  When I diagnose the problem it says weak signal, but the intensity of the signal on the computer shows excellent.
  If I plug the ethernet cable then everything works fine.

  Very puzzled as to why this happens, having run checks virus on computers and nothing.

  All that it suggest that there is problem ISP but given that I can connect to my other laptop and desktop PC and no problems so do not know if it is...

  I just bought a Toshiba Satellite [T110-121 | http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/product/Satellite-T110-121/1080681/toshibaShop/false/] laptop and it's absolutely great in every way, but it connects to my router wireless less than 512 Kbps.

  I have an another Toshiba laptop, I am about to sell ([U30013U | http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/jsp/SUPPORTSECTION/discontinuedProductPage.do?service=UK&com.broadvis ion.session.new = Yes & PRODUCT_ID = 137279]) and the wireless speed is normally around 15mbps. All other laptops that were already connected to my wireless router are normally not less than 15mbps.

  The T110-121 is super fast when it is connected through ethernet, therefore, the problem lies only in the part things wireless.
  My router is a netgear dg834g, and I'm on DSL of the Virgin.

  The only major difference between my two laptops from Toshiba is the new are listed as being supported network: 802.11b/g/n connectivity and my oldest with the connection the faster is listed as: a/b/g. This would make much difference?

  I should also add that I removed all potentially problematic pre-installed software, such as Mcafee and I use Avast.

  There is a difference between simple standards of WLan 802.11 A, B, G or N.
  If your router supports 802.11 G or N then I would recommend choosing 802.11 N Router and the settings of the Wlan because the 802.11 standard card standard is the fastest and the most recent.

  Please check if the wireless network card is configured properly. You can do this in-Wlan card-> Advanced tab > Device Manager.
  You could improve also the unique parameters and performance of WLan.

  Last but not least, please check the Windows 7 power management because the WLan performance might be decreased in for safe battery power.

  Running Windows 7.

  ESET NOD32 Antivirus.

  All the latest versions of the drivers installed including the driver Atheros 8.0.0.225.0 wireless.

  Wireless is annoying...

  Sometimes fails to find the router (Belkin 54g, connected to the Modem cable Motorola (Virgin B/B is the access provider, 10 Mbps)).

  When he finds, connects ok, but sometimes it is impossible to browse web pages - just behave as if there is no connection.

  Bit torrent works also very slowly (in general 0.5Mbit / s depending on the number of peers etc.). Not a port forwarding issue with the router - using utorrent that indicates that the relevant port is open.

  When I connect to the router with an ethernet cable, everything works a treat - much faster and rock solid connection. uTorrent has no hit 10Mbit/s problem at all.

Even at 1 meter from the access point, even with the settings configured to Auto 802.11 mode, same with the other laptop with the same Wifi card to 11 Mbps, there is 1 MB/s.

  I had a similar problem with a slow speed WLAN and the problem was characteristic of energy saving wireless network card. I disabled the WLAN power save option and set a maximum performance for each power profile of Windows and even on battery mode.
