Satellite A100-233 against Satellite M100-164

Hello! I am considering buying a Satellite A100-233 or M100-164. I was looking on the specifications for each, and I found that they are very similar (almost identical except for the size of the screen). However, I see that the M100-164 Toshiba Enhanced SpeedStep (referred to under "special functions"), but nothing on Toshiba Enhanced SpeedStep is mentioned for the A100-233. Does this mean that the A100-233 does not Toshiba Enhanced SpeedStep? If so, it means that the laptop A100-233 runs always full speed / full capabilites and never in a 'power saving' mode when idle? It has nothing similar to SpeedStep in there?

Except for this detail, is there a reason why the M100-164 is better than the A100-233? I'm tempted to go for the A100-233, because it has a bigger screen, but if anyone could report a valid reason why the M100-164 is better, then I might change my mind.

I'd appreciate really any info on the subject. Thank you!

Hello

It depends on the CPU if the device supports a SpeedStep® technology.
A100-233 supports Intel Core Duo (Yonah) T2300 1.66GHz
M100-164 supports Intel Core Duo (Yonah) or Intel-Pentium-M (Yonah) T2300 1.66GHz

I think that the Intel-Pentium-M supports SpeedStep® technology.
In addition, Toshiba's energy saver has been preinstalled on two laptops.

  • You can install satellite M100-164 - what hard drive?

    Hello

I have a Satellite M100-164... This is a version of Middle East the M100, almost identical to the European version, as far as I can tell.
    (short only model no psma0e)

I want to install a new hard drive. The specification says he uses a 5400 RPM Serial - ATA hard disk.

I can use any hard disk of this type, or are there other things to monitor (for example depth of drive, the pin configuration?)

for example can I use this drive:
"Toshiba MK2555GSX 250 GB 2.5 SATA HARD drive internal
    [http://www.amazon.co.uk/Toshiba-MK2555GSX-250GB-2-5-Inch-Internal/dp/B002752SLU]

... or I should he play safe and use one that explicitly says its for the M100, for example this one on Ebay:
    "250 GB hard drive Toshiba Satellite L35-L45 M100, M105"
    [http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/250Gb-Hard-Drive-Toshiba-Satellite-L35-L45-M100-M105_W0QQitemZ190276248831QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Co mputing_HardDrives_RL]

    Thank you

    Hello!

On the SATA drives, there is no capacity limit and you have on each HARD disk the same pinout. This means that you can use each SATA HDD you want and also SATA2 hard drives because they downgrade compaitible then standard SATA1.

However, you can buy the cheaper version on Amazon. This HARD drive should work as well in Notepad.

    I hope I could help a bit.

    Good bye

  • Satellite M100 - 164 (PSMA0E) - Toshiba need recovery disk

    Hello!

My sister has a Toshiba Satellite M100 - 164 (PSMA0E) which used it for 2-3 years.

I formatted. Year last to install Windows Vista. But, unfortunately, I also deleted the partition hidden for this upgrade. In addition, as you can guess, I didn't create the recovery media, before my formatting. She started to say that she's not happy with the system and asked me to convert it to its previous state.

In the forum, I saw that the user {color: #ff0000} * ["locojava" asked a question on a driver he was looking for his PSMA0E | http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/message.jspa?messageID=199573#199573] * {color}. I wanted to respond to the thread, but it was locked.

So, I would be grateful, if "locojava" or any what M100-164 of the users who have the recovery media would contact me in order to find a solution. I want to do a clean install to make her happy with the laptop to factory settings. I can also buy the CD to chip away at to fix the problem.

    Thank you.

  • Re: Satellite M100-164 - how to get the recovery disk?

Hi, I have a used Satellite M100-164. (short only model no psma0e)

Its a M100 changed for the Middle East market as well far as I can tell its basically the same as the European models of M100, except with a smaller hard drive.

I bought it in a store of play (Computer Exchange in London), but it did not come with a recovery disk.

Also, I was a little too active pro removing unwanted software of the machine, so I have not installed the Toshiba tools that would be able to create a recovery disk.

Now I need one because I want to install a bigger hard drive and then re - build the operating system (which is XP)

    * So my question is, where and how do I get a recovery for this notebook drive? *

I tried to use https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu, but it did not work because the serial number was not recognized (probably because it is a region of the Middle East series no)

is there another way to get the Toshiba recovery disks? I'm happy to pay a little for one.

    Hello

In most cases it is possible to get the EPA recovery disc in your country.
But this is not always possible if the laptop model is too old or abandoned.

Therefore, get in touch with the ASP guy and ask for more details.
Maybe you are a lucky man and could get this disc.

If you will not get this disc, you will need to install the OS by using the MS XP disk.
Pilots must be placed on the page of Toshiba Europe!

    Hi Kavo,

The recovery discs are unfortunately not available for download. They can only be purchased through an authorized Service partner. In my view, that it is a condition of the agreement with Microsoft OEM license.

    Hi Ashata

I agree with Miro. You can use the option of Toshiba to create the own driver and Tools CD or if you visit the page of the Toshiba driver.

Here you have to choose the good laptop and then you will see all the available drivers and tools.

