Satellite C660 - overheating and decommissioning

I have a computer laptop satellite C660 and in recent weeks it has been overheating and switching of. The fan and the heat sink is free of dirt and I bought and installed a new processor, but the problem persists. Actually the only way I can get the machine to run must go into the BIOS and run it in a slower mode which is unacceptable for a normal performance. I think I may have one problem material but another CPU change don't know what to try next.

I can provide details if someone need help and I thank everyone in advance for any advice they are able to provide.

Hello
do you have a thermal past when you installed the new processor?
No idea on this model but have you check if any other component (for example the video gpu) add thermal paste on him?
You use the laptop on a solid surface to allow the bottom of the laptop breathe properly for better cooling?
I know some pretty stupid questions, but is just a double check.

  • Satellite A60 - overheating and decommissioning

    Hello

As "[email protected]", I have similar problems with my Satellite A60.

After about 10 minutes of normal use on a hard, flat surface, the laptop starts to become very hot and turns off (obviously overheating). He started only when working with heavy editing workload, but is now it does all the time.

Is this a common fault with the A60? I've had mine for a little more than 12 months and had no probems, and now all of a sudden I can barely use the thing! (of course, it's just out of warranty)

Any suggestions would be very appreciated,

    Thank you very much

    Hi Mike,.

That strangely resembles the typical issue of overheating that can infest the laptop users. Laptops use a metal matrix (similar to a car radiator) cooling to dissipate heat from the CPU when using, and if the airway through the matrix of the clogging of dust and debris, then a thermal trigger will be used to turn off the power to the laptop.

Air suction fans act like small vacuum cleaners and pull ambient air dust in the matrix where it gradually accumulates and blocks the air flow.

Try to use a hose of vacuum cleaner against the aspiration air grills to pick the accumulated debris. I do this with my laptop on a monthly basis.

    Kind regards

  • My Satellite keeps overheating and turning off

My laptop satellite keeps overheating and stopping when doing hard CPU work. The thing is if I open power management and keep the reset of the method of cooling performance max speed up the fan and it cools.

It does not seem to adjust the speed of the fan if left only you I have to keep changing it and in a minute or two, it slows down again and then have to change once again at the speed of the fan to the top.

No idea why this is happening and how to fix it? Grateful for any help. Thank you arran

    Hello

In my opinion your laptop should be cleaned in professional way. I put t know why you n t mention which model of laptop you have, but I know that some models are not easy to clean because of construction and must be dismantled.

  • Updated by Satellite C660 - 11K and Bluetooth

    Hello
I have a Satellite C660 - 11K & constantly receiving updates to Bluetooth v3.0 of Information Online Toshiba products. Have I not compatible Bluetooth & if not how can I get rid of the nagging update?.
    See you soon
    Mark

According to laptop specification your model laptop doesn t have BT and these updates is not necessary.
    > How can I get rid of the nagging update?
Remove the Toshiba system product information online and enjoy your life. ;)

A question: is BT software stack installed on your laptop? Check in Control Panel > programs and features. If yes remove the system.

  • Satellite C660 - jerking and seeds regularly during media playback

Hello, my Satellite C660 experiences technical problems when playing audio and video. I play 320KO ripped mp3s in Winamp and generally Watch youtube when the glitch regularly and jerk, audio and video. These occur about one second at a time, but the noise is very noticeable and unpleasant and produced regularly when I am on my computer.

I thought it might be the problem with CPU/memory, but I literally only Chrome and Winamp plays and have turned off a lot of startup programs. If there is anything I could do to fix this problem, any help would be greatly appreciated (even something to take less noisy and noticeable breaks!).

    Hi saurus,.

If you can see this problem on the preinstalled version of Windows 7 in Toshiba or is it your own installation?
Also is it on the internal speakers or headphones? Have you tested the two?

It's not always easy to tell which is the reason, but in your case, I'll try to update the audio driver. You can download a newer version on the official page of Toshiba driver download:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com > support & downloads > download drivers

Before installing the new version remove the former first. Then restart your computer and install the downloaded version of the audio driver.

  • Satellite C660 keyboard and mouse not working not

I have a Satellite C660 who is about to leave the window.

The list of problems are the following:

    Keyboard does not work
Mouse pads and button do not work
USB mouse and keyboard do not work (but light up with power)
He likes also turn off randomly when the battery in but it's the least problems.

any ideas as to why he did this and what can we do about it will be highly appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Hello

I m wondering about your statement about external USB mouse and keyboard.
I thought that your problem has been linked to the defective module internal keyboard and touchpad, but now I m thinking that this may not be the case since the external USB keyboard does not work as well as the external USB mouse.

Probably his most serious hardware malfunction: maybe something related to the motherboard? Who knows a hardware diagnostic test must be done to confirm this

Just a question: are you able to access the BIOS? I mean the key F2 keyboard works in order to access the BIOS?

  • Satellite C660-1LD and OpenGL video card

    Hello

I bought a program that needs a graphics card with openGL driver - how do I know if my laptop has this? If it is not person knows if I can get one and if so where to go?

