  I just baught my GF a PC Toshiba laptop refurbed for his 21st birthday from a reliable source, it's a Satellite Pro L300.

  I started it until all the setup stuff, me there only to find that the keyboard and the touchpad work not AT ALL.
  The keyboard caps lock key is not even lights up when I press it.
  I downloaded all the latest drivers for EVERYTHING Inc. the touchpad, it makes no difference.

  I'm quickly running out of ideas and come to accept the fact that the keyboard and the touchpad is maybe defective and therefore evil must give my GF a defective laptop for Denise 21st, not happy :(

  I installed Windows 7 (32 bit) on my Satellite Pro A210 and have a similar problem. When it starts OK but after hibernation the keyboard and touchpad stop working after 3 minutes. The only way to fix it is a re-boot of the force.

  If yes then the keyboard has been recognized and works!

  I'm starting this thread that I have problems with my fingerprint reader and my USB port.

  I have a Toshiba Satellite A300-C01 laoptop. It was purchased in September of last year. I have not used it much except for the first week I had it, I've been away (Overseas), and I didn't take my laptop with me (I took a former I).   I also met a problem with the fingerprint reader. A pop up appears in the lower left side of the screen and say that the fingerprint reader was having problems.   First of all, you should try to update the chipset drivers and software of fingerprint. The two you can find on the Toshiba site:

  If it doesn't work you should try to update the BIOS. Check the Toshiba site for an update.

  In the worst case, you must reinstall the laptop with the Toshiba recovery disc. So you can make sure if it s a hardware issue or not.

  If the warranty is valid, you can contact the ASP in your country for a verification of the material.

  If the warranty is not valid, you can first check if the keyboard cable is properly connected to the motherboard.
