Satellite A100-991 - cannot boot from USB device

My Satellite A100-991 (MS Windows XP MCE, SP3) does not start from a USB key or USB hard drive. The same USB devices are bootable if they are connected to a desktop computer or a laptop from other manufacturers. I put the USB as the first boot device and use an image "Bart PE" on my USB device.

In fact, I have installed 2.10 Phoenix Bios version and I wonder if I could update the BIOS by using the 'sa105v21.exe' program and that this would resolve the startup problem.

Hello

Have you tested different USB keys? I think that your current USB key is not compatible
Also test the USB to different USB ports. A port may be defective for the computer to start t with him.

Theoretically, you can try upgrading the BIOS but don t forget s a bit more risky and it should be the last step.
Prior to this, load default settings in the BIOS and check if you can boot from USB.

First of all, I hit "F2" to enter the BIOS Setup page, there are only 3 options under the boot device: hard drive, CD/DVD, network. I restart the computer and press "F12" to select the boot device, still no USB.

  • Re: Satellite NB10T-A-101 - cannot boot from USB key

    Hello

I bought a new Toshiba Satellite NB10T-A-101 and want to improve performance by changing the HDD with a SSD and install windows Pro 8.1.

However, I am unable to boot from USB, it always mention:
+ Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key. +

I already disabled secure, used 5 + usb startup different sticks (work fine on other laptops).

Can you please tell me what the approach is to change the HARD drive and then boot from a USB bootable (UEFI).

    Thank you.

    Hello

Laptop Satellite NB10T-A-101 was equipped with an Intel CPU 2810 n which is part of the new Intel Bay Trail-M platform.

This new technology Intel Bay Trail allows installation of UEFI capable systems:
    Win 8 or 8.1 Win

    Just a few questions:
Have you already changed the HARD drive to SSD drive?
If so, the new SSD is recognized in the BIOS?
Have you tried to boot from the USB flash memory stick 8.1 Win until you changed your SSD drive?

  • Boot from USB devices or local drives in VMWare

I have a 4 Gb WinXP SP3 bootable USB Thumb Drive and wanted to try to boot into VMWare Workstation 7. I can add it to the readers of VMWare, and its listed connected between removable devices, when a virtual machine starts, but he won't start him, just goes straight to a CD ISO (if connected) or a network (which is not available) boot disk. In VMWare machine BIOS there is no option key USB Boot-Portable devices, and it is not listed among the drives in the BIOS. Despite I can boot from it on a real PC from USB HD. Which can be a problem and how to fix it?

VMware does not support starting directly from USB devices.

    Hello:

We must go into the BIOS, turn on legacy mode and disable secure boot to install W7.

Then you must also run this tool to set the USB3 drivers in your W7 usb flash drive.

  • Need to boot from USB device with my Portege 7020ct

    Hello!

    I need help!

situation: me and my girlfriend go on a long trip on Tuesday. We have to work, so we bought a second hand portege 7020ct.
However, there is no CD or diskette drive. Win98 is installed but no drivers for the modem. infrared can locate other computers, but is not able to connect.
so the rare thing I have is a usb connector.

I want to install win2000 or at least put some data on the hard drive.

So I need to use my external cd drive or usb key. the problem is, the system (usb port) find the external hard drive and the USB, but I need to install drivers to prepare! But how? --> no internet, no floppy drive, no internal cd, without infra-red...

    What can I do?

I tried to get into the bios to see if it is possible to boot from the usb slot, maybe get the external drive runnin and then install win2000.
but I canĀ“t know how to get into the bios! .. .but I m don't know if it will work.

How do I enter the bios?
Anyone have any idea what I can do? How can I get drivers in the system?
How can I get the disc runnin external or USB?

Please, I beg you! I need help very quick, cause tomorrow is my last day...

    Thanks to everyone in advance
    Deko

    Hi Deko,

The key in the power up takes you to the BIOS settings.

Installing the drivers could be difficult. I have a 7010CT and there is no option to boot from USB (only floppy - HDD - CD - lan). I don't think that Windows 98 supports USB sticks without additional drivers. I upgraded from Windows 98 to Windows 2000 by using a PCMCIA cdrom external and from the installer of Windows 98. Maybe you could try to use a network card PCMCIA to try to find a disk for the Portege.

A key USB bootable you have created by recovery media creator?

Go into the BIOS, use the tab of the System Configuration.

    Enable Legacy Support.

Plug the USB key into one of the usb ports.

Press the F10 key to save the changes and exit.

Now, press the F9 key to select the first boot option.

You should see the USB key as one of the options if it is in fact a bootable flash drive.
