  The technicians don't need serial numbers to find the right and compatible part.
  You said your laptop Satellite L40-139.
  Generally, it should be enough to get the right part

  As far as I know as the Satellite L40-139 belongs to the PSL40E series.
  Then all Satellite L40 PSL40E must use the same cable.

  I guess you need the touchpad button and cable H000006020
  I found one on ebay.

  However, I think that the Toshiba ASP in your country should be able to provide a straight part just have the model L40-139 PSL40E number

  As far as I know that you have a card mother of Toshiba and the PSL4CE Satellite L40 notebook series - 17R was equipped with a Mobile Intel GL960 Express Chipset (Graphics Controller)

  There are no drivers of toshiba for the moment, but you can try to use the generic drivers from the manufacturers of the equipment

But I read it is better for the battery is discharged to 40-50% and then removed... and if you do not use the battery for the longer period, leave is too loaded in 40-50%... There is another opinion - leaving the battery fully charged, but in the two most important is - battery must not be discharged to leave...

  ad.3 vent - use compressed air
  ad.4 temp is ok.

  I had the same problem on my L40 - 13G. Before installing drivers, you must download and install patch KB888111 and KB835221 for Windows XP. And try to install the XP of satellite L30 drivers (if you have modem with toshiba chipset) or L100 (if you have chipset connexant).
