Satellite C650 - HDD or motherboard issue

Hello

My 2 year old laptop had drive detection HARD and errors of HARD drive last month.

Thinking it was the HARD drive (as indicated by the computer and the amount of HARD drive failures in online forums), so last week I replaced the HARD drive.

It has taken ages and made more than 100 windows updates. Anyway to cut a long story short, the same mistakes are happening again, but now total boot failure and can not detect the hard drive? the two old and work of new HARD drive on another computer via a usb enclosure.

Sometimes I get, welcome on windows recovery another moment she just doesent boot, then other times it starts but displays "windows has detected a HARD disk problem '...

I am now the disk controller HARD of thinking on the motherboard? common problem?

Are there additional controls to confirm a fault, as some time it loads up. ?

Any advice would be appreciated gratefully.

Regards, Stephen

Hi Stephen

On this virtual path, we can only speculate what may be the problem, but if there is problem detecting HARD drive in the BIOS it may be serous issue with detection of HARD drive on the first level and it may be the motherboard issue.

What kind of errors you see in Windows?

In addition, you use original recovery image that you got with your laptop?

    Hi guys n Gals.

Any input on that would be great.
    Its a PSC08E Toshiba C650

Recently, I restored my system to factory settings using the Toshiba recovery partition. Everything was fine that I had installed Windows.

Was on the desk, he began to install all programs and Tosiba players when he first started to install face recognition. It froze for 5-10 minutes and closes.

I restarted my computer, a message me saying no boot device. Restarted and went into the Bios.
    No HARD drive detected.
It seems if i enter Bios then save and exit. (Which makes the computer restart) BIOS detected that's fine.

First of all, I thought it was a bad installation and a format would work. So I did.
This time with the win7 installation disc. Same thing got on the desk, except the toshiba didn't install the drivers themselves. I went on the toshiba site and installed the relevent drivers currently work fine I use it to type this message now.

Whenever I turn on a stop I have to enter and exit the BIOS.
I have upated the Bios, I did not have a recovery CD. (Is this different from download the drivers after a new installation?)
I would like to buy one, but they were quite expensive, one I need is £30.

Not quite sure how works this forum, if there is a reward system that I will not fail to keep,
Desperately need some help here. This is driving me crazy

Ok. The first thing we do is to get into the BIOS, set it to default settings and check its operation. I think the HARD drive should be recognized correctly and you should be able to start the laptop without entering the BIOS.

Now after the installation of clean operating system you can not install the HARD drive recovery image. What you need now is the original recovery disk. I put t understand why you didn't create where everything was OK.
Anyway, the new recovery disc can be ordered on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

If you want to keep your version of the OS install all the drivers missing, tools and utilities more. You can download them from the download page of Toshiba - http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp

2nd hand parts, especially good work motherboards are very rare.
In most cases, these parts not found on some platforms of internet auction where sold people own portable computers.

New parts are easy to find, but of course, this part would not come cheap. Motherboard went the more expensive laptop and a replacement will be a costly procedure.
However, these pieces could be ordered in the Toshiba authorized service provider that is available in your country or you could also get such 3rd party dealers and suppliers.

  • Satellite C650 - cannot access the HDD recovery to restore Win7

    Satellite C650

Windows partition has been destroyed, I have a copy of the recovery of HARD drive to an external drive, but using a disc of windows7 to start on windows does not recognize the recovery of hard drive as being any information system so will not restore the original windows and Toshiba Utilities.

Press F8 and keeps O press the button of not raising the the menu with the option to restore.

No clue as to how I can extract / use HARD drive recovery I

    Thank you

Problem is this recovery saved disk image external DRIVE cannot be used. In s manuals document is clearly described that the owner of the laptop must create recovery media. This recovery media can be a DVD disc or USB key, depending on the model of laptop.

What you can do now is to restore disc original order or to install the clean version of the OS with installation of Microsoft disk but it is also not the best solution.

What do you think of all this? If you have any other questions you are welcome.

  • Satellite C650 - face graphic without text

    Hello.

4 laptops on the line. I recently bought my computer laptop replacement as my previous L300 toshiba had a hard drive failure within the warranty? It is a C650.

its been settled up to my taste and work very well apart from a bit of slow speed... even with a faster processor.
yesterday, I decided to set the brightness of the screen. This laptop has a different then my laptop L300 driver system. the graphics driver has settings, but you need to change the graphics Control Panel. Once again these slimming down of functions add the tedious nature of the newer machines have also no direct control over the audio either. overall, you can say im disappointed before even I have no problems.

