Satellite A660-184 RAM extension

Hello from Savoy! (I'm not American, I speak very well English)

I have a problem with the TOSHIBA Satellite A660-184.
The RAM was first 4 GB (2 * 2 GB).
I bought new RAM: 2 * 4 GB (right model, the right frequency).
On the TOSHIBA Web page for this computer, it is written: 8 GB maximum.

-When I install 2 GB on lower housing and 4 go on the top slot: the computer works well.
-When I install 4 GB on lower housing and 2 go on the top slot: cannot run.
-When I install 4 go on both the upper and lower slots: cannot run.

The version of the BIOS is 2.30 (it seems to be the last).

Does anyone have a solution for this problem?
Thank you

Jerome.

You are right about upgrading RAM. Your laptop can be upgraded up to 8 GB.

Can you please tell us what brand did you buy? Some cheap or modules of memory RAM of high quality offered by Kingston or Samsung?

    I just picked up 8 GB of RAM for my Satellite A660, CM3X4GSD1066 Corsair 4 GB PC-8500 (1066 MHz) 204 - pin DDR3 SO-DIMM RAM CL7.

The system publishes end and the 8 GB appears in the BIOS, but once that his erases post and passes to Windows loading it stops on the black screen, the cursor blinks several times then it stops. I left for about 5 minutes and it starts through.
    Help, please.

I replaced the 4 GB sticks and it works fine.

    Hello

To me it sounds like it's modules are not compatible or have bad sectors
As Akuma writes, these performance modules are risky in notebook because you don t have options to change the values of latency than on desktop computers. So, I always prefer to upgrade computer laptop RAM Kingston modules.

But before that you buy other modules, try a BIOS update and load the default settings.

  • Satellite A660 - 11 M: does not start with 8 GB of RAM, but works with 6 GB

    Satellite A660 - 11 M:

I upgraded my RAM to 4 GB (2x2gb) up to 8 GB (2x4gb). When I start the computer I can see in the BIOS it reads 8 GB of RAM. However, when starting, it does not go beyond the white screen BACK (just before Windows starts).

If I delete one of the 4 GB & replace it with a 2 GB (so I have 6 GB total) it starts ok.

Anyone know how I can get it to work with 8 GB of RAM?

    Hey,.

To be honest, I've never heard of RAM SanMax modules...
In my opinion the problem is related to your RAM modules is not compatible to your laptop or defective.

You can test it with high-quality Kingston or prétestées authorized service modules?

  • Satellite M60-184: name of the drive from DVD-RAM CD d: D: change

    Hello
I have a Satellite M60-184, I have problems with the DVD player, sometimes changing the icon, there name of DVD-RAM to CD drive D: drive, then it is not able to read any cd or dvd, until I have restart windows. Someone told me that I had to update the BIOS, but it didn't work.
    can someone help me?
    Thank you very much

    Francisco

    Hello

The name, I guess the route because of the media that has been placed in change.
If the DVD is inserted so that the player goes to DVD D: and the CD has been inserted so the disc change CD d:
If the player doesn't work properly, so try to remove it from the Device Manager.
After again starting the operating system should recognize the drive again. Maybe it helps.

  • Satellite A660-1FH fails to back off with Win7 64-bit

Hi, a friend of mine asked me to watch his Satellite A660-1FH (PSAW3E). It is currently running windows 7 64 bit. There initially could not activate so I said I'd take a peek.

It just would not start the power on, it would go beyond the initial screen then cursor would appear at the top on the left and flash a couple of times and freeze. I started and you press f2 to view the bios and the HARD drive was top of the list so I pressed f10 and saved and started. starts fine then he thought may have been an accident that has caused and continues in windows and update for him.
then rebooted and froze! It seems when the restart is selected, it does not restart, everything freezes.

I tried to use hirens resumed but it cannot see the HARD drive when it is started! weird. I got in the car and he ghosts for safety.

Earlier I installed 8 company windows x 64, and it presents the same question. the drive works fine in other pc so you need another piece of equipment. I had already updated the BIOS under win7 and checked all drivers.

I just got a strange win8 startup message saying that a boot or partition file was missing and could not start but him repressing the power button, it starts well.

It does not always restart under a clean install of win8. I came here because I found a post with the same or similar issue. Any suggestions? Thanks Mark

    > it just would not start the power on, it would go beyond the initial screen then cursor appears at the top on the left and flash a couple of times and freeze

The blinking cursor appears in the upper left corner indicates a malfunction or memory from HDD. I think you should check both sides.

You said that the drive works fine in another PC. Do you hear the HARD drive?
If so, then the HARD drive is OK and the RAM is probably the troublemaker.

  • Satellite A660 can I update i5 to i7?

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite A660-1EM with Intel core i5 460M, and would like to know if I can switch to Intel core i7 720qm.