Also how can I update the driver on my laptop (if I need because I think they get the automatic updates)?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hello

OpenGL is a standard specification and an interface for applications that produce 2D and 3D computer graphics. OpenGL is open source.
There is also another standard called DirectX. This is from Microsoft and most graphic drivers media and contains the DirectX instead of OpenGL.

    How to get the OpenGL?
Well, the OpenGL must be part of the graphics card driver, so you have to find a driver already include the OpenGL as shown here:
    http://www.OpenGL.org/wiki/Getting_Started

Satellite C660-1LD seems to be equipped with a graphics Intel HM55 HD card.
That's why I recommend the Intel page for these drivers.

  • Satellite C660-2QN and new battery

In fact, my Satellite C660-2QN battery wore out the other day (1 month out of warranty, typical!).
I checked Toshiba replacements and decided to see if I could get a cheaper.

I found on Amazon has announced a replacement battery for all satellites C660S, basically arrived today and I first noted it says on the back, it has been modeled for Satellite Pro.

When I wanted to incorporate into my laptop, it was too big, even if my mother, who insists that it is correct, in force. It went well for a while until the battery supported, how I plugged it.

However, the battery is not, or if this is the case, very slowly. He went from 6% to 12% in round one-and-a-half hours. So I pose the question, a battery Satellite Pro is a regular satellite C660?

Otherwise, I'll continue to use my old space and stay on the current when it is used.

    Kind regards
    Ryan.

    > Satellite Pro battery made a regular satellite C660?

    Satellite Pro C660 - 1KR PSC0ME supports 6 cells PA3817U-1BRS, 10.8V 4200mAh dimensions in mm: 206.8 x 45.1 x 20

Satellite C660-2QN is supported the same type of battery (model: PA3817U-1BRS).

  • Re: Satellite C660 - keyboard and touchpad are not working

    Satellite C660 - 28H

    Win7 64 bit

Kaskpersky antivirus deleted the file 'system32/driver/cekbfilter.sys' for reason of keylogger (Kaspersky Support says error of file anti-virus, Kaspersky is not virus or virused), and after I restarted OS I find keyboard and touchpad not working do not at all.

Also I already asked to [US Toshiba Forum | http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Keyboards-Touchpads/satellite-c660-cekbfilter-sys-deleted-and-no-keyboard/td-p/364673] and he has been Advisor to ask here also

I can't use Windows recovery (have no recovery point) and I don't want full recovery of factory default - there are many flexible and personal data stored.

So here how to get the drivers? As I have already said to US Toshiba Forum - I already tried to delete the driver of pad touch and installation of synaptic official site and I haven't changed anything.

I also think that antivirus can remove not only the file, but some patches to remove the pilot "wrone.

Eh, it's very stupid situation now. I never had such problems, but it will be interesting to find solution to this.

Have you tried to connect a mouse outside, just to see if this can work? I want to say that it is much easier to use Windows with the mouse and choose different options.

If it works, try to open the Device Manager and properties for the keyboard. You will find the option to update the driver. Check if you can find some update driver. The keyboard uses the standard Microsoft so f driver, you may be in line that some drivers are.

Of course the best solution and easiest for you is recovery facility. If you don t want to do this try to find right drivers using this driver update option.

One last thing: If you have a lot if important saved on the HARD disk you can remove your laptop and plug it into the other PC / laptop as external device and make a backup. After doing this you can install the recovery image and the problem is solved.

  • Satellite A300D - overheating and shutdown

    Hello

I have a problem with my 3 month old Toshiba Satellite A300D-126. Any time I play a game like Call of Duty 4 or Warcraft after like 15-20 min, the left side of the laptop where the cooler is placed, it is overheating, almost too hot to the touch, and finally the laptop stops.

I have to mention the fact that, recently, I installed XP (all the drivers downloaded from the Toshiba site), but I somewhat had the same problems on Vista also.

I downloaded MobileMeter, and temperatures have shown here I think that they are not normal:
Temp - HDD-35-36 degrees C and 80-85 C (when I m only not with the games, so I think that during the Games time. significantly increase)

Is it possible that the cooler can deal with games, and it is dusty? If so, how do I to clean?

    Allows any kind of response,

    Thank you

    Hello

I play call of Duty 4 on Satellite A300-1LI and so far everything is fine. Okay that's the different hardware platform, but I still believe that there should be no difference.

I think CPU temperature is perhaps greater than usual but, in my opinion, not the critical level. The normal temperature of the hard drive and the same as on my Satellite A300.
I don't know how you use your laptop, but it is the new model of laptop and I don't think that there is so much dust inside. If the laptop is placed on the desk, try putting back on two CD boxes and place it on the top position. Reduce graphics settings in the game and check again.

Is the method of cooling energy savings of Toshiba to the maximum level?

  • Satellite Pro A30 overheating and decommissioning

I found some comments dating back to March of people facing the A30 laptop random extinction. I am eperiencing the same thing.

Thinking that it might be a virus I downloaded Norton AntiVirus which caused my laptop to blue screen. I had fixed by a professional and removed NAV. He continued to turn to then find another guy from support for PC...

