Satellite C660-1HP - hard drive crashed in 2 days

I bought a Toshiba laptop(C660-1CV) to a local dealer just before two days. I had loaded VMware with couple of VMs and other important software.

Despite my company insisting lenevo I went for Toshiba because I trust the brand and I had a real experience with Toshiba. Today morning after two days of buying laptop, the hard drive crashed and I got a black screen with no guest OS, nothing. My dealer said that he cannot do what I have to consider service of Al Futtiam centre. The hard drive just re-connected service center guys and it didn't work, he was immediately made a statement that the hard drive needs to be replaced and it will be another 4 to 5 days. He said to take a backup of your data, I have to pay 99 AED. Isn't it strange? My own laptop which is just 2 days has crashed and I have to pay to get my data. The technical guy has no other troubleshooting procedures except reconnect the hard drive.

I'm sorry to hear that this HARD drive died after 2 days that are not normally but these things can happen, especially with the HARD drive, it is a mechanical part. But the don t worry that this case is covered by the warranty in order to obtain free of charge a new HDD to an authorized service and the guy said that it takes 4 or 5 days. It s ok for the laptop can be fixed within a week.

No, that s not quite strange. Backup doesn t warranty coverage, you should do it yourself. Which is the reason why you must install and configure the backup software before doing anything.
