Satellite A300 - upgrade to Windows 7 32-bit or 64-bit?

Hello

Im not sure what to do. And I can't find you an answer google hollow.

I have a portable satellite A300 and upgrade to Windows 7 but im do not know if I need to upgrade to the 32-bit version of Windows 7, I have now the operating system is 32-bit vista. Or can I also upgrade to the 64 bit version of Windows 7. I don't know if the system can handle and coop with the 64-bit version.

Is there anyone with a clear answer?

Thanks in advance

Welcome Gerald

Hey mate,

Thank you for your comments! :)

If you have Vista 32 bit you can only change to Windows 7 32 bit. For the 64-bit version, you need to do a new installation, upgrade is possible on Vista 64-bit.

    Hello Joe

    I also prefer the new installation of operating system more update/upgrade at installation level.
    In the history, I see a problem only. Don t install Win7 start Toshiba Win7 support on Toshiba s. be sure support page that all Win7 drivers are available and ready for download.
    Did you already check Toshiba support under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com page?

    I assume that you got your laptop pre-installed with Vista and without recovery DVDs. That means, before anything create recovery DVDs with preinstalled Vista 'Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator'. This DVD can be used if one day want to install Vista and have once again the factory settings.

    I have the Satellite L650 - 15G with Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium edition. Due to some limitations of this OS, I want to upgrade to Windows 7 professional since I am in Dubai, WAU is not available for me. I called Microsoft and they said I have to get through retailers.

    My query is, is it all Toshiba support available in the UNITED Arab Emirates, to upgrade the operating system? Toshiba allow the upgrade through the channel of the where I bought my laptop?

    Microsoft is not good!

    Hello

    As much as I know there no support for Toshiba to upgrade the operating system. Only the preinstalled OS will be supported, and some models are available with different versions of Windows.

    In any case, I think that Microsoft is right and you will need to purchase a Windows 7 upgrade disk. Using this disk, you can start the upgrade. This should be possible without new installation so that all programs and data will not be erased.

    You understand that you will not be able to upgrade Windows XP to Windows 7?  He will have to do a clean install.

    The Council supports Windows 7, you can get the drivers here (the chipset drivers should be the first drivers you install after installing the operating system.)

  • Someone knows how to upgrade to Windows 7 64 bit to dm3?

    Hi all

    Recently, I bought my computer laptop pavilion dm3-1028tx (sp9300, 4 GB ddr3). Unfortunely only it comes with oem windows 7 Home premium 32-bit instead of windows 7 64-bit.

    Due to the characteristic of 32 bits, its only 3 GB of ram could be used.

    IM plan to upgrade my windows 7 Home premium 32-bit to 64-bit windows 7 home premiun.

    I tried to contact microsoft in my country, they said I should ask to HP, if I could spend my windows because its OEM.

    Someone knows how to upgrade my windows 7 32 bit to windows 7 64 bit without having to buy a new one? Please help me I do not know.

    Thanks a lot guys

    Unfortunately, you will need to buy the 64-bit version, unless you can get HP to you give 64-bit free citing inability to use all of the memory as a customer support/advocacy.   But you should check on HP website to see if your model was first 64-bit drivers.

    He will have to do a new installation as well.  And if HP is not actively support 64-bit for your model, you will lose the HP software (most consider bloatware anyway).  You will also lose built in recovery option.  So, at least, make sure you create your restore disks.

    You may be able to wash to recover the partition, but I don't know how you would be able to use it without recovery software that HP has loaded.

  • I am unable to get the computer manufacturer to send the disc to reinstall Vista. I tried to do this task almost 3 weeks. I need to reinstall Vista so that I can upgrade to Windows 7 64 bit. Please help me. I have the product code.

    I mistakenly installed the 32-bit version of Windows 7, and I try to install the 64-bit version.  Info on other forums says there is no way to do it without a disk... I do not have with the computer.

    To go from 32 bit to 64 bit, you have to do with a FULL 64-bit version, by performing a clean install. so I don't see what the problem on Vista reinstall is.

    Unless you have Vista 64 bit, it will not help you upgrade to Windows 7 64 bit.

    How to get Vista recovery Media and/or to use the Vista recovery Partition on your computer.

    There is no Vista free download legal available.

    Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

    Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.
    See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.
    Normally, you have to press F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process...
    Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Ask them if you can also make recovery disk/s for the recovery Partition in case of a system Crash or hard drive failure.

    They will tell you how to do this.

    Every computer manufacturer has their way of doing recovery disk/s.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
    A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
    The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.
    There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.
    If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):
    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu
  • How to upgrade to Windows 7 64 bit
    Windows 7 Professional 32 bit DVD I bought at a retail store. But now I want to upgrade to Windows 7 64 bit. Can someone tell me what what should I do? I know I have a new installation of my formatting system drive. But my question is should I buy again Windows 7 64 bit DVD separately or download Windows 7 64 bit online and can use 32-bit series that I have to activate?
    You can use the same product key that allows you to enable the 32-bit version.
    You will need to do a clean install, there is no place on the way to upgrade Windows 7 32 bit to 64 bit.
    Using the disk of 64-bit Windows 7, install Windows 7 Windows Easy Transfer Utility from the DVD (to find it, simply navigate to x:\support\migwiz, "x:" is the name of your hard drive. (In this case, you will see a collection of files, the important"that you must search for and double-click is 'migsetup'.) run it and create a DAMP (Windows Easy Transfer file), if you have an external hard drive, you can access it later when you perform a clean install of Windows 7 64-bit disk so you can stored there.
    Once you have done this, just do a clean install of Windows 7 64 bit disc. In Windows 7 64 bit disk, start Windows Easy Transfer, follow the wizard screen, tap on which is stored the WET file (external hard drive) and it will restore your personal files and settings. Reinstall the applications needed.
    http://www.notebooks.com/2009/10/07/using-Windows-easy-transfer-in-Windows-7/
    Boot from the DVD 64 bit Windows 7
    Click Install now
    Accept the license agreement
    When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)
    Select the disk partition where you want to install Windows 7 click Next.
    You will receive the following warning:
    The partition you have selected may contain files from a previous Installation of Windows. If so, these files and folders will be moved to a folder named Windows.old. You will be able to access the information in Windows.old, but you will be able to use your previous version of Windows.
    (At all costs, do NOT click on anything in Format, deletion or Partition name.) So even do a custom installation, your personal files are still kept. Click OK
    The installation program will now begin installation. During installation, your computer will be restarted several times.
    Once the installation is complete, you can complete the Out of Box experience as the choice of your laptop, create a username, password, your time zone. You can then proceed to download the latest updates for Windows and reinstall your applications and drivers.
    You can then retrieve your personal files from the Windows.old folder and reinstall all of your applications and drivers.
    + The first step: + use the first DVD: all right, "the system is ready to install Windows 7, insert the second dvd. When I insert the other, I accept the license and after that, the first step of the installation: * "check system compatibility."
    * These steps is my problem.*
    I reworded more than 10 times the praxis but it blocks at this stage, I left the laptop at this stage, throughout the night, but today morning she was always there, no progress, it is clear that there is a problem, but I do not understand if it depends on my cell phone or on the DVD.
    I tried to boot the laptop with Windows 7 DVD inside, start the system by the DVD, but it ask me to format the partition where are the files of vista and is not an upgrade. I bought an upgrade just do not remove previous programs and do not format the first partition of the drive of my laptop.
