  I think you forgot to install Toshiba value added Package this package contains the driver for these buttons (lighted) media where you can start Windows media player, for example.

  You should check the Web from Toshiba site again and search for VAP also indicated for Satellite A300. Download and install the package and after I restarted the lighted buttons should start working.

  I have Toshiba Satellite A300 1 portable PC series since 2008.

  I never had this problem on my Satellite A300, but this happens only in sleep or hibernation mode too?

  It's really hard to say why this happens but make sure that you have installed all the software fixes for Vista and maybe you should try to reinstall Vista using Toshiba recovery disc. Maybe an application of part 3 is originally this gel.

  I have an A30, and I tried a bios update to 4.2 which is the latest version for my model. BIOS update went well spent, that it prompted me to restart the laptop once the process is complete, but after this, I was not able to start.   You have a laptop A300D. It s a series different and, therefore, you couldn't t use the BIOS files designed for A300 series!
  This may damage the module ROM and mobo!
  You can find the latest version of the BIOS on the Toshiba European page of the driver... otherwise, you will need to contact the ASP in your country for assistance, or an older version of BIOS.

  It of a normal behavior that HARD drive would go a lot faster using the AHCI SATA mode.
  If the SATA mode would be compatible in the BIOS then your HDD would be much more slowly and it would take more time to access the data on the HARD drive
