Satellite A300 - USB port and fingerprints issue

Hello

I'm starting this thread that I have problems with my fingerprint reader and my USB port.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A300-C01 laoptop. It was purchased in September of last year. I have not used it much except for the first week I had it, I've been away (Overseas), and I didn't take my laptop with me (I took a former I). There is no chance that the laptop has been used so that I was absent because I live alone and that the cell phone was simply sitting in the computer room.

I started using it again about 3 weeks. Around a week ago, I noticed a pop-up (bottom left of the screen) telling me that a USB port had problems. I put my FlashDrive on the first USB port and at first, it was not recognized. I tried with another flash drive I have and who has been recognized. However, every time I start the computer I get who pop up telling me that there is a problem with the USB port.

I also met a problem with the fingerprint reader. A pop up appears in the lower left side of the screen and say that the fingerprint reader was having problems. Happened since then that the problem with my USB port began to appear. About an hour ago, I checked the Device Manager and the fingerprints fingerprints/biometrics scanner does not appear in Device Manager.

Has anyone else had this type of problem?

What did you do to solve it?

I would appreciate comments that I have no other choice at this time until Monday when the Toshiba support is available (they are available Monday to Friday).

Thanks in advance,

Deanne.

First of all, you should try to update the chipset drivers and software of fingerprint. The two you can find on the Toshiba site:
http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com-online decision-making supported Downloads & => Download drivers

If it doesn't work you should try to update the BIOS. Check the Toshiba site for an update.

In the worst case, you must reinstall the laptop with the Toshiba recovery disc. So you can make sure if it s a hardware issue or not.

    Hello

I'm looking for suggestions or ideas how to deal with the problem of keyboard and the touchpad, which occurred just after I installed the new operating system. I changed from Windows Vista to Windows 7 and my keyboard and touchpad become inactive after a few minutes of starting the system. It is not serious if I write something or not, the unit works for a short time, then turn off automatically. I tried to find updates the driver but failed to come through what might be the solution. It is difficult to work with the screen keyboard so I hope that you will be able to help me.

I have Satellite A300-1LI and I installed clean Win7 32-bit using the Microsoft installation disc and all devices are working properly including the keyboard and the touchpad.

Have you installed Win7 upgrade or clean the Win7 version?
Have you used Microsoft installation CD?
In General, keyboard and touchpad must work without any additional driver.

  • Xcdt satellite 2540 - USB port to use a USB key?

Hello... I would like to give my old Tohsiba (Satellite 2540XCDT) my aunt to use either a connection dial-up / ADSL / ADSL2.

It has a USB port - this port can be enabled to take a USB? Download a driver for it? Where can I find a driver for this system?

(Recently I hooked a new Lexmark printer into the USB port and managed to get the printer doesn't work after loading software CD - a little slower than the old connection with the HP Inkject printer, but works nevertheless.) .... Made me think that maybe I could get a memory stick for this?

Also... Any chance I can still switch from Windows 98 to Windows 2000 online? And it would help at all with performance improvement? Or cause complications more?

And... ADSL or ADSL2 will be better than just using a slow dial-up? (or is this old system quite simply too slow anyway?)

... It used to work fine on just dial-up, although the memory buffer (or course) on video content - and I always think that one probably even with ADSL/2?) ... But things have changed there! (my new Toshiba Satellite XP a is zero, so I don't know how this old system would work these days?) Any comments?

    Hello

    > It has a USB port - this port can be enabled to take a USB? Download a driver for it? Where can I find a driver for this system?

Looks like you are using Win 98 OS is usually very old new Microsoft operating systems; Windows Me, 2000, XP and Vista include the Generic USB drivers and it is not necessary to install any USB drivers but more old OS like Win 95 or 98 needs USB drivers Win

    See this page:
    http://www.technical-assistance.co.UK/KB/usbmsd98.php

You would be able to download the USB drivers to use the USB flash memory.

    > Any chance I can still switch from Windows 98 to Windows 2000 online
No, I don't think this is possible if you want to use W2K then you need to purchase this OS, but since it is an old OS I doubt you could buy this OS.

During the last few days I been dealing with the issue that my laptop does not recognize the usb ports and wifi. After several reboots, it works fine. My drivers are up to date, so I don't know why, I'll have this terrible problem.

    Welcome @hildergarn,

Thank you for visiting the Forums HP's Support and welcome! It is an excellent site to find answers and ask questions. I understand that you have a problem with your Wi - Fi and USB ports on your laptop from HP.

My first suggestion would be to use the wireless network troubleshooting and Internet tool. At the bottom it will ask you questions to help you diagnose the problem.

Please take a look at this great Charter called troubleshooting wireless network and Internet. This document will help you to solve the problem of Wi - Fi.

Have you tried to restore the BIOS?

Have you tried to connect directly to the Modem/Router?

You have uninstalled the driver in Device Manager?

Please try to uninstall the driver in Device Manager by using the following steps:

    • Go to the Device Manager.
    • Expand network adapters.
    • Right-click on all NICs individually.
    • Click on uninstall.
    • Restart the laptop twice.

What you are trying to connect via USB?

Are - what you happened to try to use the HP Support Assistant?

Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant, if you not him have not yet tried. Simply download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that need updated.

Here are other troubleshooting steps that may help too. If the USB device does not appear in Device Manager, then it might be a question of power requirement. Unplug the machine and perform the following steps until the device is detected:

    • Reboot the laptop
    • Plug in and wait five seconds.

    • If the device does not appear, try connecting to another USB port.

    • If the USB device is displayed in Device Manager after you connect the cable to a different port, then uninstall and reinstall the software of USB device driver.