  • Satellite M100-164, dosen't start, blue flashing light

Yesterday, after returning home from work, I played my favorite game World of warcraft. I was playing on the bed and I was too lazy to go and put it to load, so I went with the game running on the computer, I wake up the next day and of course the battery is exhausted, so I'll and load and I m in shock, he doesn t turn on and keeps a blue light on the first flashing LED , where it shows the if it is supported or not.

So whenever I press the power button, of course it will not connect. I tried to turn on without the battery, same problem and always blue light. Please, I would like an answer to this question, because I'm a pretty active raider and I urgently need my laptop game (this is displayed through my laptop to friends).

    Thanks in advance, Merlah

HM, doesn't sound good. Please, try the following:

Remove the battery and the AC of the machine and wait for a day. Then try to turn on, is it Wona´t turn on the first time try again (2-3) times. Try it with and without the battery.

Maybe it is blocking just somewhere. Otherwise I suggest you bring the machine to a technician/service center and let check your machine on some malfunctions of equipment.

  • Satellite M100-233: stops right after the "XP" logo

    Hello
I have a Satellite M100-233 with XP Home Edition SP3 (in Portuguese)
When it is connected to the mains and the battery is not fully charged, sometimes the yellow light does not shine.
Check the voltmeter application when this happens, tells me that the battery is on, the energy source is the sector, but the battery runs down.
As I continue to use the laptop, the amount of the battery is reported as progressively less, until he tends to zero, then the laptop just turned off, as if she was not connected to the mains.
Even if I start with the battery charged to 100%, after a couple of hours (sometimes more, sometimes less) the same thing happens.

From an authorized dealer, they told me that it was probably a short battery shorted out.

Get not that: * if she take the battery out of the laptop and turn it on:
-Most of the time it turns off right after the "XP" logo.
-It seems that this happens more often when the battery was fully charged the last time that I used it (strange! "I imagine this?)
-Also sometimes happens after that I use the laptop for a while

The only unusual bios message I get is "no TPM or TPM has a problem." I guess it has to do with the cryptographic protection, so I imagine that this has nothing to do with this issue.
About two years ago, there was a problem with the battery (it ceased to be recognized as present by the laptop) which has been repaired under warranty: they told me that they had replaced the motherboard then. However, at this time there that I could continue to work normally without the battery, which is not the case now.

I would be grateful for any advice. The most annoying is that this problem follows an irregular pattern, and the diagnosis, the dealer gave me seems hard to believe. As I use my laptop to collect data for research abroad, it is quite a risk for me to use it if I can't be sure when it will turn off on its own.

    Hello

To be honest, I doubt that anyone here in the forum would be able to provide an exactly the answer to this question
I think that it of almost impossible to say what's wrong without running any hardware checks.

But to me it looks like a card mother number possibly it s power of electronic power supply which is part of the motherboard.

What to say, maybe you need a new motherboard, but the new mobo is an expensive item, and in my opinion, you should first check if it is s to replace the motherboard or buy a laptop second hand for the same money.

  • Satellite A100-233: can I use the WiFi for the Peer to Peer network?

    Hello
Me & my friend have Satellite A100-233, we cannot have network even see ourselves at the TOP unless we are in place contain the wireless Internet Modem.
If we cannot make network peer-to-peer between us using WiFi?

    I hope you can help!
    Thank you

    Hello

I don't know if I understand your question, but you want to connect two laptops via the WLan. Am I wrong?
Well, this type of network connection is called Ad hoc.

Choose Start-> settings-> network connections, and then click the local network connection you want to share. On the left side of the screen under the management of the network, click on "change settings of this connection. Under the Advanced tab, under Internet connection sharing, check the box "allow other users of the network to connect through this computer's Internet connection".
There is also a check box to allow other users to enable or disable the Internet connection, if you are so inclined. If your network doesn? t need to access to the Internet, you can skip this paragraph.

The host system must also be configured with an Ad Hoc network connection and a Set Service identify (SSID). Right-click on the wireless icon in the system tray and choose "view wireless networks". Do NOT yet connect to any wireless network that could appear in the box. Click the Advanced button. This will bring up the Properties window of wireless with the wireless networks tab at the front. Click the Advanced Options button at the bottom right of this tab, select the option "networks from computer to computer (ad hoc) only". Make sure that the box "Auto connects to the non preferred networks" is NOT checked. Click the close (once) button to return to the wireless network tab.
Under preferred network, click Add. You now need a SSID for this machine, which is actually the name it will use to announce themselves to the other members of the ad hoc wireless network.

  • Satellite A100-233 - what memory I need?

    Hello

I have the Satellite A100-233 and I want to increase its memory. The question is, if my card MOM, can I put DDR2 memory with 667 MHZ speed or I use only 533 MHZ?

    Thank you

    Hello

It according to your chipset you ;)

If you want to just buy a second memory module, I'd be the same module as the first. So that you know its module is compatible with the laptop and normally two identical modules must be used in the book to avoid problems of incompatibility.

But as far as I know A100-233 can handle up to 667 MHz modules. If the first module runs with 533 MHz, the second module will work also on 533 MHz. This means that the modules are compatible downgrade.