Back to the question. the graphic Panel. Well, I havnt messed with it since I made the very 1st installation. I have the brightness using a grayscale chart and left a light touch. the function of /control module allows me to turn down the brightness. F6 F7 Bright shining down upwards.
as the hours of the day change... I opened the graphics Panel to adjust the setting. for some reason the text in the Panel has empty fonts displayed as oblong squares.
Ive been looking for clues without a bit of luck.
    1. I uninstalled the driver and re-installed without change.
2 ive cleaned the hard drive and empty manually the Temp folder... all except 1 file?
3 ive searched the net also with no luck either.
4 ive checked the Device Manager to search for the missing files. everything looks ok

any idea? I know that the driver is an Intel and I know this isn't a STD pilot... as usual for this laptop. the system is XP SP3. I have this on my other computer toshiba laptop with no bother. all functions worked fine until recently... which i cannot say when this error occurred. I know that the graphic Panel worked as I used it. (you need to get the right screen using this Panel)... help
    Russ

    Hi Russ

After reading your ad I want to be close to you and see what it is exactly you do and what your issue/problems.
I saw Satellite C650 at my dealer and it seems to be very nice machine so I m really surprised, you have problems with the brightness settings.

    >... for some reason the text in the Panel has empty fonts displayed as elongated seats
Can you please make a screenshot? I would like to see what it looks like.

Incidentally: in my view, by default settings, brightness, contrast, color, gamma, and all the other parameters are optimized and perfect level so I m asking you want to change anything.
Only what we can do is to change the intensity of the brightness and it can be done with the FN + F6/F7 key combination.

Is it not enough for you?

  • Satellite C650 - is slow on the first day

Got a new Satellite C650 two weeks ago. Everything on it runs very slowly.

Abandoned entirely on Internet Explorer and positioned on Google Chrome, which helped, but it is nowhere near as fast it should be. I use a broadband wireless connection which works fine on other laptops in the House. I read that I should look at disabling some start-up processes that are not necessary but which? Toshiba has loads of their race and I don't have any idea what they are.

I should add that I also installed BitDender antivirus software and that is the only addition I made.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hey Buddy,

To be honest it is always difficult to discuss issues such as a series of portable computers slow down because nobody knows what exactly you were doing and what additional programs that you have installed.

Done if you have installed another anti-virus software, make sure that the pre-installed McAfee of Toshiba is removed.
If you have two antivirus installed, they will slow down the performance.

You can also defragment the HARD drive. This can also increase performance.

Finally and above all it s always advisable using the forum search. You will find a large number of discussions on this issue.

  • Satellite C650 - message from the PXE ROM at startup

My 6 month old Satellite C650 (Windows 7 64-bit) started grippements this afternoon and now will not restart. She gave the following message is displayed after the Toshiba screen:

PXE - MOF: EXIT INTEL PXE ROM
    NO BOOT DEVICE

I think that there is a "insert the disk and press a key" after that, but I'm away from home and have not all disks (not sure if there are home either!). So I tried a few off/ons and now does not go as far as the Toshiba screen.

    At a loss - nightmare!

Obviously HDD is not recognized correctly, but the question is why.
It's new model of laptop, and you should contact Toshiba service as soon as possible.

  • Waste of space on the hard disk on the Satellite C650 - 15 X

    Hello

I found a problem on my laptop Toshiba Satellite C650-15 X (almost new), I bought several months ago. It has a drive hard 500 GB volume in 2 partitions: C and D-with 250 GB each; and Windows 7 Premium 64-bit operating system.

There is something strange about the partition D: it is 225 GB of missing! After scoring all of the files in the partition D > properties, there are only 25 GB in use and really little or no free space! There isn't any system or other files with this 25 GB. More than 220 GB in partition D is simply disappeared.

C partition looks normal. Tried all known Windows tools: check disk, defragmentation, convenience stores, etc. without results. Any suggestion or idea what s happened past and how to fix it? Thanks in advance!

Can you please open Computer Management > disk management. Make a screenshot and post it here.
I would like to see exact HDD structure.

  • Satellite C650-17Z - keys FN and Ctrl-Alt-Del does not work

I recently bought a Satellite C650-17Z and the function key and the Ctrl-Alt-Del key combination ceased to operate. Is there a solution to this all - I got older laptops from Toshiba is a driver issue, but I can't find the drivers for specific keyboard on the Toshiba site.

    Could someone enlighten me, please?

    Hello

Regards the FN keys will find it many other topics in the forum.
Did you find them? Is there a solution for you?

In any case, you must reinstall the package of added value and utility to Support Flash Cards because both controls the FN keys. You can download all the tools on the official website of Toshiba:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com > support & downloads > download drivers

But for the Al-Ctrl-Del combination, there is no special driver but maybe it can be solved with these tools...

  • Satellite C650-15U - low volume

    Hello

Sorry if there is already a thread on this issue, I look but couldn't find one. I have a C650 and the volume is very low, even when all the volume controls are set up. On some applications, it may be allowed, but mostly it is too low, especially on the internet. My audio driver is up to date and I can't find a way to increase the volume. If there is someone out there who can help me with this, I would be really grateful. (With the help of Windows 7)

    Thank you

    Hey Buddy,

I put t know what to say but even Satellite C650 is not the best mobile entertainment the volume should always be ok and I can t he imagines s too low for you.

Is the sound level in Windows set to 100%?

When you connect external speakers or headphones is the sound level ok, or too low?

  • Satellite C650 - "no battery is detected.

    Hi all

(I apologize if this has already been covered, but each problem is different!)

I have a Satellite C650, bought ~ August 2010. Basically, I have a problem with the battery. It is in place, with the power supply AC plugged and recognized. The two LEDs are green display.