I worried overheating so he cleaned the fans. I was then able to run spyware without it if overwrite... everything seems fine (NB it is running on battery power at this point). However, this morning due to low battery, I plugged it to the adapter, the adapter, and the laptop has become extraordinarily hot and it stops!

Someone at - he found no concrete solution to this problem yet? My laptop is only 18 months old and it has been for about 3 months. Aaaahhh!

    Hi Vicky,

First of all, overheating of the CPU is the cause of power offs unexpected majoir where no error message or blue screens of death are displayed. There is always a very high rate of activity just before fan cooling break (unless the cooling fans do not have of course).

If your second PC support guy has properly cleaned the CPU heatsink and fans, then we have to assume that the problem relates to low airflow through the fan grids.

You stand your A30 on a hard flat surface? It is very easy to block the gates of fan cooling by standing the laptop on a soft surface (carpet, upholstered furniture, same pants/skirts etc.).

Secondly, given that you had problems with Norton antivirus, you have any other software anti-virus/spyware running. If this isn't the case, it is possible that you picked up some malware that is causing excessive CPU activity which, of course, will produce much more heat from the CPU. Check your active processes in the Task Manager and also run an antispyware application appropriate (like AdAware or SpyBot) to ensure that your system is clean.

Finally, it is quite normal that the adapter get indeed very hot when she is driving the notebook and charge the battery, especially if you are running heavy CPU or graphics applications. Similarly the battery warms up noticably while he is in charge.

  • Satellite C660 freezes and can disable it

My laptop is Satellite C660D with windows 7.

I had for a month when it started freezing 3/4 minutes after I logged on, being completely insensitive with the keyboard does not not or ctrl + alt + del or the touchpad, so the only thing I could do was to disable it.
The freezing happened whenever I was on my laptop, I used system restore my laptop back to factory conditions, and he stopped freezing. It was in June, now it started to do exactly the same thing, he has done it before, freezing and be unresponsive!

My laptop does not freeze in safe mode, no one knows what is the problem and why it continues to freeze a month after my laptop as long as the factory restore?

    Thank you

On this virtual path, that it is not possible to provide accurate diagnosis but it must be a software related issue. perhaps is this freezing problem related to some software you have installed or perhaps Microsoft updates.

What you can do is to start your computer in safe mode, and then set the startup option. With other words to define what applications, utility tools aor should start with Windows 7.

Please after THAT or the instructions of THIS do. Remove check box before all the software not associated with Toshiba and that is completely useless (can be started also).

  • Satellite A665 - overheating and speedfan time

so my laptop is a toshiba a665-06f (Canadian model) which I bought from future shop, here is a link to the plug to laptop
    http://209.167.114.38/support/TechSupport/productcontents/satellite/PSAW3C-06F017.htm

Since I bought the thing it's always hot, sometimes it would be closed at random (what I know now because it was over heating) didn't think much of him, but then when some games would drop fps unplayable rates I look a little closer and ran a few tests of temperature and I've been extremely surprised/worried to what I saw. I also used a laptop cooler that has 2 fans on the subject, but which does practically nothing. I'll post photos of Speedfan so that you guys can see what I'm talking about

This first picture is about 2 minutes after that the laptop started well, it's a start-up costs and no program running (the laptop had been sitting off the coast during the night)

on this picture you can see that after 5 minutes with nothing else that speedfan run times have exceded 50 ° C

in the past only through normal conditions of use and the games, I saw temperatures between 90 c + and so I decided to perform a stress test and of course the time broke 90 c, I used the first 95 the stress tester. picture 1 is about 30 seconds in the test, photo 2 is after 10 minutes and photo 3 is a chart showing the increase in temperature and fluctuations over time

This has been a problem since I bought this thing about 6 months ago, I have since updated the bios and all drivers for current versions and nothing did, im starting to wish I never bought this because these temperatures cannot be set, the processor will underclock itself .9ghz I saw it several times and most of the games became unplayable even with the smaller settings.

If you think you have a solution please help im all ears, I don't even really this notebook, I saw the temp over 100 ° c before and I can not take any where without the cooler, might as well be a desktop computer, I wish I could get a refund even

As I see see you as a serious matter, so in my opinion, you should contact Toshiba service provider at the nearest Canada and ask for help.

It's OK to discuss this topic on the forum but you can read here are opinions or advice how to change some of the parameters of power. I doubt that this will help you contact Toshiba and ask what you can do about it.

  • New Satellite C660 - rattles and has bad sectors?

Hi, I just bought a C660, but I am a little concerned about a number of things.

First of all, whenever I type there is a rattling noise coming from inside of the laptop - which doesn't seem fair, but I thought I would check if everyone has that?

Second, the hard drive reports more than 2,700 bad sectors in SmartData is. For a drive up, this seems very poor! I have one who fell or something?

Thanks in advance for your comments!

    Mark

My only advance for you is to contact the nearest service Toshiba and ask for help. You have the new model laptop, and it should work perfectly.
Make a call, explain the situation and ask for help. Warranty will cover all costs.
