Hardware Wizard.

Your problem can be caused by many things.

    1. delete all entries with yellow exclamations. Search for hardware changes again. Now new modem is installed, and my opinion is that should now work correctly. But remember: you must make the new dial-up network connection and old must be deleted. It is very important because the old a lot of content of information settings that installed new Modem cannot use more. Also check the properties of your modem.

    2. after the installation of your modem card, there may be some conflicts with Modem from Toshiba. If you do not use the modem card all maybe more, is useful to delete all installed software.

    3. it is also possible that you have some dialer installed on your machine. Check it!

If that doesn t work, please let us know. And if you create your connection again, tell us what a problem was.

  • Problems about my mouse usb (Satellite A10)

    Hi all!
To easily write my thesis, I bought a Trust friend mouse to use it on my Satellite A10. When it is connected to the usb port, the mouse is recognized by windows, but I can move the pointer only vertically. Mouse instructions say to disable the touchpad in the Bios, but I don't know how. What is a possible solution? What can I do?
    Thank you!

    Hello

Start your laptop and the meadows to the bottom of the ESC key. After that, you can see statement you just inside the BIOS with the F1 key. Check please if you can find the settings for the pointing device. There are a few options. You can change it with the space bar. I don't know, but there must be option called simultaneous or something like that.

In this case, you can use the internal and external mouse at the same time. I would like to know if it works properly. ;)

    Good bye

  • Satellite A10: Cannot recover system with recovery CD

    Hej everyone!

I was struggling with a strange problem lately, I can not understand yet, so if anyone has any ideas so pls...

I have 2 laptops Satellite A10. I lost the CD of recovery to one of them, so when I tried to reinstall the laptop I decided to use the other one recovery CD to do that because they are the same... at least I thought they were...

I repartitioned the laptop with fdisk and made the partition active, formatted and then when I boot with the recovery CD, it began, began to dump files, but about 20%, he just say 'impossible recovery' or something "partition is not active" and restart. When I rebooted, it saw that the format of the C partition was gone (he said unformated or damaged partition).

Now, I tried 1 partition, 2 partitions, FAT32 and NTFS, no joy... I think you must have some special configuration of partitions to ensure the success of the recovery, but I don't know how.

I have not tried to reinstall the other laptop with the recovery CD because I'm afraid that it's too bad...
    Can someone help me pls?
    BR
    / Linus

    Hello Linus

Before you begin the recovery procedure, it can't do anything. Simply start the recovery procedure. I don't really know why the recovery procedure stops after 20%, but please do not prepare HARD drive before using the recovery procedure delivered.

If I remember well you have two options before the start of the recovery procedure: standard and expert mode. If you use the standard mode is wiped the entire HARD drive and recovery image will create a partition (the whole HARD disk capacity). Using expert mode you can create a clean partition and later in management of the disks (under WXP) create the second logical partition.

Please try both options. If the recovery CD is not damaged I really don't see any reason why the recovery procedure can be done successfully.

  • CL10-B-100 satellite - cannot boot from USB Live of Linux

I just bought a Satellite CL10-B-100 (PSKVEE - 00300CG 6) with only 8.1 Windows preinstalled. I need to boot from a linux live usb - without success now. No MSC instead of UEFI option available in BIOS. Secure boot disabled, USB set as first boot priority option. The latest version of the BIOS, I found online is the same as on the computer - 1.00

Any suggestions on how to start from USB Linux?

    Good day

    C.

    Hello

Most modern distributions should be able to start using the UEFI.
However, you forgot to mention what distro you are using.

I assume that your pressing F12 at startup to get the start menu, verify that your key is recognized and select to start him?
Which means that it fails? No not at all, start it begins to start but fall into problems... ?

    Please clarify the situation.