When the office, however, the battery icon is empty, with a Red Cross and a symbol of feeder on top. Hovering above, it says "no battery is detected."

The machine seems to work very well and on the normal speed, and there is no other signs to suggest that it is damaged on the screen or on the outside. The only flaw that is a fan that is slow to the "liquidation", but the laptop is not hotter than usual.

What did I try? Switch off, pull out the AC adapter, and then remove and replace the battery. There is no sign of damage to the battery, or around it. The same question "icon" remains.

I'm a student, so it is quite essential. In addition, with the AC cord is connected, the unit will continue to operate normally - or die suddenly?

I'm a bit of a technophobe, so nothing too complicated please-, but all suggestions welcome!

    Thank you

    JW

    > Also, with AC, the power cord is connected, the unit will continue to operate normally - or die suddenly?

Not sure if I understand this. The laptop will be and should work fine with the AC adapter connected.

Usually, the battery should charge when the power adapter is connected. If the battery is fully charged, the battery led should go green and recharging must stop.

However, I would recommend updating the BIOS to see if the battery issue is always available

If the BIOS update does not help, replace the battery with another compatible.

  • Satellite C650-107 - CPU Upgrade

    Hello

I have the opportunity to acquire a new processor which should be compatible with the support of motherboard of the laptop, but I wonder if it will work even on the laptop. Computer laptop is Toshiba Satellite C650-107, it comes originally with i3 - 330 M, but I can develop i5 - 530 M. Intel story confirms that both processors use the same socket as have same TDP so cooling should not be a problem. Can someone tell me if the BIOS will load the upgrade or the laptop does not work even with the processor?

BTW, material is out of warranty, so this isn't something to worry about.

Well, since I had some free time, I disassembled the C650-107 and replaced the CPU. I made a mistake, it wasn't i5 - 560 M, 530 m. It works like a charm, if anyone is wondering if it still works, it does not, no problem what-so-ever. I just put a few stress tests to make sure that it works without overheating and maximum temperature, I noticed then was 80 degrees celsius it is within the Intel specification.

  • Satellite C650 - 15 X won't start Win 7 - where to get the recovery?

    Hello

I am in the United States with a laptop computer crashed after an infection Trojan (PUP-...). Removed to Malwarebytes, but the computer won't open windows, even in safe mode. All attempts to make the Toshiba repair program that fails every time. I'm trying to get a disc of recovery for this machine. On the Toshiba-USA phone said to contact Toshiba-France, which in turn says sorry, online only. On their website, I can't find the right page, even though I am French.

  • Satellite C650 cannot start Windows

Hi and thanks for reading this post.

I had a Satellite C650 laptop with Windows 7 and inside the h2o bios, works fine for about a year now. The problem, as this post came yesterday when I was using the laptop as usual. At one point, it seemed that the computer worked very hard (fan noise, could not click on anything) and it lasted about a minute or two until what I tried Ctrl + Alt + Delete, who don't do anything. 5 minutes later an error window pops up saying that CTRL + Atl + Del could not be run at this time. I could not click on anything whatsoever and a s Malwarebyte (anti-malware software) had opened, although I couldn't read what he says since I couldn't click on anything. I held the power until the computer closed and proceeded to restart.

A window asking me if I wanted to start windows normally, I said yes, but after the Toshiba usual loading screen, nothing happened (blue screen dark without the usual windows start icon) I left it running for 15 minutes, but still nothing. He retried a couple of times off the computer with the power button (this time is not to ask me if I wanted to run windows normally) and still the same thing.

For some strange reason, I can not start mode safe mode using f8 because f8 simply do nothing. Tried the f2 boot configuration, but nothing seems to be no relief at the moment.

Thanks a lot if you can provide some tips on how to solve this problem.

    -Vincent

    Hello

Pressing F2 should allow you to access the BIOS.
The F2 key must be pressed immediately after that the laptop has been powered.
It work? You can access the BIOS?

If this is not possible, you can pass the hypothesis that this could be a hardware problem.
In the worst cases that the motherboard may be affected or device connected to the motherboard as RAM.

Solution? Good RAM could be verified using new modules, but if you have no spare parts available for this test, then I recommend to ask a technician for verification of material.

Your warranty is valid? If so, don t waste time and get in touch with the service people.

  • Re: Satellite C650 does nothing at the beginning upward

So today, my computer froze, could not do anything as usual I restarted by the power button.
I went to turn back on and the normal startup. Noise has a weird clicking on in the lower right.
Then she went on this black screen and says could not startup disk load press any key during loading.
So I restarted a couple of times and now it's not even do it. It shows just a black screen with a small white line, ad that's all nothing else. Always with the sounds of rattling.

Could someone help me? Thank you
    And my laptop is:
    Toshiba Satellite C650
I could really use the help, thank you.

I can't say for sure, but I think the HARD drive's troublemaker.
Enter in the BIOS, set the default value and try to start computer laptop new just to see what will happen.
If you have the recovery disk on it start to check if the disc will have access to the HARD drive.

In the worst case HDD must be exchanged. In General, it is not problematic but I m afraid you will lose all your important data.