If the device is not recognized in any port, unplug it and go to the next step.

    • Open the Device Manager.
    • Double-click Bus USB controllers,

    • Double-click on a USB root hub,

    • Click the Power tab

    • Click on properties of power supply (if it is displayed).

Devices need that are connected to the hub are shown, as well as the power they have. If the total displayed power is more than 500 mA, remove the devices and use a hub powered.

    • Continue looking at the properties of the power of each USB hub. If the total power required exceeds the total available power for the hub, then remove a device on this hub to a decrease in the number of consumption.

    • Plug in and wait five seconds. If the device is not recognized, unplug and go to the next step.

Please note; Remove USB cables at high speed that are more than 3 m (9.8 ft) in length and use cables at high speed that are shorter than 3 m.

  • Satellite 1800: USB Port does not allow the IPod to work

    Hello
    I have a portable Satellite 1800-314
    I bought a new IPod.
When I connect it to the laptop, it does not work.
There is a message that says: we need more speed into the USB port and it seems that the port is not the right one for the IPod.

Do I have to update the Bios as well?

    I need a big help!

    Thank you

    Stef

    Hello

As far as I know the Satellite 1800-314 uses USB version 1.1.
It seems that your IPod needs a high performance USB (Version 2.0)
Unfortunately, the BIOS update help doesn t. You can change t the USB 1.1 to USB 2.0.
I think that the only way to connect the IPod is to use the PCMCIA card.

    Good bye

    Hello

You can try to refresh the USB ports and the controllers that appear in Device Manager.
Disconnect all USB devices and go to Device Manager.
    Here, expand USB area controllers.
Now delete all USB host controllers and hubs root USB in the list.
After this reboot of the laptop.
Finally, the Windows operating system should start and should recognise all USB devices once again. Now connect a USB mouse and check if you can use it.

  • Satellite A300-20 b and cooling problem

    Hello

I have Toshiba Satellite A300-20 b and I have a cooling problem. Since I have this laptop I ve been tracking the temperature of the CPU and found out I got the maximum temperature was about 80 c. The strange thing is that the cooler starts only when the CPU reaches this high temperature, if it isn't the cold remains off.

Another weird thing is that once it is not blocking the cooler starts. It stops only if I restart or shut down the computer. Is this normal? Should I worry about something? Thank you very much for your answers.

  • Pavilion a6120n: USB ports and slots memory card does not

My Pavilion a6120n desktop computer has worked brilliantly since I bought it. Since last week the 2 front usb ports and 2 unused usb ports in the back have stopped working. My printer is plugged into a rear port and my wireless mouse is plugged into a second rear port and these work very well.

I use usually a USB key for the exchange of data or card reader locations (which have also stopped working). I no longer see memory card icons in the window 'computer '. When install something again the "new hardware found" statement appears, but the driver install always fails. I think it's a software problem, but there is no usb drivers to download on the HP/support site that I can find... so...

Here's what I've tried so far.

Run antivirus software. Full scan & scan memory - no problem

Don't scan complete malewarebytes - no problem

I tried to reboot several times without success.

Catering to several previous = failure restore points

Computer restart in repair = failure mode

Use the repair disk I did = failure

Control the management of the power supply for each usb port see if power was properly routed = ok

Removed the cover of the housing and carefully inspected the cables and connectors.

Finally I tried to uninstall the drivers usb = failure

After restarting the computer the last time that the boot file has failed, and after several hours of attempting a repair, I had to reinstall Windows 7 completely.

Still no usb or memory card function.

    Any help would be appreciated

    Thank you

OK, after a lot of frustration and a reflection to when the problem started. I discovered it all started when I installed my new HP Envy 4500 printer all-in-one. It has wireless capabilities, but I installed it via a usb cable.  I just didn't know it would be the problem but I started with this premise.

I got all components usb of the computer (except the mouse at the moment). So I uninstalled all the usb drivers I had on Device Manager.

After restart, drivers loaded automatically and everything works fine now. I see my camera via the connection cable, the work now in sd slots and all the work of the usb.

I left the 4500 want connected and installed the printer with the network provided on the installation disc software. I test printed from my computer and iPod so far, and it still works properly.

I did have to reinstall Vista. Could it have been a glitch in the installation of the software want to through the usb cable? Don't know and don't care at this point. Just happy that everything works.

Thanks for the comments, and I consider this problem to be solved.

rThen your question isn't specific to Windows 7, you must consult the manufacturer. You should be able to disable the USB via the BIOS ports. Also, why do you want to set the optical drive as read only? If it is shared? If so, the advanced sharing disk properties, from there, you can set permissions on the drive. "Deleting" a file does not actually delete it marks just the space
also available to be used. There are third-party programs that can
sometimes recover deleted files. The problem is that the space used by
the file is likely to be replaced very quickly, and it makes
    the unrecoverable file.

So your chances of successfully recover this file are decent if you
Try it again immediately after the deletion of it and go quickly
downhill from there. If you have used the computer since then (for
example to write this question and read this answer), your chances may
    be very poor now.

But if the file is large enough, it's still worth a try. Stop
using the computer in question immediately, if you have not done
already. Download an undelete program (and here's one:)
    http://www3.TELUS.NET/mikebike/restoration.html but there are several
others to choose from; Do a search) on a friend's computer (do not
it on yours because that would overwrite the files you want
Undelete) and bring it to you on a CD or thumb drive to try.

If that fails, your only recourse is to bring or send the disc
a company of professional file recovery. This kind of service is very
expensive and may or may not work in your case.