Many people want to upgrade CPU to get a more powerful machine. Generally the CPU upgrade is not supported and you can read this in http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB9401AX0001R01.htm

Supported upgrade is RAM and HARD drive so before taking some upgrade of RAM maximum risk and maybe swap the HDD with SSD is much faster. These upgrades are safe and your machine will work much better and faster than before.

  • Satellite A660 - 10 X sometimes won't start - screen black startup

    Hello

_sometimes_ my Satellite A660-10 x (PSAW3E) usually start.
I turn it on, you hear the fan coming, on the screen, you see a blinking cursor on the screen in the top left, it kind of more climbs to left and top over in the corner and stops. Nothing happens, after a while, I turn off the laptop.
If I do this 3 - 5 times then it starts. Sometimes it starts on the first attempt.

    What I tried:
Reinstall the PC since the partition of drive with Win7
Out of HARD drive in my desktop PC and CHKDSC running with analysis and correct errors.
Cleaning of all the PC of dust, fans etc.
    Pulling out / in battery/AC
    Check the memory (RAM)
Processor power management change the State of the minimum 5% to 100% CPU

I understand PC, but this day have no idea what can cause this. The only thing that comes to mind is that the partition at the beginning of the disk contains errors that I can't reach because there a boot partition, partition original installation and the rest which is the only one, I can not reach with CHKDSC.
I heard someone tried changing battery of motherboard (small round), it can it be?

It doesn't seem to be the disc or the problem of the LCD screen, or RAM memory.

    > I turn it on, you hear the fan coming, on the screen, you see a blinking cursor on the screen in the top left, it kind of more climbs to left and top over in the corner and stops. Nothing happens, after a while, I turn off the laptop.

Cursor blinking in the upper left is a well-known landmark and could be related to defective RAM or HARD disk memory problems.

Verification of memory could be carried out, and in my experience, these controls provide memory about the correct results. But even if verification of memory would not find any problem of RAM, it could still be a nuisance RAM.

Of course, I can't say with certainty, if his RAM related question or maybe its related to other defective part.
Fact is that this problem is caused by problems of material and in the worst case that the motherboard needs to be replaced.

  • Satellite A660 - 1 HL-problems with the graphics card

    Hello!

This is my first thread so I apologize if I am doing something wrong and for my bad English. :)

Just bought a Toshiba Satellite A660 - 1 hl with two adapters, integrated and a GeForce GT 330 M. The integrated works well, but when I go to the dedicated I encounter problems. The non-adjustable resolution in optimal mode and windows in the operating system (windows 7) delays when moving. I can't get info on the map in all kinds of temperature programs or dxdiag and such others.

I tried to install the drivers from nvidia, Toshiba and windows update with no improvement. I can't run Windows expreince index because I get an error message or of any average games do I encounter error messages there as well. I begin to doubt that the drivers installed even.

I hope you guys can help out me :)

It comes to getting the error messages:

    http://ImageShack.us/photo/my-images...krmklipp3.jpg/

    http://ImageShack.us/photo/my-images/9/skrmklipp4.jpg/

You should test the RAM (memory) for problems using the Test of memory of Microsoft or the www.memtest.org (bootable CD).

To confirm that this is a hardware problem, you must save your documents and run recovery.

If the problem still occur on a new image, then the laptop should go to an ASP (Toshiba Service Center) for repairs (possibly a motherboard replacement).

    Hello

Have you noticed the same behavior with pre-installed Windows 7 Home Premium at Toshiba?

I think it s a driver or software issue, so it would be interesting to know if everything worked with original settings or not.

Have you installed most recent display of the official website of Toshiba driver?

  • Satellite A660-18 suspended and needs hard reboot

My Satellite A660-18 crashes every two days about 2/3 times. I can't press ctrl + alt + del and the mouse does not move. I pressed the power button to restart manually. It started about two weeks after I got it in September. I watch a lot of videos online (and offline) and usually after the screen freezes / crashes, audio continues and extends. I thought that it was a problem with IE8, so I switched to Google Chrome, but it still continues. This occurs also in offline mode. Also, after my laptop crashes, the fan speeds up so I thought it was an overheating issue. I bought a carpet of cooling a few days ago, and the system still hangs. I don't know what to do now, can anyone help?

    Intel core i7 1.73 GHz q740
    4.00 GB ram
    64-bit operating system
    Windows 7
NVIDIA Geforce 310 M 512 MB dedicated video memory

    Hello

    It's not easy to say what causes this but you should check different things;

    (1) reinstall the OS. Dirty registry entries affect the OS eth feature
    (2) clean OS using CCleaner
    (3) check the bars of memory. Run the test using a tool like memtest86 + or similar
    (4) check the HARD disk. You can use Drive Fitness Test, which is free.
    (5) update BIOS and other pilots like graphics card driver

    Good luck
